Said this again and again, the white supremacists are so, so afraid of our unassuming historic FLOTUS …even though she’s made it clear she’s not running for president ever, they and those who manipulate them and those even in her own party who nurse their own Oval Office ambitions, are determined to discredit and tear her down because they are so petrified of her unassuming power …that is why they are so targetedly focused on attacking and dehumanizing and slandering her…even as she’s leaving the White House next week…
They are so afraid of her power…

    Jodi Kantor has suddenly reappeared…

She’s ‘updated’ her book and is angling for sales…

    • Well I’ll be got damn

      • eliihass says:

Even worse than Jodi Kantor is some ridiculously shallow nobody named Kate Andersen Bower…

This hollow, grifting, know-nothing Ms Ann scamming her way into relevance by pulling stuff out of her b*tt and ripping off every random tidbit and parlaying it into ‘books’ about First Ladies…and presenting herself as some sort of ‘credible’, ‘well-sourced’ vessel on our historic First Lady…when she’s anything but ..

There are few people I despise more than this Kate Andersen Bower woman …I can understand crap gossip shows like Inside Edition (where Eric Trump’s wife used to work) using her, but there’s no reason for any credible, non-gossip news outfit using this brazenly transparent hack of a woman …

  3. eliihass says:

    Puhleeze…

Barbara and Jenna Bush need to stop using the Obama kids to self-promote…and to cast evil, destructive republicans in good light, while glossing over things as they really were…and are..

Hopefully, The Obamas dial back the overly generous praise of the Bushes, because we all know and remember well that as much as they were fairly and grudgingly ‘cooperative’ …especially against the backdrop of the Clintons who were even less supportive and helpful to the Obamas ..their fellow Democrats, the Bushes weren’t entirely nice…

I remember very well that for all the show that was put on…as the republicans are very good at doing just that…that for all the talk of ‘gracious’, in the end, when and where it really mattered…that Laura Bush would not allow the Obamas who were moving from Chicago, access to Blair House so that that they could situate their two minor kids and get them to their new school which had already started…and just for a few days before they were officially allowed to move in –

So in the end, the Obamas had to scramble and shellout for an expensive secure hotel stay at the Hay Adams instead …

Can’t accommodate a young family so that the kids could start school with the rest of their classmates, even though the State Department was clear that there were no guests – personal or government – scheduled for or staying at Blair House for that period…so much for all the ‘they were so gracious’ nonsense…

Steve Harvey says that his visit with the buffoon is him “…following President Obama’s urging to get involved..”. LOL…

    Right..

I saw this coming fam…I knew that so many of these shameless hustlers and grifters and cowardly opportunists were looking for how to exploit the President’s required gracious words and traditional courtesy to his white supremacist successor, to advance their own grift …and to begin to ingratiate themselves with and normalize the racist buffoon – and only so they can freely socialize with him once again as many of them used to even as he propagated the birther lies …

    • eliihass says:

      Seriously…

I’ve always, always stayed away from commenting on the kids, but I will make this one time statement:

I entirely understand and appreciate teenage angst and rebelling…and as much as I’ve always worried about the long-term effects of this extremely intrusive, disruptive and often negatively impacting journey on not just our stoic First Lady, but on the kids…it’s important that Malia really, really needs to be careful…I fear that she – and by extension her parents, will be seriously set-up and badly burned if this keeps up…

I’ve been especially alarmed by the quality of ‘friends’ she surrounds herself with…

What sort of ‘friend’ posts this sort of TMZ-acquirable, foul-language captioned shots of a private incident at the White House…with the first daughter featured…in the President’s official doctor’s office….I know there’s been an effort to let the kids live ‘normal’ lives…but still, caution and quality friends who understand, appreciate and respect the special circumstances of their position and access is not only pertinent, but essential…

And now as this historic family moves on to a civilian existence, every care must be taken…especially with Putin and his moles urging in every corner looking for anything to completely destroy this President…and especially under a White House to be inhabited right behind them, by a vile and vindictive white supremacist petty buffoon, surrounded by fellow vile white supremacists on a vendetta to settle scores…and who has for years has desperately sought to tear down this family…especially jealous that this historic couple is beloved and that their marriage and love and their family as a whole is celebrated and held up as a shining example…where he and his are not…

