Old White Male Racist Tells Black Woman To Move To The Back Of A Bus In New York (VIDEO)
MAY 7, 2014 5:52 PM
Nearly 60 years have passed since civil rights icon Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man after being ordered to move to the back of the bus. In 2014, despite declarations by Republicans and conservative Supreme Court Justices that racism is over in America, it seems old white racists want to revive Jim Crow. And that apparently includes buses.
In the wake of overt racism by the likes of people such as LA Clipper’s owner Donald Sterling and conservative hero Cliven Bundy, yet another act of racism has emerged. This time, it’s an old white man in New York on a city bus.
Caught on audio and video, an old white man demanded an African-American woman to surrender her seat and move to the back of the bus. She asks him why and then it gets uglier from there as he targets her hairstyle and invokes Donald Sterling

Ex-NSA Chief: Russia Controls Snowden
In perhaps the strongest charge against Edward Snowden yet, the former head of the National Security Agency says his ex-employee is “now being manipulated by Russian intelligence.” General Keith Alexander, who retired in March, told the Australian Financial Review that he doesn’t know “when that exactly started or how deep it runs.” Snowden, of course, has been living in Moscow since last year. “Understand as well that they’re only going to let him do those things that benefit Russia, or stand to help improve Snowden’s credibility,” Alexander said. “They’re not going to do things that would hurt themselves. And they’re not going to allow him to do it.”

Tillis eyes ‘divide and conquer’ agenda
05/07/14 10:14 AM—Updated 05/07/14 12:09 PM
By Steve Benen
The fact that the Republican Party establishment rallied behind Thom Tillis in North Carolina’s U.S. Senate primary might give voters the impression that he’s a mainstream, center-right candidate. He’s not.
Tillis has helped cut off access to medical care for struggling families; he opposes gay rights; he’s helped impose ridiculous new voting restrictions; and he’s curtailed reproductive rights while expanding opportunities to carry loaded guns in bars. Tillis also happens to be a climate denier who cheered the government shutdown and suggested lowering the federal minimum wage to zero.
This is the guy the GOP backed because his primary rivals were seen as too extreme. But to fully appreciate what Tillis brings to the table, consider this striking clip from Monday’s edition of “Hardball with Chris Matthews.”

Caught some of this nonsense last night. Alice Stewart sat in that chair and tried to tell Chris M & Co. that Tillis is saying people to take advantage of the system, when Tillis told the ignorant folks that the disabled should go after poor folks who receive government assistant.
These folks are SOCIOPATHS.
Clay Aiken has slim edge in North Carolina primary

(CNN) – Clay Aiken, the American-Idol star-turned congressional hopeful, holds a razor-thin margin over opponent Keith Crisco in North Carolina’s Democratic primary for a U.S. House seat, but CNN and other news organizations have not yet projected a winner.
With all precincts reporting, Aiken has 40.83% of the vote, with Crisco following slightly behind at 39.4%. If the margin holds up, Aiken would exceed the 40% threshold needed to avoid a runoff.

Brownback facing fire on two fronts
05/07/14 10:49 AM—Updated 05/07/14 11:29 AM
By Steve Benen
A few years ago, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) and his state’s Republican-led legislature pushed through a massive tax cut, which the state clearly couldn’t afford. The results aren’t pretty: Kansas’ bond rating was downgraded yesterday as a result of “a sluggish recovery from the recession, risk inherent in the governor’s tax plan and uncertainty over the Legislature’s ability to keep cutting spending.”
Oliver Willis noted a Businesweek report that explained, “[T]he immediate effect has been to blow a hole in the state’s finances without noticeable economic growth.”
And as it turns out, that may not be the most serious problem Kansas’ far-right governor is dealing with right now.

