Fla. Dad Finds Man Allegedly Sexually Assaulting His Son, Does This To Him

    Jul 18, 2014
    By NewsOne Staff

The picture you see above is the result of what happened after a Daytona Beach father allegedly walked in on a man sexually battering his 11-year-old son Friday.

“I just walked in on a grown man molesting …,” the upset father told a
dispatcher. “And I got him in a bloody puddle for you, officer.”

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said very simply, “Dad was
acting like a dad. I don’t see anything we should charge the dad
with…You have an 18-year-old who has clearly picked his target, groomed his target and had sex with the victim multiple times.” The Daytona Beach News-Journal has the full story:

Police responding to the Daytona Beach home at 1:07 a.m. Friday after the father called them found Raymond Frolander, 18, of Holly Hill lying motionless on the living room floor. Frolander had several knots on his face and was bleeding from the mouth, an arrest report states.

The 35-year-old unidentified father told police that he walked in on
Frolander and interrupted him as Frolander sexually battered the boy,
    the report states.

Asked by the dispatcher if any weapons were involved, the father said “my foot and my fist.”

“I didn’t proceed to ask him any questions sir,” the father said. “He
is nice and knocked out on the floor for you. I drug him out to the
    living room.”

The father was not charged in Frolander’s beating, police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said.

Wendy Williams Announces Executive-Producer Role on Aaliyah Biopic

The talk show host announced that she will be at the helm of Lifetime’s Aaliyah flick.

he Lifetime network hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to its recently announced Aaliyah biopic. When the network made the announcement about the film, Aaliyah’s family immediately threatened legal action. In an interview with TMZ, Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager, said the family had already hired a lawyer and would block any attempt by Lifetime to use any of Aaliyah’s music, as well as to release the film. Then, shortly after it was announced that the leading role in the biopic was going to Disney actress Zendaya Coleman, Coleman backed out because of scheduling conflicts, though most suggest it was because of the backlash the actress received from the public.

Some people think the movie has been doomed from the start, but can a popular daytime talk show host swoop in and save the day?

Wendy Williams announced Friday morning that she is taking on the role of executive producer of the movie, tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. It’s based on the best-seller Aaliyah: More Than a Woman by former Time magazine music editor Christopher Farley.

On top of announcing her role as the executive producer, Williams also divulged who would now play the lead role, since Coleman is no longer involved: Alexandra Shipp. She is most notable for her role as K.T. Rush on the show House of Anubis and has also appeared on Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Switched at Birth and Victorious.

Universal Studios Responds to Straight Outta Compton Casting

Universal Studios has issued a statement saying it did not approve of the casting. If the studio didn’t, you have to wonder, who did?

    By: Yesha Callahan
    Posted: July 18 2014 4:45 PM

Universal Pictures and the filmmakers behind the planned N.W.A biopic have released a statement in regards to the offensive and racist casting information that was released Thursday.

The company said in a statement late Thursday that “the filmmakers … did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice. We regret and sincerely apologize for being in any way associated with the offensive descriptions it contained.”

Sande Alessi Casting was responsible for Wednesday’s posting of the open call, which placed women in four categories according to their skin color and hair.

“A girls” were described as “the hottest of the hottest” and was open to any ethnicity. “B girls” were to be “light-skinned,” whereas “D girls” were “African American … Poor, not in good shape. Medium-to-dark skin tone.”

On Thursday, Gawker posted the casting call, which was eventually removed from the company’s Facebook page. In a statement to TMZ, Sande Alessi Casting said that the casting post was an “innocent mistake.”

There’s no word on whether or not Universal will continue to use Sande Alessi Casting, but after the controversy Thursday, you’d have to wonder if Sande Alessi received those exact requirements from the movie studio.

Florida Barbershop Promotes Literacy by Giving Books to Its Young Customers

A barbershop owner is using books to combat poor graduation rates and violence among young black men in his community.

    By: Taryn Finley
    Posted: July 17 2014 10:35 AM

Your local barbershop probably consists of televisions broadcasting ESPN, animated banter on almost any subject and music to match the vibe of the shop. The only literature you would expect to find is a magazine. A Palm Beach County, Fla., barbershop is altering this traditional view of barbershops by taking away the TVs and radios and adding a library of books.

Reggie Ross, the owner of Royal Touch Barbershop, is promoting literacy by asking his young customers to read one of the books he provides while they wait to get their hair cut. Ross extends the option for children to continue reading the book during their haircut. He even asks them to read aloud to him and sparks discussions with them about the book.

According to a South Florida Times reporter, Juan Diasgranados, Ross began this initiative to dispel the negative stereotype that black men don’t read. He began bringing books from his home into the shop and has expanded his shop’s library ever since.