  7. eliihass says:

Anyone who falls for the lies that mediocre, unimpressive, small-minded, agenda-driven racists like Mike Pompey…folks we would typically have not only shunned, but laughed off the stage…are now somehow ‘honorable’ and ‘smart’ and ‘competent’…and only because they aren’t out and out crazy white supremacists in the mould of Steve Bannon and General Flynn…

Anyone who’s willing to fall for or turn a blind eye to this brazen charade under the guise of ‘peaceful transition of power’ or ‘uniting the country’ around the very same buffoon who for years brazenly did his darnedest to not only delegitimize the historic President who won by historic popular and electoral vote margins…but also endlessly planted and continues to plant slanderous and damaging falsehoods about the historic First Couple in the Enquirer…A man who even to this minute unapologetically praises and is unwilling to denounce Putin, but will attack in the prettiest way, everyone else, including babies who dare gurgle even the slightest disapproval of his crass ignorance…

Anyone who falls for this obvious okey-doke, deserves to be scammed…

And while we’re at it, I’m going to need Democrats to seriously grow several pairs and more…stop the heck with the mealy-mouthing…the cowardice…the scaredy cat act…the glossing over…the brazen normalization of the madness that’s descended upon our democracy, democratic institutions and our country …

You can’t in one breath tell us that this man is unfit…and in the next breath, give him an air of legitimacy and relevance by suggesting he’s some ‘genius’ …or some sort of maverick not to be ‘underestimated’…or try to talk up and gloss over his abject ignorance and wanton disregard of our country’s norms, as somehow ok…and his right and mandate …even though he did not even win with a majority …and his is a historic low in every regard…and the republican stranglehold in both houses is merely as a result of gerrymandering nothing more…

    Come on folks, stop it..

The quickest way to destroy a megalomaniac narcissist is to deny him relevance, legitimacy, attention, and more importantly, praise of any kind…not even of the feint sort…

    Kill the oxygen..

    Enough…

The buffoon recently naming as one of his White House senior aides, Dina Habib Powell …GOP acolyte, former Kay Hutchinson-Bailey aide turned George Bush Staffer, turned Goldman Sachs executive…and his media cronies rushing to tell you that this is proof positive that the buffoon is ‘malleable’ and not such a racist right-wing monster after all…that Dina Powell is ‘an Egyptian immigrant’ as if the vile right-wing nut D’nesh Souza isn’t an immigrant too…They insist that Dina Powell is ‘beloved’ by ‘Democrats and Republicans’ alike… that she’s ‘friendly with Valerie Jarrett’ and participated in the Obama White House ‘State of Women’ event last year…that she’s approved of by Condoleeza Rice who she worked under at the Bush State Department …and that Warren Buffett etc. like her …as if…They somehow neglect to mention among other things, that her husband Richard Powell is partner with Doug Band …former Clinton chief of staff, Clinton Foundation czar and corrupt, greedy virulent anti-Obama Clinton acolyte who I’ve shared about…Dina Powell’s husband is partner with Doug Band at the very same Teneo holdings that was a focus of the campaign stories of Clinton financial payouts…Teneo is the PR firm that peddles influence and connects politicians with lucrative speaking gigs and spots on international boards mostly courtesy of wealthy despots and in exchange for validation…

Besides the fact that any person who chooses to not only align themselves with the buffoon, but actually voluntarily signs on to go work for him isn’t worth sh*t….

Nor are we swayed by Condoleeza Rice or Kay Hutchinson Bailey and their ilk of greedy, craven, soulless right-wing active participants for anyone not fooled by the efforts to somehow portray them as ‘honorable’ and ‘moderate’ ‘voices of reason’…

Many of these folks all eat and drink from the same pot…Do not let them even for a second confuse you…

In the end it’s not about country…it’s about their pockets…power, staying relevant…and they’lol send this country down the river in a heartbeat – as long as they get to keep and amass even more for themselves personally and professionally..

