That’s how a VA psychologist described mental health care for veterans after the Trump administration hollowed out the system meant to serve them.
That same psychologist described one-on-one sessions for the veterans who need them most being pushed online, with some cut to as little as 16 minutes. In one case, individual therapy was replaced by group sessions packed with as many as 35 veterans at once.
Hundreds of mental health staffers have left the VA under this administration and haven’t been replaced. So when a veteran needs more time, more care, more attention, it simply isn’t there. The VA now has around 500 fewer psychologists and psychiatrists than it did a year ago, and the numbers keep falling.
This is the country’s largest health care system, serving 9 million veterans.
They face mental health challenges at higher rates than the rest of us. They die by suicide at roughly twice the rate.
When their care is neglected, it costs lives.
Secretary Collins was handed a fundamental responsibility, and veterans are paying the price for his failure to meet it. We must not stay silent while those who served scream out for someone to listen.

In 1868, Georgia’s legislature looked at its 33 duly elected Black members and voted to EXPEL them for being Black.
Reconstruction had put Black men in office for the first time. Georgia’s white legislators responded by simply ejecting their Black colleagues, ruling that the right to vote did not include the right to HOLD office.
One of the expelled, Rev. Henry McNeal Turner, rose first and delivered one of the great speeches in American history, declaring — as the record preserves, “I am here to demand my rights, and to hurl thunderbolts” at the men who dared question his manhood.
Then the 33 were removed from their seats anyway.
Several would be beaten, jailed, or killed in the terror that followed. Congress had to force Georgia to reseat them as the price of readmission to the Union.

A big difference between MI and WI: Stevens started getting momentum ~3 weeks before the election. At ~2 weeks, people started spamming us with bad polls, after a high-quality poll showed a tied race. Libs online got depressed & accepted the “deal as sealed.” Momentum was lost. This didn’t happen in WI.
In WI, Crowley, like Stevens, got late momentum, but there was less online dampening.
Another big difference, of course: active misinfo campaigns were directed at the Michigan race.
Lots of lessons to learn here, but the big one for online Libs is: do not accept a “done deal” because a poll–or even a slew of polls–shows a “done deal.” Doom is the enemy.

One of the reasons why I believe that Crowley will win in November when Barnes did not is because he engaged Black Milwaukee when Barnes would not.
Crowley is the nominee in part because of Black Milwaukee, and because he drew Hong to a draw in Dane County (Madison).
