  2. Republicans plan 2011 agenda

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39882822/ns/politics-decision_2010

WASHINGTON — Republican leaders, ever more confident of their chances of winning control of the House and possibly even the Senate, have begun plotting a 2011 agenda topped by a push for more than $100 billion in spending cuts, tax reductions and attempts to undo key parts of President Barack Obama’s health care and financial regulation laws.
The question is how much of the GOP’s government-shrinking, tax-cutting agenda to advance, and how fast.
It’s certain that Republicans want to capitalize quickly on tea party-fueled anger and the antiestablishment fervor that they believe will provide momentum to accomplish an activist to-do list. It’s equally clear, however, that the outsized expectations of a fed-up electorate and a crop of unruly newcomers could complicate the plans. So could Obama and fellow Democrats who will still be around after Tuesday’s elections.

    Dream on, beyotches!

  3. Juan Williams: Fox News Isn’t Racist

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/juan-williams-fox-news-le_n_774691.html

Juan Williams said Tuesday that he’s still upset about his firing from NPR, and added that NPR does not understand the Fox News culture or audience.

In an interview with Baltimore Sun columnist David Zurawik, Williams said he remains emotionally “roiled” by the incident and said, despite being hired full-time by Fox News with a three-year, $2 million contract, “there’s an emotional disconnect, because the way it feels to me is like I just got fired and I’m not even sure what I did wrong.”

Williams said he was particularly upset over NPR CEO Vivian Schiller’s comment that he should have kept his remark — that he gets “nervous” when he sees Muslims on planes — with “his psychiatrist or his publicist.”

And he added that NPR executives simply do not understand Fox News:

At NPR…they don’t know this: A third of the audience for Bill O’Reilly’s show is made up of people of color,” Williams said. “At NPR, they think, ‘Oh, these people who watch Fox don’t appreciate diversity of opinion, they’re not smart people. They’re not informed people. Oh, yeah? I’ll tell you what: They’re informed.”…

Williams said NPR “just doesn’t understand the Fox audience” — or have any idea how much more enlightened Fox News management is in some ways compared with news outlets like NPR, CNBC or CNN.

“Just consider the idea that Fox allows me the opportunity to sit in for Bill O’Reilly on their No. 1 show,” he said. “That’s the franchise. That’s the moneymaker. If that show falls in the toilet, it’s bad for the whole lineup. And yet Fox allows a black guy with a Hispanic name to sit in the big chair and host the show.”

Huh? Oh, he’s going to really buck-dance now.

Juan, Juan, Juan, Fox will use your black ass like 3 sheets of Charmin and flush you and it down the toilet when they’re done with you.

  4. Tea Party backing candidate who allegedly shot unarmed Iraqis 60 times

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/gop-candidate-killed-unarmed-iraqi/

A Tea Party-backed candidate who allegedly murdered two unarmed Iraqis could win a seat in the House of Representatives, The Guardian reports.

Thirty-nine-year-old Ilario Pantano, who is running for North Carolina’s 7th congressional district as a Republican, was charged with the premeditated murder of two Iraqi civilians in 2005 while serving as a second lieutenant with the US Marines.

In April of 2004, Pantano and his platoon stopped and detained two Iraqi men in a car near Falluja. While the majority of his platoon was away, he and two others ordered the detained Iraqis to search their own car for weapons and then allegedly unloaded two full magazines of his M16A4 rifle into them.

Sergeant Daniel Coburn, who was 27 at the time and one of the three soldiers at the incident, recalled wondering “when the lieutenant was going to stop, because it was obvious that they were dead.”

“I believed that by firing the number of rounds that I did, I was sending a message,” Pantano told the New York magazine.

  5. Obama On Daily Show: Change ‘Not Going To Happen Overnight’

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/obama-daily-show-jon-stewart-interview_n_775102.html#comments

President Obama filmed an appearance on “The Daily Show” on Wednesday, during which the commander-in-chief and host Jon Stewart discussed Obama’s presidency, the economy and issues such as health care reform.