Ariz. Mother Who Left Kids in Car During Job Interview Gets Court Deal

Shanesha Taylor, the mother of two who left her children in the car while interviewing for a job will have to complete parenting and substance-abuse classes, in addition to other prerequisites.

Remember Shanesha Taylor, the Arizona mother who was arrested and had her children taken away from her because she left them in the car earlier this year while she tried to interview for a job?

Well, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Taylor’s lawyers, saying that the two counts of child abuse will be dropped if Taylor meets certain terms and conditions, the Arizona Republic reports.

According to the news site, Taylor will have to “complete parenting and substance-abuse classes,” as well as begin separate “education and child-care trusts” for her three kids. The education trusts must hold no less than $10,000.

When asked if she accepted the terms, Taylor told Judge Joseph Welty, “Yes, your honor.”

“Based on all the facts and circumstances in this matter, we believe this agreement represents a just resolution that appropriately holds the defendant accountable for her actions while also recognizing the best interests of her family,” Montgomery said in a statement, according to the Republic. “The stipulations of this agreement also ensure that pledges of support from members of the public will have a meaningful and positive impact,” he added.

Morning Plum: How Republicans are trying to hamstring Obama on immigration

By Greg Sargent July 18 at 9:19 AM 

On the surface, the partisan skirmishing over minors crossing the border seems like pretty straightforward political maneuvering, with Republicans trying to saddle Dems with blame for the debacle, and Dems blasting Republicans for heartlessness towards the plight of children fleeing horrible conditions at home.

But what’s really going on here is that both sides are trying to gain advantage in a future battle that will unfold after this crisis recedes: The war over Obama’s decision over how far to go in unilaterally easing deportations.

Multiple reports today indicate House Republicans may not pass anything addressing the border crisis before the August recess. There are divisions within both parties over how to proceed. Republicans are arguing over whether to include anti-DREAMers language in their response. Democrats are arguing over whether to change the 2008 trafficking law to speed removals. All the swirling differences may result in Congress punting on the crisis entirely. If that happens, it’s unclear how the politics will shake out, since both sides are taking a beating from the public over what’s happening.

But however it does play, the consequences could have a big impact on how far Obama goes in acting to solve the broader crisis on his own.

Elizabeth Warren and the limits of liberal enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton

    By Paul WaldmanJuly 18 at 12:31 PM

This morning, Senator Elizabeth Warren gave the keynote address at Netroots Nation, the highest-profile gathering of liberals on the political calendar. It wasn’t the greatest speech ever given, but it highlighted why so many liberals wish Warren would run for president, and the limits of liberal enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton. As actor Mark Ruffalo said after bounding on to the stage as Warren departed, “Wow, Elizabeth Warren, right? Wow.”

Warren is clearly tapping into something significant happening among Democrats. As Noah Weiland puts it, her recent reception has been “indicative of the forces propelling her to an even more prominent stature in liberal circles,” and her message is going “a long way with activists yearning for strongly-principled progressives in Congress,” who are displaying an “increasing urgency to make something more of her popularity.”

Much of this was on display today. Warren began her speech with an old story about how she was told that trying to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was a fool’s errand, because it would anger the big banks and they have too much power. It was perfect for an audience of liberal activists, not just because of how they feel about the banks, but because it tells a story of liberals (or this one liberal) having the guts to take on powerful, wealthy interests and winning, by using government as a tool to restrain those interests and work on behalf of ordinary people.

The theme of Warren’s speech, repeated multiple times, was this: “The game is rigged and it isn’t right.” It’s an excellent theme for a presidential candidacy, because it explains what’s wrong with the country, how it could be changed (un-rig the game), and why this particular person is the one who can bring us to that better future.

The New Captain America Is Black

Posted on July 17, 2014 by shannon

There’s a new Captain America coming to town.

Sam Wilson, Captain America’s longtime partner The Falcon, will be replacing Steve Rogers this fall in the comic book series, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada revealed on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” Wednesday night.

“Well if there is one bird associated with America, it is the falcon,” Colbert remarked.

Wilson will officially take on the cowl and shield in “All-New Captain America #1″ by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen.

Colbert addressed the fact that Wilson is black, to which Quesada said, “I don’t see colors.” This prompted Colbert to ask, “If you don’t see colors, how do you do comic books?”

NWA film casts light-skinned girls as “Fine girls” and dark-skinned girls as “poor”

    July 18, 2014

Colorism and racism has occurred in the entertainment industry for a very long time, but it is seldom as blatant as it is in a recent NWA casting notice.

The movie detailing the trials and success of Compton rap group NWA already has its main characters, but now directors are in the process of casting for minor roles. But a casting call for the film has outlined that they are specifically looking for women with light skin to fulfill the roles as the “fine girls.”

