Courtland Milloy’s Not Down With The President’s Call on Killing Osama Bin Laden: Veils It In Concern For Black Children

                                          SLAVE-CATCHER of the day

h/t rikyrah @ JJP

What is with these black men in the press who have such a disdain for the President.  Is it to garner attention, what is it?

If you haven’t read the article in today’s Washington Post by Courtland Milloy, please do.

Courtland Milloy: What does bin Laden’s slaying teach kids?

Excerpt:  “Out in the District’s feuding neighborhoods, a world away from the revelry around the White House, the killing of Osama bin Laden has simply reaffirmed the code of the streets — especially the principle of an eye for an eye.

“You get on the wrong side of the wrong people, you reap what you sow,” a youngster from the Woodland Terrace housing complex in Southeast told me.

In the aftermath of bin Laden’s death by a U.S. strike force in Pakistan on Sunday, I visited several parts of the city where meting out justice from the barrel of a gun is an all-too-common practice.

The difference is that while the United States celebrates taking revenge against its enemies, the gunslinger in the ’hood is condemned for doing the same.

(WTF?!) and this gibberish is only the beginning of the article.

So basically what I’m reading here, Mr. Milloy is you’re saying the President is advocating violence in our black communities with his decision to plan and have  Osama Bin Laden , the MASTERMIND behind the 911 attacks that killed over 3, 000 Americans.

You can read the rest of Courtland Milloy’s strawman nonsense, but the above statements by Milloy are DANGEROUS.

These statements are dangerous because as Commander-in-Chief, President Obama has the duty to protect and defend Americans, and he did so in issuing the command to take out a mass killer.  And the fact that Milloy is peddling this nonsense in comparing the POTUS’ decision to kill Bin Laden to that of street criminals, sends the message that it is OK for our black children to play bang, bang, shoot’em up, because of the President’s actions with Osama Bin Laden. The DANGER lies within your implied lackadaisical excuse for lawlessness amongst the black communities.

There are laws to protect All Americans, Mr. Milloy.  If you do the crime, you do the time.

What a thrill it must be for you, Mr. Milloy, to write this gibberish, and not think that smart-thinking folks wouldn’t see behind the disdain you have for our President, and utter disregard for the safety of our children and our communities.

As I’ve commented in another thread, if this woman were alive today:

Courtland M’s a slave-catching COON, of the highest order. He’s one of the slaves that Harriet Tubman would have to club over the head or flat out shoot him, because he’d JEPORADIZE the lives of hundreds, thousands of SLAVE’s lives to kiss the white master’s ass. THE.END.

  1. President Obama will not be anyone’s good “nigga”! He’s President of the country and he has to protect her. Some decisions will not be so pretty but it’s his job! He has to do what he thinks is best for the country. He cannot be anyone’s daddy! That’s the parents responsibility. Parents need to raise and be role models for their own kids!

  2. Ametia says:

President Obama worked with the Special Ops unit of our military and came up with the least lethal option affecting the least amount of citizens. He targeted Osama Bin Laden. He didn’t order air bombing the compound or taking out an entire village. It was targeted specifically for Osama Bin Laden. He had to GO.

  3. Lisa MB says:

I wasn’t the least bit offended by Mr. Milloy’s article.

My takeaway: How on earth do you ever teach our kids to do right we as adults are effin’ hypocrites?

The law on the street: Might makes right.
The law according to us: Might makes right and the U.S. is ALWAYS right.

We invaded a sovereign country. Thumbed our noses at the international community. Interpreted international law to suit our agenda. Had a pres justify torture.

Sounds a bit lawless to me.

Any wonder where our kids learn it?

    Yep, they have a choice.

    So did we.

    We chose violence.

We call it military action, but it’s violence. Sanctioned violence.

We teach our kids by our actions that it’s perfectly ok to demean, belittle, torture and kill those we don’t agree with.

And we somehow expect them to be different.

    Good luck with that.

Osama bin Laden contributed to the deaths of 3000+ Americans.
We started TWO wars with casualties in the 10s of 1000s.

And who exactly is the mass murderer?

I don’t condone what he did. But given how he saw the world, I understand why.

I don’t condone what we’ve done since 9/11 in the name of “justice” or in so-called protection of the American people. And given how we see the world, our actions are right in line with our beliefs.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I just know that violence never solved anything. And that violence begets violence. If we think this is over and that we sure showed “them,” we are kidding ourselves.

We are kidding ourselves that we are somehow “better” than this terrorist.

But believing it sure makes us sleep better a night and keeps us from taking a good hard look in the mirror at what we’ve become.

But then again, I just must be a ” slave-catching COON, of the highest order” too.

    • Ametia says:

LisaMB, I hear you on the violence, and agree that it begets violence, but what is the solution? I agree that the USA invaded a soveriegn country. War is a helluva ugly thing, and no one really ever wins.

