Thursday Open Thread | Bernie Sanders expected to push for major Democratic Party shakeup

Bernie shake it upShake it up!  Shake it up!

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is heading to Washington Thursday for back-to-back meetings with President Obama and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. A Senate aide familiar with the planning of the latter meeting said the expectation is that Sanders will push for leadership changes at the Democratic National Committee when the pair sit down. This could include a call for the removal of the party’s chairwoman, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Sanders’ planned meetings come as he is facing mounting pressure to end his presidential campaign. His rival in the Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton, secured enough delegates to become the party’s presumptive nominee on Monday. In spite of Clinton’s victories in Tuesday’s primary contests, Sanders indicated he plans to stay in the race and contest the Democratic convention next month.

The Senate aide noted that Fox News’ Chad Pergram reported that Sanders could ask for the removal of Wasserman Schultz in his meetings with both Obama and Reid. In a series of tweets, Pergram said “some Dem sources believe the key to getting unity” with Sanders after a tough primary campaign is “booting Wasserman Schultz.” Sanders’ campaign has also called for the removal of the co-chairs of the DNC’s standing committee on rules, Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy and former Rep. Barney Frank. The Senate aide expected that Sanders will present Reid with plans that would help him join a post-primary effort to unify the party.

“We’ve been in listening mode for the most part. He’s going to be hearing what Bernie’s ideas are for bringing the party together and hoping he comes with some ideas,” the aide said of Reid. “And hopefully there are some good ones they can work on together.”

If Sanders does indeed call for removing Wasserman Schultz or other DNC leaders, the aide said Reid would be “open to hearing him out.”

Sanders’ campaign did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Yahoo News about plans for the meetings.

  1. Well well, looky here. Can someone tell me why in the living hell did he endorse Hillary and then an hour later put out she is under criminal investigation by the FBI?

Donald Trump being President means that 20 million of my fellow citizens will lose their health care. 20 million.

POTUS and Harry Reid kept the Barbarians at the gate. Just look at what POTUS has vetoed, and imagine what would happen if those pieces of legislation had been signed into law.

If Trump wins they will go piece by piece to erase PBO’s legacy.

    • eliihass says:

Our party should have thought about this before they set about rigging and shutting down the democratic process..

This was always the plan…leave us with no options besides Hillary and then force-feed her to us and when we refuse, guilt us into voting for her…the play book was so sadly mediocre and clear…

And then she and her flunkies pat her on the back, dress her in white and push her out there to tell us what a ‘historic moment’ it all is…

They were so brazen and obvious about it, we all immediately saw through this…and now they want the President to go out there to help them pull off this dishonest and brazen caper…

      So not biting…

      Not happening..

  4. rikyrah says:

POTUS sees Hillary as the person who will try and maintain his legacy.

If the GOP gets the WH, we can look at Wisconsin and Michigan, and North Carolina to see what they would do to the country.

    It’s the 52 Obamacare repeals.

It’s the 1100 laws on the state level with regards to hurt women’s health.

It’s everything they’ve done on the state level come to the federal level.

it’s Medicare into a voucher program.

It’s Social Security being cut and shredded.

Look at Paul Ryan’s so called poverty plan. Trump would sign a Paul Ryan budget.

Too many folks would be hurt by that.

    • I see what you’re saying. I understand that. But Hillary is not the one to do it. Bernie Sanders is right there. He’s 74 years old but he’s no push over. He’s left blood in the streets for civil rights when it wasn’t popular for white people to do so. Bernie’s not scared. Potus is making a huge mistake with Hillary and Bill scandalous Clinton.

    • eliihass says:

If this were the case, the Democratic party should have thought about that and left the democratic process play out naturally and in the most organic manner…instead of preemptively clearing the field and planning a Hillary coronation from the get-go to trap us into having no other options –

And just so they could now make this very lame case about ‘protecting the gains made’….which by the way, the President himself said in that interview a few weeks ago, would be almost impossible to reverse..

Please, we had plenty of options, and the Democratic party made a very conscious decision and effort to shut it all down for the Clintons….