The casting call was posted via Gawker:

A GIRLS: These are the hottest of the hottest. Models. MUST have real hair – no extensions, very classy looking, great bodies. You can be black, white, asian, hispanic, mid eastern, or mixed race too. Age 18-30.

B GIRLS: These are fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies. Small waists, nice hips. You should be light-skinned. Beyonce is a prototype here. Age 18-30.

C GIRLS: These are African American girls, medium to light skinned with a weave. Age 18-30.

D GIRLS: These are African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium to dark skin tone. Character types. Age 18-30.

A lot of the outrage surrounding the casting call has been due to the request that the lower-level girls— ‘D Girls’— be darker-skinned African Americans. Some see the qualifications and grading system as discriminatory.

TMZ reported spoke to a representative of the NWA film’s casting company, Sande Alessi Casting. The rep said that the request on the ad was just an “innocent mistake.” She also mentioned that the film is actually looking for a variation of skin tones for the film’s ‘poor’ girls. The rep claimed that the A-D grades are always used when the company is doing casting, and that it was not meant to offend anyone.

Attorney heroically mentors scores of boys in single parent homes

    Reported by Maria Lloyd

Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons, who was raised by his single mother, missed out on father-son interactions such as tying a tie, cutting the lawn, and replacing a flat tire. To ensure that another Black boy would never have to miss out on the interactions that men have with their children, he and his award-winning television journalist wife Mia Fleming launched a hands-on pilot program in Tulsa, OK titled All In: MVP Mentoring Program™ . The program presented an interactive, application-based curriculum for young men raised in households without an active father/father figure. The 9-week program went beyond academic instruction and focused on relevant and practical life skills critical to success in society.

Further putting a vision into action, Solomon-Simmons and Fleming recruited 55 Black men to become mentors. The response and impact of the recruitment process were so great that the Tulsa World published a touching story about the couple’s work on Father’s Day 2014.

The pending divorce and unfortunate breakdown of the marriage of Apollo Nida and Phaedra Parks is one of the most talked about relationship outcomes in America right now. With Apollo on his way to prison for fraud, Phaedra is giving the impression that she knew nothing about what he was doing, with The Real Housewife slowly but surely distancing herself from the situation so as to protect her assets and her children.

In a recent string of media appearances, Apollo talks about his future in prison and the state of his relationship with Phaedra. He says that Phaedra “didn’t even come to the f**king sentencing,” and seems to feel that she’s abandoned him when he needed her the most.

Creflo Dollar’s net worth is nearly 100 times greater than the average member of his congregation

By admin in Christian News, Uncategorized · July 18, 2014
    By Nigel Boys

According to a recent article by Thabiti Anyabwile, in the Atlanta Black Star, while some pastors struggle to make ends meet, others make as much as 200 times more than their average congregation member’s salary.

In the article “Eight Black Pastors Whose Net Worth is 200 Times Greater Than Folks in Their Local Communities,” Anyabwile pointed out the net worth of these mega-rich pastors, alongside the average earnings of their church members.

The list of pastors who earn far more than they can possibly spend or are worth, include two from Nigeria, 4 from the U.S. and one from England.

David Oyedepo of Living Faith World Outreach Ministry has a net worth of $150,000,000 and Christian Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, Lagos, Nigeria is worth $50,000,000, while the average earnings in their country is about $2 per day.

A third pastor in Nigeria, Temitope B. Joshua, of the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Lagos, has a net worth of $15,000,000, while 55% of those around him earn less than $2 per day.

Creflo Dollar tops the list in the U.S. with a net worth of $27,000,000, as compared to the average salary in the neighborhood of College Park, Georgia of $29,640. He is closely followed by T.D. Jakes of the Potter’s House, Dallas, Texas, with a net worth of $18,000,000 while his congregation earns only $56,954 on average.

Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, Georgia is the third American pastor on the list with a total net worth of $5,000,000 and a neighborhood average salary of $25,154.

Although his net worth is not listed, Charles Blake of West Angeles Church of God in Christ, South Central Los Angeles has a yearly salary of $900,000 and owns a 10,000 square foot mansion in Beverly Hills. The neighborhood average salary around his church is $27,907.

Last but by no means least, is Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo of Kingsway International Christian Center, London, U.K. His net worth is said to be $10,000,000 but most of his home country members in Nigeria earn less than $2/day.

