The Student Government Association of Florida State University, one of only a few NCAA schools allowed to use Native American mascots, voted in April to discourage headdresses at all athletic games on campus.
According to the FSView, one of the two student newspapers on campus, the resolution states that “[SGA] requests that the wearing of any Native American headdresses shall no longer be permitted into athletic arenas at FSU.”
The SGA cannot officially ban such behaviors, as all resolutions are “formal expressions of the opinion or will of the Senate.” However, the resolution also formally asks the university to consider headdresses at athletic events be considered a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
The resolution states that the opinion is based on the fact that headdresses do not accurately represent the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and that the “Seminole Tribe has expressed its distaste for this appropriation of culture.”
The FSView also quoted an anonymous former SGA member, who said the resolution is a “drastic overstep of authority”:
“I believe the intentions are genuine, and in the best interest in the Seminole Tribe of Florida, I have a great concern for the fact that this could impede on student’s first amendment rights. There’s nothing in national or state legislation that restricts an individuals right to restrict clothing or material, and I believe there are certain consequences associated with the bill that could impede on student’s first amendment rights and could introduce trouble for the university itself.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Adrienne Keene of Native Appropriations said, “Hopefully the ‘tomahawk chop’ is next, and/or the practice of physically painting a student brown/red to play Osceola … But good progress nonetheless!”
The question is what is Secret Service doing about it?

I most certainly hope that she is profiting off of her husband’s success. Nothing wrong with that. People need to get a life. Seriously? When did this pachiie become judge and jury?
I know. She need to go sit down somewhere. Like it’s a bad thing to profit from her own husband’s success? LOL! Where do these fools come from?

In Trump’s rise, allies see harsher American approach to foreign policy
Whether or not he wins, leaders wary of a shift in American foreign policy.
By David E. Sanger and Jim Yardley New York Times MAY 5, 2016 — 9:33PM
WASHINGTON – Alarmed by Donald Trump’s grip on the Republican presidential nomination, world leaders are wrestling with the possibility that, even if he loses the general election, his ascent reflects a strain of American public opinion that could profoundly reshape the way the United States addresses security alliances and trade.
From Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul to the headquarters of NATO in Brussels and the vulnerable Baltic nations along Russia’s western border, officials and analysts said in interviews that they saw the success of Trump’s “America first” platform as a harbinger of pressure for allies to pay up or make trade concessions in return for military protection.
In many capitals, Trump’s policy proposals — his threat to pull out of NATO; his musings about removing the United States’ nuclear umbrella over Japan and South Korea; his pledge to slap huge trade tariffs on China — are regarded with a mix of alarm and confusion. Asked on Thursday if Beijing was concerned about the prospect of a Trump presidency, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, Hong Lei, replied, “We hope the U.S. people from all walks of life would view bilateral relations from a reasonable and objective perspective.”
Stefano Stefanini, a former representative of Italy to NATO and former diplomatic adviser to the Italian president, put it this way: “There is no Donald Trump contingency plan.”
“The mistake that Europe might make is to think the Trump phenomenon might just fade away,” Stefanini said. “The sentiments that Donald Trump is expressing will certainly influence the next administration or the next Congress.”
LOL So my daughter & her husband had some couples time this weekend.
My grandson was with his grandfather. He comes home last night and the conversation went like this.
Daughter: “Last night I said Uh huh to him”
My grandson: “Mommy, use your words.”
My grandson: “I cant understand you when you don’t use words.”
bwa ha ha ha ha
I laughed out loud because I just used “uh huh” in replying in another thread. Y’all better tell me something. LOL!
LMBAO! I was ROTFLMAO when she told me this, SG2.
On one hand it works for us adults for brevity, this lingo stuff, on the other hand it’s tricky with a 4 year old who is learning to communicate effectively, and being taught and encouraged by said parents.
My grandson does not suffer fools lightly.
OMG, that is so funny. Well, he’s absolutely right, people do need to use their words. Communication skills are important.
Liza, he’s too smart for words, (pun not intended) My grandson never says anything to me, unless it’s in a complete sentence.
he’s not down for any foolishness. LOL
that is absolutely too precious for words.
Man, I love it when our children show us the way, and demand that we show it to them.
LOL Rikyrah, he wasn’t having any part of ‘Uh Huh” NONE My daughter said he stood there calmly, but with a demanding look, waiting for her to translate into proper ENGLISH!
She was speechless, but only for a second or two. LOL
So funny!
You have a great grandson, Ametia! He is a four-year-old with common sense…can’t have a conversation without words :)
It was hilariously funny, but thought-provoking, yahtzee.
We must give our young ones the foundation for language, and they can create their own codes from there, just like we did and still do.

Supreme Court sends Obamacare contraceptive coverage case back to lower courts
The justices said there is a possibility for compromise between the government and religious objectors.
By Robert Barnes
May 16 at 11:40 AM
A shorthanded Supreme Court declined Monday to decide challenges to an Affordable Care Act requirement about providing contraceptive coverage, saying that there was a possibility of compromise between religious objectors and the government.
The court punted the issue back to lower courts, and said its unanimous ruling “expresses no view on the merits of the cases.”

The invisible tax on teachers of color
By John King
May 15 at 7:58 PM
John King is U.S. education secretary.
Snip: According to some African American male teachers, the “invisible tax” is imposed on them when they are the only or one of only a few nonwhite male educators in the building. It is paid, for example, when these teachers, who make up only 2 percent of the teaching force nationally, are expected to serve as school disciplinarians based on an assumption that they will be better able to communicate with African American boys with behavior issues.
It is also paid when they have to be on high alert to prepare their students for racism outside of school. “Every time I take my students to an engineering competition, or to speak with industry partners, or to tour colleges, I have to have the code-switching talk,” explained Harry Preston, an African American physics teacher in Baltimore. “That is a mental tax I personally pay as an educator.”
And it is paid when teachers of color are seen as the experts on any question of cultural diversity.

Liza, where are you? LOL
Ha ha, a merger. Perfect. Cancel the election!
Seriously though, Bill Kristol thinks he has better alternatives in the GOP. Makes my head spin. They’re all cut from the same CLOTH.
The reality is that they can’t believe how badly they’ve screwed themselves.

ICYMI
I had to get a new phone yesterday. So, technologically challenged as I am, I’m pissed. I went out and bought the damn SD card for my previous phone- that died after only a year. Put it in the new phone- went into the settings and set it to the SD card. Went and downloaded the apps/games -they put it on the damn phone!!!
So, I spent the afternoon looking up WHY the phone doesn’t take the SD card. Went and downloaded the new program that they said I needed to change the ‘internal storage’ to the SD card, and dammit, it still doesn’t work.
I’m so frustrated because I’m almost out of storage with the stupid phone, and…UGH!!
I’m soooo feeling you, Rikyrah.
I’m sorry Rikyrah, It’s so frustrating.
Good Morning, Everyone :)
Good Morning :)