We only even got exercise our democratic voices only because Bernie stood up and challenged the Democratic party’s brazen Clinton coronation nonsense…

They never planned to have a primary…And where was our smart, upright constitutional law professor President as his party brazenly rigged the democratic process he swears and strongly believes in and routinely urges us all to fully and vibrantly engage and participate in …and make our voices heard…

Where we meant to just ‘participate’ by rubber-stamping the rigged undemocratic coronation …is that all we’re good for…

Please at some point, can we stop insulting the intelligence of a huge selection of perfectly smart and decent people who only wanted our democratic process left alone to work as it was meant to…And if Hillary was so great and able, what were they so afraid of…why couldn’t she compete fair and square in a robust and organic democratic process…show us her mettle…I might even have begrudgingly accepted and voted for her had this been the case …had she won fair and square instead of the party force-feeding her us…And even with everything set up and handed to her on a platinum platter…even with every last party big wig and small wig and everything in between working for her…even with every advantage and rigged process…and even with sitting members of the President’s cabinet actively campaigning and working for her…she barely limped along…and still needed the President to show up and not just put his toe, but stand on the scale for her…Bernie exposed her weakness as a candidate…even with her ‘popular’ former president husband behind her…

That is not democracy…and the President of all people knows better…if the republicans did this, we would all be horrified and mock them…

So forgive me if I’m not moved by this lame argument…the President should have asked them to not rig the process from the start…we would have had real options..

I’ll take the President at his word à la Hillary…The President said just last month that his legacy was pretty secure regardless…I take him at his word…

      • Ametia says:

Co-sign! The president is Mo victim here. He is making choices. And some of his choices are not going to benefit us. The voting process has long been compromised. The Dem party has done further damage by uurning back all the positive we experienced in 2008.

Change & hope? Instead, these mofos hope that change goes away.

Please start commenting on new open thread. This one’s slowing down for many comments. Thanks!

    • Liza says:

Oh, what a difference eight years makes. But he was right the first time in 2008.

    • Ametia says:

LOL Oh the games people PLAY.

      • eliihass says:

And this is precisely why young people who were so hopeful in 2008, have all become jaded…

This is why they all swarmed to Bernie..

They were tired of being bamboozled…

Tired of being charmed and seduced and being worked over..tired of being cultivated and exploited..

They decided that the 74 year old hippie who isn’t cool and doesn’t do stagecraft and has remained true, consistent and for the most part uncorrupted in his words, actions and values…

The unassuming 74 year old who isn’t looking to seduce you with his wiles, charm or swagger … but just wants to tell the truth about the state of our union and the inhumane state of affairs, the unabated injustice, obstruction to basic human, civil rights and social services routinely offered by other advanced countries to its citizens as a right, but which remains artificially ‘unattainable’ in the so-called most advanced nation in the world…and only because the greedy, powerful oligarchs who have turned basic human rights into businesses with obscenely huge profit motives and margins…and fund and control the politicians who make and pass the laws to maintain the status quo, have wanted, and insist that things remain exactly as they please..

How do you continue to try to cultivate young people, when you contradict yourself in such obviously transparent …and in the most pertinent ways…and for what…for the very same two-bit corrupt politicians you said had had their time, hadn’t done better and had actually failed the people…

And instead of grooming a worthy successor over the past 7 years …utilizing the massive goodwill and fantastic campaign infrastructure built…it’s all turned over – shallow, flaky, opportunistic campaign operatives included – to the very same corrupt candidate that we were told to rightfully reject…and then turn around and try to make a rather sad and lame and swiss cheese hole-y case for it…

        Too sad…

And I can assure you that most of the young people I know who are either all in with Bernie, or just completely done with politics …aren’t going to be moved…

Sometimes you wonder if these politicians and their media friends, think we are just so dumb …that we can’t see or hear them even as they arrogantly strategize, plot and preview their next moves on how to hoodwink folks, right before our eyes…

    • Ametia says:

You’ve CHANGED so much, and now you’ll say anything.

Backing Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who in her role as DNC Chairman, she could have worked to recruit and build new leaders.

Entrenched politics is smothering the Democratic Party. if the Dems where so on board with preserving PBO’s legacy, they would have done everything to support him these past 7 years during all that GOP OBSTRUCTION.

NOW, everyone of them are coming out in lockstep to shout from the roof tops about the BIG, BAD, REPUBLICANS! Why, to help usher that WITCH into the WH.

      I.CAN’T

Listen to the part where the black guy asks about FLOTUS…also listen to the part where another guy asks if Hillary needing the President to rally for her, doesn’t prove that she’s weak…and also same guy asks about Bernie…asks some good but hard questions..

You guys already know how I feel about Josh Earnest…and the lot of them..

I miss the early days when POTUS actually listened to FLOTUS and valued her opinion over that of the opportunists that surround him and don’t have his long-term interest at heart…but fan his ego…the bubble can be very muddling..