And while we’re at it, I’ve said this before…next time Democrats get power, hopefully, they now know how to effectively wield it…and more importantly what to do with it…And hopefully, they won’t be handing over the most meaty and sensitive and pertinent positions like FBI director, to a member of the opposition party…

But sadly, I’m not holding my breath…

Congressional GOP Complete First Step of Obamacare Repeal
    by LEIGH ANN CALDWELL

The House passed a bill Friday that starts the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, officially completing the first step of the two-step process of repealing the health care legislation.

The measure passed 227 to 198 with no Democrats supporting it and nine GOP members voting against it. Leadership was able to gain the support of enough Republicans to pass the bill, despite concerns among members worried there was no plan to replace Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

“By taking this first step toward repealing Obamacare, we are closer to giving Americans relief from the problems this law has caused,” Ryan said in a statement after the vote. “This resolution gives us the tools we need for a step-by-step approach to fix these problems and put Americans back in control of their health care.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Tuesday, for the first time, that parts of the bill would be replaced “concurrently.” And then on Thursday during a CNN town hall, Ryan said, “So, without getting into all of the legislative mumbo jumbo, we want to do this at the same time and in some cases in the same bill.”

The House’s vote Friday completes the first step for repeal. The bill now directs four committees – two in the House and two in the Senate – to write the legislation to repeal the ACA. The self-imposed deadline is January 27 but leadership aides admit that is an unreasonable date and repeal legislation could take weeks.

While Ryan now insists that repeal and parts of replace will be done at the same time, the reality is complicated.

Because the Republicans are using a budget gimmick known as reconciliation, a process that enables legislation to pass the Senate by a simple majority, the only things that can be addressed in the legislation are tax and spend components.

Now that the timeline has sped up, Republicans are going to have to determine what can be repealed and what can be replaced under reconciliation’s strict guidelines.

Everything else will likely need the support of 60 votes in the Senate.

U.S. REP. MCSALLY STATEMENT ON ACA RECONCILIATION VOTE
      January 13, 2017 Press Release

“Southern Arizonans deserve access to affordable, quality health care that provides them with choice and meets their needs. Obamacare, which was flawed from the beginning, is collapsing under its own weight – and nowhere have families and individuals been hit harder than Arizona, where premiums are rising faster than anywhere in the country. Today’s vote is the first step to repealing the failing Affordable Care Act and replacing it with legislation that brings down costs, increases competition, and ensures Americans have access to quality health care. Like many I’ve spoken to in Southern Arizona, I have concerns about providing for the transition to a better health care system, and throughout this week, I have engaged with House leadership and my colleagues to voice and address those concerns. As we move forward, my focus will be on providing continuity and certainty for my constituents to ensure they have access to the health care they need during this transition.”

  11. Dems ‘outraged’ with Comey after House briefing

    dems-outraged-with-comey-after-house-briefing

A number of House Democrats left Friday’s confidential briefing on Russian hacking fuming over the actions of FBI Director James Comey and convinced he’s unfit to lead the agency.

“I was nonjudgmental until the last 15 minutes. I no longer have that confidence in him,” Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, said as he left the meeting in the Capitol.

“Some of the things that were revealed in this classified briefing – my confidence has been shook.”

Rep. Elijah Cummings (Md.), senior Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, delivered a similar condemnation.

“I’m extremely concerned – extremely,” he said.

“I’ll just – I’m very angry,” echoed Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.).

The intelligence community believes Russia hacked Democratic groups in an effort to help elect President-elect Donald Trump, claims Trump had publicly cast doubt on before this week.

Comey has been under fire since several weeks before the Nov. 8 elections, when he announced a new leg in an FBI investigation into the use of a private email server by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton – a probe that, as with the first round, resulted in no criminal charges. In response, many Democrats have accused Comey of altering the course of the presidential race in favor of Trump.

Friday’s briefing, featuring Comey and the heads of the other top intelligence agencies, was classified, restricting the freedom of lawmakers to reveal details.

