Well, as predicted, the screeching on the Left has been turned up to 11. A clear victory for Democrats and progressive policies has been turned by sectors of the Left, yet again, into a Satan sandwich.
It was predictable. President Obama and the Democrats achieved something unimaginable a year ago: a deficit deal in which the ratio of revenue to spending cuts was 41:1. Let that sink in. For every $1 cut in spending, $41 was raised in revenue.
Furthermore, none of the cuts were from the safety net. Grandmothers won’t have to eat cat food, and inner city children can still see doctors via Medicaid. The triggered cuts, the ones that were supposed to combine with the expiration of tax relief to create the fiscal tsunami, have been delayed for two months; just in time for the debt ceiling rise.
This screeching on the Left is not helpful, insofar as it gives the lazy stenographers of the mainstream media license to opine that Obama is “losing his base”.
Of course, DailyKos, Firedoglake, and the assorted gallery of the left media world were never Obama’s base. One doesn’t support a candidate and then turn on him the minute he doesn’t follow your preferred agenda or strategy and call oneself a “strong supporter”. There was a little bit of hubris in the Left media; it thought that with Obama in the White House, he would turn to them for counsel, as they felt they had the pulse of the electorate.
However, most Americans aren’t of the Left.
What those of the center-left to the center see is that Obama is “standing up to his base”. He’s doing no such thing, of course; it’s those very people of a centrist bent who elected Obama both times; they’re his true base.
Meanwhile, what the middle of the country sees is a Republican Party unable to stand up to what is truly its base. John Boehner finally had to throw his hands up in despair and allow a free vote on the fiscal cliff deal, with his hide saved by Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and a disciplined Democratic Party.
Of course, the Left’s disillusion goes back to the epic “cave” of the 2011 debt ceiling fight. It had its antecedents in the lack of a “public option” during the health care debate—a debate during which a great swathe of left bloggers did nothing but snipe from the sidelines. The debt ceiling fight was the final “betrayal”.

The deal took the debt limit off the table for the 2012 election. Obama knew he had a winning hand for the election, and that he would still be around for the fight once the “fiscal cliff” was within sight. He also knew that the special commission entrusted to find savings and revenue would come to nothing, as the parties were so far apart in a basic vision for the country. Thus the triggers would have to be dealt with, and that’s where he had his leverage. The Teabaggers might yearn for the austerity current in Europe, but those who fund the GOP don’t. Wall Street and corporate America know what many of the GOP’s base don’t: the US federal government is one of the country’s main economic engines. Government contracts either keep many companies afloat, or add to the bottom line of others. Take away that spending, and a recession looms.