“…She’s very competitive, and she believes deeply in him and in what we’re doing. I don’t think she’s a pacifist—if she thinks we’re being treated unfairly or doesn’t think we’re being aggressive enough in debunking attacks, she will say so. She does not fold up into the lotus position and start chanting ‘kumbaya.’ She’s against gratuitous attacks but she’s not against defending our position and making sure we don’t get punked…”

Obama won’t endorse any Democratic candidate before primaries are over.White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough announced today that the president will not lend his support to any Democrat in the race until the general election. At that point, McDonough said on NBC’s Meet the Press, “We’ll do exactly what has been done in the past.”

Of course, Obama’s decision not to endorse a candidate during primary season does break somewhat with tradition. Back in 2000, President Bill Clinton endorsed Al Gore while Democratic opponent Bill Bradley was still in the running for the nomination. It’s a favor Gore declined to return to this cycle’s Clinton, though silence from Obama is a far more interesting development than Gore’s demurral.

  7. rikyrah says:

    About the endorsement:

POTUS sees the enemy as Trump and wants to defeat him. Hillary, he sees, is the instrument to do that. So, he’s done things all along for the good of the party.

    • Trump is the enemy. Bernie is not. Even you stated in your articles the Democrats were attaching themselves to an albatross with Hillary. So you changed your mind?

      • rikyrah says:

No. I believe that she’s a bad candidate. IF she makes it over the finish line, it will be because POTUS has dragged her across. If she wins, it’ll be 4 years of drama.

    • Ametia says:

The Clintons have been and STILL are doing everything they can to make POTUS the enemy

Truth be told, The Democratic Party has not done a God Damned thing that’s good for this Party by their luke-warm to nill support of said POTUS.

The DEMOCRATIC PARTY BITES the BIG ONE

    • I can’t get with this, Rikyrah. This is not the Rikyrah I know. In 2007 during the primaries and leading up to the election, I didn’t know one damn thing about politics. I learned from YOU at Jack and Jill Politics. I didn’t know jack ISH. I watched and listened to you every single day. I learned from the best. And I don’t buy this coming from you.

      • rikyrah says:

I understand SG2. I wanted someone else. I believe she’s a weak candidate. I believe she comes with all sorts of nonsense. I believe her hangerson will make the Reagan Administration look like a cakewalk. Do I believe that she understands what it means to be ‘ the First’? No. I honestly don’t. I didn’t think POTUS should have chosen her for SOS, but he did it to keep his enemies close and to neutralize her. I am quite weary to think of what her administration would look like. Messy from day one.

    • eliihass says:

The truth is, Trump is no more the enemy than the Clintons are…I know it’s hard to believe or understand, but it is the truth…and in time, more people will come to understand what I mean..

POTUS is making a calculation that by going all in and helping Hillary, she will owe him…and she and Bill will be less inclined to do their underhanded stuff…and even less inclined – or able – to carry out their desire to erase him while usurping his robust legacy…and only because he came all out and rescued her and her campaign and her ultimate ambition…

This is a self-interested chess move of sorts by POTUS to forestall the power play the Clintons have never stopped very deftly playing and exacting against him…

The sort of insidious power play that has her serving in his cabinet, while her very best friends and confidantes are in Foggy Bottom – and on the outside – slandering and undermining him…recruiting and funding the President’s own Ambassador to China to run against him…

And her husband gives one convention speech – and with that, takes credit for single-handedly winning the election for the President – but returns to t.v the next day joining the Cory Booker chorus to outrightly contradict and undermine the President on the economy and Wall Street…and just before the elections against Romney …an election that delicately hung in the balance..

The sort of power play that has the President surrounded in the White House by the same inner circle Clinton loyalists like John Podesta (of the recruiting Cabinet staff for the newly minted Democratic President …filling the White House with Clintonistas, while tee-heeing with Hillary at the absolute chaos via e-mail fame) who insinuated themselves into the President’s inner circle, and now run Hillary’s campaign…

The President is a Leo man…as is Bill Clinton..

