Mrs Obama is spectacular… I love her strength, I love her decency, I love her integrity, I love her dignity, I love her sincerity, I love her humility which Maya Angelou rightly described as authentic and deeply respectful and acknowledging of the ancestors who bore the deepest burdens on all of our behalf, I love her mind, wisdom, brilliance and big brain as Toni Morrison poetically describes it, I love her grace even under pressure, I love her wit, her sense of humor, her groundedness, I love that she’s at once tough, no-nonsense, but also sweet, bashful, and when she needs to be, reticent. I love how she loves, respects and supports her husband so passionately, but isn’t a step-ford wife. I love how she loves being a mom and wears her mom badge so proudly and unabashedly. I love how much she values family…
I love that there’s absolutely nothing generic about her, that she doesn’t reinvent herself and her life story to fit or to pander or to be accepted. I love how she could easily have gotten sucked into and desperate to be accepted, turned her life upside down to be acceptable to the hoity-toity, the influence purveyors and the kingmakers, but she instead refused and continues to live and enjoy life completely on her own terms – never beholden to anyone.
And after all these years, she’s still so recognizable and unaffected and so beautifully and unapologetically herself…
Bravo, Mrs. Obama.
You make me so proud that you are our First Lady.
