Rastafarian High School Student Sent Home From School For Ten Days For Having Dreadlocks

by Jack Jenkins Posted on September 4, 2014 at 12:22 pm Updated: September 4, 2014 at 1:05 pm

Legal experts are coming to the defense of a Rastafari high schooler
in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, who was kicked out of class for having
dreadlocks, arguing that school officials violated his right to
    religious freedom.

    According to a letter
published last week by the Louisiana chapter of the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU), a student — identified only as “John Doe” — was
sent home from the first day of school at South Plaquemines High School
on August 8th because his dreadlocks were too long. The student
reportedly tried to return to school at least twice, but was repeatedly
dismissed — even after he pinned up his dreadlocks to meet length
    requirements.

“Although the school has not given John Doe written notice of his
suspension, the actions of the school and Superintendent Rousselle are
the equivalent of an unlimited suspension,” the letter read.

School dress codes have a tendency to spark controversy,
but the incident in Louisiana is complicated by the fact that the
student, who ultimately missed ten days of school because of the
dispute, claims to be a follower of the Rastafari tradition, a
monotheistic religion that draws upon Judaism and Christianity and is
popular in Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean. Not all Rastafari
communities conscript believers to sport dreadlocks, but many Rasta
males — including late musician and Rastafari Bob Marley — believe that growing long, locked hair is required by Leviticus 21:5,
which reads, “They shall not make bald spots upon their heads, or shave
off the edges of their beards, or make any gashes in their flesh.” As
such, the ACLU’s letter argues that sending the student home violates
his First and Fourteenth amendment rights — especially his freedom of
    religion.

Georgia Secretary Of State Laments That Democrats Are Registering Minority Voters

by Josh Israel Posted on September 11, 2014 at 1:46 pm

A day after the Senior Deputy Whip for the Georgia Senate Republicans vowed to block early voting dates and locations that he felt would attract African American voters, a progressive group released audio on Wednesday of Georgia’s Secretary of State warning fellow Republicans that Democrats might win because they are registering minority voters.

The audio, posted on YouTube by Better Georgia, features a man identified as Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp telling fellow Republicans at a July 12, 2014 event in Gwinnett County:

In closing I just wanted to tell you real quick, after we get through this runoff, you know the Democrats are working hard, and all these stories about them, you know, registering all these minority voters that are out there and others that are sitting on the sidelines, if they can do that, they can win these elections in November. But we’ve got to do the exact same thing. I would encourage all of you, if you have an Android or an Apple device, to download that app, and maybe your goal is to register one new Republican voter.

I like this picture. The little girl with outstretched arms, looking at POTUS as though she’s known him all her life. I love the turquoise flower in her hair too. I have to believe that, at these moments, PBO thinks it has all been worthwhile.

Police: Palin Family Involved In 20-Person Brawl At Party

Author: Jameson Parker September 11, 2014 1:09 pm

The Palin clan, including Mama Palin herself, was allegedly involved in a huge verbal and physical fight over the weekend when they got drunk at a friend’s party. Punches were thrown, lips were bloodied, and Sarah Palin reportedly scream, “Do you know who I am?” at people telling her to calm down.

According to Alaskan political blog, The Immoral Minority, the Palins were at a party when – allegedly fueled by alcohol – Track Palin (that would be Sarah and Todd’s oldest son) confronted a man who had formerly dated one of his sisters. Words are exchanged, then Bristol (that would be Sarah and Todd’s oldest daughter) started punching people. Eventually the entire family is yelling and fighting. One source claims Todd was calling people the C-word and acting belligerent. Somewhere a reality tv executive is crying at the lost potential.

    • Liza says:

“Do you know who I am?”

Yeah, Sarah, you’re the half term former governor of Alaska who presidential candidate John McCain used to attract uneducated, low information white voters. And, the truth is, you had better luck with those kind of folks than he was having. You then used your success in connecting with ignorant white folks to get their money out of their wallets and into yours in every way imaginable.

Yes, we know who you are. And we don’t care.

In D.C., a 13-year-old piano prodigy is treated as a truant instead of a star student

    By Petula Dvorak Columnist
    September 8 

Avery Gagliano is a commanding young pianist who attacks Chopin with the focused diligence of a master craftsman and the grace of a ballet dancer.

The prodigy, who just turned 13, was one of 12 musicians selected from across the globe to play at a prestigious event in Munich last year and has won competitions and headlined with orchestras nationwide.

But to the D.C. public school system, the eighth-grader from Mount Pleasant is also a truant. Yes, you read that right. Avery’s amazing talent and straight-A grades at Alice Deal Middle School earned her no slack from school officials, despite her parents’ begging and pleading for an exception.

“As I shared during our phone conversation this morning, DCPS is unable to excuse Avery’s absences due to her piano travels, performances, rehearsals, etc.,” Jemea Goso, attendance specialist with the school system’s Office of Youth Engagement, wrote in an e-mail to Avery’s parents, Drew Gagliano and Ying Lam, last year before she left to perform in Munich.

Although administrators at Deal were supportive of Avery’s budding career and her new role as an ambassador for an international music foundation, the question of whether her absences violated the District’s truancy rules and law had to be kicked up to the main office. And despite requests, no one from the school system wanted to go on the record explaining its refusal to consider her performance-related absences as excused instead of unexcused.

    Apollo Nida

    Now a Prisoner

    Leaves Pissed Off Wife Behind

9/10/2014 8:36 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Apollo Nida is on his way to prison right now — at the time this story was posted — but we’ve learned he went out with a nightclub bang that has royally pissed off his wife.

Phaedra Parks is telling friends Apollo has essentially abandoned his family for the last 2 months … choosing drinking and strip clubs over his wife and 2 kids.

She says over the last week things got so bad and so tense she feared physical abuse … although nothing happened. The 2 haven’t even spoken in a week.

Apollo now begins his 8 year prison sentence for cashing stolen checks and laundering more than 2 million dollars.

We spoke to Apollo … who had no comment … but we’re told he’s pissed off at her for various reasons, including the fact that she didn’t show up for his court hearings and she’s been on a book tour during the last few months … rather than comforting him.

A rep for Phaedra tells us the situation has put a “tremendous strain” on her family … and she’s working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone’s lives

Another KILLER getting away with MURDER!

Former Olympian Oscar Pistorius found ‘negligent’ in girlfriend’s death
A judge in South Africa has found Oscar Pistorius “negligent” in the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius not guilty of premeditated murder or murder charges, however, saying prosecutors had not proven that he knew Steenkamp was behind the bathroom door when he fired four shots into it at his home.