Early in the interview, Obama mentioned that “people are frustrated,” but also insisted that “there is still a lot of good stuff happening.” Later, while discussing the president’s health care legislation, Obama said, “When we promised during campaign ‘change you can believe in,’ it wasn’t change you can believe in in 18 months.”

Obama also defended the administration’s handling of the financial crisis. “We saved taxpayers a whole lot of money,” he said on the show. The president expressed a desire to reform the senate’s filibustering rules, arguing that the current situation “makes it very difficult for us to move forward.”

  6. Capitol Hill Club, GOP’s Hangout Spot, Sued For Racial Discrimination

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/capitol-hill-club-discrimination_n_774958.html

The Capitol Hill Club, a top hangout spot and frequent official business locale for elected Republicans and their campaign committees, is being sued for racial discrimination.

A former employee for the club filed a suit this week after having been fired in late July. The plaintiff, Kim Crawford, claims that she was passed over for raises for more than eight years. In her suit, she seeks $3 million in compensatory and punitive damages — a fairly large sum though not an unprecedented total.

The club, known formally as the “National Republican Club of Capitol Hill,” is a separate organization from the Republican National Committee. But it is the committee’s next-door neighbor. And having it find its way to the center of a racial controversy is, undoubtedly, an unwanted (even if minor) headache in the election’s closing week.

The defendant in the suit, Stanley Lawson, the general manager of National Republican Club, is accused of discriminatory acts not just against Crawford but against other employees as well. According to the complaint,

“Mr. Trevor Burt, a Jamaican-American, who had been serving as the banquet chef, applied for the ‘Executive Chef’ position… Burt was then given the title of ‘Acting Executive Chef’ during this interim period… Burt did not receive a competitive salary while holding the ‘Acting Executive Chef’ position nor seriously considered for the executive chef position.”

  7. White House Women to Appear on ‘Ellen’ Thursday

    http://www.nationaljournal.com/whitehouse/michelle-obama-and-jill-biden-to-appear-on-ellen-degeneres-show-20101025

The administration’s women in chief will go hand-in-hand on the campaign trail this week for three days of powerhouse events.
On Tuesday, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will address Maria Shriver’s women’s conference and attend a Democratic National Committee event in Los Angeles that evening. On Wednesday, they will campaign for Sen. Barbara Boxer of California. And on Thursday, they will appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The trip comes just a week before the midterm elections, as part of a concerted White House effort to woo women voters.
It also means the White House has a good week ahead in national media exposure. In addition to the first and second ladies’ TV appearance, the president will tape an interview for The Daily Show on Wednesday which will air that night.

Let’s Move! has been on the backburner during election campaign stops, except for specific audiences…

While in Los Angeles today, First Lady Michelle Obama will tape a radio interview with Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo, the popular Univision Radio host of Piolin por la Mañana. In addition to wooing Latino voters, Mrs. Obama is scheduled to discuss Let’s Move! with Tweety Bird, as he’s known to his millions of fans; he noted this on his blog. It’s an exception to what has been the rule of keeping the First Lady’s childhood obesity campaign and the electoral campaign separate.

  10. Obama Conducts First Sit-Down With Progressive Bloggers

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/obama-conducts-first-sit-_n_774728.html

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has gone on a veritable media blitz as the election has approached, speaking to reporters in off-record settings, doing sit-down interviews with traditional (National Journal) and alternative (Rolling Stone) publications, and appearing on radio programs with varying audiences (Al Sharpton and Michael Smerconish’s shows just this week).

The reach extends deep into the entrails of the new media world as well. On Wednesday, the president conducted what appears to be the first ever in-person sit-down with political bloggers, hosting a group of five in the White House.