This is all a game of wits…and ultimately, who owes who…and who is on top and whose legacy is greatest and most endures…and who has the greatest pull and clout when this is all over – and 10 years from now…and whose influence moves opinions, crowds…

The President has the crowds, the Clintons have the machine…and the establishment’s ‘loyalty’…albeit bought and paid for…

Each wants both…they want the crowds, the power, the influence…the final word…Each wants to have the longer, larger, legacy…

In the end, this has very little to do with the masses…except as the consumers and drivers of celebrity and influence…

This has everything to do with power…our politics…and the massive egos – no matter how also well-meaning when it all started – that inhabit it…

  9. rikyrah says:

RUDE PUNDIT WENT TO SEE TRUMP:

Trump was Trump was Trump, the eternal asshole, Barnum without the charm, the grifter in his greatest con. He promised to attack Hillary Clinton, whose name was booed multiple times, and he promised things that, if a Democrat promised them, she’d be called a crazy socialist: “Every American worker of every background is entitled to the same benefits, protections and rights and privileges.” Well, sure, but, like so many things Trump said, like about infrastructure spending and schools “failing,” someone needed to say, “Who the fuck made that happen? The Democrats who tried to pass spending bills or the Republicans who blocked them?”

What was disturbing, though, was the whole zeitgeist in the room. You just see reporters and Trump. There is so very much more. Before the event began, we were treated to a parade of sycophants. Apprentice contestant Omarosa was there and, as pretty much the only African American in the room other than some of the people on cameras, she was instantly everyone’s “I have a black friend” friend, posing for tons of photos. Fox “news” was on all the large TVs, forcing us to see Bill O’Reilly. Then, just before Trump spoke, a parade of wealthy people entered to take their seats; a bunch of them were older men with slicked-back hair, looking like stereotypes of mobbed-up goombahs, all with spray-tanned, multi-bejeweled trophy wives. There were old money couples, walking around like they owned the joint because, you know, they kind of did.

And they became Trump’s slavering fan club, cheering like deranged teenagers at a One Direction show, chanting his name every chance they had. It was so insidious. What you didn’t get was that when Trump said, “[W]e are all suffering and we’re suffering big league and it’s getting worse,” a roomful of extremely rich fucks cheered in agreement. Yeah, they were suffering, these pampered pricks and pussies who probably made more money under the Obama administration than in the rest of their luxurious lives.

One thought stuck with me. It didn’t matter one rat’s fart who became president to these people. It wouldn’t change anything. They would still be privileged and powerful, so all they really gave a goddamn about was seeing their friend Donald get elected because wouldn’t it be a gas to go to parties he would throw at the White House.

Jesus, how they yelled and clapped in approval when Trump said, “We’re going to rebuild our inner cities, which are absolutely a shame and so sad. We’re going to take care of our African-American people that have been mistreated for so long.” Forget the phrase “our African America people,” as if he’s sharing them with us. Who the fuck says these things in a country club with a $200,000 membership fee? And how is that not mentioned in every fucking report about the event? No Democrat would make a victory speech at a country club. They might have fundraisers there, which sucks, but Hillary Clinton was at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a big space with a working class history. Even if it’s become another gentrified area now, at least it made some sense.

        That makes sense, Ametia.

“Folks might believe, including POTUS that Hillary can defeat Trump and save America.”

And, he might have been thinking that he did not want the historical legacy of being responsible for dictator Trump coming into office because he did not endorse Hillary after she gained the delegates to be the Democratic nominee and did not try to unify the party behind the declared nominee.

      • Liza says:

“…while in fact is DIMINISHING his CREDIBILITY, HIS INTERGRITY, HIS HARD-EARNED WORK., HIS HISTORIC PRESIDENCY.”

  10. I have been Ride or Die for Potus since the beginning. Check my work. But I can’t get with this. I stand for what is right & this is not right. You can’t be against politics as usual and then endorse someone under FBI investigation. I’m so sad.

    • Liza says:

      Yeah, so am I. Disappointed.

    • eliihass says:

You know what SG…the President didn’t have to go this way…he could have done differently…better..

Look, if a 74 year old Bernie could pull this many people the right way…there’s absolutely no reason why the much younger, more charming and appealing President with an already built-in crowd of support, couldn’t have done even better…

Bernie proved there was a hunger for doing politics and having our democratic process run the right way…

If the President had the will, he could have and should have pulled an even stronger and larger coalition …and ultimately with that, a vast majority of our country, the right way…it was very much possible…

I know everybody is unwilling to say or hear this but, the truth is, the powerful special interests that own both parties…the stranglehold of big money and special interests…prevent people who know better from doing better…

And sadly, the President was unwilling to go out on a limb and really go all out against them…And Hillary is their candidate…and the President who isn’t that kind of independently wealthy enough – yet – needs some of those deep pockets to help fund his future immediate projects including his presidential library – a library that is billed to cost up to $1 billion and counting..and more than 3x as much as George W. Bush’s …for one thing…

Human beings are flawed..no matter how wonderful…they sometimes make ‘practical’ calls that are in their self-interest…and have absolutely nothing to do with you or me…or the masses…

This was first and foremost a ‘practical, self-interested’ call by the President, and he knows it wasn’t entirely the most honorable way to go…but he made a deal…

With absolutely nothing going for him, Bernie showed it could be done…and the President was infinitely more equipped and able to pull it all off had he the will…but he made other calculations…including the decision not to rock the boat too much…to play along…And now, just as agreed to, he passes the baton to Hillary..