Sykes alleges racial profiling by police
Councilman was stopped and not charged; mayor orders inquiry
BY IGNAZIO MESSINA
BLADE STAFF WRITER
A police traffic stop of Toledo Councilman Larry Sykes without any apparent probable cause has sparked an internal investigation, The Blade has learned.
Mr. Sykes, a former Toledo Board of Education member who was elected in November to city council, was pulled over at 9:25 p.m. April 24 after leaving the studios of WGTE-TV for a program on senior citizens and hunger.
Mr. Sykes, who is African-American, said the officer, who was white, likely racially profiled him. Mr. Sykes said he has been racially profiled many times in the past by law enforcement officers, and that the license plate of the sport utility vehicle he was driving that night reads “4DRWBLK,” which stands for “4 driving while black.”
Mayor D. Michael Collins ordered an investigation after he learned of Mr. Sykes’ allegation in an April 30 letter to Police Chief Bill Moton.

Is This the End of the GOP Civil War?
Establishment favorite Thom Tillis easily defeated the Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee factions of the Republican Party in North Carolina, showing how Tea Party fortunes have changed.
Molly Ball
May 6 2014, 11:21 PM ET
You can rest assured that the Tea Partiers have not appreciably changed. I struck up a conversation with a woman with spangly gold fingernails named Sharon Doyle, who spends her free time holding “Impeach Obama” and “Remember Benghazi” signs on highway overpasses a couple of times a month. A caregiver for the elderly who’s had cancer and back surgery, she can’t afford health insurance through her employer, but she refuses to visit the federal health-insurance website for ideological reasons. Of the Republican frontrunner, state House Speaker Thom Tillis, she had only disdain—”He’s a RINO. I don’t trust him”—and said she wouldn’t vote in November if he became the nominee.
This has become a familiar scene in American politics: the fractured GOP wracked by the demands of a cranky right-wing base. But Tuesday might be remembered as the night it changed. To a degree not seen before since the advent of the Tea Party five years ago, the Republican establishment took on the warring factions that have given the GOP so many ulcers in recent years—and won. With 94 percent of the vote counted Tuesday night, Tillis had cleared the 40-percent runoff threshold, taking 45 percent of the vote to his nearest competitor’s 27 percent.

GOP struggles to land punches at ObamaCare insurance hearing
By Elise Viebeck – 05/07/14 01:09 PM EDT
Republicans struggled to land punches against ObamaCare in a hearing Wednesday as responses from insurance companies deflated several lines of questioning.
Democratic lawmakers were emboldened to defend the Affordable Care Act with renewed vigor and levity, creating a dynamic rarely seen in the debate over ObamaCare.
Adding to the irregularity, exits on the Republican side at a subcommittee hearing led by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) allowed multiple Democrats to speak in a row and let heavy Democratic criticisms of Republicans go unanswered, a contrast with the heated exchanges of last fall.
The discussion was not always favorable to the healthcare law, as it touched on health plan cancellations, the potential for premium increases in 2015 and problems that still plague the back end of HealthCare.gov.
Witnesses from the insurance industry were also careful in their comments, and promised to submit several answers to the committee at a later date.
But Republicans were visibly exasperated as insurers failed to confirm certain assumptions about ObamaCare, such as the committee’s allegation that one-third of federal exchange enrollees have not paid their first premium.

HEADS UP: First Lady Michelle Obama will be on ABC’s Nashville tonight at 10PM EDT / 9PM CDT.
How did the First Lady get involved with the show?
That was thrilling to get to do. We reached out to them. And they’re so committed to the cause of taking care of veterans and their families that they really jumped at this chance to send a message on primetime television. They are so utterly invested and sincere in this issue that it was kind of a no-brainer that they would be a really good fit. So we went to the White House and Michelle Obama made her address. She’s an absolutely lovely and incredible woman and the whole experience was so wonderful. It’s such an amazing moment, being able to bring this issue to the forefront of our show since country music has always had a very close connection with the military.