The Justice Department’s inspector general on Thursday announced a new investigation into the agency’s actions leading up to the election, a probe that will focus on Comey’s public statements as well as FBI leaks and other relevant correspondences.

Republicans have largely defended Comey, and many left Friday’s briefing with their minds unchanged.

“The FBI director is a good man who was placed in a very difficult position,” said Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.). “His boss [U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch] made life very difficult for him in the last year when she met with Bill Clinton on the tarmac.”

Democrats have a markedly different take.

“I want to [have faith in Comey],” said a visibly annoyed Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.). “I have concerns. Stay tuned.”

Yet there’s also a powerful sense among the Democrats that, while their faith in Comey has plummeted, they’d rather have him atop the FBI than roll the dice to see who Trump would tap as a replacement.

“Do I have confidence in him? Not really. But I think he’s probably going to be better than the guy they’d put in,” said one Democrat, who spoke only anonymously to discuss a sensitive topic. “It’s like a rock and a hard place, but I think that’s pretty much where a lot of people are.”

Walz, for one, is not in that place.

“I’m disappointed, outraged – many of us are right now,” Walz said. “I’ll wait to pass full judgment, but the exchange that just happened in the final 15 minutes gives me no reason to have confidence.”

Shortly after the meeting, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) – a sharp critic of Comey’s actions leading up to the elections – spoke broadly about the FBI without weighing in on Comey specifically. She suggested she’s waiting for the results of the DOJ’s IG report to pass a judgement on the FBI director.

“No, I haven’t lost confidence in the agency,” she told reporters in the Capitol.

“My concern about the FBI is the timing and their not signing [the broader intelligence document on Russian hacking]. And that was the judgment of Director Comey, unless it goes deeper, and that’s what the investigation will find out,” she added. “Let’s find out how they thought this was a good idea to make the judgments they did, and understanding – weighing full well – that the Russians were actively engaged in disrupting our election.”

The Stupid War on Cory Booker
    by Martin Longman
    January 13, 2017 2:46 PM

Did Cory Booker and a bunch of other Democratic senators just vote against importing prescription drugs from Canada? No. No, they didn’t. Here is what they voted against:

    …………………………………

What they voted against was the above amendment to the Budget reconciliation bill. The Budget reconciliation bill is not a normal bill because it never becomes law. It never goes to the president for signature or veto. What it does is set out the framework for spending money that the committee chairs must work with when legislating and appropriating.

The Klobuchar/Sanders amendment would have given Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming, the chairman of the Budget Committee, the discretion to pass a bill on the importation of prescription drugs or other means of lowering the price for American consumers, even if that required him to adjust how monies were allocated to his subcommittees.

For starters, Sen. Enzi voted against giving himself this discretion, so he clearly had no intention of taking advantage of it. In truth, though, this amendment was just one of several amendments the Democrats introduced to cause political pain to the Republicans. None of them would have actually become law, but all of them could be used to attack anyone who voted against them.

To see how this was supposed to work, all you have to do is look at an article that was produced by the Center for American Progress yesterday. They highlighted “6 essential health benefits” the GOP had voted to take away during their Wednesday night/Thursday morning vote-a-rama. None of those health benefits included the Klobuchar/Sanders amendment on prescription drugs, but they were all poison pill/message amendments intended to embarrass and wound any senators who voted against them. One was on protecting people with pre-existing conditions, another was on letting young adults stay on their parents’ health plan until they’re twenty six, and another was on protecting children on Medicaid or CHIP. None of the amendments meant a damn thing. None of them had the least potential to change the law of the land. But they gave the Democrats the opportunity to blast the (mostly) Republicans who voted against them. The Center of American Progress article was the main instrument for that bludgeoning.

    • Liza says:

Certainly the two sides are going to play these games that the public are generally not privy to. It would seem that the Big Pharma beneficiaries had every reason to think this would fly under the radar.

But anything with Bernie’s name on it is bound to hit social media, so these legislators need to learn that. And I would further argue that there are times to march in lockstep and times not to. This is one of those times when Democrats need to march in lockstep and assure the American people they will fight for healthcare. Every signal matters.

