Huckabee’s Talking Out of Both Sides of His Mouth on Obama

Hat tip- JackandJillPolitics

So Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, must be warming up to run for president. And he’s practicing by saying what he thinks the people want to hear, depending on who he happens to be facing at the time. That’s old school politics, right? George Allen tried that with “Macaca” out in the woods of Virginia thinking he was safe to throw a racial slur at a young man. It doomed his presidential ambitions. If a slur falls in the forest in front of wealthy, conservative, ex-urban southerners — does anyone hear it? In the age of blogs, twitter and YouTube, um — that would be a yes. I watched Mike Huckabee on Good Morning America what seems like just the other day in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Feb 21. He sounded reasonable and non-crazy on the whole birther thing and it was actually great to see a conservative who has enough self-respect not to traffic in the notion that President Obama is not a citizen. From George’s blog post on the interview (emphasis mine): A very recent poll in Feb showed that Birthers — people who don’t believe that Barack Obama was born in the U.S. — comprise the majority at 51% of 2012 Republican primary voters. It is shocking indeed to know that the number of people who believe their president is not a citizen is increasing over time. From HuffPo: The GOP birther majority is a new development. The last time PPP tested this question nationally, in August of 2009, only 44% of Republicans said they thought Obama was born outside the country while 36% said that he definitely was born in the United States. If anything birtherism is on the rise. It’s racist. And it’s sickening that Huckabee — who knows better, clearly — would pander to the fantasies who don’t know better. He tried to wiggle out of it at the end but by talking about Kenya, he’s casting Obama as anti-British and therefore anti-American. The truth is that the President replaced the bust of an amazing English leader with that of an even more inspiring American leader: Dr. Martin Luther King. What could be more patriotic than that?Read morehere:

SG2: Mike Huckabee, What’s up with all the dog whistles? So, you wanna dance with the devil in the pale moon light? Sacrificing your soul to get votes? You’re disgusting! You stink before the nostrils of God. Your soul is corrupt, and the love of God is not in you! You’re a lying liar!

Ametia stated: **SIGH** When will Huckabee and the other GOP clowns learn new ways to win and to govern? Using the same tired, wornout, divisive race-baiting, fear-mongering tactics.. No morals, conscience, just like, cheat, distort, and divide.

  3. Huckabee the Huckabirther Doubles Down on Obama Smear

    http://www.jackandjillpolitics.com/2011/03/huckabee-the-huckabirther-doubles-down-on-obama-smear/

Don’t you love when racists basically faux-pologize? Like: “I deeply apologize if any of you lazy, shiftless niggers were offended when I referred to you as ‘those people’.”

It wasn’t enough to attack Obama as an anti-American Kenyan. No yesterday, Huckabirther also implied that Obama is a Muslim, rather than a Christian.

    Here’s what Huck said:

And I have said many times, publicly, that I do think he has a different worldview and I think it is, in part, molded out of a very different experience. Most of us grew up going to Boy Scout meetings and, you know, our communities were filled with Rotary Clubs, not madrassas.

And I just do think that there is – again, I am not saying he’s not a citizen, I’ve never said that, I’ve said the opposite. I’ve never said he’s a Muslim. You know, if the reporters could read page one of my book, they could get all that, because that’s the first thing I talk about on the very first page of the book. But they’d rather not read for themselves, and they’d rather just jump to a conclusion that absolutely isn’t there. I wish they would ask, though, does this president have a different worldview than any other president in the history of the United States.

See, he’s not a birther, silly! He just thinks that Barack Obama is different from, you know, real Americans since he wasn’t raised in America for part of his childhood. You know it would be fine if the Prez had been raised in Kenya and if he were a Muslim. We’d still love him and think he was an amazing President, especially compared to the other people vying for the gig. Still, it’s a matter of fact vs fiction and standard vs double standard. Matt Browner Hamlin at AmericaBlog pegs it:

Huckabee’s choice of words is even more extreme in they circumscribe being an American to being persistently within the Lower 48. How does Huckabee mesh his assessment Americans being molded differently from being in communities which are filled with madrassas and not Rotary Clubs? The women and men of the US Armed Forces are stationed in over 60 countries around the world, including quite a few Muslim countries that have madrassas. Are the children of men and women who are stationed overseas growing up with an un-American world view? Is John McCain, who was born in and grew up in Panama at the same time as military dictator Manuel Noriega, un-American with a dictatorial worldview?

Also, Barack Obama writes in his memoirs about being part of a Boy Scout troop in Indonesia!!! It’s just all complete crap.

And here’s what’s most appalling for me, at least. They can’t attack the man on the basis of values, accomplishments or policy positions. So the GOP, led by Huckabirther, has resorted to personal attacks, playing the race and religion cards. And the only way to chip at Obama’s luster is to throw manufactured mud, since there’s no real facts to smear him. What makes Obama different than any other president in the history of the United States, Mike Huckabee? It’s not his “worldview” you’re dogwhistling at but his race, ain’t it?