Maybe Trump studied Campaign Management 101 at Trump U
    06/09/16 12:53 PM—UPDATED 06/09/16 01:04 PM
    By Steve Benen
When Donald Trump recently scheduled a speech on energy policy in Bismarck, North Dakota, many Republicans wondered why in the world he didn’t pick a bigger city in a swing state. When he soon after started campaigning in California, where Republicans stand no realistic chance of winning the presidential race, GOP insiders scratched their heads once more.

This New York Times article today won’t improve the party’s confidence in Team Trump’s strategic thinking.
Donald J. Trump has hired a new pollster to help him capture an elusive Republican victory in New York, his home state, two people briefed on the move said.

The pollster, John McLaughlin, will be focusing exclusively on New York, polling to determine what type of climb Mr. Trump would face in a state that hasn’t voted for a Republican in a presidential race since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Though recent polls show Hillary Clinton leading Trump in hypothetical match-ups in the Empire State, the Times article added that the Republican is nevertheless “adamant” about winning New York.

As for how, exactly, he intends to pull this off, Trump isn’t just hiring a pollster. Failed New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino, Trump’s campaign’s co-chair in the state, told CNN the campaign will prevail by “blanketing the upstate region with signs and bumper stickers.”

You might think I’m making this up. I’m not. Hitting upstate New York with yard signs is part of the campaign’s recipe for success in one of the nation’s most populous states. (Carl Paladino lost his 2010 gubernatorial race in New York by 29 points. I just thought I’d mention that.)

Note, the same CNN report added that Republican officials in North Carolina and Michigan are “yet to hear from” anyone with the Trump campaign, and the presumptive GOP nominee “doesn’t have so much as a state director” in battlegrounds such as Ohio and Colorado.

  12. eliihass says:

Ask yourselves fam, why the sitting President is going out so prematurely on the campaign trail with the ‘strongest, most qualified, toughest, ready on day one, veteran politician, who’s husband – a former president, is touted as the best politician and campaigner ever’…

What the heck is going on here..

I said as much here yesterday…

The President should be careful …or else by the time this is all over, he will be so mired and dragged down in the mess that is the Clintons…

The mess and entanglement here is real…and it has the potential to fell even the most unsuspecting people in the process..

FLOTUS knows it too…but she’s been outnumbered by opportunists who are leading her husband astray..

    Power intoxicates and corrupts…

They blindsided him with this video…

Didn’t even have the decency to wait until he got to the Capitol…little less finished his meeting at the Capitol with Harry Reid..

    This was disrespectful and humiliating..

    Shameful..

But, the Democratic party will regret this…

    Mark my words..

Bernie will have the last laugh in all of this..

And I for one will be laughing with him..

    • We saw the coldness in these people when Harry Reid put his foot on the scale in Nevada when it looked like Bernie was going to win.

      • eliihass says:

He knew he couldn’t trust Harry Reid..

He held out hope that deep down, the President was still the man of integrity, honor…but more importantly, real values that had nothing to do with opportunism…the man he remembered meeting and campaigning with in 2004…

    • Video was made a long time ago.

      • eliihass says:

Video was made on Tuesday SG..

        The whole thing rings hollow…

        Souls sold..

And the truth is it had nothing to do with you and me..

        Completely shameful..

      • yahtzeebutterfly says:

        On Tuesday?? !!!

        During the California primary???

Right after the AP tricks? (I don’t believe that super delegate endorsements should be revealed until the convention. Then Bernie Sander’s numbers would have been closer to Hillary’s.)

    • sunshine616 says:

I just watched this…..really this was cold and all levels of wrong….I don’t know what to think anymore.

  17. How can you endorse someone under FBI investigation?

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

      strange, isn’t it?

      • That’s the strangest ISH I have EVER seen. So what’s up with this? Please be open anyone/everyone to share your thoughts whether you agree or disagree. I want to hear what you think.

      • eliihass says:

So much conflict of interest…so much compromising the process…

So much for integrity and doing politics the new way..