Fox Orders Lee Daniels’ Hip-Hop Drama, Octavia Spencer’s ‘Red Band Society’ to Series
3:28 PM PDT 5/6/2014 by Lesley Goldberg
Fox is adding to its drama slate for the 2014-15 season. The network has picked up hip-hop drama Empire and its remake of Spanish drama Red Band Society starring Octavia Spencer.
Written and exec produced by The Butler’s Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, Empire is a family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire. Taraji P. Henson stars as Cookie Lyon, the ex-wife of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), the head of a record label at the center of the drama.
Strong and Daniels penned the script for Empire, while Daniels will make his TV directing debut with the project. From 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine, Brian Grazer will executive produce alongside Daniels, Strong and Francie Calfo.
Gabby Sidibe co-stars alongside regulars Jussie Smollett, Malik Yoba, Kaitlin Doubleday, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey and Tasha Smith. The drama will feature original and current music, with Timbaland on board as a songwriter/music producer.
The drama had been generating solid buzz throughout pilot season, with the additional revenue streams to come from the original music sales, likely also contributing to the network’s decision to pick up the drama. Fox picked up the drama after a multiple-network bidding war, ordering Empire to pilot with an eye toward series pickup under its new development model.
The series will become the third scripted musical show on broadcast TV, joining Fox’s Glee — which also hails from producers 20th Century Fox Television — and ABC’s country music drama Nashville, from producers Lionsgate TV.
Red Band Society, meanwhile, is described as a dark dramedy that focuses on the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. The depth of the unexpected friendships allows them to survive the challenges of growing up under such intense circumstances. Spencer stars alongside Dave Annable in the drama from ABC Studios, DreamWorks and Amblin Television. Spencer will make her series TV debut in the drama, which hails from Boardwalk Empire’s Margaret Nagle and exec producers Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Sergio Aguero. The series marks a rare off-network sale for ABC Studios.
Empire and Red Band Society mark the fourth and fifth new drama pickups at Fox for the 2014-15 television season. It joins Batman prequel Gotham and Hart Hanson’s Backstrom, as well as Egyptian drama Hieroglyph, the latter two of which were picked up straight to series.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/the-magical-cost-tax-cuts
House Republicans are poised to vote, perhaps as early as today, on making a series of temporary tax breaks permanent, at a cost of between $156 billion and $310 billion over 10 years, depending on how the package is structured. How in the world does the GOP intend to pay for this? As it turns out, Republicans don’t even intend to try to pay for the tax breaks.
As Danny Vinik noted, the GOP’s justification for this is absurd.
“We have essentially been allowing an R&D tax credit since 1981 in this country,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said on Monday about one of the six tax extenders. “So let’s just call it what it is and make it permanent so that we can get back on the path to growth. Addressing growth, addressing our unfunded liabilities connected with entitlement programs – that is the sure way to reduce deficits and reduce the debt burden.”
Read that last sentence again, except imagine Cantor used it in support of extending unemployment insurance instead of a deficit-increasing tax cut. It works perfectly. In fact, because the UI extension is temporary and the Republican tax cut is permanent, it makes even more sense. But that’s not how Cantor sees it.
The Majority Leader is playing a foolish game, and if his comments on the House floor this week are any indication, he’s not playing it well.
Republicans want to make permanent hundreds of billions of dollars in business tax breaks, but they don’t want to find offsets to pay for any of the tax cuts. Why not? Because the temporary tax breaks have been in place for quite a while.

Willow Smith In Bed With 20 Year Old Actor
May 6, 2014
By Tropikana
Will Smith‘s 13-year-old daughter took a pic in bed that’s raising a lot of eyebrows … because she’s laying next to a topless 20-year-old man.
In the photo … Willow Smith is in bed — fully clothed and on top of the covers — and an actor named Moises Arias is sitting next to her sans shirt.
Moises — best known for his role as Rico on “Hannah Montana” – and Willow don’t appear to be touching each other in the black and white shot he posted on Instagram … still it’s a strange scene.
Moises eventually deleted his IG post — but other people have reposted it and called the image perverted.
It appears the pic was taken by Moises and Willow’s friend … who posted the bed photo and several others of Willow, Jaden Smith and the Jenner girls.
We’ve reached out to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s reps to find out what’s going on — but haven’t heard anything back yet.