It’s beneath any man or woman who wishes to represent the highest expression of American values to behave in such a manner. Grow up, Mike — if you want to like the man in the mirror, I’d suggest you lay off the schoolyard taunts.

Sweet Jesus — help us to endure a presidential Republican primary that features a race to the bottom of the bigoted mouthbreathers comprising the GOP base these days. The fact that Republicans wink gleefully at the notion of our President being un-American and a non-citizen is un-patriotic and disgusting disingenuity at its worst.

    • Go get him, Jill! Huckabee is a nasty mofo! Just blatant in your face racism. I hate these people!!!!!!!!!!!!! They’re nothing but filth from the bottom of barrel. Huckabee’s ignorant country ass will NEVER be President!

The Hardball host shares his thoughts on Mike Huckabee’s false statements about President Barack’s childhood.

Let me finish tonight with this potentially dangerous talk in American politics. It comes, I suppose, from a mix of belief and politics.

      http://hardblogger.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/03/03/6179966-huckabees-dangerous-talk
Consider, seriously, what Mike Huckabee, has been saying.

The other day he was on a radio program and followed up a challenge to President Obama’s basic American identity by adding his own charges.

What Huckabee did was repeat, basically, something Newt Gingrich said in September about the president looking at the world from his father’s perspective, as a Kenyan living under British colonialism.

Huckabee said on the radio Monday that he finds it “troubling” that because of Obama’s grown up in Kenya – his view of the Brits – for example – (is) very different from the average American… His perspective growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists persecuted his grandfather.”

Huckabee said all this Monday and then listened as his radio host explained that his background of the President growing up in Kenya is why President Obama despises the West, despises the British, and why he despises Israel and could take it out on her.

Huckabee engaged in this conversation about Obama coming from a youth in Kenya even though we Americans know a tremendous amount about our president’s life: how he grew up in Hawaii, spent several years in Indonesia, attended a top-rated prep school in Honolulu, went to Occidental college, then Columbia and Harvard Law. He was elected State Senator in Illinois, ran and lost for the House, ran for the Senate and won. The rest is history.

So this story, this narrative, that Mike Huckabee is preaching, is simply the kind of “African” story the cultural right wing in this country wants to hear. It’s a story of foreign-ness and exotic ethnicity that fits with its notion that if you’re not a right-winger from the country, you’re not a real American.

This is dangerous talk, telling a “birther” he “would love to know more” about the president’s background – like there’s something unAmerican here.

Mike Hukabee shouldn’t be spreading false witness about people. It’s just wrong.
      .

      • Huckabee needs to be smacked for spreading these kind of vicious lies. No true man of God would do such a such a thing. He is pandering for votes and he doesn’t give a damn how he gets them. Punk ass bitch!

    Huck Fink
Posted by Joe Klein Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:24 am

As Jay Newton-Small and Amy Sullivan reported yesterday, Mike Huckabee made a toxic fool of himself on the subject of Barack Obama’s upbringing and heritage:

“If you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.”

Huckabee was never an entirely plausible candidate for President–could we actually ever elect a man who has his doubts about evolution? whose comments about Israel seemed to indicate a literal interpretation of the Bible and the Rapture myth?–but he always struck me as a good guy, more concerned about working-class America than most of his rivals. These comments, however, and his subsequent lie that he really meant Indonesia not Kenya, really show a demented, perverse sensibility, and they demonstrate some of the ugliness at the heart of Obama hatred.

I’m talking about the Mau Mau comment, especially. When I was growing up, Mau Mau was shorthand for: Extremely Scary Black People. The brutality of the Mau Mau rebellion was legendary (and, who knows, perhaps even accurate). It became a term of art in the sixties: to mau-mau was to intimidate white people. (As a young reporter in Boston, I covered a would-be black militant group that called itself, with brilliant irony, De Mau Mau.) To associate Barack Obama with the Mau Mau rebellion is to feed all the worst, paranoid fears of Glenn Beck’s America–and, as any sane person knows, completely ridiculous.

  5. Huckabee: Obama Isn’t From Kenya, But He’s Still Anti-American

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/03/huckabee-obama-isnt-from-kenya-but-hes-still-anti-american.php

Mike Huckabee now says he knows President Obama wasn’t born in Kenya and that he misspoke when he made that much-maligned comment earlier this week. But on social conservative Bryan Fischer’s radio show on Wednesday, he agreed when the host offered that “there may be some fundamental anti-Americanism in this president.”

“Well, that’s exactly the point that I make in the book,” Huckabee replied.

On Tuesday, as TPM reported, Huckabee was slammed far and wide for commentshe made to radio host Steve Malzberg. “One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, [President Obama’s] view of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American,” he said.

