UPDATE:
Mitt Romney Olympic Archive Still Off-Limits- ABC
More than a decade has passed since Mitt Romney presided over the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, but the archival records from those games that were donated to the University of Utah to provide an unprecedented level of transparency about the historic event, remain off limits to the public. And some of the documents that may have shed the most light on Romney’s stewardship of the Games were likely destroyed by Salt Lake Olympic officials, ABC News has learned.
The archivists involved in preparing the documents for public review told ABC News that financial documents, contracts, appointment calendars, emails and correspondence are likely not included in the 1,100 boxes of Olympic records, and will not be part of the collection that will ultimately be made public.
“We don’t have that stuff,” said Elizabeth Rogers, the manuscript curator at the University’s Marriott Library. The decisions about what records to donate to the library were made by Olympics officials before they were shipped in 1,100 boxes to the university, she said. “That was done before we got it. I just know it wasn’t a decision we made. Everything we have will be available.”
The Romney campaign said it has made no effort to prevent the archive from being made public.
“Mitt Romney resigned from SLOC in early 2002 to run for governor of Massachusetts and was not involved in the decision-making regarding the final disposition of records,” said Andrea Saul, a Romney spokesperson, in response to questions.

Who “Saved” The 2002 Olympics?
Snip
Mitt’s other experience was as governor of Massachusetts. Because Democrats passed a national health insurance bill which looks identical to the one Mitt passed in Massachusetts while governor there….a bill now lovingly labeled RomneyCare….Romney has steered clear of featuring his experience as Massachusetts governor. ObamaCare, fashioned after RomneyCare, to conservatives, is the proverbial mark of the beast. Better Mitt not bring that subject up.
That leaves the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. How many times have you heard this claim ….”Mitt Romney saved the Olympic Games”? In fact, of the mysterious dark hole of 1999-2002 Bain leadership, it has been said repeatedly and defensively….’Mitt couldn’t have been running Bain or overseeing Bain or even know what Bain was up to during those murky years when Mitt was still cashing a yearly $100,000 paycheck from Bain…..BECAUSE….he was buried in the salvation waters of the 2002 Winter Olympics. So covered up was Mitt, saving those winter games, that he couldn’t possibly have been doing anything with Bain during those years.
But did Mitt Romney “save” the 2002 Winter Olympics? And if he did….how did he do it? Long story short….Mitt took over the Utah games after a bribery scandal orchestrated by the Salt Lake City Olympic Bid Team became public. The credibility of the Games was on the line…..and Romney was to be the white knight rushing in to disinfect the place.
Ballon Juice: How Mitt Saved the Olympics.
lived in Athens, GA during the 1996 Games. There were some scandals, before, during and after the event, but nothing like the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002. It was a scandalpalooza.
When you think about scandal and the Salt Lake games, most folks think about how Salt Lake “won” the Games. It turns out that bribes were involved. When the news broke in 1998 there was “outrage”. Investigations were launched. Careers were ruined and jobs were lost. The FBI spent more resources investigating the 2002 Olympics scandal than they spent investigating the Oklahoma City bombings and yet very little came of it—sure, there were a handful of convictions, but the two Leaders of the SLC Olympic Bid Team were acquitted of all charges in 2003. Here’s a winner for you:
Snow Job
Thanks to Utah politicians and the 2002 Olympics, a blizzard of federal money—a stunning $1.5 billion—has fallen on the state, enriching some already wealthy businessmen
Oh the IRONY here… Mitt Romney hides his earnings in offshore tax havens, while we, the American tax payers fund entertainment and sports events that Mitt Romney takes credit and brags about “SAVING.”
Let’s recap Mitt Romney’s business experience that he claims qualifies him to become the 45th POTUS, shall we:
1. Bain Capital- SCANDAL, SCANDAL, SCANDAL! outsourcing jobs, offshore tax haven-swiss bank accounts, SEC evidence of Bain Capital leadership post 1999.
2. Govenor of Massachuestts- 47th in job creation when he left office- Romney Care–Well not so MUCH here: He’s running away from ROMNEY CARE! Now wants to REPEAL ACA- OBAMA CARE
3. 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics- claims he saved the games– More SCANDAL, lies, and fuckery!

Mitt Romney’s ’02 Olympics short on transparency
Despite pledge, records destroyed
By Christopher Rowland and Callum Borchers
WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney promised “complete transparency” when he took charge of the scandal-plagued Salt Lake City Olympics, a pledge that included access to his own correspondence and plans for an extensive public archive of documents related to the Games.
But some who worked with Romney describe a close-to-the-vest chief executive unwilling to share so much as a budget with a state board responsible for spending oversight. Archivists now say most key records about the Games’ internal workings were destroyed under the supervision of a staff member shortly after the flame was extinguished at Olympic Cauldron Park, after Romney had returned to Massachusetts.
“Transparency? There was none with [the Salt Lake Organizing Committee] when he was there,” said Kenneth Bullock, a committee member who represented the Utah League of Cities and Towns. “Their transparency became a black hole. It was nonexistent.”
According to Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul, “Mitt Romney resigned from SLOC in early 2002 to run for governor of Massachusetts and was not involved in the decision-making regarding the final disposition of records.”
