There is so much to say.

I haven’t been this sucker punched, since I heard about Michael Jackson.

Prince was part of my youth.
Prince was part of my Blackness.
Prince expanded my horizons as to what it means to be a ‘Black Artist’.

There is so much more that we can say.

Please say it in this thread.

    Thank you for this thread, 3Chics, it is wonderful. I was reading this earlier today and thinking about how much it hurts to lose our musicians, and so many have been lost recently. I guess it speaks to how much the music means to us both individually and culturally. I can’t even imagine our lives without the music. It’s good to see that so many people are coming together tonight to honor the life and musical genius of this man, Prince Rogers Nelson, who gave us so much and touched so many lives.

    Sad day here. Tonight I took my daughter downtown to see all the purple. My office (IDS Center,) Mayo Clinic, Basilica of St. Mary, Target Field (Twins stadium) and yes, the new I-35 bridge.

    Ametia, you must have had quite the experience in Chanhassen today. Thanks for sharing the Target Center/First Ave double up. My concerts were the Christmas Eve Met Purple Rain show at the old Met Center (where Mall of America sits now) and a festival downtown around 2006 or 2008. Even the stripped down Jehovah Witnessed version of his concert, I KNOW you got your monies worth.

    VH1 announced today the on-air plans to pay tribute to the late mega-star, Prince.

    Beginning today at 5:30 PM ET, Prince’s iconic movie, “Purple Rain,” will kick of a weekend long marathon. Immediately following the first airing of “Purple Rain,” the network will air a block of his most memorable music videos.

    And throughout the following days, VH1’s Sway will
    host news updates with artists’ memories and fan reactions.

    Prince Performs on the Oprah Show, 1996, Before and After His Interview, and Talks About Emancipation
    Here is video of Oprah’s interview with Prince in 1996 when he released “Emancipation” after he was completely free of his Warner Bros. contract. This is vintage Prince. The man is ever evolving. (See more recent interview on Lopez Tonight)

    Prince hit up a local pharmacy hours before he died — the 4th time he visited this week — indicating his health was far worse than the simple flu.

    TMZ obtained this photo of Prince leaving a Walgreens near his home in Minnesota Wednesday night at around 7 PM.

    Our sources tell us Prince had frequented the Walgreens for years — but last night, people at the store were concerned because he looked much more frail and nervous than usual.

    As we previously reported, Prince’s team told the media he was suffering from the flu. It seemed odd, because his private jet had to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday, just 48 minutes from his home.

    Prince was hospitalized … but was discharged after only a few hours. Our sources in Moline told us at the time they felt Prince left the hospital way too soon because he was “not doing well” and needed further medical care.

    On Saturday, the day after he was released from the hospital, Prince took the stage at a dance party near his home and curiously said, “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”

    Prince died Thursday morning. Officials are investigating the cause of death.

    The last full blown LIVE CONCERT that I attended was PRINCE at Target Center and before the live show, We strolled into Macy’s 5th floor for intimate crowd to mingle with Prince. All totaled, me and a friend paid $250 each for the pre-show and the full blown concert at Target Center.

    The show was to start at 8 pm, and he didn’t show up until close to 10pm.
    Once he got on stage, Prince didn’t disappoint. He tore the roof off that place!

    And then after Macy’s and Target Center, he invited folks to First Avenue, his club in downtown Minneapolis to continue jamming there into the wee hours of the morning.

    WHAT ENERGY, he had. A pure GENIUS.

    Prince will perform for 1,400 fans at Macy’s department store in his hometown of Minneapolis on July 7, the day that his new fragrance, 3121, debuts.

    The Ultimate Prince Xperience package includes one ticket to the private show on the eighth floor of Macy’s downtown department store, one ticket to Prince’s performance at the Target Center that evening and his 3121 perfume.

    Cost of the Xperience package is $250, plus service fees and taxes. It goes on sale Friday at Macy’s Minneapolis. Details are posted on the 48-year-old singer’s Web site.

    “3121” is the title of his last album.

    The fragrance was developed by Philadelphia-based Revelations Perfume & Cosmetics Inc.

    From the Entertainment Weekly report, giving him his propers as an artist:

    Over the course of his career, Prince sold more than 100 million records
    worldwide and won seven Grammys, an Oscar, and a Golden Globe. He was
    inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year he
    was eligible. He released his thirty-ninth studio album, HITnRUN Phase Two, in December 2015.

    When you’re a Black kid, and you didn’t fit into a stereotype, you did have to look to find someone – anyone – that validated you being fine as you are.

    I was never a musician.

    But, Prince did that for me.

    He was Black.

    But, he was also Prince. And, the artistry that he displayed. The music he brought to the world.
    Was brought to the world by a Black man.

    You could be Prince – and everything that meant.

    And, be a Black Man in America.

    That mattered so much.
    So much.

    I liked Michael Jackson, I like Maurice White, I liked Marvin Gaye but Prince I loved. The only entertainer I wanted to meet. To sit down and talk to. The only public figure I am literally crying and mourning over as if I loss a member of my family. My heart is broken.
