Jim Carrey worries me… He jokes and the audience cracks up and loudly applaud…

But behind all that funny is a man who has been battling serious depression for years – and who just returned just a few weeks ago from being pall-bearer at the funeral of his on-again, off-again girlfriend who committed suicide…

And he brought Pauletta and the kids on the stage with him…

Must have burned some folks – especially those women who are always plotting and sniffing and cooking up assorted ways to insinuate themselves into a married man’s life to try to displace his wife…Pauletta knows too…

ALL KINDS OF SHADINESS FROM THE WHITE FOLKS AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES THIS YEAR

      LOL..

Your heads up should have been when they announced Denzel Washington as this year’s honorary Cecil B. DeMille award, and Jamie Foxx’s daughter as ‘Miss Golden Globes’…

That’s always your clue that they’re about to screw ‘the blacks’ in the actual categories..

      • Ametia says:

I figured as much, ellihaas. These movies are made specifically for and by white folks so they can sit back and congratulate each other on how brilliant they are.

        • eliihass says:

But more importantly, Gringo is pretty slick – or think they are…

But Taraji got hers…I could have called that too…Gringo is quite predictable even when trying hard not to be… it’s quite something to behold and witness to when one understands the mind and workings of Gringo…

      • Ametia says:

Viola Davis nailed it last year at Emmys

        • eliihass says:

          She did…

But something was quite off with the show and everything tonight…I don’t dabble, and I’m not a believer – but might be the whole mercury in retrograde thingy…

I’m seeing some signs that the Flint water scandal story is growing tentacles in social media. Lizz Brown has been all over it today on Twitter. And Michael Moore is a Flint native, so he’s on it too.

This is one of the most horrendous things I’ve seen. Coddling and sending snacks to grown men who are demanding land and amenities for free while folks who are just trying to live and get by are poisoned by their government to save some money. Something twisted in all of this. This should see many people behind bars…but will it?? I know for sure many people’s lives are irreparably changed and now they are left to pay for the sins of greedy and power hungry individuals. Shameful!!

Samuel P. Bolling was born on this day in 1819.

    From Wikipedia:

Samuel P. Bolling (born January 10, 1819, died February 8, 1900) was an African-American landowner, politician, businessman, and former slave who served on the Virginia House of Delegates. In 2013 Bolling, along with his son Phillip S. Bolling, was one of several African Americans that were commemorated by the Commonwealth of Virginia for their service to the Virginia House of Delegates during the time period of 1869 to 1890.

Bolling was born on January 10, 1819 in Cumberland County, Virginia. As his mother Olive Bolling was a slave, Bolling and his brother were both born into slavery as well. After the Civil War Bolling amassed a large amount of property and worked as a farmer, builder, and brickmaker. He married a woman by the name of Ellen, with whom he had six children, which included his son Phillip, who was elected to the House of Delegates in 1883.

He was a member of the Readjuster Party, for whom he worked as an election judge and in 1885, an election commissioner. In 1883 he was elected to the Cumberland County board of supervisors, a position that he was re-elected to the following year. Bolling won a seat in the House of Delegates in 1885 and ran again in 1887, but lost to Nathaniel M. Griggs.[3] After losing the election Bolling remained active in politics and participated in Republican Party politics and also worked with the 1888 congressional campaign of John Mercer Langston.[3]

Bolling died on February 8, 1900 in Cumberland County.

All about drinking water. Governor John Snyder and his emergency managers and other flunkies must be too stupid to do a Google search. Or they are guilty of a crime against humanity.

    • rikyrah says:

it was a criminal enterprise, IMO.

      • Liza says:

Rikyrah, you made a great comment about this being linked to conservative right wing idealogy and I can’t find it now. But that is so important, that is the root of this evil.

We are horrified that people have been poisoned. The extent of the damage isn’t even known, but children could and probably will be affected in ways that limit their opportunities and alter what their lives may have been, even how long they might live. We are horrified. The perpetrators, on the other hand, really don’t care. Right now they are engaged in trying to figure out if they are criminally liable, if they might get indicted or end up in prison. They will NEVER care about the people they hurt.

That’s a tough pill to swallow and so many folks choose not to go there, refusing to believe that elected officials and bureaucrats could be so callous in their disregard for the lives of innocent people. But it’s true, and people can accept this or become potential victims. This could happen anywhere.

      • Liza says:

I keep thinking, it must be hard enough growing up as a poor kid in Flint, Michigan. You already have limited opportunities without being subjected to contaminated drinking water for 17 months.

    • Ametia says:

SPOT ON, Liza. Here’s Rik’s comment.

was a criminal enterprise, born of right-wing ideology.

Because, of course, NOTHING GOOD COULD COME FROM DETROIT.

So, poison the people, because DETROIT could not have gotten the water right.

EXCEPT, Detroit DID have the water purification right.

      THEY POISONED THESE PEOPLE.

      POISONED THOSE BABIES.

      DID PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THEM

      • Liza says:

Thanks for finding and posting that, Ametia. It is such an important point. We see the evidence over and over, like how many times has the GOP house voted to repeal the ACA? It is the same callous disregard for the health and well being of innocent people, even children, even infants for that matter.

  15. Liza says:

So this was in my recommended videos. Impressive, timeless, and universal, an anthem for all of humanity, so it seems.

Residents ordered to pay for lead contaminated water, state of emergency declared
    POSTED 11:22 AM, JANUARY 6, 2016,
    BY KFOR-TV & K. QUERRY AND CNN

FLINT, Mich. – Residents in one Michigan town are furious after being forced to pay for water they say they can’t use.

“I just paid a water bill, $311, shut off notice or they was gonna turn my water off. I can’t drink it,” said Tonya Calhoun.

Calhoun says she paid her Flint water bill, but she’s far from satisfied with the liquid flowing from the tap.

The water supply has a high lead concentration, which could be harmful if ingested.

However, a judge ruled that residents must pay their bill despite the fact that, in many cases, they only use it for bathing.

“The water is just no good, you know, and we have to take our showers in this stuff,” Bill McCluskey told WNEM. “We itch after that. We have to buy water. It’s not fair.”

City residents say they are insulted by the city’s demand to pay up or lose service all together.

“Why am I paying you $311 for some water that I can’t even use? Can’t cook with it. I can’t do anything with it and the funny part about it is, you know it’s harmful,” Calhoun said.

However, city leaders say it is important for residents to pay for their bills, whether they feel it is justified or not.