When /if my daughters or grandchildren ask me why we went in and killed Bin Laden, I’ll do my best to explain the horrors of war, that no one wins, that the USA might not be the prettiest country when it comes to human rights and racial equality, but the devastation left by Bin Laden & Co which might have been precipitated by our government is something I will explain to them and not blink an eye.

I have no sympathy for Bin Laden, none. I lost friends in 911 attacks. I’ve endured conspriacy theories about our government planning and implementing the attacks on the Twin Towers. I can’t even imagine what other families are going through.

What should the President have done? Nothing, bombed the shit out of the compound, ues a bull horn and yell come out with your hands up?
I personally don’t see us as better than the terrorist.

I support the POTUS in his decision as Commander-in-Chief. And you do not have to accept the title of Slave-catching coon, not unless you want to.

      • I hear you on the violence, and agree that it begets violence, but what is the solution? I agree that the USA invaded a soveriegn country. War is a helluva ugly thing, and no one really ever wins.

I concur! I hate war. It brings nothing but destruction. I lost relatives in the war and my kids lost their good high school friend. It was heart-wrenching. The young man’s family was devastated and it broke my heart in a million pieces to see their pain and the pain on my children’s face.

But I support the Potus decision as well. It is his job to protect the country. He took an Oath & has to abide by it. Osama Bin Laden has to pay for his crimes. If you live by the sword, you die by the sword. He chose that life and had to suffer the consequences.

      • Ametia says:

Milloy’s game is his disdain for the POTUS. He tried to cloak it in his concern for children?

I want to know is what did killing Sadam Hussein teach the children of Iraq? Where’s Milloy’s piece on that? Doesn’t the Iraqi children deserve to learn about the horrors of war too?

Any sande adult willl be the first to admit they don’t like war, violence. They are both a fact of life and have been since the beginning of time. All of a sudden folks want to hold POTUS to a higher standard and teach the children that war is bad, violent?

How the hell is he going to command, defend and protect America, if he can’t call the shots that might include someone loosing their life?

We might not like it or agree, but it is what it is.

    • creolechild says:

“My takeaway: How on earth do you ever teach our kids to do right we as adults are effin’ hypocrites?”

Valid point, however, the responsibility for teaching our children lies with their FIRST teachers, who are the parents. In addition, when adults feel that it’s totally acceptable to be disrespectful to a man who holds the highest office in the land, whether you agree with his policies or not, isn’t that setting a bad example as well? And we’re not talking about creature worship or adulation or any of the other “excuses” that are currently being used to do so. And if we’re going to be honest about it some of these problems have existed within our communities for generations. They didn’t just suddenly materialize overnight in 2008 with the inauguration of Barack Obama. What have we as parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, and family friends been doing to shore up our youth and provide them with support systems, mentors, and role models? Are we actively involved in their education, their lives, the lives of their friends when possible, and our communities? Yes, by all means…look in the mirror! Because we’d all see areas where improvements could be made.

Furthermore, after all is said and done American culture glorifies violence so that is an issue that should be discussed as well, rather than dropping it at the feet of the President. WE, as a country, have allowed violence to become packaged and sold as a consumer commodity with sales that range in billions of dollars each year and permeates all aspects of American life: television shows, video games, movies, sports…you name it we have it. Where was the outrage as this was occurring? Where are the orchestrated efforts to change it? And good luck with that given how deeply embedded violence is in our society…

Putting that aside, I have a problem with “journalists” who fixate on the societal ills of communities of color, of which we have our fair share just like everyone else, but who NEVER bother to report on the thousands upon thousands of black youth who are engaged in positive activities and trying to make a positive impact on their communities by showing the little ones that they have other choices to make other than being caught up in the criminal justice system. Why are they INVISIBLE to the point that mainstream America doesn’t believe they exist? What kind of message is that sending to our young people? Think about that…

I understand your feelings war and the loss of life. I can only speak for myself when stating that I don’t believe we’re “better” or “different” than the people overseas in whose countries military conflicts are being waged. Men, women, and children have largely been reduced to one single term, “insurgents,” whether it is accurate or not. And they’ve suffered in ways that we can’t imagine. All I will say is that everyone has different life experiences which may influence how we think or feel on any given issue. Until we are willing to find the resolve to honestly discuss these issues and then act without demonizing, denigrating, and pointing fingers of blame, which masquerades as “constructive criticism” then nothing will change!

“I don’t condone what we’ve done since 9/11 in the name of “justice” or in so-called protection of the American people. And given how we see the world, our actions are right in line with our beliefs.”