The invitees fall more under the rubric of ideological or issue-oriented activists as opposed to online reporters, though the names are familiar to most political junkies. An administration official confirmed that Joe Sudbay of AMERICABlog; Duncan Black (“Atrios”), who runs the site Eschaton; Barbara Morrill, who writes for the DailyKos; Jon Amato, who is the founder of Crooks and Liars; and Oliver Willis, who runs an eponymous site, spoke with the president on Wednesday.

See the Rethugs and their renegade Teabaggers started all this. Proclaiming that the Rethugs would take over Congress…downright predicting it. So, the POTUS, who knows how loyal the base is to The First African American President of the United States, is playing HIS CARD. Now, yeah I said it. Call it the race card if you want – a POTUS has to do what a POTUS has to do.

I just want a Supreme Court Queen when he gets to dance again with the ones who brung him.

Wonderful news! PBO recognizes the power of blogging. A plethora of information is revealed in the threads and comments. If pols want to know what and how folks are thinking. Social media is an effective tool for disseminating information about their constituency.

  11. Vettte says:

Rick Perry, The Lieutenant Governor and another Rethug running for US Rep all have TV commercials running that never mention their opponents – ONLY OBAMA. That’s enough to confuse people. They mean harm in trying to get out their base but for people who don’t pay close attention to politics or the news, I can see how its confusing. So, this little old lady ALONG WITH ANOTHER little old lady asked that question, in all sincerity. Or maybe it was the Senior Center that told her “We’ve got to support Obama, so you need to go on up there and vote.” When she said it, my ears chimed right on into her conversation because this lady was serious. She was intent on voting for Obama. They betta be glad I wasn’t working the polls, because without hesitation I would have said, “Come on, step right over here, if you want to vote for Obama just press this button right here that says STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET.” And after she had punched the button, with a smile, I would have looked her straight in the eye and said “Now, you JUST VOTED FOR OBAMA”.

Voted! Defended Change! The Early Voting Poll at the MLK Center in Dallas was PACKED today. As I waited in line, there was a lady in front of me who asked the Poll Worker if “Obama was on the ballot”. Well, the poll worker’s neck went way back in disbelief and she told the lady, “No Maam, Mr. Obama is President of the United States”. The lady then said, “So Obama is not on the ballot”. After she got the lady situated, she came back to take me next and she said to me, “Can you believe she asked me is Obama was on the ballot? And she’s not the only one who has come in here and asked if Obama was on the ballot.” I told the poll worker, “You should have told her YEAH! and taken her to the voting station and told her to punch STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET. Then she would have voted for Obama.” I fell out laughing. Then I almost punched a hole on ‘STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET.” More importantly, there was NO paper/form to drop in a slot AT ALL this time, nothing to tamper with, STRAIGHT ELECTRONIC — STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC!!

The steely Brooklyn cop who faced down a gunman at a beauty parlor – shooting the pistol out of his hands – modestly laughed off her new title after she was promoted Tuesday.

“Just call me Jonesy,” freshly minted Det. Feris Jones pleaded moments after Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly pinned a shiny gold shield to her dress blues.

The combatants in Saturday’s amazing salon shootout received their just rewards at almost the same hour Tuesday: The accused gunman was arraigned in Brooklyn just as the hero cop was lauded at City Hall.

“This is a story that will be told at the Police Department for many years to come,” said Mayor Bloomberg, who praised Jones’ “incredible bravery and marksmanship.”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/farooque-ahmed-arrested-f_n_774841.html#comments

WASHINGTON — A Virginia man was arrested Wednesday and charged with trying to help people he believed were al-Qaida operatives planning to bomb subway stations around the nation’s capital, the FBI said.

The FBI said the public was never in danger because its agents were aware of the man’s activities before the alleged planning took place and monitored him throughout.

Farooque Ahmed, 34, a naturalized citizen born in Pakistan, had been indicted under seal Tuesday in Alexandria, Va., and the indictment was released Wednesday. He was charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization, collecting information to assist in planning a terrorist attack on a transit facility, and attempting to provide material support to carry out multiple bombings to cause mass casualties at Washington-area metro stations. Ahmed lives in Ashburn, Va., outside Washington.

