Tuesday Open Thread

I’ve been spending a greast deal of time in my car lately, traveling for my job. Ever so often I tune in to NPR. I caught this “Fresh Air” segment last week on Comedian Roy Wood Jr.

  5. It seems some black people thought PBO could single handedly and magically change laws on his own when it came to Ferguson. I can’t with this mess. Folks tried to pound it in their head about voting but couldn’t reach them. If the enemy see that you are not concerned about voting elected officials that share your agenda then it’s business as usual.

OMG! I remember watching The Thornbirds. I also remember when Richard Chamberlain was Dr. Kildare. My older sisters were in love with him, they both had those “intern” shirts.

      That was so long ago.

      • Ametia says:

My sisters and I used to watch Dr. Kildarie too, drooling all over the couch. LOL

I own the DVD of “The Thornbirds” This movie and Captains & the Kings were must-watch tv in the 70s & 80s

      • Liza says:

Thanks for this, Ametia, I haven’t seen Captains and the Kings.

Even worse is we knew before he said a damned thing.

Daughter is good thanks for asking. She’s looking forward to going to Winnipeg for an Irish Dance competition Memorial Day weekend.. Why Irish? I asked too. Because all her girls are doing it. I attended an ID festival in St. Paul St. Patties weekend. Theirs was the most diverse crew. Canada should be…interesting. Have a good day all.

Everytime these racist, murdering cops aren’t charged with murder, the family has to relive the murder of their loved ones ALL OVER AGAIN.

      CRIMINAL

    • Ametia says:

I.CANNOT. Don’t let these mofos divide & conquer.

All that leg work those young folks di and continue to do will ALWAYS outshine the cowards.

THEY TALK, BUT DON’T WALK IT.

      BLAME & ATTEMP TO SHAME.

The reality is these mofos have NO GAME

The next generation of youth will have their trials and errors, but we must support their efforts.

You may wish to look at the fabulous photos in this article:

“Documenting the Dynamic Black Community of 1940s Seattle”
    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/lens/documenting-the-dynamic-black-community-of-1940s-seattle.html

“Seattle on the Spot: The Photographs of Al Smith,” [is]an exhibition at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle, a city that played only a modest role in American jazz history. Mr. Smith’s photos tell a compelling story, not just about the city’s jazz scene but also about the complexity of life in an African-American community cloistered within a largely white, and for many decades, de facto segregated city. Organized by Howard Giske, the museum’s curator of photography and a friend of Mr. Smith’s, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalog with essays by Mr. Giske and the historians Jacqueline E. A. Lawson and Quin’Nita Cobbins; the jazz critic Paul de Barros; and the photographer’s son, Al Smith Jr., known as Butch.

    Excerpt:

Rhode Island lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow DACA recipients to get drivers licenses and work permits, even if their federal status expires…

“The intention of the policy is to create a bridge until Congress is able to craft a policy that would secure a DACA recipient and enable those who have not tapped into the program to do so. If the federal courts or Congress is able to craft a policy, then this would essentially phase out,” said Maldonado.

The bill would extend state protection only to undocumented residents who have already received DACA status. Maldanado said that’s more than 1,000 people in the state.

    From Wikipedia:
“Harold Lloyd Nicholas, born on March 27, 1921, was one half of the world-famous tap dancing pair the Nicholas Brothers. His older brother was Fayard Nicholas. They danced in vaudeville, on Broadway, in nightclubs and on television, combining elements of ballet, jazz, and acrobatics with tap in their routines to produce displays of dazzling virtuosity, which they called ‘classical tap.’ But it was their dancing in movie musicals that brought them the most acclaim and made them internationally famous.”

The Trump administration is adding a citizenship question to the census. Here’s why that’s bad for Democrats.

The change carries potentially major political ramifications — most notably for Republicans’ ability to gerrymander Democrats into the minority for years to come.