Still dirty…still very much entangled, compromised and corrupt..

      • sunshine616 says:

I think that lady has something on PBO or Biden. Nothing crazy, but something she could spin just enough to try and delegitimize his presidency. just taking a look at the whole fracking business she was into and how she used her position to advance that agenda is puzzling. I also think it’s possible she did some underhanded shit while in her position and under his watch that would come back on him. I don’t trust one thing about her. all my opinions of course.

      • yahtzeebutterfly says:

        SG2 and Eliihaas,

“I want to hear what you think.” (SG2)

“So much for integrity and doing politics the new way..”(Eliihaas)

        Sigh.

        We are in a mess.

If it ends up being between Trump and Clinton, I will have to vote for Clinton, and I definitely don’t like having that leash thrown around my neck.

But, I absolutely refuse to vote for Trump who, I believe, will be a racist dictator. Already we have seen haters and racial bigots emboldened by Trump and given permission by him to spew their hate and to attack the BlackLivesMatter advocates. He has never shown any concern for helping unarmed Black victims who have been fatally shot or brutally beaten to receive justice. He has never condemned racial profiling and stereotyping. He has never addressed or condemned voter suppression efforts. I could go on and on.

I think he would rule by a “My way or the highway”-style of governing and use executive orders at every turn.

Too many people have been brutally beaten or killed or thrown off the land that they were sharecropping as they tried to register to vote or tried to help people to register. I think of Selma. I think of Fannie Lou Hamer who was arrested and beaten by the police because she tried to help people to register to vote. I think of Medgar Evers and so many others who were murdered. I think of the vicious beatings received by those at Selma from evil White Supremacists.

I will vote for Hillary because I think Trump has all the qualities of a White Supremacist and would be a disaster for our country.

President Obama has now endorsed Hillary Clinton. I want Obama to ALWAYS have political clout. I can give him that strength and political capital accepting his endorsement of Clinton and to vote for Clinton (even if I have to hold my nose as I do so.) I want President Obama to have a bright future and be a person that will be listened to in the years to come because he will speak from a position of the strength and respect.

        • Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Vote your convictions. I have no problem with it because I will also vote my conscience. I can never betray my conscience.

      • eliihass says:

“…I want President Obama to have a bright future and be a person that will be listened to in the years to come because he will speak from a position of the strength and respect…”

But how does going along with the very same corrupt politics you too railed against – including against the very same exact candidate…and rode into power on the hopes of young people who believed you…believed you were different…

How exactly does that build trust, or grow clout when people who once saw you as a different breed of politician…trusted you …now feel that you sold out …that you’ve betrayed them…I’m not even that young, but that’s exactly what I feel..

There’s a reason a lot of young people have become jaded about our politics…and this is a huge part of it…Their hopes were raised in 2008 …and they saw a new way..a new hope in a man who represented what they knew to be the better kind of politics that eschewed all of those corrupt isms that the Clintons, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Chuck Schumer, Charlie Rangel, and all of the mealy-mouthed self-serving Dem establishment wholly owned and controlled by the same special interests that own the republicans too..

        How is this inspiring…or hopeful..or forward-thinking..or honorable..

Even from where we seat, we can all feel the arm-twisting…

      • Ametia says:

yahtzee, THANK YOU for your HONESTY. This space is safe here for folks to share their thoughts and disagreements.

I, for one appreciate your CANDOR. It takes courage to express ones truths and belief,

We don’t go along to get along. That’s SHEEP mentality.

So THANK YOU! Vote your heart, your convictions, just like we all will or will not do.

      • yahtzeebutterfly says:

        Eliihaas,

Thanks for your sharing your important thoughts.

Personally, I feel that Obama has accomplished much in office including the Health Care and things listed here: https://3chicspolitico.com/president-obamas-accomplishments/

I don’t know what it has been like for him from day one when the night before Republicans vowed to vote “no” to any of his initiatives and programs. I still remember the reaction of the nasties out there when he said, “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon.” He has had to operate in an atmosphere where a member of the Black Causus was spat upon as the group entered the capitol building. People have been jumping the White House fence… one even succeeded in entering the White House with a knife.

He has pushed and pushed for passage of bills. I don’t think he cowered and didn’t try. He DID try. I am disappointed and I imagine the youth are disappointed. But, I am not disappointed in him. I am upset that racism has reared its ugly head in so many forms because he became our President.

I will always be proud of our POTUS and FLOTUS for their class, poise and accomplishments despite all the ugliness directed toward them and resistance to them by nasty racists and nasty politicians.

