  1. Paladino on Attorney General Eric Holder: ‘F*ck him’

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/paladino-f-ag-holder/

A New York Republican angling for the state’s governorship appears to have uttered an expletive when asked his opinion on the attorney general of the United States.

Carl Paladino, who recently attracted controversy for claiming that he doesn’t want children “brainwashed” into thinking homosexuality is okay, was under fire again on Tuesday after The National Journal published a video of the candidate speaking at a Q&A in March. A man asks Paladino, who at that point had yet to win the GOP nomination, what his response would be if Attorney General Eric Holder decided to hold civilian terrorism trials in Manhattan.

“F*ck him. F*ck him,” Paladino replied, the Journal reported. The candidate’s audience, mostly Republicans, erupted into laughter and applause.

Holder, who has maintained support of both civilian prosecutions and military tribunals, backed off on a plan to try five of the alleged 9/11 plotters in New York City.

“This administration rejects the false choice critics would have us make, because if we were to exclusively follow only one path while blocking the use of the other, we would undoubtedly fail in our fundamental duty to bring every terrorist to justice,” he told a civil rights group in April, according to Reuters.

  2. Mark Kirk Sends Poll Watchers To ‘Vulnerable,’ Largely African-American Neighborhoods

    http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/10/mark_kirk_sends_poll_watchers_to_vulnerable_largel.php

In a private phone conversation that was secretly recorded, Mark Kirk, the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Illinois, told state Republican leaders last week about his plan to send “voter integrity” squads to four predominately African American neighborhoods of Chicago “where the other side might be tempted to jigger the numbers somewhat.”

Kirk’s campaign confirmed the candidate was secretly taped last week as he was talking about his anti-voter fraud effort.

“These are lawyers and other people that will be deployed in key, vulnerable precincts, for example, South and West sides of Chicago, Rockford, Metro East, where the other side might be tempted to jigger the numbers somewhat,” he said in the audio posted on YouTube.

These lowlife mofos right here. They want to disenfranchise black voters. It’s like if black people vote then it’s a fraud. Wake up America! These folks don’t want your black face voting at all.

  7. Vettte says:

The CBC are the most important people needed to get out the vote for the midterms. ALL politics is local and if voters don’t see anything worth going to the polls for, they are NOT going to make that stretch to think about saving Obama’s agenda. In Dallas, with all the hoopla surrounding “EBJ”s scholarships” you would think she would be rallying the troops to save her self and more importantly to get votes out to save the DEM agenda. NOT. There are as many yard signs for the AA Teabagger running against her OR MORE than EBJ. We cant afford to loose that seat in Congress. The CBC thinks they have their core group of voters they can count on to re-elect them and they don’t think beyond that – its safe. Obama should be admonishing the CBC because AAs for the most part go to the polls on Nov 2 to elect/re-elect the CBC particularly in major urban communities where the votes are. That’s the way in which you rally the base by rallying the CBC. The Dallas DA race will bring people to the polls moreso than the Congressional seats because he has done great things and AA want him to be re-elected. THE CBC IS THE KEY TO GETTING THE BASE OUT IN MIDTERM ELECTIONS (PERIOD).

    • Ametia says:

With all due respect, Vette, for me, Black folks themselves are the key to getting out to the polls to vote.

There’s only so much hand holding and cajoling. Folks either get actively in the know and involved or they don’t. In the end, no one can save me but me.

If I look for others to motivate and push me to do anything, I’m not free. I want spiritual freedom. If I vote, I vote. If the person I voted for does not win… well, I can’t control that. I voted. It comes down to individuals taking responsibility and doing what they need to do to make life work for them.

And if voting Democratic November 2 doesn’t work for some black folks, well they’ve made their choice.

      • Vettte says:

It’s unfortunate but voting is not as big a priority for the majority of those who should be more conscious. If more people thought like you we could change so much. Politics is local, people wont wake up on Nov 2 and think about voting to save Obama’s agenda. They think about who’s on the ballot for Govenor or congress and depending on what they think about that candidate determines their level of interest. I’m certainly hoping that I’m wrong. Obama is not on the ticket.

      • Alright now! Ima take your money, chile!

    • Vette,

Being negative is not helping. We have to encourage voters to get to the polls. We have to let voters know what’s at stake with a republican take over.
3 Chics is doing our part in helping to get the message out. If we think & speak negativity, we’re going to reap negativity. Words are creating & have action. We have to be not only a speaker of the positive but also a doer of the positive.

Michelle Obama to campaign in the Midwest
    By CHRISTI PARSONS
    Tribune Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama hits the campaign trail Wednesday, kicking off a tour to help embattled Democratic candidates – including the one who wants her husband’s old Senate seat.

