Important: the USPS rule that SCOTUS blocked tonight was Trump’s big plan to control and restrict mail voting.But a separate policy remains in place: USPS is no longer postmarking mail as soon it gets it, which is hugely important for deadlines.

Yesterday, we lost a cherished member of our family.
We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love. We also had trouble keeping up with her, for Sunny was a force of nature. Athletic and full of boundless energy, she leapt over the hedges on the South Lawn like they weren’t even there, chasing squirrels, birds and anything else that moved. And whereas the way to Bo’s heart usually involved a treat, Sunny was more interested in having us run around with her, roll on the floor with her, or have her belly rubbed for as long as we were willing.
She loved the girls, even if they were pestering her when she was napping. She loved our team, and would often follow them around, helping them on the job. She was fiercely protective of Bo, who she rightly sensed wasn’t always as alert and attentive as she was. She had her eccentricities: other than Bo, she preferred people to dogs; she was a loud and sloppy drinker; and despite being a Portuguese Water Dog, she hated getting wet.
But as far as our family was concerned, she was pretty much perfect, and for thirteen years, she would be by our side – always loyal, always sweet, always ready for adventure, still fiery and gorgeous till the very end of her days.
We will miss her terribly, and imagine she’s with her big brother now, making sure he’s okay.

For decades the Arab world has treated Israel like a mistress: the rendezvous were frequent but kept firmly out of sight. One might argue that Israel should now demand Riyadh take the UAE path and make the relationship official before it deepens cooperation against the Houthi threat. That would be a mistake.
Israel wants a warm peace with Saudi Arabia, not a forced détente. Demanding public normalization now won’t produce a treaty; the situation isn’t desperate enough that the kingdom would risk ignoring the Palestinians. Instead, such a demand would only cost Israel friends in the long run. Long before any official ties with the Gulf were announced, Israel had built thousands of smaller connections through intelligence-sharing and cooperation. Israel and Saudi Arabia already have a long history together, but there is no such thing as too strong a foundation.
For now, it is sufficient for Riyadh to know that if it is looking for a protector, it will not find one in Ankara.
Fearing he would antagonize Iran and spoil a useful relationship, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has squandered his chance to consolidate a bloc. In keeping Tehran’s favor, he left an opening for the very adversary he signed the treaty to hedge against to step into the gap.
Washington may have let a similar opportunity slip: the chance to bear-hug a frightened ally. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, CENTCOM wisely reasserted the strength and cohesion of their bloc, convening a meeting in Germany with representatives from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt. But as in the Iran war, military competence was undercut by political mixed messaging.
Mohammed bin Salman asked Trump to strike the Houthis and was repeatedly rebuffed. Trump went further, claiming the terror group “called us, and they let us know that they don’t want to fight with us.” He is unlikely to stay so magnanimous once the Houthis grow less discriminating, but by then it will be too late.
The Saudi fear has never been that the US military couldn’t protect them, but that the US political class wouldn’t. They didn’t sign the Mecca Pact in the immediate aftermath of the war; they signed only after a month of Trump’s bi-polar messaging on negotiations. Even if Washington eventually launches Operation Rough Rider 2 against the Houthis, Riyadh will remember who was there by choice and who had to be forced.
The signals coming from Washington and Ankara contrast nicely with the voice emanating from Jerusalem.
That voice soothes Saudi fears, whispering that there is one country that, unlike the United States, is not going anywhere; that, unlike Turkey, also counts Iran as an enemy; and that, unlike any of the region’s smaller states, has a proven ability to strike the Houthis. We are still far from a public embrace, but this will not be the last time Saudi Arabia prays for Jerusalem in its hour of need.

What IS clear is that there has been a very significant strategic shifting after Ansarallah seized control over the Bab al-Mandeb, and the Saudi East-West Pipeline being destroyed.
While we know that Iran will certainly escalate in the weeks leading up to the midterms, there are increasing indicators that the U.S. and/or Israel may seek to escalate before then…

Jørgen Wæver is a Greenlandic politician. He is pictured here with his wife, Vivian Motzfeldt, who served as Greenland’s chairman for foreign affairs until March this year. She represented Greenland in the negotiations with the USA when Trump threatened to invade Greenland.
The Americans appear to be quite happy with this family as Jørgen Wæver has now received a house in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, paid for by a group of American investors. The investors transferred USD 823,000 directly to the seller to pay for the house which Jørgen Wæver now owns.
One of the investors is Ronald Lauder whom John Bolton has identified as the person who gave Trump the idea to buy Greenland back in 2018.
Jørgen Wæver has declined to comment why he has gotten the house and what he has done or given in return for the 823,000 USD.
We can expect more of this as the USA tries to buy or bribe its way into Greenland and I am not sure we can count on the Greenlandic politicians to resist it.

Here are the facts.
UT limits international students to 4% of its student body.
UT got rid of Affirmative Action ages ago.
If you graduate in the top 10% of your high school class, you get admission to the UT system.
If you graduate in the top 5% of your high school class, you get to compete for slots at UT/Austin.
Everyone at UT/Austin graduated in the top 5% of their high school class.
If there are a lot of UT/Austin students of Indian heritage, oh well.