  18. LIZA

Sorry Potus, I will NEVER vote for Hillary. Not now. Not ever!

    • eliihass says:

      Shameful…

Someday, they will tell us what they had over the President..

      • Liza says:

Hmmm, hadn’t thought of that. I thought it was related to PBO wanting stay with the Democratic leadership in his post-presidency years. He could do better, IMO.

        • eliihass says:

Has a lot to do with so many things…much of which have much to do with you, me or the American people generally…sadly..

Besides, there’s a presidential library to be built and there’s a minimum of a $1billion to be raised…and the high dollar donors and fundraisers are the same …promises and favors have already been extracted..

          Politics is not noble…

And the worst part of this is that my FLOTUS who they never treated well…who never really had a relationship with this woman…will once again suck it up and take one for her husband…

And don’t nobody tell you that FLOTUS is going along for any other reason but to not to be seen contradicting her husband…

I already knew this day was coming…but it’s still deeply disappointing and sad…because it confirms too many things I knew already..

      • Ametia says:

        absolutely SHAMEFUL

    • Liza says:

I listened to the first 14 seconds. Well, what did I say? PBO is playing his role but he could not convince me in a thousand years that he believes in this woman.

Sad. It’s really sad, this refusal to allow the country to move forward and provide for its people when God knows there is enough for everyone. The oligarchs won’t quit, they just won’t until their last dying gasp. I may not live to see it, but I do believe the day will come.

      • I didn’t feel it either. He has to play his role.

      • eliihass says:

Told you guys a deal was cut and souls were sold..

FLOTUS told you…politics is not noble…

        It absolutely corrupts…

      • Liza says:

There’s that scene in “Chinatown” where John Huston’s character tells Jack Nicholson’s character (Jake) that “Ugly buildings, politicians, and whores all become respectable if they live long enough.” I disagree. Ugly is ugly, there is always someone out there who won’t forget. Just look at how many of our past leaders got knocked off their pedestals in recent years. And, the history of this nation is starting to open up, and the number of truth seekers seems to be growing.

I hope PBO is careful. The Clintons can be dangerous to your reputation.

    • sunshine616 says:

You know I was thinking about what I would do if Bernie dropped out? I’m so conflicted because I don’t want trump to win, but this can’t be a democracy. This isn’t about the people…it’s about one person. That’s fucked up!!

      • Ametia says:

Hi Sunshine. Glad you’re weighing in. It’s TOTALLY FUCKED UP.

      • sunshine616 says:

Hey girl, don’t know what to do. I have my son who was looking forward to voting for the first time asking me what to do. I don’t know what to tell him. I believe in my heart and soul that Hillary is wrong. I do not want to believe democracy is about a choice between two evils. I’m disappointed in our POTUS and hope one day we understand why he did what he did. He knows she’s not good for this country but his thought that this must happen in order to prevent a racist from becoming our president says a lot about the state of our country. This country, right now in its current state, deserves Trump if that’s what they vote for. I will not vote for white supremacy. And that is why I will not vote for Trump or Hillary.

    • Ametia says:

Well, the DEAL is DONE. we’ve heard PBO endorse this WITCH HILLARY.

You and Michelle can endorse and support away.

NOT GOING TO SUPPORT OR EVER VOTE FOR THIS WOMAN.

      NEVER

    • Ametia says:

LOL It’s on video. he’s got WH PS Josh Enrnest live with the JACKALS to answer questions. Wonder why PBO didn’t go LIVE with this endorsement. So he doesn’t have to answer questions after this phony endorsement.

Plus the Clintons can send the video around and SHOW ALL THE NEGROES, SEE OBAMA got my back.

      UUUUUUUUGHHHHH!

      • sunshine616 says:

Maybe the shillster went ahead and released the endorsement before POTUS wanted her to. Sounds like her.

Obamacare’s Success in Protecting our Finances
It wasn’t the primary goal, but it’s a big help nonetheless.
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    June 9, 2016 2:41 PM

One of the critiques we often heard both during and after passage of Obamacare was that health care reform shouldn’t have been the priority while the country was climbing out of the Great Recession. That misses the point that the stimulus package had just been passed and even Democrats were not likely to have backed doing more until it had been fully implemented.

But the critique also misses a point about Obamacare’s impact on our financial challenges. We know that before it passed, healthcare expenses were the leading cause of individual bankruptcies. In addition, the rise in costs were leading to healthcare expenses soaking up unsustainable portions of both state and federal budgets. That is why this statement from members of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York contains some truth.

