There’s nobody in the public sphere who has my heart, my love, my respect, my admiration, my devotion like our first black First Lady of these United States…
It is common knowledge that I would in fact kill for her…
As I’ve often shared, I take my cue about people and things from her…How they respond to and treat her…I judge everything and everyone through that prism…She is after all the ultimate breathing, living, actively being and doing metaphor for black womanhood in all its splendor and pain…wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, role model…She stands publicly and privately and undeniably in that stead…her joys, her successes, her pain, her hurts, the slights…all embodying the full treatment and experience – but only on the world stage where every Tom, Dick, Harry, Ann and Jane gets to have a go at her, and she’s expected to simply suck it up and smile, conform and play along…or else…And even then…
I’ve tried and tried to compose a befitting tribute to her in celebration of her birthday, but nothing I write quite does it…Nothing captures it or her …her unassuming greatness…that never before seen quality of an unequivocal embrace of and living ones authentic self – not by looking to persuade or dissuade – or even to contradict…or to impress or convince through contrived gestures or symbolism…but just by being…
A woman so open, so approachable and relatable – and yet still so unconsciously, deliciously and powerfully enigmatic…A woman who exudes such strength and effortless confidence – and yet we peek such innocence and sweet vulnerability in her eyes..
Nothing feels even remotely or marginally worthy of her – the exquisite woman my eyes, ears, heart, soul and spirit has observed all these years – and come to embrace and very accurately discern…she tugs so powerfully at my heart and causes tears to run freely as I’ve watched her assume and live this thing out before all of our eyes…
Nothing feels good or complete enough…Nothing does her justice – or honors her the way I know she so richly deserves to be honored…
There’s just so much I have and want to say about this fully and uniquely phenomenal and effortlessly complete and unassumingly majestic woman and human being..
If I started to write everything I had to say, it would not only rival Paul’s Epistles…It might actually cause my tear ducts to completely run dry…I write this already through eyes clouded with tears…
There will be time hopefully, to fully convey just how much, and precisely what this incredibly underestimated and outrageously under-appreciated, heartbreakingly under-valued, overlooked and under-utilized grand and magnificent epitome of all that’s best of womanhood and authentic and clear-eyed humanity really means..
So, before the day is over…A very happy birthday to my hero…Our jewel of inestimable value…a woman of great integrity and indisputable character…A well-rounded role model who inspires, captivates, thrills and empowers just by being …
Someday, the whole world will come to see, know and fully understand what I already do…and honor and unquestionably respect the true meaning and value of this great and very deserving woman…
May God continue to bless, guide and protect her and her family as they enter their final year in the White House – and begin plans for the next step of a journey that has forever altered the dynamics of things for them – and for us…
And may she and her family indeed, as she’s always publicly prayed, come out at the end of all this, positively whole and intact…
Happy birthday to a great and spectacular woman, wife, mother, daughter, historic First Lady, role model..
BRAVO!!!!
BRAVO!!!!
Thank you Rikyrah…She’s so deserving…
LOL, Ametia…you never fail to make us all laugh…
Your wonderful tribute made me go in search of a reply about Michelle Obama in 2007 over at Skeptical Brotha Blog.
I’ve never forgotten it since I first read it all those years ago:
I remember this article, Rikyrah.
Whitey is mad because, Barack had the UNMITIGATED GULL to bring that BLACK WOMAN, MICHELLE into the White House
Barack is not Thomas Jefferson, and Michelle is not Sally Hemings.
((((APPLAUSE!))))
Yes, yes, YES!
Beautifully stated, Eliihaas. Thank you for this.
Thank you so much Liza…I love her and admire her very much..
Yasss!

Happy Birthday, First Lady Michelle Obama!
Wishing you much love and all the blessings you so richly deserve, as you celebrate your birthday this year.
So grateful to you for always being your gracious, giving, smart, fun, creative, intelligent, beautiful, stylish LOVING, AUTHENTIC SELF.
What I love must about you is that you can show your outer beauty, UNAPOLOGETICALLY, and not allow anyone to pigeon-hole you into just being just another woman who dresses well.
I see your INNER BEAUTY. I’m sure Malia, Sasha, Mama Marion Robinson, and President Obama see and know your inner spiritual beauty & strength. They know you BEST.
Thank you for being our First Lady and for all your SERVICE to our Country.
WE SEE YOU.