    • Liza says:

If we say this means nothing then we fail to ask these senators the most important question. Did you vote this way because you are a beneficiary of Big Pharma political contributions? The truthful answer to that question may be predictive of what is to come.

I’d like to believe that ALL Democratic legislators are in the fight 100 percent to save healthcare for tens of millions of people. Maybe some are not, and that is really bad for us. Really bad.

Commanding general of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post
By Peter Hermann and Aaron C. Davis
      January 13 at 11:08 AM

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 unarmed troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

Schwartz said that he has been swamped with inauguration duties and packing up four decades’ worth of papers and accumulated items, and has not yet been able to inform District officials, including the mayor and the chair of the D.C. Council. Unlike in states, where the governor appoints the National Guard commander, in the District that duty falls to the president.

Why Was Michel Flynn Talking to the Russian Ambassador?
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    January 13, 2017 9:40 AM

David Ignatius has an interesting tidbit in his column about the Trump/Russian connections.

According to a senior U.S. government official, [Retired Lt. Gen. Michael] Flynn phoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak several times on Dec. 29, the day the Obama administration announced the expulsion of 35 Russian officials as well as other measures in retaliation for the hacking. What did Flynn say, and did it undercut the U.S. sanctions? The Logan Act (though never enforced) bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about “disputes” with the United States. Was its spirit violated? The Trump campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

What we have is a president-elect’s national security advisor talking on the phone to the Russian Ambassador several times on the day the current president announced retaliation against Russia for hacking and releasing information about the president-elect’s opponent during the election.

We also know that Flynn has strong ties to Russia via his regular appearances on Russia Today (suggesting that it’s just like CNN). In the dossier released by BuzzFeed, Flynn is listed as one of four members of the Trump campaign who were in contact with Russia during the election (in addition to Paul Manafort, Carter Page and Michael Cohen).

Of course we don’t know the content of those conversations. But remember the days when the “appearance of corruption” was enough to send the entire media into fits about the Clinton Foundation? Perhaps these phone calls will turn out to be as easily dismissed as those allegations were after a thorough investigation. Let’s find out!

There are a couple of other things that can be takeaways from this little tidbit. First of all, “a senior U.S. government official” leaked this information to Ignatius. That is important to keep in mind. It indicates that there are people within the government who want to keep this story alive.

Every day that goes by kind of amazes me that Hillary Clinton is MIA.

Bernie Sanders is out there every day, organizing folks, spreading the word, trying to get the truth out there.

I realize that the House of Clinton got hit by a Cat-5 hurricane, but what was all that about fighting for the people? She could still do that.

    Just saying…

Yeah, these billionaires need another $7 million in tax cuts. Good Lord, they’ve got that much sitting on the coffee table.

If the ACA is repealed, the wealthiest 400 families would receive a tax cut worth an average of $7 million each. https://t.co/D5qeYQdNsC— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 13, 2017

Donald Trump, Not the CIA, Is the Bad Guy Here
    by Martin Longman
    January 12, 2017 3:23 PM

Steve M. makes a good point about Glenn Greenwald’s logic.

    The intelligence agencies? Greenwald writes,

FOR MONTHS, the CIA, with unprecedented clarity, overtly threw its weight behind Hillary Clinton’s candidacy and sought to defeat Donald Trump.

And that’s a sign that the Deep State is an unbridled force of pure evil? If we accept Greenwald’s premise, it means that the Deep State wasn’t even powerful enough to throw the election to the favorite.

Personally, I don’t agree that there was a lot of clarity about who the CIA preferred in the presidential race, although I readily admit that DCI Brennan is close to the president and probably had a strong preference for Clinton. But the disposition of the CIA as a whole isn’t really my concern here.

I think Steve makes an obvious observation when he notes that Trump’s victory showed that the “Deep State” isn’t as all-powerful as Greenwald would like us all to believe. I mean, assuming the Deep State had a preference for Clinton and tried to do anything at all, they obviously failed.