RHOA Bombshell: Apollo Nida Pleads Guilty To Fraud Charges
May 6, 2014
By SkyyHook, Contributing Editor
Well, we’ve been reporting for a minute that we thought this might go down and ish just got real in the Phaedra Parks household tonight as her husband Apollo Nida just plead guilty to bank, mail and wire fraud!
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Nida accepted charges that could land him in prison for up to 30 years and a fine of up to $1 million on top of restitution for an estimated $2.3 million he allegedly defrauded various individuals, financial institutions and government agencies.
Judge Charles Pannell has set the sentencing hearing for July 8 at 2 p.m.
Alana Black, the Assistant U.S. Attorney, replayed for Judge Pannell Nida’s scheme in detail. And according to Black, Nida;
opened a fake debt collection agency to gain access to databases full of individual’s personal information. He would then steal people’s ID and find unclaimed funds, refunds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, stolen U.S. treasury checks and refunds from fraudulent U.S. income tax returns.
As we previously reported, Nida was working in concert with a co-conspirator by the name of Gayla St. Julien. St Julien just plead guilty and received 5 years in prison for her part of the schemes.
Nida had St. Julien open UPS mailboxes and bank checking accounts using those fake identities, deposit those checks, then pocket the money.
Then Nida created a fake auto dealerships and got auto loans for phantom cars.
The U.S. Secret Service, working with the State Consumer Protection Agency, caught St. Julien first, then was able to procure Nida’s laptop with all of the evidence so there was no way for him to refute charges against him.
Said Nida in court,
“I take full responsibility for my actions. It was a dumb situation I put myself in.

Louisiana Senate contest embodies Democrats’ task: win black voters
Mary L. Landrieu is one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the U.S. Senate, and her chances of reelection this fall could come down to her ability to turn out African American voters like Barbara Brown..
Standing outside Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in the crisp white suit that marks her as an usher, Brown pursed her lips at the mention of months of television ads that have already aired attacking Landrieu and her vote for the national healthcare law, which Brown sees as an unfair rebuke of President Obama.
“Just disgusting — enough to make you sick to your stomach,” Brown said. All that criticism of Landrieu for “standing on the president’s side,” Brown said, has made her even more committed to supporting the three-term senator this fall and encouraging others to do the same
I like what she said,” Brown added, using a Landrieu line that appeared in one of the ads critical of the senator’s position on the healthcare law: “She says, ‘If I had to do it again, I would do it again.'”
Few senators up for reelection this fall face a more complex balancing act than Landrieu, who hails from a state that Obama lost by 18 percentage points in 2012. She is aggressively pursuing independents and Republicans, who have been key to her past wins but are unhappy with Obama’s performance. But central to her chances is reversing the traditional midterm drop-off in voting by black Louisianians, who make up 31% of the electorate.
Landrieu’s task reflects a larger imperative for Democrats this year and in 2016: to guarantee a massive turnout by the party’s most loyal voters when the nation’s first African American president is no longer anchoring the ballot.
Landrieu will have powerful partners this fall. Strategists at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee are hiring field organizers for a $60-million effort in a dozen states to swell turnout among core Democratic groups such as African Americans and single women.

The Hedge-Funders Who Complain About Creeping Socialism Are Somehow Still Getting RicherYou can still make billions even if you can’t beat the S&P
BY ALEC MACGILLIS
Last year wasn’t exactly a banner year for hedge funds—on average, they returned 7.4 percent gains in 2013, far behind the S&P 500’s 30 percent gain for the year, and short of the 9.2 percent gains their clients expected for the year. Still, you’ll be reassured to know that the top hedge fund managers made out okay anyway: a new ranking of the top earners for 2013 shows that the top 25 managers took home a total of $21.15 billion, the highest combined total since 2010 and 50 percent more than in 2012. Not shabby for a down year.
What’s notable about the list of top performers, though, isn’t just the eye-popping sums. It’s that some of the names on the list are awfully familiar. Where have we seen these fellows before? Ah yes: warning of the country’s coming socialist penury under the leadership of Barack Obama.
Roll the tape, shall we?
Kenneth Griffin, March 2012: “At this moment in time, [capitalist] values are under attack. This belief that a larger government is what creates prosperity, that a larger government is what creates good (is wrong). We’ve seen that experiment. The Soviet Union collapsed. China has run away from its state-controlled system over the last 20 years and has pulled more people up from poverty by doing so than we’ve ever seen in the history of humanity. Why the U.S. is drifting toward a direction that has been the failed of experiment of the last century [sic], I don’t understand. I don’t understand.” 2013 haul: $950 million, 5th place.

