The president gave his I’m-Off-To-Hawaii-Suckers press conference this afternoon, and there were the ritual Mele Kelikemakas all around. He once again apologized for “screwing up” the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, and he talked tough about the upcoming brawl over the debt ceiling. (Has Paul Ryan asked for a pony yet?). But I was struck mainly by this one passage in which he was talking about how his legislative agenda had been stalled by the campaign of massive resistance engaged in by the insane one of our two American political parties.

President Barack Obama said more than 500,000 Americans enrolled in Obamacare during the first three weeks of December. “So all told, millions of Americans, despite problems with the website, are now poised to be covered by quality, affordable health care,” he said at a news conference today.
When asked if 2013 was his worst year in office, Obama said “that’s not how I think about it,” though he acknowledged “ups” and “downs,” especially with Congress. “As I look at this past year, there’s obviously areas of frustration,” he said.
The president also said that in the new year, he will work on creating more jobs and building skills and education for workers so that middle-class families can have better opportunities. “I think 2014 needs to be a year of action. We’ve got more work to do on jobs,” he said.
