Jurors deliberated for about three hours Wednesday but went home for the night without reaching a verdict in the murder trial of a Florida man who killed a 17-year-old after an argument over loud music. Michael Dunn, 47, says he shot Jordan Davis in self-defense, but in closing arguments, prosecutor Erin Wolfson said, “The threat was only in his imagination.” Dunn is charged with first-degree murder in Davis’ death, although the jury could also consider the lesser charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. Dunn also faces three counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting into a car carrying teenagers at the Gate gas station and convenience store in Jacksonville on Nov. 23, 2012. Before the jury recessed for the night, they asked to see a convenience store security video that captured the sound of the gunshots when they resume deliberations Thursday.

It’s 5:20 PM in Florida so I’m going to guess that even if the jury reaches a verdict or comes to agreement tonight they will sleep on it. Who knows?

I hope that’s not the case. There are a lot of charges to consider with lesser charges included. Someone on the jury clearly does not want to convict as charged, but I would be more than happy with a lesser charge as long as it puts Dunn away for the rest of his life. He could easily end up with a very long sentence given how Florida has structured their mandatory minimums and additional time for use of a firearm and killing a child.
Dunn is 47, just about any sentence he could get would lock him up for a very long time with the likelihood he would die in prison (and that assumes he dies of natural causes.)

Any mother knows that all teens love loud music. They like to feel the beat in the music. I don’t know any mother in America that hasn’t at one time or another had to tell their children to turn it down in the house, but we didn’t shoot our kids, nor did our neighbors. My oldest granddaughter lives with me and has a stereo system in her room. Her and friends listen to music and turn it up loud, so do the other kids on this block. That’s normal teenage behavior.
Yesterday, there was a non-black teenager behind me in a car who had his music up loud. I hear loud music playing all the time whenever I am in public places. No big deal!

Ain’t that bout a biscuit! Those folks know that man is guilty as guilty can be. Anyone with a ounce of brain can figure that one out. People don’t just kill kids and go order pizza, buy wine, and leave out the state, without calling the police, unless they were trying to get away and thought they would get away with it.
That Leblanc sister and brother testified that they did not see them throw away any gun. There was no gun. Anyone with common sense knows that if someone had a gun, they would shoot back not try to get away. Dunn has changed his story more than I can count.
Those folks on HLN are making my blood boil, but in a way it’s a good thing because they’re showing you who they really are and how they really feel about black people. They’re trying to put doubt in the mind of their viewers. Some of those HLN folks giving me the impression that they are cheerleaders for murderers for black boys and being subtle with it. Out on the West Coast racism is subtle, so you learn to pick up on it when it is subtle.
This demonization of our black boys is got to stop.
My beleif is those white men on the jury know that if they’re part of coming back with a guilty verdict for Dunn, they will set a PRECEDENT. I predict a verdict by Friday, 2-14. That jury does not want to be sequestered over the weekend.
Agreed. They’ll have it before the weekend, that would give them two days. I hope it’s today but it’s hard to say. They want to look at a lot of stuff apparently, videos and photos.
There are both murder one and attempted murder one, and they can consider lesser charges. Many possibilities in that. I would already have convicted him as charged based on the evidence put forth at trial. The physical evidence tells the story, just like JG said, and it is corroborated with eyewitness testimony. Dunn is the only one with a different story and it is corroborated with nothing.

SG2, the best thing to do is scan if you think you have a virus. I like Spybot, it has helped me in the past. It has a free version which is the one I use. I don’t know what anti-virus program you are running, but you can probably scan with that too. But it failed to detect the virus, if any, so I would start with Spybot.