I think we’ve broke it down before – the Emo-Progressive/Purity Left and the Professional Left hate Obama with the power of a thousand suns, but for very different reasons. Remember, the Purity Left are the dope fiends, and the Professional Left are the dealers. Obama is the narc Its a game of Pimps and Hoes:
The Purity Left is all about that, purity. Its a zero sum game for these guys in politics – either Obama follows their demands to the letter or he’s an complete failure and a sellout. Your OWS homies aren’t going to be satisfied until all bank CEO’s are dragged through the streets and Angela Davis is becomes the next Secretary of Housing They also live in, and are addicted to a failure-prone fantasy world like the Tea Party. For the purity left, to paraphrase Dr. Michael Eric Dyson – the only way they’ll be satisfied would for “Friedrich Engels to be Treasury Secretary and Karl Marx for Secretary of Labor”. They can’t review their own failures and missteps. Purity Left can’t recognize the limits of their ideals. They’ll back a clown car of people not qualified to run a hot dog stand, let alone Congress or Senate because ‘they stand on principle’. They can’t look at 40+ years of failure (even in places friendly to them, like college towns and parts of NYC & LA) and think ‘Hmmm…have we’ve been doing something wrong?’
Obama, basically says “Look guys, you’ve been doing it wrong for 40 years. Republicans have pretty much have been kicking us in the balls since the 70’s. Isn’t it time to try something different?” But like old Black church ladies who can’t understand how anyone could wear jeans to Sunday service – they gasp that someone is propose doing something effective instead something idealistic. They want their candy but Obama tells them to ‘eat their peas’.
The Professional Left, OTOH, are mostly in it for the money. If the Purity Left and Emo-Progressives are strung out political junkies addicted to Mau-Mau Faux Left Bullshit, the Professional Left are pushers selling that uncut China White. Whether they’re professional artists like Tom Morello and Michael Moore, intellectuals like Noam Chomsky and Cornell West, columnists like Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibi, comedians like John Stewart and Bill Maher or talking heads like Ed Shultz and Cenk Uygur, the Professional Left is to prime the pump and create an enemy for their readers to boil over about, so they can keep subscribing Rolling Stones, clicking the ads on Salon.com, donating to Pacifica Radio, getting the autographed copy of your latest polemic tome on your book tour, buying tickets to the latest overpriced concert tour or in the case of Current TV, subscribing the “Everything but the Porn” cable plan. Hell, ginning up outrage and charging prime dollar for ‘fighting against it’ is what Credo Mobile does.
This isn’t to same that these people don’t have core beliefs – I think most of these guys believe in what they say. But they don’t make their money off their beliefs. Arriana Huffngton is the reigning queen of the Professional Left and she’s by all evidence, still the same elitist right wing witch she was in the 90’s. These folks make their paper terrifying gullible lefties while confusing and often angering moderates and pragmatists like us. These guy hate Obama for a very simple reason – his incremental progressive gains chip away at their Utopian narrative, costing them dollars. Look, if you make your money running your mouth about liberal things the last thing you want to see is another guy to come across the way actually doing liberal things.
Think about it. If I’m Cornell West or Michael Moore, no one is going to give a tinker’s damn what I think about Single Payer once Obama-Care gets up and running by 2014-2016, which kind of eats into my asking price when talk to by publisher or the university about my salary. If you make your money of Anti-war songs, well, uh, kind of hard to protest war when our second longest running war is over and everyone pretty much agrees that the longest running war will be over before next year’s mid-terms. If you’re Ralph Nader complaining about Obama not locking up bankers – kind of hard to book that next speaking tour in Boston when Massachusetts just elected Elizabeth Warren & Obama created the Consumer Protection Bureau.
Basically, you don’t have to always agree with Obama on everything, I certainly don’t. But, you can’t pretend that he’s some sort of enemy of American Democracy without showing how little you understand about American Democracy. And if your business model is that ‘government is the enemy’ government doing this right undermines your sales pitch. Again, like the Tea Party Super PACS and Fox News, the professional Left profit off of government discord. In a strange way, Tavis Smiley & Amy Goodman are just as much paid agitators as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly, they just make a lot less money and on occasion touch on things we care about.
So, if you can’t find something real to complain about, you blow up crap that that is kind insignificant (investigations into Occupy Wall Street are not COINTELPRO people, get over yourselves) or just make up stuff as you go along (Obama is personally spying on you and ‘Fast and Furious’ isn’t a real scandal). Or, sticking with our drug dealing analogy – when you cocaine supply runs low, you cut the product and start selling free base and crack.
Again, lets keep it straight – the Purity Left hate Obama because he’s a grown up, the Professional Left hates Obama because he eats into their profits. The Right just keeps asking ‘What dat Nigger doing on a horse?’ **

MSNBC and their pundits are unhinged. In fact the entire left media is having conniptions right now. From what I saw on Twitter, MSNBC Hardball is going as far as to say that George Bush won the Fiscal Cliff Deal – that’s how MAD they are that PBO managed to get 90% of what he wanted leaving the rest of the GOP to pick up the 10% crumbs mixed with dust and roach eggs.
I think some people are raving mad that their great Bush tax cuts are going up. The left media will never admit it, but they LOVED when George Bush was president. They BENEFITED from his otherwise disastrous policies while making money by pretending to criticize him from the left. Now there is an adult in charge and they are frenzied…frightened…struggling to remain relevant.

John Boehner Yelled At Frank LoBiondo Over Sandy Aid

WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) yelled at a member of his own caucus on Tuesday night, after lawmakers from New Jersey and New York repeatedly pressed him to bring the Superstorm Sandy relief bill to the floor for a vote.
Boehner had a heated exchange with Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.), one of the members urging the House Republican leadership to bring up the Sandy legislation, according to fellow Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.). The House adjourned on Tuesday night without passing the $60.4 billion Sandy relief package that the Senate approved last week.
“I was chasing the Speaker all over the House floor last night, trying to talk to him and his staff,” King said on CNN on Wednesday morning. “He kept telling me, wait until the vote is over, wait until the fiscal cliff vote is over, everything will be taken care of. And then he was gone. He refused to meet with us. He actually yelled at Congressman LoBiondo, saying, ‘I’m not meeting with you people.'”

