    @TheToast2015
Interesting point: if Sandra Bland was to report to the university for a job, she would’ve had a drug screening (1)

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
The police down there are claiming she smoked/ate all the marijuanas (2).

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
If Sandra Bland took a drug test at the university, and she ate/smoked all the marijuanas per the police, it would show up on the test. (3)

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
    (4) If the marijuanas DON’T show up on Sandra Bland’s job drug-test but is on the autopsy, when would she have had time to smoke/ingest?

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
    (5) Because Mr. Po Po scrambled after her right after she left the school and carted her off to jail.

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
    (6) So when would she have had time/opportunity to smoke/ingest all the marijuanas?

    DALAYYYY @TheToast2015
    (7) And if you are so confident in your 1st autopsy why were you trying to get her body back for a new, more credible autopsy?

Sandra Bland had marijuana in her system, DA reported as saying
    July 23, 2015

Sandra Bland, the black woman found hanging dead in a Texas jail days after a traffic stop, smoked or possibly swallowed a large amount of marijuana while in custody, her family’s attorney reported the district attorney as saying.

Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis made the disclosure in a text message to attorney Cannon Lambert, who has called the state’s autopsy on the Chicago-area woman defective, Lambert said.

“Looking at the autopsy results and toxicology, it appears she swallowed a large quantity of marijuana or smoked it in the jail,” Mathis said in a text message to Lambert that the attorney provided to Reuters.

Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the text. Repeated calls to Mathis’ office were not returned.

“This will of course be very relevant in any future criminal or civil litigation,” the message from Mathis to Lambert said.

The Guardian describes Sandra Bland’s police encounter in a way that you’ll never see in mainstream US media:

The dashcam footage shows an initially routine traffic stop for failing to signal a lane change turn into an aggressive encounter as the trooper, apparently furious that Bland refused to stop smoking, repeatedly orders her to get out of her car, yells at her, says he will “yank” her out then draws his Taser and shouts: “I will light you up.”

So I was listening to NPR this morning, and a reporter said later today, we’ll have on a judge who will speak about ‘CONTEMPT of COPS’

I’m giving this segment the SIDE-EYE

Check out this article link. It’s from 2009

    July 29, 2009
Contempt of Cop v. Contempt of Court

The fairly arbitrary exercise of judges’ power to cite, fine, and even imprison for “Contempt of Court” hasn’t much been criticized in four decades. The last time I can recall a harsh spotlight being shone on the institution of “contempt of court” was when the antics of the Chicago Seven (Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Mr. Jane Fonda, etc.) at the end of the Sixties overwhelmed the irate judge.

As I’ve suggested before, “contempt of cop” needs to remain in a legal grey area below the certainties of “contempt of court.” Yet, the concept can’t be dismissed out of hand. Policemen aren’t judges, although they need to share in some of the awful majesty of the law to do what needs to be done effectively and safely. Moreover, they deal with people in much more, uh, exuberant settings than a courtroom, so cops should (and typically do) cut people more slack than judges do.

Nothing about that disgusting cop encounter was JUST, LEGAL, or RIGHT.

    • Liza says:

The encounter between the cop and Sandra Bland is disturbing on so many levels. For the cop, the point of no return was when she said she didn’t have to put her cigarette out. She was sitting in her car waiting for him to write the ticket, she had already accepted she was getting the ticket, she was just waiting. So, what was his problem about the cigarrette.

But once this happened, the cop changed his demeanor from just being a moderate a$$hole to a full out, near homicidal maniac. First, he assaults her in the car. Then, failing to get her out of the car, the taser comes out and he tells her he’ll “light her up.” By this time, he is no longer a cop. He is an enraged man who is INTENT ON DOING HARM TO HIS VICTIM. His screaming, the excessive force, the “arrest” without cause, handcuffing her and removing her glasses, and finally the beating out of view of his dash cam (while unaware of the bystander filming) clearly indicates that this was not about a cop doing his job. This was an enraged, out of control predator who was determined to hurt his victim. That’s why Sandra kept saying, “Does this make you feel good?”

