Mitt Romney’s Foreign Policy Trip: The Reviews Are IN!

Ann Should have warned Mitt.

What people are saying about Romney’s foreign trip:

Washington Post: “The assessments of the trip, which saw Romney visit London, Israel and Poland over the past week, ranged from scathing to resigned among the Republican professional political class.”

Tampa Bay Times: “The first rule for foreign trips by U.S. candidates for president is to do no harm. Romney failed that test in London and Jerusalem, and there will be more questions about his foreign policy skills when he returns home than when he left.”

LA Times: “On Monday, for the second time in five days, his offhand comments tore at the image his campaign had tried so carefully to construct.”

Eugene Robinson: “Romney wants to project bold confidence. Instead, he radiates blind certainty. All around the world, people can tell the difference.”

ABC: “One thing is clear: Romney’s foreign trip became a much more complicated endeavor than the photo-op the campaign was hoping for. The Romney tour is also a massive contrast to a similar trip then-candidate Barack Obama took during his presidential campaign in 2008. While Romney was greeted warmly in Israel, it was nothing like the crowds that greeted Obama in 2008.”

Washington Post: “From a tactical point of view, Romney has faltered at times in trying to prove that he has the policy expertise, personal skills and cultural intelligence to represent the country abroad.”

Politico’s Playbook:  “OY! THE WEEK FROM HELL: N.Y. Times A1 (1 col. above fold), ‘Romney Trip Raises Sparks At a 2nd Stop’ … WashPost A1 (4 cols. below fold, with 2-col. pic of Gov. and Mrs. Romney), ‘In Israel, Romney pleases crowds – but also confuses: Candidate says ‘culture’ explains Palestinians’ economic plight’ … Financial Times p. 5, ‘Palestinians hit at Romney’s ‘lack of vision’ on Middle East’ … USA Today p. 2A, ‘Romney wraps tour in Poland: Visit may play well in crucial swing states.’

Willard’s knowledge of foreign affairs includes his belief that the Soviet Union
is America’s No.1 foe… In less than 24 hours on his overseas trip Willard offended
President Obama, African-Americans, England, Israel and the Palestinians!

  2. vitaminlover says:

Ahhh, yes, Willard and his campaign are definitely imploding!

Romney: I “did not speak about” Palestinian culture

CBS News) Under fire from Palestinian leaders for recent comments suggesting that Israel’s economic success is borne out of its “culture,” Mitt Romney on Tuesday attempted to clarify his remarks, telling Fox News that he had not talked about “the Palestinian culture or the decisions made in their economy.”

“I’m not speaking about it, did not speak about the Palestinian culture,” Romney told Fox’s Carl Cameron, in an interview taped before the candidate’s departure from Poland. “That’s an interesting topic that perhaps could deserve scholarly analysis but I actually didn’t address that. I certainly don’t intend to address that during my campaign. Instead I will point out that the choices a society makes have a profound impact on the economy and the vitality of that society.”

At a fundraiser in Israel on Monday, Romney, speaking to Jewish-American donors, compared Israel’s economy to that of the Palestinians, noting a “dramatically stark difference in economic vitality.”

The republicans are still trying to polish this t*rd’s poor performance in every country he has visited, but I don’t think it will work out well for him in the end. The players in the MSM are commenting on Romney’s ignorance-laden comments and on his disrespect for the American journalists who are traveling with him. Even the Chinese have gotten in on the game. A Chinese official said that Romney’s statements in Israel damaged the ongoing negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. He also noted that Romney’s words could cause further military conflict between the two groups. I find it stunning that Romney doesn’t seem to know that the Israelis and the Palestinians were engaged in military conflict as recently as 2008 and 2009. There was no reason for him to disrespect the Palestinians while PBO is trying to negotiate peace agreement between them and the Israelis. That he did shows that Romney’s only concern is for himself, and he’ll do/say anything to make himself look good. Even Lech Walesa reported that Romney lacks charm. None of what I’ve cited concerns Romney because he’s tone deaf and lacks the ability to see the impact that his words have on anything/body, and I get the impression that he thinks that since he is very wealthy, he is exempt from having to answer certain questions about himself, his tax records, his policies, and his offshore accounts.