But while President Obama and his team are aiming hard shots at Republicans in the run-up to the November midterm elections, the first lady’s team plans a softer, more upbeat approach as she appears on behalf of Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias in Illinois.

“As a self-described Mom-in-Chief, my first priority in the White House has been making sure that my girls are happy and healthy and adjusting to this new life,” Obama will say, according to an advance copy of her public remarks. “My hopes for their future are at the heart of every single thing I do. And that’s really why I’m here today.”

The first lady’s favorability ratings in polls are higher than her husband’s, and Democratic candidates in races all over the country ask for her, according to White House aides. Her campaigning on her husband’s behalf was so effective that she earned the nickname “the Closer.”

But White House officials are not scheduling Michelle Obama to appear on behalf of Illinois Gov. Patrick Quinn or former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, who resigned to run for mayor of Chicago.

Instead, she will appear Wednesday at a fundraiser in Milwaukee for Sen. Russ Feingold, followed by events for Giannoulias and House candidates Dan Seals, Debbie Halvorson and Bill Foster in Chicago.

From there, she’ll spend a week traveling to Colorado, Connecticut, New York, Washington and California for House and Senate candidates.

Over the weekend, she’ll appear with the president in Ohio, the first time they’ve campaigned together since 2008.

One of those functions will be a large rally in Columbus, expected to draw heavily on two critical voter groups for Democrats – young people and African Americans.

Aides say Michelle Obama’s role in the closing days of this campaign will be similar to that in 2008, when she avoided partisan talk and stuck to a positive message.

“She’s going to go out and make a positive and affirmative case for the candidates that she’s campaigning on behalf of, and the steps that the administration has taken over the past two years,” said Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary. “She’s obviously very effective.”

Administration officials say the first lady intends to speak on the authority of her role as a parent.

“As I travel around this country, and look into the eyes of every single child I meet, I see what’s at stake,” her prepared remarks read. “That’s how I see the world. And I think that’s how most folks see the world.”

  10. The Power Of Clinton, The Invisibility Of Obama

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/12/post_548_n_759798.html#comments

LOUISVILLE — I see that Dr. Rand Paul has taken out after Bill Clinton, dredging up Monica Lewinsky. And I know why Paul did so. The former president was here in Kentucky yesterday and in this state, as in many others, he is a far more potent and popular foe than President Barack Obama.

On my first day working for The Huffington Post, I came back to Kentucky, where I began my career many years ago at the Courier-Journal. The people who run the University of Louisville Kentucky Author Forum wanted me to do an on-stage interview with a certain best-selling author who is also my new boss: Arianna Huffington. It was a tricky mix of professional incest and personal nostalgia, but the event worked out well and I also got a chance to play Kentucky reporter once again out in the state.

I raced over to Lexington and here is the ground-level, outside-the-Beltway reality I witnessed:

Like Voldemort’s, Obama’s is a name no one dares utter — and that includes Clinton speaking to Democrats.

At a sunny, noontime rally on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington yesterday, the former president made a stirring, well-argued case for Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway and for Democrats generally — without once mentioning Obama and rarely mentioning the presidency. It was as though we suddenly had only two branches of government.

Howard Fineman, don’t look towards heaven for ice water…. go straight to hell! Your true colors are surfacing & you’re dripping with envy! Suck it up bitches, Barack Hussein Obama is President!

Jane Hamsher – Making Everything Fit Her Narrative Is Hard Work!

    http://extremeliberal.wordpress.com/2010/10/07/jane-hamsher-making-everything-fit-her-narrative-is-hard-work/#comments

From the first time I noticed Jane Hamsher come on the political scene, there was something that didn’t smell right to me. Even though the target she was aiming at was President Bush, I sensed something wasn’t quite right. I certainly cheered her on in her attacks, what good liberal wouldn’t, but I noticed a certain lack of depth to her arguments (I’m being polite, this time). But I still cheered. During the primaries, her lack of depth became even more obvious. I wont’ relive that in this post but rather give a couple of illustrations of what I see as shallow, self serving drivel that seems to pour out of her computer. She is a sad person who has lost her way in the world of politics. A reminder of a post I put up last week (Booman) which illustrates her utter lack of intellectual honesty with herself.

The Obama Derangement Syndrome has reached Stage Four when Jane Hamsher blames the president for not supporting Blanche Lincoln sufficiently.

…Lincoln’s vote for his health care bill cost her dearly, and without Specter’s vote for the stimulus, it never would have happened. Now I don’t feel the least bit sorry for either of them, but it doesn’t say anything good about Obama that he would abandon them in the clinch like that either.

