This hurts my soul. The cruel barbarism of white supremacy. Heartless savages dragging a woman from her daughters. I hate them intensely. Ice Agents are ripping families apart, while people are watching and they don’t give a fuck. It’s no different than when slave masters sold off families, ripping children from their mother’s arms to sell for profit. We are living the most hellish nightmare under Trump. Please God, let it end soon.

    The House Intelligence Committee is shot to hell. All credibility is gone. They are worthless & should never be trusted ever again. How can they be? They have openly denied the findings of 17 intelligence agencies. They’re putting national security at risk. Dismantle the committee.

    We just finished recording this week’s episode of The Josh Marshall Podcast. We had a special guest, Joan Walsh. We talked about the Stormy Daniels’ story among other topics, including the 2016 election. But I wanted to flag one point we discussed in this episode that I’ve learned over recent days. What Daniels told 60 Minutes is more damaging than people may realize.

    In many ways, having sex with a porn star is on-brand for Donald Trump. He spent decades playing up a reputation as a billionaire playboy. These stories seem to have stirred discord in Trump’s marriage. They’re hard to square with his current role as the darling of conservative evangelicals. But they play to the tough guy, dominant and hyper-masculine image he likes to portray. He’s boasted for years about his purported sexual prowess and the Access Hollywood tape and the subsequent string of accusations of various kinds of sexual misconduct confirmed his role as a sexual predator.

    But Daniels apparently says something different. I’m told that in her 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper Daniels suggests that Trump, how to say this, likes it when women aren’t nice to him, treat him in perhaps denigrating ways.

    I think that would be very much off brand for Trump. It also puts in sharper relief why he and his lawyer seem to be fighting so hard to keep Daniels’ story under wraps. It also deepens my curiosity about whether CBS will have the stomach to air that part of the story.

    Five Whitney Young Magnet High School students have scored a perfect 36 on the ACT this year, a triumph the selective Chicago high school is touting as a personal best.

    Chicago Public Schools officials don’t even administer the ACT anymore, so juniors Jack Fetsch, Jake Gerenraich, Sophie Ljung, Charlie Nevins and Dorothy Tarasul volunteered to sit for the test one weekend last month.

    Among the class of 2017, just 2,700 students in the entire country managed a composite 36 score — that’s less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the 2 million students who took ACT last year, according to the testing company. In Illinois, just 248 of 134,901 students who graduated in 2017 scored 36 points on the four math, English, reading and science components.

    That means they correctly answered at least 211 of 215 questions on the timed exam; testing expert Matthew Pietrafetta calls that a remarkable feat.

    “To be at perfect or near-perfect levels in all these academic domains indicates a student who has achieved mastery of essential, rigorous, college-readiness curriculum,” said Pietrafetta, who runs Academic Approach, a Chicago-based tutoring company that has done test prep for a number of CPS schools.

    Whitney Young, 211 S. Laflin St., attracts many of the city’s brightest students (among them former First Lady Michelle Obama) who vie to get the district’s oldest selective-enrollment school with near-perfect grades and attendance in elementary school, plus top scores on an admissions exam.

    Its average ACT average score was 28 for the class of 2017, third-highest in the city and far above the district’s average of 19.

        You weren’t the only baby that did that. My daughter did the same thing—had us carrying her around and suddenly when she was 14 months old decided she could get to where she wanted to go on her own. She scammed us all. I’ll always remember the first full sentence she ever made had to do with money. LOL here.

    Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, whose life’s work is to take funds out of public education and give it to private religious charter schools, struggled to explain her philosophy on 60 Minutes last night. It was a funny journey into the exciting new mode of conservative thinking that everyone’s talking about. When the desire to do something isn’t backed by a coherent ideology (or one you dare to explain), describing it becomes a deer-in-headlights nightmare of fixed smiles and random thoughts springing into life and evaporating almost before an interviewer can pop them with simple, unchallenging questions.

    More human remains found in backyard of missing man, detectives say

    Authorities dug up more human remains in the backyard of a home where they found an upper arm bone on Friday, a spokesman with the Lake County, Florida sheriff’s office said Saturday. The parts of human skeleton were found under a lump of concrete on an outdoor fire pit at the residence of Michael Shaver, who has been missing for three years.

    Detectives also found some articles of clothing, Lt. John Herrell said. The remains were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office for identification and to determine the manner and cause of death, Herrell said.

    Officials went to check on Shaver in his home in unincorporated Lake County south of Clermont on Feb. 16.

    His wife, 35-year-old Laurie Shaver, said she had not heard from her husband since 2015 and allowed investigators to search the home. They noticed what seemed like a fresh layer of concrete had been dumped near the pit, and asked Laurie Shaver for permission to bring a cadaver dog.