Sen. Kirk says stroke changed perspective on Medicaid

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) said his debilitating stroke has sparked a new interest in the experience of people on Medicaid.
In an interview published Wednesday, Kirk said that most Illinois residents insured through the low-income health program would be eligible for just 11 rehabilitation sessions following a stroke.
“Had I been limited to that I would have had no chance to recover like I did. So unlike before suffering the stroke, I’m much more focused on Medicaid and what my fellow citizens face,” Kirk told the Chicago Sun Times.
“I will look much more carefully at the Illinois Medicaid program to see how my fellow citizens are being cared for who have no income and if they suffer from a stroke,” Kirk said.
Kirk, 53, will return to the Capitol Thursday for the first time since a stroke left him almost unable to move the left side of his body in January 2012.
Doctors say a blocked artery caused the ischemic stroke. Kirk has spent most of the last year in rehabilitation, on a treadmill.

Boehner tells GOP he’s through with one-on-one Obama talks

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is signaling that at least one thing will change about his leadership during the 113th Congress: he’s telling Republicans he is done with private, one-on-one negotiations with President Obama.
During both 2011 and 2012, the Speaker spent weeks shuttling between the Capitol and the White House for meetings with the president in the hopes of striking a grand bargain on the deficit.
Those efforts ended in failure, leaving Boehner feeling burned by Obama and, at times, isolated within his conference.
In closed-door meetings since leaving the “fiscal cliff” talks two weeks ago, lawmakers and aides say the Speaker has indicated he is abandoning that approach for good and will return fully to the normal legislative process in 2013 — seeking to pass bills through the House that can then be adopted, amended or reconciled by the Senate.
“He is recommitting himself and the House to what we’ve done, which is working through regular order and letting the House work its will,” an aide to the Speaker told The Hill.

I went to see Les Miserables.
I preface this by saying that I am on my third CD of Les Miserables. I worn out the other two. Les Miz and Phantom are my two favorite musicals. I have seen it about a dozen times on stage. I belong to the Les Miz cult.
Now that we have that out of the way…
I LOVED IT!!!

The casting was PERFECT.
Though Hugh Jackman is a singer and a Broadway performer, and Russell Crowe is not… it doesn’t matter. Both men on the screen SCREAM their characters. They went into the souls of Jean ValJean and Javert and brought them on the screen.
There isn’t a spoken word in the entire movie – it’s all sung….and it was rocking.
The visuals of the movie are grand and sweeping.
The music, of course, was wonderful.
But, it was the casting of the rest of the movie that hit the spot. Anne Hathaway gave it her all for Fantine and made me tear up.
Remembering the video that I posted for you with the elderly couple that had cried afterwards – I went with plenty of tissues, and I needed them.
My tears really started coming when Eponine died…I can’t say enough about the young people that they cast – they were living their characters. By the end of the movie, I was blubbering. Crowe was marvelous, and by Javert’s end, he had me sympathetic towards him.
Jackman as Prisoner 24601 – simply divine.
Divine.
To the Les Miz cultists like myself, they threw us a bone by having the priest that saved Val Jean portrayed by the man most consider to be the best Jean Val Jean ever on stage.
There literally is nothing that I would change about the movie.
Even if you’ve never heard Les Miz before, I can’t see how you’d be disappointed in the movie. It is a beautiful, stand alone movie.
Ooooh! Woman; I’m rubbing my hands with excitement! Damn; and I thought I was a Les Miz, Phantom, hell a musicl junkie. I even named my gray tabby cat “Phantom Thanks for the preview. Going to see it Saturday.
Hubby and I saw The Hobbit yesterday. If you loved The Lord of The Rings trilogy, you’ll eat up The Hobbit!

In an interview, the singer-songwriter who is now 68 shared, ”The doctor said, ‘You have signs of Alzheimer’s.’ He said it’s not bad yet, but it’s going to get worse.”