The long and the short of it is this, no matter what your pastor teaches you about the false doctrine of prosperity gospel or however he claims that he made his money otherwise, he has been making himself rich from your donations, according to Anyabwile.

    http://allchristiannews.com/creflo-dollars-net-worth-is-nearly-100-times-greater-than-the-average-member-of-his-congregation/

    • As a strong believer in social justice therefore, I hold that everyone who works should be compensated, including pastors. Having said that, I’m appalled and repulsed by the article above. The prosperity gospel has to be one of the most dangerous heresies of our time. It is nothing but a deliberate distortion to the holy Gospel of Jesus Christ. All you have to do is read the beatitudes. Where does our Lord say, ‘Blessed are the rich, or Blessed are the powerful’? On the contrary, Jesus exhorts his followers to seek treasure not on earth but in heaven. Furthermore, he commands us to help the poor and warns of dread consequences if we don’t. It makes you wonder if these men of God have ever read the Bible at all.

    • Hey Ametia, I had the same reaction as I read through my TL and read PBO’s comments. I realize that he and the administration are under tremendous pressure from the Right and perhaps more troublingly, from the unwavering Israel backers in his own party, but I would have hoped that he would have at least used this opportunity to express our concern for the ordinary people of Gaza. That said, he like all US presidents are boxed in by the exigencies of domestic and international politics. I know PBO doesn’t believe Netanyahu (I refuse to use his cutesy nickname) for one minute but he can’t say so publically or risk being attacked as anti-Israel. Frankly given the power dynamics in DC, this situation wont change until US politicians feel they have enough political space to pursue a more balanced approach to the conflict. There are a few organizations dedicated to a two-state solution but they are small and underfunded and their impact on US policy is negligible. We have to be the change we want to see, we have to let politician know that we want a two-state solution with a sovereign Palestinian homeland. And are prepared to support candidates and politicians who are working earnestly to that end and will punish those who don’t. This effort will require all of us, PBO can’t do it alone.

      • Good comment! And truth-telling!

We have to be the change we want to see. I concur about PBO not believing Netanyahu’s bs. Just so sad the Palestinian people have to suffer unspeakable atrocities. Thinking about those 4 little boys blown up grieves my soul.

The Billionaire Who Wants to Split California Into 6 States Has the Most Embarrassing YouTube Feed Ever

—By Ben Dreyfuss| Tue Jul. 15, 2014 2:31 PM EDT
    MOTHER JONES

This is a post about Tim Draper. Tim Draper is a billionaire tech investor of no particular importance who has decided that he wants to disrupt geography.

Draper is the man behind the “Six Californias” initiative, which today announced that it had secured enough signatures to put a measure on the 2016 California ballot that would split the Golden State in to six golden states. Should California be turned into six states? Maybe! I don’t know. Probably not. It probably doesn’t make any sense. But maybe it does? Who knows! It isn’t going to be turned into six states, that is certain, but should it in a perfect world of perfection where Tim Draper rides around on a golden steed shooting piercing laser beams of logic out of his eyes? Six Californias For The Price Of One

As I mentioned earlier this week, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Tim Draper says he has the 800,000+ signatures needed to get his effort to split California into six separate states on the 2016 ballot. It’s a ridiculous long shot that would require approval by California’s solidly blue state assembly, and approval by Congress. The political implications are intriguing to say the least. Nate Cohn:

    ………………………………………

The payoff for Democrats: Silicon Valley would be dark, dark blue. Central California would become the first majority Latino state in the US, with South California not far behind. The demographics would heavily favor the Democrats in getting the bulk of the ten new Senators created, and they would almost break even on the electoral college votes, getting 53 by carrying Silicon Valley, and North, West, and South California, instead of the 55 now. Central California and Jefferson would be in play as well, worth another 11 electoral votes. Finally, all this means as many as 8 or maybe even 10 new Democratic senators.

Republicans on the other hand would very much like to win South California’s 17 electoral votes, which would put a damper on the Democrats hopes for the White House. If Republicans could split the 12 senators evenly with the Dems, that would go a long way towards helping them in Congress.

The big problem is Central California and Jefferson would end up being two of the poorest states in the country, particularly Central California. That’s a real issue, and that’s the catch. Silicon Valley would become the wealthiest state, and there you have the main problem with the proposal, an instant increase in America’s inequality.

Democrats need to do everything possible to stop this. It’s Tim Draper’s plan to fund a state For the One Percent, By the One percent, literally at the expense of millions of Californians. It’s a glibertarian scheme to create the ultimate gated community, a gated state, of America’s tech wealthy and leave the rest of California out in the cold when it comes to tax revenue. It’s a terrible proposal.

Six Californias needs to go, big time.

It is believed that delegates to the 20th International AIDS Conference, due to begin on Sunday, will be informed today that 108 of their colleagues and family members died on MH17.

Stunned researchers, activists and development workers arriving at Melbourne Airport paid tribute to AIDS researcher Joep Lange and the other attendees believed killed aboard MH17.

Jonathan Quick, head of a not-for–profit medicine supply company working with the Global Fund and the US government in Africa and Latin America, described Professor Lange as a force for change in HIV/AIDS treatment.
