Breaking: South Carolina’s House votes, 94-20, to remove the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds

S C House members celebrateThe South Carolina House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly early Thursday to remove the Confederate flag from the Capitol grounds.

The final vote of 94-20 after some 13 hours of contentious debate is a stunning turn for the state that was the first to leave the Union and the site of the first shots in the Civil War.

The effort to remove the flag from the Statehouse grounds gained new moment following the shooting massacre of nine black members of the historic Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church after a Bible study in Charleston last month. The alleged shooter, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, featured the Confederate flag prominently in photos on a white supremacist website, prompting a new round of calls for its removal from public sites.

The state House passed the Senate version of the bill, approved Tuesday and written to remove the Confederate flag from the grounds of the Capitol. The bill will now go to South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who has called for the flag’s removal, for her to sign.

Rep. Jenny Horne: “I cannot believe that we do not have the heart in this body to do something meaningful, such as take a symbol of hate off these grounds on Friday,” said Horne, in tears. “If we amend this bill, we are telling the people of Charleston, ‘We don’t care about you. We do not care that somebody used this symbol of hate to slay (nine) innocent people who were worshiping their God.’”

I’m sure those nutzzzz are falling over at the Conservative Outhouse in wholesale fashion about now. They must be rolling around like acorns in a storm.
So those racist nutzz who kept saying “The South shall rise again” were wrong ?? I’ll bet they’re not even smart enough to figure this all out.

This is the beginning of the end I believe.

Only in America have the LOSERS of a civil war been allowed to raise their battle flag in public places, have monuments to their LOSER leaders, and have streets and public buildings named after LOSERS.

This is one flag coming down and that’s a good thing. But all the Confederate sh!t needs to go and they need to stop teaching their revisionist version of the American civil war.

    • Ametia says:

Gov Niiki Haley needs to sign that bitch like years ago. GET.IT.DONE.

It’s pretty hard to recognize as a war hero, someone, who as part of a group who split from the main part of the country who got you freed from the yoke of England, then attacked and killed his own fellow citizens…………and with glee to boot.

Clint Eastwood had it all wrong with his movie Josie Wales…….but then again, this is the same guy talking to an empty chair.

      • Ametia says:

Eastwood is part of the culture-problem. Hollywood too. His films are all about white heroes

      • Liza says:

It defies reason that this country has allowed the south to glorify the Confederacy. I realize how fortunate I was, growing up in the south, to have gone to a Catholic school and spared all of this. The Dominican nuns were not enamored of the Confederacy, to say the least. But on the other side of town, west Jacksonville FL, there were two high schools named Robert E Lee and Nathan B Forrest. They just won a vote in recent years to rename Forrest. The Lost Causers most definitely lived on the west side, still do.

      *tears*

I can only imagine what Rep. Patsy Knight, born in 1938, has witnessed and experienced in her lifetime and what emotions are represented in that hug.

  6. Dayummmmm….

Another COWARD who probably got someone else to type this. They burn churches and kill. The HATE consumes them.

The last laugh is on them, because it’s all about the their SELF-HATE.

I’m sure they have choice words for Rep. Jenny Horne too.

  7. Denise says:

    God bless the day