Speaking after winning a “fiscal cliff” victory, President Barack Obama vowed on Tuesday to avoid a repeat of last year’s divisive fight with Congress over an extension of the nation’s borrowing authority.
“While I will negotiate over many things, I will not have another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they have already racked up,” Obama said in remarks in the White House.
Eighty-five Republicans joined with the Democrats to pass the deal last night, and that was 29 more than were needed. It wasn’t even close. When you consider that 16 Democrats voted no (something none of them would do on the debt ceiling) we have about a 45 vote cushion against failing to pay our bills on time.
There will be a different hostage this time. The hostage will be the whole federal budget and the GOP’s refusal to fix it without significant and painful cuts to entitlements. This battle was never avoidable. The president has never denied this. Here’s what he said on New Year’s Eve:

The year 2012 saw blockbuster decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court. The court will be most remembered for largely upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (in National Federation of Independent Businesses v. Sebelius), and for striking down key provisions of Arizona’s restrictive immigration law, SB 1070 (in Arizona v. United States). In both, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. joined the more liberal justices over the strong dissents from the court’s most conservative members.
Few expect this voting pattern to continue in 2013, although it again will be a year of blockbuster rulings, maybe even more so than 2012. The three most important matters to be decided in the first half of the new year all involve important issues of equality. In this area, Chief Justice Roberts so far has been with the conservatives, such as in his 2007 opinion in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School Dist. No. 1, which proclaimed that the Constitution requires that the government be color-blind in its decisions.
One of the pending cases, Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, was argued in the court Oct. 10. The issue is whether colleges and universities may continue to use race as a factor in admissions decisions to benefit minorities and to enhance diversity.

The “fiscal cliff” deal is done, so President Obama is back on his Hawaii vacation.
Obama boarded Air Force One at about midnight Tuesday, some 30 minutes after White House remarks saluting the House vote to avert a series of tax hikes and budget cuts known as the fiscal cliff.
“Happy New Year everybody,”‘ Obama told reporters.
The president landed in Honolulu shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. ET.

American Taxpayer Relief Act Reduces Deficits by $737 Billion

Earlier today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its score of H.R. 8, the “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.” By convention, the score measured the effects of this legislation relative to “current law,” which assumes the expiration of all of the 2001/2003 tax cuts, cuts to Medicare physicians of almost 27 percent, and allowing the across the board cuts from sequestration to take effect. But that does not provide a realistic perspective on the impact of H.R. 8. The relevant point of comparison isn’t current law, it is “current policy” – those policies that were in place on December 31st, the day before all of these changes were scheduled to take effect. Different organizations, ranging from the Bowles-Simpson Fiscal Commission to the House Budget Committee, have considered this current policy baseline to be the appropriate reference point, since it measures changes relative to the status quo, rather than the mix of expiring provisions and policy changes that would likely never be implemented.

The new year began not with a cannonball off the “fiscal cliff” but with an outbreak of conspiratorial cynicism.
This time it’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose fall and concussion, followed by a blood clot between her brain and skull, has prompted an embarrassment of theories. The gist: That woman will do anything to avoid testifying about Benghazi.

House Speaker John Boehner couldn’t hold back when he spotted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the White House lobby last Friday.
It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a “dictatorship” in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.
“Go f— yourself,” Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.
Reid, a bit startled, replied: “What are you talking about?”
Boehner repeated: “Go f— yourself.”
The harsh exchange just a few steps from the Oval Office — which Boehner later bragged about to fellow Republicans — was only one episode in nearly two months of high-stakes negotiations laced with distrust, miscommunication, false starts and yelling matches as Washington struggled to ward off $500 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts.

IMO, here’s how the Debt Ceiling is gonna go.
President : I want a clean debt ceiling bill.
The GOP:NO, we want cuts to entitlements.
President : I want a clean debt ceiling bill.
Other Democrats: Please put forth a detailed list of said entitlement cuts.
The GOP: No, we want the cuts, and you to put them forward.
President: Here’s the deal. You want entitlement cuts? RUN ON THEM IN 2014. IF you win on a platform of entitlement cuts, then we’ll talk in 2014. but, for now, give me my clean debt ceilling bill.
LOL There you go! PBO: “What part of clean bill don’t you guys and gals understand, Hmm?”