Among the stances and accomplishments of which he’s most proud: Denying federally funded Medicaid to a half-million North Carolinians; helping pass a discriminatory constitutional amendment that was instantly on shaky legal ground; passing one of the most voter-unfriendly laws in the nation; and cutting taxes by more than $2 billion while giving teachers not a penny in raises. His House passed a bill to let people carry guns in bars and another that put tough restrictions on legal abortions. He said…climate change was not a fact, there should be no federal minimum wage and the Department of Education should be abolished.
As Steve Benen puts it, Tillis
would immediately become one of the Senate most right-wing members if elected, but in his primary, he was nevertheless perceived as the “mainstream” GOP candidate backed by the party establishment. What was once the fringe element of the party is now simply the party itself.
Now pass it on to all your voting friends.

Looking Down on the Poor With Thom Tillis
By Ed Kilgore
I have no idea if it will affect today’s balloting in NC, but it’s a fairly just byproduct of Republican Senate front-runner Thom Tillis’ efforts to depict himself as a fiery leader of a “conservative revolution” in his state that a video has emerged that makes Mitt Romney’s “47%” rap look downright benign:
Here’s Tillis is in 2011 discussing a “divide and conquer” strategy for dealing with people on public assistance:
This is indeed interesting. It’s become common for Republicans to encourage those who benefit from Social Security and Medicare to view people on Medicaid or food stamps (or even receiving Obamacare subsidies) as diverting resources away from their own virtuous selves. But what Tillis is talking about is pitting people with disabilities against those who can’t find work or sufficient wages to live on—getting the former, in fact, to look down on the latter. That’s a new one, to me at least.

yep, coax the ailing population to attack the poor. Ain’t that about a BITCH. The GOP honestly can continue sinking to the level of underground sewage, but they won’t gain the seat in the Oval Office, for some time to come
That was just foolishness’

By Steve Benen
House Republicans, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), thought they’d come up with a very clever idea last week. By deliberately manipulating data and ignoring facts they didn’t like, GOP lawmakers issued a “report” arguing that “only 67 percent” of consumers who enrolled in the Affordable Care Act’s exchanges paid their first month’s premiums.
Republicans, in this case, were lying. They knew there were publishing fraudulent claims, intended to deceive the public, and once caught, the officials made no real effort to deny what they’d done.
But if the GOP’s bogus number is wrong, what’s right? That picture is coming into sharper focus now.
Three large health insurers including WellPoint Inc. and Aetna Inc. say that a high percentage of their new Obamacare customers are paying their first premiums, undermining a Republican criticism of enrollment in the program.
As many as 90 percent of WellPoint customers have paid their first premium by its due date, according to testimony the company prepared for a congressional hearing tomorrow. For Aetna, the payment is in the “low to mid-80 percent range,” the company said in its own testimony. Health Care Service Corp., which operates Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in five states including Texas, said that number is at least 83 percent.
Dan Mendelson, president of Avalere Health, a Washington consulting firm, told Bloomberg News, “What you have here is very solid first year enrollment, no matter how you slice it. This thing is, at this point, well entrenched.”

Morning Plum: Facts can’t cure Obamacare Derangement Syndrome
By Greg Sargent
May 7 at 9:08 am
Today, officials from the major insurance companies are set to testify before House Republicans, and it looks as if they will make it clear that the latest GOP attack on Obamacare is a crock.
House Republicans, you will recall, recently released a report claiming only 67 percent of enrollees had paid their Obamacare premiums. This was widely hyped by the law’s opponents: All these claims that the law is on track just have to be cooked! But the insurers themselves are set to testify today that here in the real world, 80-90 percent of people have paid:

Last Call For The Left Sinking Another Obama Nominee
David Barron’s nomination for the First Circuit is about to get derailed by “I stand with Rand” Democrats, who as usual have no problem backing my quasi-racist troll of a Senator over their own party and president.
Barron would only need 51 votes, which means Republicans are completely powerless to stop him from being approved. Only Democrats can kill this nomination, and that’s exactly what these cowards are planning to do, because DROOOOOOOOOONES.
………………………..
So yes, pathetic cowards are running from Obama again, as if Republicans will magically go easier on them in November just because they say “Hey, I stood up to that one” and that Democratic voters will be more likely to vote for them after slagging the President.
Keep right on going, kids. We don’t forget