…the primary purpose of this law [Obamacare} “is not to protect our health per se, but to protect our finances.”

I don’t necessarily agree that protecting our finances was the primary purpose of the law. Ensuring that people had access to health care supersedes all other goals. But it is important to acknowledge that the main reason that was becoming more and more difficult was financial.

The Feds included that statement as a part of their report demonstrating yet another way Obamacare is succeeding.

…they’ve found a big difference between indebtedness trends in states that embraced the Medicaid expansion versus the ones that did not

    .

The analysts reason that the average amount of debt sent to collections agencies would tend to rise in the event that people without insurance required costly medical attention. Yet, U.S. counties that had a particularly high uninsured rate prior to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act have seen the per capita collection balance fall if their state embraced the Medicaid expansion. If not, the collection balance continued to climb.

  23. Liza says:

    Party unity ain’t gonna happen.

How do you “unify” the old politics, the old political fossils, the bought and paid for representatives, corporate rule, protection of the wealthy class, biased and complicit mainstream media, hawkish foreign policy, and voter suppression WITH believing in social and economic justice, protection of the planet, concern for future generations, diplomacy before war, etc… They are diametrically opposed positions, there is no intersection.

Party unity, what a joke. Thanks, but I’ll pass.

    • Ametia says:

      RIGHT ON, Liza!

      “Party unity is a CROCK-O-SHIT.

The current Democratic Party is just as ‘DEAD’ as the Republican Party. Playing the same DIRTY GAMES, with the SAME OLD, DIRTY SELECT PEOPLE.

      • Bernie is a protester. He’s been at it when it was as dangerous for whites as it was for blacks. He left his blood in the streets for it.

      • Liza says:

Yeah, I know Bernie is tough and I suspect he feels enormous responsibility toward those who supported him. I just meant it probably isn’t a happy meeting with PBO.

From this point forward, there will be no honesty at all coming from the Democratic leadership. PBO didn’t cook this goose, but he is fully expected to serve it. It is all about PROMOTING Hillary and WINNING.

      • Ametia says:

Bernie can see the writing on the WALL..

He and PBO are going through the motion. At least he’s going on the record as being heard by POTUS.

What Binds Ryan’s Post-Truth Agenda to Trump’s Post-Policy Politics: Racism
by Nancy LeTourneau June 9, 2016 12:18 PM

Personally, I’ve never found the dichotomy of establishment vs insurgency to be a very helpful way of understanding what is going on in the Republican Party right now. Another way of looking at the tension is to frame it as a difference between being post-truth and post-policy. Prior to 2008, David Roberts described the post-truth nature of the GOP.

Republicans thus talk about “taxes” and “spending” and “regulation” in the abstract…They talk about cutting the deficit even as they slash taxes on the rich and launch unfunded wars. They talk about free markets even as they subsidize fossil fuels. They talk about American exceptionalism even as they protect fossil-fuel incumbents and fight research and infrastructure investments.

In short, Republicans have mastered post-truth politics.

While they worked to reduce taxes on the wealthy, get rid of government regulations and “drown government in the bathtub (all of which benefit the top 1%), they had to convince everyday Americans that their policies would actually help them.

After the Bush/Cheney era and the Great Recession, being post-truth didn’t work very well anymore. Most Americans saw very clearly what happened when the Republican agenda was enacted. Rather than re-think that agenda, they simply went post-policy and obstructed anything President Obama and the Democrats tried to do. In order to rally their ground troops in support, Republican fanned the flames of racism, fear and anger. As I’ve written before, Donald Trump is the epitome of post-policy nihilism.

    ………………………………………

So, if Donald Trump is post-policy and Paul Ryan is post-truth, where do their agendas come together. Jonathan Chait gave us the answer.

There is nothing inherently racist about Ryan’s policy agenda. The arguments for enormous, regressive tax cuts, deregulation of finance and carbon pollution, and large reductions in spending assistance for the poor may be unpersuasive, but they have no intellectual connection to racism. The trouble for Republicans is that building a real-world constituency for these policies does rely on racism. Conservatives stopped the momentum of the New Deal in the mid-1960s only when they associated it with support for the black underclass. Republican politics has grown increasingly racialized over time, a trend that has dramatically accelerated during the Obama era.

In other words, just as racism has been the fuel that ignites the post-policy positioning of Republicans over the last few years, it has been exploited for decades as a way to divide and conquer support for the progressive agenda.