What makes me ticked about this comment is the lack of disdain for the behavior. Todd never once denounces this shyt.

“First Read: “We’ve seen plenty of anger, frustration, and high emotions in past campaigns. But the anger this cycle — culminating in Monday’s stomping in Kentucky — feels so much more different. Just think back to the contentious town halls in the summer of 2009, Joe Wilson’s ‘You lie,’ and Newt Gingrich agreeing that the best way to describe the president is as a Kenyan anti-colonialist. More recently, we’ve seen the Carl Paladino phenomenon, a candidate’s security detail handcuffing a reporter, and Frank Caprio telling the president to ‘shove it.’ And then there’s all the women candidates (from both parties) aggressively saying, ‘Man up.’ Maybe our memories are too short, but the level of anger, disrespect, and incivility seems to be at an all-time high right now.”

October 27, 2010, 12:02 am Model Now Has Whitman as Big Underdog in California
    By NATE SILVER
While there was an interesting set of polls in Senate and U.S. House races today, the polling load was lighter in gubernatorial contests, with most surveys confirming current assumptions about the races.

That’s bad news for California’s Meg Whitman, the Republican who appears increasingly likely to lose a once-tight race against Jerry Brown. Indeed, that assumption will become more entrenched after three new polls today.

The surveys, from Suffolk University, Fox News, and Public Policy Polling, gave Mr. Brown leads of 8, 9 and 11 points, respectively. While this is the first time that Suffolk has polled California, the Fox News and Public Policy Polling surveys show Mr. Brown having expanded his lead by several points, as other recent surveys have also shown.

As a result of these polls, our forecasting model now gives Ms. Whitman just a 6 percent chance of winning, down from 10 percent yesterday.

Scalia takes Kagan to gun range, sources say
    By Alexis Levinson – The Daily Caller | Published: 12:00 AM 10/25/2010 | Updated: 12:28 AM 10/26/10

According to two witnesses, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia took fellow Justice Elena Kagan out for a lesson in skeet shooting at his shooting club in Virginia last week.

The witnesses saw Scalia at the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club, where he is a member, around noon on Wednesday of last week. He was with a woman who was noticeably diminutive in height, like Kagan, who stands at about five feet three inches. The witnesses, who got a very close look at the pair, say that the woman was the newest Supreme Court Justice.

Scalia was bending down in order to teach Kagan how to hold the shotgun, the witnesses say, and the pair were shooting skeet.

Kagan, who was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Obama in May and confirmed by the Senate in August, is generally believed to hold negative opinions toward the Second Amendment. The perception is based on a memo she penned in the eighties as Justice Thurgood Marshall’s law clerk, in which she said she was “not sympathetic” to the Second Amendment argument in a case that dealt with the District of Columbia’s gun laws. Also, during her time as a member of the Clinton administration, she played a role in instituting a temporary suspension of licenses for the importation of assault rifles. Kagan did not comment on the issue of gun rights during her confirmation hearings.

Tot he Green Station you go Obama Haters book club!

    The Obama Haters Book Club
    By John Avlon

Just two years into his term, some 46 books demonizing the president have been published. John Avlon on the latest sign that hate is driving the midterm elections.
Hating President Obama has become its own industry—and here’s a new stat to prove it: To date, there have been at least 46 anti-Obama books published. I’m not talking about thoughtful criticisms of his policies, but detailed demonizations of the president. These screeds cannot help but have an impact on the typically low-turnout, high-intensity midterm elections that will take place Tuesday.
It’s also evidence that the proliferation of Obama Derangement Syndrome has out-paced Bush Derangement Syndrome—big time. At this point in Bush’s presidency there were only five anti-W books (a total no doubt depressed by the national unity that emerged in the wake of 9/11). It took Bush until November of 2004—the culmination of his contentious re-election campaign – to hit 46.