So, imagine being on the receiving end of this from the moment the cop assaults Sandra and tries to forcibly remove her from the car. Imagine watching him completely lose control of himself knowing that he is a police officer who can kill you and get away with it. That cop would have scared the living hell out of me.

      • Liza says:

He’s been a cop for a short time, about a year, but I suspect he has a history of violence whether or not it’s been reported. This certainly doesn’t appear to be his first time. That man is seething with rage and has no business being a cop.

Interesting how absolutely no information about him seems to be available. Even his LinkedIn profile was scrubbed.

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

      Such a horrifying reality!

    • eliihass says:

An even more frightening reality SG is that a ‘calm’ Dylann Roof who murdered 9 innocent people in cold-blood is treated with infinitely more dignity, respect, regard, and considered to be of ‘model’ behavior, than an innocent young murdered woman Sandra Bland unlawfully stopped for a road infraction.

Her crime? Being a black woman. And having an ‘attitude’.

If I hear one more black person offer up that rubbish disclaimer line of ‘her attitude’ wasn’t ‘the best’, I’ll puke. Under her circumstances, she was actually pretty calm and rationale and made too much sense which is what pissed that little man off.

These harmful narratives about black women have been fed the public and so any time a black woman stands up for herself in unfair situations (because nobody else will), she’s immediately pegged as having an ‘attitude’. Punishable apparently by death.

Remember Charlena Cooks? The 8 months pregnant who was handcuffed and thrown to the ground after a still nameless white woman called the police to complain after they had a passing altercation in her kid’s school parking lot.

‘I will light you up!’: Texas officer threatened Sandra Bland with Taser during traffic stop
By Abby Ohlheiser and Abby Phillip July 21 at 6:59 PM

Newly released police video shows a Texas trooper threatening Sandra Bland with a Taser when he ordered her out of her vehicle during a routine traffic stop on July 10, three days before she was found dead in a county jail. (Editor’s note: This video contains graphic language.) (Texas Department of Public Safety)

According to newly released police video, a Texas trooper threatened Sandra Bland with a Taser when he ordered her out of her vehicle during a routine traffic stop on July 10, three days before she was found dead in a county jail.

Bland was stopped for failing to signal while changing lanes, but the routine traffic stop turned confrontational after the officer, Brian Encinia, ordered Bland to put out her cigarette.

“Would you mind putting out your cigarette, please?” Encinia said.

“I’m in my car, why do I have to put out my cigarette?” Bland answered.

“Well, you can step on out now,” Encinia said.

Bland refused, saying she did not have to step out of the car.

Encinia opened the driver’s door and attempted to physically remove Bland from the vehicle.

“I’m going to yank you out of here,” Encinia said as the two struggled in the car. “I’m going to drag you out of here.”

“Don’t touch me, I’m not under arrest,” Bland said.

“I will light you up!” Encinia said, while pointing the Taser at Bland.

At a press conference on Tuesday, State Senator Royce West said that after viewing the video, he could confirm that Bland was threatened with a Taser by the officer.

Details of the confrontation were not included in the arrest warrant written by Encinia, which officials also released Tuesday.

The arrest warrant detailed state trooper Brian Encinia’s version of events. The warrant does not mention the Taser, nor does it elaborate on why Encinia ordered Bland out of the vehicle.

During the incident, Bland repeatedly asks why she is being arrested. The remainder of the confrontation occurs outside of the view of the camera, but the audio captured what appeared to be a struggle.

Bland is heard saying that the officer “just slammed my head to the ground.”

Later, when a female officer arrives at the scene, Encinia tells her that Bland “started yanking away, then kicked me, so I took her straight to the ground.”

In his arrest warrant, Encinia wrote that Bland — a 28-year old African American woman — was pulled over for failing to signal a lane change and he “had Bland exit the vehicle to further conduct a safe traffic investigation.”

    • Liza says:

The hell of it is, the stupid cop’s own dash cam video totally refutes what he wrote in his report. And the bystander’s video fills in a lot of what can’t be seen in the dash cam video. But the cop planned on giving her a beating. He threatens her with the taser to get her out of the car, he cuffs her with her hands behind her back, he drags her forcefully (she screams about her wrist) outside the range of the vehicle’s camera, he removes her glasses, and he takes her down and beats her head into the ground.