The story is supposed to be that the president hates liberals and loves conservadems like Blanche Lincoln and Arlen Specter. But, when that story doesn’t quite add up, the story shifts to ‘the president doesn’t stick up for his friends’. If you try hard enough, you can criticize the president for taking a crap. If you can read that piece and find a Democrat-supporting author, you have more familiarity than I do with the crack pipe.

I was “appalled” while driving thru the AA neighborhoods to see the Teabaggers signs in actual yards. Maybe AC360 exposure of her “Scholarship Mishap” was somewhat effective. I said this to say, all politics are local. POTUS is NOT on the ballot. I just hope in those elections where Dems are vulnerable, there will be substantial resources to get the Nov 2 vote out. In the case of EBJ, it might be okay, certainly hope so because we can’t stand to loose any DEM seats. All politics are local, the POTUS is NOT on the ballot. VOTE anyhow.

U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips’ landmark ruling Tuesday was widely cheered by gay rights organizations that credited her with getting accomplished what President Obama and Washington politics could not.

U.S. Department of Justice attorneys have 60 days to appeal. Legal experts say they are under no legal obligation to do so and they could let Phillips’ ruling stand.

    http://zandarvts.blogspot.com/2010/10/chamber-of-secrets.html
Everything you need to know about the US Chamber of Commerce taking foreign donations to get Republicans into power story can be summed up by this horrified reaction from Blue Dogs in the LA Times.

Democrats expressing reservations have worked on behalf of moderate candidates with business backing. They recalled past attacks on former President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore for receiving foreign money and warned that White House charges now could lead to GOP reprisals, particularly if Republicans gain control of the House.

“The White House may reap the whirlwind,” said one top Democratic staffer. “What are we going to do next year if a Republican Congress is making baseless claims about President Obama? We’ll want the media to hold them accountable to the facts and the evidence.”

The Democratic staffer and a handful of other prominent Democrats spoke on condition of anonymity because of the political sensitivity of the topic.

You know what this tells me? A) the story is true, B) the Chamber is going to take it out on the Blue Dogs unless they kill this thing now, and C) the Blue Dogs are terrified.

It also tells me that Congressional staffers are idiots. “What are we going to do next year if a Republican Congress is making baseless claims about President Obama?” Effing really? What do you think Republicans have been doing for the last two years? Have you knuckleheads learned nothing about how completely ineffective the strategy of “capitulating to the Republicans so they aren’t mean you” is?

We can’t follow up foreign/anonymous/unlimited contributions to our political system because it might make the Republicans attack Obama?

Jesus wept. This country is heading straight for the toilet.

Justice Clarence Thomas probably had a ho-hum day on June 7, 2010. From time to time, the Supreme Court of the United States makes historic decisions, but on that day, it didn’t. It handed down three noncontroversial rulings, and in all of them, Justice Thomas voted, non controversially, with the majority.

His wife, on the other hand, started the day in a blaze of publicity. Virginia Lamp Thomas, known to all as Ginni, appeared that morning on Sean Hannity’s Fox show. Wearing a TV-red jacket, Thomas bantered with Hannity about the “tyranny” President Barack Obama and his party are inflicting on the country. Then Thomas, who had recently launched a nonprofit called Liberty Central, sounded a dire warning. “We are in a fight for our country’s life,” she said. “We’ve all got to do whatever we can.” Channeling Tea Party rhetoric, she called on conservative voters to give money, sign petitions, and, in November, overthrow those who are turning “citizens” into “subjects.”

It starts with the words “I love you,” and it ends with a punch in the face.

It starts with the line, “It’s us against the world,” and it ends with her against the wall in tears.

It starts with the suggestion of what to wear, and it ends with him saying, “I tear you down to build you up. You are mine.”

I have heard the stories. I have seen the pain. I have watched a loved one suffer in an abusive relationship, and ultimately die because she just could not bring herself to leave.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. I recently had the honor for the second time to host the awards dinner for a dating violence awareness organization called Day One.

Day One, a New York City-based group, started its journey of helping victims and survivors of abuse in 2003. The goal: to prevent abuse and protect those who suffer at the hands of–in most cases–people they thought loved them. Over a span of seven years, Day One has helped 22,000 young people learn how to identify abuse and to foster and maintain healthy relationships.

Just writing those words, 22,000 young people, sends chills down my spine. Think about it. We live in a world where we must teach young people how to identify abuse. With so many messages and images of what is right and wrong, there is still so much to be taught on this issue. Why is this the case?