The undercover senator: Tim Scott goes anecdote shopping in South Carolina
excerpt:
As they talk, an older white woman wanders over and asks, “You here for court-ordered time?”
“Not this time,” the volunteer says. What he neglects to mention is that his name is Tim Scott, that he’s a United States senator — her senator — and that he’s up for reelection in the fall. For now, Scott’s main objective is just to get elected — likely without much help from the black vote. Instead, he’ll need to win over legions of white voters.
[…]
Just a few miles away from the Goodwill, there’s the Greenville Museum and Library of Confederate History, a place where the director, Mike Couch, will tell you that slavery was in fact not racist.
“It was a matter of economics, most likely,” Couch says. He walks over to a wall covered with pictures of black confederate soldiers. “We judge people by character, not skin color.”
Couch, who is white, is a fan of Scott’s.
“I’ll vote for him, sure,” he says. “He’s better than the other guy, Flimsy Lindsey Grahamnesty” — South Carolina’s other Republican senator, who is often accused by conservatives of being too moderate on such issues as immigration reform.
Scott’s election would make history, but not everyone thinks it would be a step forward.
“If you call progress electing a person with the pigmentation that he has, who votes against the interest and aspirations of 95 percent of the black people in South Carolina, then I guess that’s progress,” says Rep. Jim E. Clyburn, a black congressman who serves in the state’s Democratic leadership.
Scott got an F on the NAACP annual scorecard. He voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he voted to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt of Congress, opposed the Congressional Black Caucus’s budget proposal and voted to delay funding a settlement between the United States and black farmers who claimed the federal government refused them loans.

Oh yeah, Timmy’s definitely got to tap & jump for Massa, if he wants their vote!
The Other Side of Privilege at Princeton[OPINION]
A SENIOR AT THE IVY LEAGUE UNIVERSITY WEIGHS IN ON HER CLASSMATE’S NOW-FAMOUS ‘TAKEDOWN’ OF THE CONCEPT OF WHITE PRIVILEGE
By MORGAN JERKINS
When I read Tal Fortgang’s article in The Princeton Tory (a publication that is bankrolled by a wealthy non-profit dedicated to grooming young Conservative leaders), where he now famously stated that he has no need to apologize for having privilege as a White male, I wasn’t surprised. However, after seeing him on Fox and reading his article republished by Time, I, like the rest of the Black community at Princeton, started to grow more incensed. As a graduating senior who has been at this institution longer than he has, I’ve grown tired of being afraid as a Black woman to talk about privilege within this ivy-covered bubble and have decided to respond.
When talking about privilege, or lack thereof, one must persistently be aware that there is a huge difference between the individual and the collective. I learned this distinction the hard way. Two years ago, I was accepted as an opinion writer for The Daily Princetonian. At the time, I was the only Black woman on staff. In my first opinion article, I argued that Princeton University’s creative writing programs should change its selective, application-only admissions to a more inclusive open enrollment that welcomed all interested students. The first comment on my piece was submitted by an anonymous individual who said that I should’ve been rejected from Princeton because the university doesn’t need any more “whiny Black girls.” It took the moderator several hours to delete the comment even though my supporters bombarded him with emails about the vitriol. My picture was not next to my article, only my name. Not once did I mention race or gender in the article. Yet, for the offense of expressing my opinions on a subject, my racial and gender identity were ridiculed. It was then that I realized that while I may be an individual, I am a part of a larger social category—Black women. Because of this identity, some of my peers believe that I don’t belong and refuse to listen to my voice.

“When I was in third grade, I promised my mom I would get her a pink Cadillac Escalade,” Bridgewater said. “Pink is the color that represents breast cancer awareness, so I just want to get her that big pink Escalade truck and see that big smile on her face.”
Oh my…. so heartwarming, so beautiful!
NOTHING BUT DUST IN MY EYE.
YEAH, JUST DUST.