    • Liza says:

And, of course, he already assaulted her inside the car trying to forcefully remove her before he threatened her with the taser and told her that he would light her up. And he never told her why she was under arrest when she asked repeatedly because she never assaulted him, never had a chance to assault him before he told her she was under arrest.

  49. State Trooper:Put your cig out
#SandraBland: I’m in my own car
State Trooper: Ok step out of the car
What? For not putting out a cigarette?
    HELL to the fucking NO!

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

Thanks so much for posting this, SG2.

I am going to watch it now.

    • Liza says:

This cop went completely out of control but, of course, we already know that. From the moment she tells him she’s not putting out her cigarette he goes from being agitated into a full blown rage and seems to forget everything he learned in cop school. He’s telling her to get out of the car and then attempts to force her out, clearly an assault.
      SB: I’m not under arrest.
      COP: You are under arrest.
      SB: For what?
At the point where the cop assaults the victim, she had done absolutely nothing except talk to him in a way that he didn’t like. She wouldn’t put out her cigarette. Why was he telling her she had to get out of the car and she was under arrest? The report he filed is a crock of sh!t, she never assaulted him, when did she even have an opportunity before being assaulted inside the car, forced out and handcuffed with her hands behind her back? Now handcuffed, she’s screaming at him that he is about to break her wrist indicating excessive force. But then he removes her glasses and takes her to the ground to give her a beating, that is when he’s slamming her head into the ground. That’s why he removed her glasses because he was going to take her down and beat her head into the ground. Then he notices the person filming and tells them to leave.

The reason for arrest is non-existent and the officer’s report is bogus.

One thing I’ve wondered about is whether or not she had a traumatic brain injury as a result of the beating. If she had a slow bleed, it seems that without treatment the effects could have been delayed for a couple of days and the hanging was staged as a coverup. I hope that the independent autopsy that her family had done looked for a brain injury.

The cop needs to be fired and charged with assault. He is a very dangerous man and has no business in law enforcement. I wonder what his record looks like.

‘Assault’ is such a tame word for what this monster did to this young girl..No woman should ever be subjected to this sort of brutality at the hands of any man, and especially not a tax payer trained and paid police officer charged with protecting us…

There’s something terribly heartbreaking about the horribly disrespectful and rough way black women in general are treated and manhandled…

And the never-ending narratives that perpetuate unflattering and demeaning stereotypes about black women specifically, make it even easier for awful racists like this evil man to kill a young black woman – assigning her less than ‘model’ citizen behavior, as a cover to brutalizing her and walking away without any thought that he brutally attacked this young woman for no reason…

As a black woman, she never counted or mattered; As a black woman who dared speak up and refused to wither in his presence, he was incensed and determined to put her in her place.

Black women are quickly tagged ‘argumentative’, ‘combative’ as a way of justifying the dehumanizing treatment more often than not meted out…

No mention ever about the constant disrespect, demeaning, diminishing, dismissing, and dehumanization that most black women are faced with every single day in a society that says that we are ugly, unattractive, have an ‘attitude’, undeserving of chivalry – unless in a few instances if we remake ourselves in some white beauty image, and play damsel in distress or sweet sex kitten, and never be taller than 5’4″ or a size 2, and do our darndest to appeal to white men and black men alike…Because being seen as attractive and sexy is an automatic pass in our shallow society…And those deemed otherwise are out of luck…

This young woman – an activist who was conscious and aware and worse still, knew her rights, never stood a fighting chance – Even if she played wilting damsel to this officer who stopped her for no good reason, he still would have treated her with condescension and disrespect…The hardened stereotypes in the heads of white men like him are impossible to shake.

“Combative’. ‘Argumentative’. These two descriptors have been used time and again as excuse to hurt and kill more black women than we’ll ever be able to count…

      • Eliihass, I tweeted your “Combative’. ‘Argumentative’ comment. It blew up Twitter. Blew IT UP!