“I thought the meeting was great in that it showed that President Obama and his administration are taking black new media and our growing influence seriously,” David A. Wilson, managing editor of theGrio.com, told Journal-isms via e-mail.
“They outlined how the administration’s policies have had a positive effect on the African-American community and they invited us to make suggestions on how they could work better with us and provide us with more access to the White House.
“I also thought the summit provided a great opportunity for all of us leading the charge in [the] black new media movement to get together in a way that I haven’t seen since we started theGrio last year.”
However, Leutisha Stills, who blogs at Jack & Jill Politics, cautioned, “The summit was a good one and very comprehensive, but we made it known that if we really have ‘influence,’ we are going to test drive it and see how many more invites we get from the White House.”
The Columbus Day session lasted from 9:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with senior adviser Valerie Jarrett present along with specialists from various parts of the administration, including the first lady’s office. By Laura Meckler
The civil rights leader, Rev. Joseph Lowery, has recorded a radio ad for the Democratic National Committee aimed at getting African-Americans to vote in the November election. The ad will run on nationally syndicated radio shows with strong black audiences and on urban radio in states such as Pennsylvania, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio and Florida, according to DNC officials.

The DNC is spending $1 million on the new ad campaign. That’s in addition to $2 million spent in recent weeks in St. Louis, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. The DNC said it also plans advertising aimed at Hispanics in some competitive states.

African-Americans are predominantly Democratic and like other Democrats are less excited about this election than Republicans are. That’s got Democratic strategists worried about voter turnout.

The new DNC radio spot invokes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and recounts President Obama’s 2008 victory: “In 2008, we changed the guard. This year, we must guard the change. This is Reverend Joseph Lowery, asking you to stand on the shoulders of those who came before you.”

    By ELIZABETH WILLIAMSON
Democrats and their allies are broadening their attacks on campaign spending by pro-Republican groups, hoping to force the disclosure of donors’ identities and curtail a lucrative source of financing for their rivals.

Liberal activist group MoveOn.org and nonprofit groups Public Citizen and Public Campaign plan to press media outlets that run campaign advertising to question whether the cash used for the ad buys is legal for that purpose.

The groups are also asking the U.S. Department of Justice and Internal Revenue Service to investigate the pro-Republican groups and the sources of their ad spending.

“We’re going to keep hounding every group we can, filing complaints with the IRS, using every avenue we can to keep the spotlight on them, and hopefully someone’s going to come forward” and name donors, says Public Citizen chief lobbyist Craig Holman.

Honing a campaign message, President Barack Obama and Democratic Party officials have in recent days strongly suggested the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other groups, including two run by Republican strategist Karl Rove, are illegally using money from foreign nationals or companies to fund U.S. political advertising.

The groups have repeatedly denied the charges.

At a high-spirited rally in Philadelphia on Sunday, President Obama challenged the mostly black crowd to defy pundits who purvey the conventional wisdom. “They think, ‘Oh, well, Obama’s name is not on the ballot, maybe they’re not going to turn out,’ ” he said, referring to African American voters. “You’ve got to prove them wrong.”

Delivering the same message at historically black Bowie State University in Maryland a few days earlier, the president got downright personal: “Don’t make me look bad, now.”

How the president looks on Election Day will depend in part on his ability to fire up the constituencies in the Democratic Party’s base. With different groups, he’s taking different approaches.

For progressives who have criticized his administration from the left, he has a stern lecture that might be paraphrased like this: “Come on, people, give us a break. Have you noticed that we don’t exactly have a liberal majority in Congress? Yet, look at all we’ve managed to accomplish.” For centrist Democrats who might have wanted him to spend more time on jobs and less on health care, Obama’s message is essentially apocalyptic, although it’s delivered in his customary no-drama way. Something like: “You’re right, things aren’t as great as we’d like. But just imagine the disaster if the Republicans take control of Capitol Hill.”

With African Americans, his appeal has been simpler and more direct: “I need you.” The response he gets from black voters may determine the outcome of some of November’s key races.

    • Please, Eugene!

Interesting, we never saw headlines in 2008 about John McCain & Hillry Clinton that read:

Can Clinton and McCain Deliver the White Vote? No what we saw was how low these two could sink right along with the media parading that Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin around like they were the second coming of Christ.

That was their so-called coded message for who would deliver them their votes. along with “Hard working American” Because lord knows they could not be alluding to those lazy blacks who want to take YT’s jobs and their hard earned money by begging for welfare.

And lest we forget “Value voters” meaning white votes are the only votes that matter.

So Eugene and Co. Yes, Obama can and already has delivered the Black vote to Dems. the majority of Black folks have always voted Democratic. this shit aint new, so don’t make like this is some new phenomena.

      Y’all aint slick!