It’s worth considering the idea that they they really didn’t do anything to help Clinton, which is a statement all by itself. Neutrality is what we expect, and James Comey’s actions at the FBI that appeared to stall Clinton’s momentum at a critical time have outraged Democrats for exactly the reason that it lacked neutrality or balance. But electoral indifference and inaction by the intelligence arm of a state (whether an ostensibly representative state or not) isn’t something that’s common or that should be taken for granted.

If the CIA has some kind of cultural preference, that’s one thing. If they ran operations to help one candidate and hurt another, that’s supposed to be out of bounds. It seems to me that there’s more evidence of pro-Trump sentiment at the FBI (with it’s pro-law enforcement anti-Black Lives Matter culture) than there is of any kind of monolithic pro-Clinton support at the CIA. And the FBI actually, visibly, crippled Clinton’s campaign.

How Much Do For-Profit Colleges Rely on Federal Funds?
    by Robert Kelchen
    January 12, 2017 3:45 PM

The outgoing Obama administration placed for-profit colleges under a great deal of scrutiny. This includes gainful employment regulations that will require graduates of vocationally-oriented programs to meet debt-to-earnings requirements and borrower defense to repayment rules (which will likely be quickly abandoned by the Trump administration) designed to help students who feel they were defrauded by their college.

But special federal scrutiny of the for-profit sector has been around for decades, with one rule shaping the behavior of many colleges. This post explores the extent to which for-profit colleges rely on federal funds. It turns out that many rely heavily on these funds, although it’s not always clear what the implications are for the public.

In the 1992 Higher Education Act reauthorization, Congress included a provision that only applied to for-profit colleges, limiting the percentage of total revenue that for-profits could receive from federal grant, loan, and work-study programs to 85%. (This notably excludes veterans’ benefits, which are a large source of revenue for some colleges.) This percentage was increased to 90% in the 1998 reauthorization, which led to the rule being commonly referred to as “90/10.”

For-profit colleges that exceed 90% of their revenue from federal financial aid in two consecutive years can lose access to federal aid for the following two years. Some Democrats have tried to move back to the 85/15 rule or include veterans’ benefits in the federal financial aid portion of revenue, but these efforts will likely be unsuccessful given the support Republicans have received from for-profit colleges. Notably, some for-profits get a sizable portion of their revenue from veterans’ benefits.

    Trump’s Lies Tell the Story
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    January 12, 2017 4:15 PM

There are times when you can learn something from what a person like Trump choses to lie about. Yesterday morning he tweeted this:

Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!

    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017

Then later at his press conference, the president elect said this:

So I tweeted out that I have no dealings with Russia. I have no deals that could happen in Russia, because we’ve stayed away. And I have no loans with Russia.

As a real estate developer, I have very, very little debt. I have assets that are — and now people have found out how big the company is, I have very little debt — I have very low debt. But I have no loans with Russia at all.

And I thought that was important to put out. I certified that. So I have no deals, I have no loans and I have no dealings. We could make deals in Russia very easily if we wanted to, I just don’t want to because I think that would be a conflict. So I have no loans, no dealings, and no current pending deals.

Did he repeat it enough to make you believe him? Or, like me, do you remember when the Washington Post reported on what Donald Trump, Jr. said back in 2008 at a real estate conference?

“Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets.” Donald Trump Jr. added, “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

Beyond that, Michael Kranish does a good job of summarizing what we actually know about Trump’s business dealings with Russia – which isn’t much since he won’t release his taxes.

So why would Trump repeat – over and over again – such an obvious lie? The truth is that he is the most banal kind of liar. Remember back during the Republican primaries when he went from saying that Vladimir Putin was his BFF to saying that he’d never met him? Trump says whatever he needs to say, repetitively, to get out of a jam.

In this case, the president-elect told a blatant lie to try to obfuscate the information contained in the dossier suggesting that his campaign coordinated their efforts with the Russians. That might not pass as proof for all that is written in those reports, but it’s a pretty good indicator that there is some truth in them.