    Some Twitter Truth about the so-called ‘ conservative’ columnists at the NYT:

    -David Roberts Verified account

    1. All right, this controversy over conservative columnists in @nytopinion is bugging me. Everyone is dancing around the central point! (The same central point everyone dances around in *numerous* contemporary controversies.) So I’ma lay it out.
    2. Here’s the main point: the contemporary right-wing in the US has become, in Lionel Trilling’s immortal words, a bundle of “irritable mental gestures which seek to resemble ideas.” It’s just a tangle of resentments & bigotries, driven by the erosion of white privilege.
    3. There’s always been that element, but for decades it was overlain by a class of DC conservatives who code switched, spoke the Very Serious language of ideas & policies. This is the conservatism that white moderate libs still imagine: an actual ideology, with arguments.
    4. Trump’s rise has shown that purported principles of conservative ideology meant virtually NOTHING to the conservative masses. Trump abandoned the Very Serious script & the RW base didn’t care, at all. He voiced their anger & resentments. That’s all the RW base is any more.
    5. Trump has swerved this way and that on immigration, taxes, healthcare, guns … and the base doesn’t care. They follow him this way, they follow him that way. It is the resentment, the aggrieved sense of persecution, that they respond to. That’s what US conservatism IS now.
    6. So @nytopinion faces a dilemma. It claims to want to expose its readers to the perspectives of the conservative masses. It claims to want to connect liberals to the heartland. But there’s a problem.
    7. If NYT printed the *actual, real-life* sentiments of today’s conservative masses, it would print a bunch of paranoid, Fox-generated fairy tales and belligerent expressions of xenophobia, misogyny, racism, and proud, anti-intellectual ignorance.
    8. The people who work at NYT & the vast majority of its readers would find those sentiments … what’s the word? oh, yes … deplorable. They would recoil. The truth of what’s going on on the right today is worse than virtually anyone in the political mainstream acknowledges.
    9. The NYT’s commitment to “intellectual diversity” doesn’t go THAT far — not far enough to expose its readers to that reality. It is too invested in America’s own Noble Savage myth, the idea that conservative Heartland Americans are more authentic & in touch w/ simple virtues.
    10. So NYT needs “a voice from the right,” but not a voice from the ACTUAL right (which is oriented around white resentment, not any discernible governing philosophy). They need a voice from the Conservatism of the Mind, the noble, principles-base conservatism they imagine.
    11. That’s what conservative columnists on mainstream opinion pages have been for years now: voices who will present conservatism as a coherent intellectual argument, what liberals desperately want it to be.
    12. It is no coincidence that these guys – Gerson, Douthat, Brooks, Stephens – have little voice or influence inside actual conservatism, or that they’re all anti-Trump (unlike 95+% of Republicans). They are anomalies, idiosyncrasies, not representative of anything broader.
    13. And notice, even those invested in pretending that contemporary conservatism is a governing philosophy have thrown up their hands lately. Claim something for conservatism today & Trump could disavow it in a tweet tomorrow. It’s become impossible to even maintain the pretense.
    14. And so what do the mainstream “voices of conservatism” have left? Wan, half-ass whataboutism. “Sure Trump & the GOP are terrible but whatabout that time that one person on the left said that one bad thing?”
    15. That explains why everyone on the right has suddenly fixated on Farrakhan. It explains why every conservative columnist is writing (again and again) about campus speech intolerance. It’s not much, but it’s *all they have left*. There’s nowhere left to go, intellectually.
    16. Stephens et al are just playing their role in a very old parlor game, where Serious Conservatives tell liberals they are bad and wrong (that’s what “intellectual diversity” means to elite center-lefties) and liberals proceed to engage in self-loathing hand-wringing about it.
    17. It’s got very little to do with real intellectual diversity (has Stephens expressed a single surprising opinion?) and it’s got NOTHING to do with exposing NYT readers to the real state of thinking on the right. It’s a Village game, by and for Villagers.
    18. In the name of “exposing readers to diverse viewpoints,” NYT is, in practice, obscuring the true nature of today’s right. Virtually the entire political elite & most NYT readers are in denial about what the right has become & that denial is increasingly dangerous.
    19. Forget the self-regarding onanism of Stephens types. If NYT really wants to expose its readers to the right, it should give Dinesh D’Souza, Dana Loesch, or Ben Shapiro a column. Let readers see, up close & personal, the crude tribalism & resentment that animate the RW base.
    20. In conclusion, yes, everyone in mainstream politics, everyone who lives outside the Fox/Breitbart bubble, NEEDS exposure to the actually existing US conservative movement. @NYTopinion isn’t helping.