Just so you know, not everyone in the U.S. views the world in the way that you’ve portrayed. Many do but just as many don’t. That said, the POTUS is sworn to protect this country, which is what he is attempting to do, whether you agree with the methods or not. It would be nice if we lived in a non-violent world, but we don’t. So, what would you have him do as an alternative to ensure that we’re safe, especially after there’s been an attack on U.S. soil and to prevent further loss of life? I’ll wait…

I also find it interesting that you failed to mention that the POTUS is attempting to change our foreign policy. Or perhaps you weren’t aware that countries overseas ARE noticing a change in our approach to foreign policy. We’re scheduled to withdraw troops from two military conflicts. Remember Egypt? And, yes, the U.S. intervened in Libya but should we have stood idly by and watched as another Rwandan genocide, where 800,000 people were slaughtered in 10 days, took place?

There are no easy answers for the complex times that we live in but you do what you can to make positive changes, one step at a time. That’s all that anyone can do, even the president…

As to flaunting international law, I don’t know who you were referring to but the recent military action did not–regardless of what the beltway pundits are now claiming. You may want to read this:

“The human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC argued that the killing risked undermining the rule of law. “The security council could have set up an ad hoc tribunal in The Hague, with international judges (including Muslim jurists), to provide a fair trial and a reasoned verdict,” he wrote in the Independent. “This would have been the best way of demystifying this man, debunking his cause and de-brainwashing his followers.”

      //

“A more thorough explanation of the legal basis was given last year by Harold Hongju Koh, legal adviser at the US state department. He told a meeting of the American Society of International Law: “Some have argued that the use of lethal force against specific individuals fails to provide adequate process and thus constitutes unlawful extrajudicial killing. But a state that is engaged in an armed conflict or in legitimate self-defence is not required to provide targets with legal process before the state may use lethal force”.

“The principles of distinction and proportionality that the US applies are …implemented rigorously throughout the planning and execution of lethal operations to ensure that such operations are conducted in accordance with all applicable law.”

He added: “Some have argued that our targeting practices violate domestic law, in particular, the longstanding domestic ban on assassinations. But under domestic law, the use of lawful weapons systems – consistent with the applicable laws of war – for precision targeting of specific high-level belligerent leaders when acting in self-defence or during an armed conflict is not unlawful, and hence does not constitute ‘assassination’.”

      //

“Many human rights groups have reacted with caution. “Osama bin Laden took credit for and supported acts around the world which amounted to crimes against humanity,” said Claudio Cordone, senior director at Amnesty International.”

@creolechild & Lurkers, bring your thoughts to 3 Chics, we welcome them! Any one with eyes can see that this is a Barack Obama friendly blog.

We love POTUS. We appreciate different viewpoints and debate, but will not tolerate disrepecting this President.

Thanks for visiting and come often! :-))

  5. creolechild says:

Milloy, remember when you said this: “I don’t mean to pile on with more criticism of Obama as a wimp, but a White House spin doctor to make him look tough after a pickup basketball game? Man up, Obama. Let us see you with blood on your teeth and fire in your eyes. Or does being the first black president mean you can never show yourself to be a man in full?”

President Obama’s manhood was never in question, except to individuals such as yourself who are obviously suffering from penis envy…

All the things you WISH you were–but aren’t. Jealous much?

Welcome to 3 Chics, Creolechild! Tell us how you really feel. Don’t hold back! lol

You know you’re right! Penis envy! That’s all it is!

Hey Southerngirl2! Thank you for welcoming me aboard. I had to edit that comment a few times because my momma didn’t raise me that way…but I swear I’m so tired of reading about people denigrating the POTUS.

It’s not to say that I don’t believe there should be no criticism because there will be areas where we disagree with some policy issues, but the constant disrespect is just ridiculous.

        • When Joe Wilson yelled “you lie” during the State of the Union address…it began open season on disrespecting the POTUS. Just watch… the “nigger” word is soon to follow. That train ain’t never late.

          • Ametia says:

Yes, folks like Milloy, Smiley, West, Simmons, Juan Williams they all but give license to the crackas to call us niggers. Of all the white men, Trump has come closet to calling President Obama a nigger, but he got COLD-COCKED last Saturday night by PBO. LOL Don’t start none, won’t be none…mmmmkay!

      • Ametia says:

You’re so right, creolechild. Policy differences and disrespect aren’t the same. We know the difference.

    • Ametia says:

BWA HA HA HA Welcome to 3 Chics, creolechild. See now you’ve just answered our question:

“What is with these black men in the press who have such a disdain for the President. Is it to garner attention, what is it?”

THIS: President Obama’s manhood was never in question, except to individuals such as yourself who are obviously suffering from penis envy…

Really, SG2; what in the Sam Hill was Milloy thinking when he wrote this piece? Either he doesn’t have good common sense and a firm grasp of real LAW, or he’s shilling for the man.

What would possess this negro to bacially equate the killing of a man who killed 3 thousand Americans to black folks who (commit crimes) in their communities that they too can possibly hide out in fake caves, mansions in the hood like Osama Bin Laden and get hunted own and killed a decade later. Just disgusting!