His spokesperson later said Huckabee “simply misspoke” about where Obama was from, and meant to say he grew up in Indonesia.

On Wednesday, Huckabee called it “pathetic” that “journalists and reporters” were jumping on the remarks. Speaking to anti-gay, anti-bear activist Fischer, Huckabee was emphatic that he’s never said Obama was born “anywhere other than Hawaii where he claims to have been born.”

Fischer replied that “what got lost in all the shuffle was the legitimate point that you were making is that we may have a president who has some fundamentally anti-American ideas, that may be rooted in a childhood where he had a father who was virulently anti-colonial, hated the British.”

“And so I’d like you to comment on that,” Fischer continued. “You seem to think that there is some validity to the fact that there may be some fundamental anti-Americanism in this president.”

“Well, that’s exactly the point that I make in the book,” Huckabee responded. “And I don’t know why these reporters — maybe they can’t read.”

“And I have said many times,” he later added, “publicly, that I do think he has a different worldview and I think it’s, in part, molded out of a very different experience. Most of us grew up going to Boy Scout meetings and, you know, our communities were filled with Rotary Clubs, not madrassas.”

What does the bible say about greed? I think huckabee started out a decent man but the money and fame have changed him. Not that he was great but I don’t think he was all bad. Now he has sold his soul for the worlds riches. Sad indeed.

    • Ametia says:

I hear you Dannie. You give folks the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Although, I never trutsted anyone who was a regular on FOX.

  7. Ametia says:

Here we are years into the presidency and these white crackers are still trying to delegitamize the BLACK MAN. These folks are still in shock! I hope their heads EXPLODE!

  8. Ametia says:

    Barack Hussein Obama is BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And he got elected by the majority of American people in 2008. He’s in the White House as President of the United States of America, and will be in the White House as president for at least another 6 years.

  9. Montana says:

To all the “Chicken Littles” that keep saying that the sky is falling, and the Unites States will fail, never count against the United States of America, we are coming back and you and your phonies are wrong!

The Birthers just HATE and can’t debate, where is there proof you might asked? Up where the sun don’t shine, HA, HA, show some proof birthers or people will continue to see you as dumb, stupid or racist, maybe all three. Can you blame them?

    • Ametia says:

If the media where legitimate, they’d ask Mike Huckabee and the other GOP candidates what are their plans for America if they were to get elected. The media feeds this nonsense and do NOT hold these fools accountable by not addressing the REAL ISSUES facing America.

      Meanwhile the president is PRESIDING.

  10. Poll: Southern Republicans prefer Huckabee for 2012

    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/03/02/109658/poll-southern-republicans-prefer.html

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Less than a year before the South’s first presidential primary, a new poll shows former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leading a field of prospective Republican candidates among Southern voters.

Huckabee easily led former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, 21.9 percent to 12.9 percent. Former Govs. Sarah Palin of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts scored 8.7 percent and 6.9 percent in the poll of 11 Southern states by Winthrop University of Rock Hill, S.C. The margin of error is plus or minus 5.3 percentage points.

    • Ametia says:

Less than a year before the South’s first presidential primary, a new poll shows former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leading a field of prospective Republican candidates among Southern voters.

    Hmmmmm…..

  12. Huckabee knew exactly what he was doing. He was reaching for the racist CaC vote! Misspoke my *ss! Dog whistling mofo!

    • Ametia says:

This is the game plan for 2012. The CRAZY CRACKERS can’t win with any intelligence and semblance of governing. Watch for this meme to expand with the other candidates. That’s why none of them will DENOUNCE the birther’s claims.

His white mother and black father and being raised by his white grandparents in America WILL PREVAIL, bitches. Get over it.

      • Huckabee didn’t learn anything from the last election! The dog whistling didn’t work then and it won’t work now! Ask the Clintons how that worked out for them?

      • Ametia says:

And that hick Pawlenty is a crazy coward too. None of these fools are SMART enough to get elected honestly. These white males think they don’t have to do any REAL WORK to get elected and govern. They think whiteness and money is all they need.

      • Ametia says:

Make no mistake about it; the fearful, cowardly GOP white male candidates hate AMERICA. They hate the BLACK man so much, that they’d sink to levels lower than a sewer to paint him as anti-American.

America was built on the blood, sweat, tears, and LIVES of BLACKS. BLACK IS AMERICA, MOFOs.

      • Ametia says:

It’s BLATANTLY obvious that Fuckabee and nem aren’t courting the BLACK vote. Their screams for attention are directed at the white low-information voters, the FOX HOUND folks who get their information from an alternate universe.

The kind of tactics that Huckabee and assosicates use to appeal to the lowest in humans. Where there is love there can be no fear, and where there is fear there can be NO TRUTH. Fear negates TRUTH.
