State vs George Zimmerman in the Murder of Trayvon Martin (day 4)

Judge Debra Nelson(Reuters) – Prosecutors and defense lawyers in Florida searched for a third day on Wednesday for potential jurors unaffected by blanket media coverage of last year’s killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

Six jurors in Seminole County criminal court will decide the fate of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who claims self-defense in the February 26, 2012 shooting death of Martin. So far, jury selection for the trial has been moving at a snail’s pace.

Zimmerman, 29, is charged with second-degree murder and faces up to life imprisonment if convicted in a case that ignited protests and national debate about race, guns and equal justice before the law.

  1. Hey 3Chics

It was very disturbing to listen to the racist bigot this morning. The hatred she spewed against a dead child that she knows nothing about crushed my soul. She planned this carefully. She knew there’d be an audience. She wanted to hurt the Martins. The woman had no intention of being on the jury. She wanted camera time. If you notice she was defiant with Bernie right out of the gate but her tone was different when questioned by the defense. The woman is so blinded by her bigotry until she can’t be reasoned with and certainly can’t be trusted to serve on a jury. She has her own standards of guilt and innocence & believes in the right to carry a gun but talked about the alleged photo of Trayvon holding a gun means he was headed down the wrong path. Let that swirl around in your head for a bit. In her mind Trayvon has no rights but she does. It was disturbing to see that kind of hatred displayed publicly in a court of law. It’s hard to wrap my brain around it. God help this country.

SG2, if we were living in the first half of the twentieth century that woman would be getting her children dressed up to go out and view lynchings. That is who she is. People like her just suck air and eventually they die. I actually think that you have to be consumed with self-hatred and/or have some kind of personality disorder to be so cruel. Seriously. Either way, she’s as worthless as a tree roach.

      • Liza, my kids told me not to be so consumed and make myself sick over this. After listening to that woman it really did make my soul sick. I had to find a quiet place to deal with my hurt. If my soul was crushed, imagined what it did to the Martins. But one thing I KNOW..karma is not prejudice and the scripture does not lie. Proverbs 26:27 says “Whoever digs a pit will fall into it: and he that rolls a stone, it will return upon him.

I am just going to say it and be done with it. I am getting pissed that so many jurors are saying that they don’t thing race should have been brought into this case and that the protests should not have happened because this probably wasn’t about race. I am sorry, but I am of the opinion that these individuals have probably not experienced much racism in their lives. I tried to hide my black once…oh wait, that could never happen, so my race is a factor in everything I do regardless of if I want it to be considered or not.

Let me go through the list.

    Have I ever been…

    1. Pulled over for no reason other than driving while black? Yup, I was driving in the prestigious community that my super pastor father lives in. Sorry I drive a Kia. Yes, Zia drives a Kia not a Porsche. Guess I should go into ministry…

    2. Followed/Watched while in upscale establishments? Come with me one day and watch the peep show that ensues.

    3. Asked a crazy question about the texture of my hair or the styles of my hair? Of course, I have natural hair. It looks different, I know. But all the questions and non-minorities wanting to touch it…not so fun. Google the You Can Touch My Hair exhibit.

    4. Felt the effects of micro-inequalities professionally because I am anomaly in my profession and place of employment? Yes, I actually had a woman tell me that I was like a “unicorn”. She wouldn’t have believed that my job had hired a woman under 30 and black to do my job! Yup, said it right to my face after she touched my hair.

    5. I am going to stop at 4, because it’s my favorite number. lol

But my long winded point is that for many black people in this country, race is always involved. We didn’t ask for it to be considered. It just is, because we just are. I come from a multicultural family, it is not uncommon for restaurants not to include my in the party count going to dinner with my family because of my chocolate skin (I could have said brown, but I like chocolate much better as do most women lol). Trayvon would not have been even questioned had he had blond hair. The protests began because we all know that Fogen would have continued on his merry way after killing an unarmed teenager if the media didn’t start covering the protests and Ben Crump didn’t threaten to sue. And I know all of my caucasian, asian, dofeuufdjf, ejruefu, and oeure8rj, friends following this blog know that. Sorry, just had to vent folks.

    Wooosah.

        • Xena says:

I remember when Bo Derek came out with corn-row braids, and White women went crazy. I was in a store with “Bo Derek” braids when a White woman came up to me and said her daughter had a “special of $350.00” for braids, and she asked where I had my hair done. I told I did it myself and she looked very puzzled. So I told her, I’m bi-racial. My mom is bi-racial. We learn to braid hair before we started kindergarten. The alternative were hot-combs. That woman turned red as a beet in the face.

BWA HA HA HA She’s lucky she has digits, because had she touched my hair…. * chewsgum&sharpenssword*

      • Ametia says:

@Xena: When my oldest daughter was 5, I braided her hair and put the beads on it. Her hair hit the middle of her back. She took dance lessons. The first time she walked into the class, all the little white girls ran over to her and screamed with excitement:

“AWWWW, YOU LOOK JUST LIKE BO DEREK!!!”
My daughter gave me that WTF look, and ya’ll know the one I’m talking about too. LOL

NAW SON; BO DEREK TRYNA LOOK LIKE MY PEEPS AND ME.

My daughter got the message that I’d been trying to teach her. Some white folks will try and take all your ideas and claim them as their own. So she tried to school those little 5 year old girls. Tried to tell them that her mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother were braiding hair and wore braids before sperm was invented to bring those little girls into the world (SNARK) My daughter wanted to prove it to those girls, but I told her; don’t try, just BE who you are and your history. It’s a fad for these folks, it will pass.

      • Ametia says:

        LOL Don’t touch my HADE.

    • Ametia says:

SPOT ON! And you can’t tell the whiney, racist gay folks anything like this. Like I can’t HIDE OR CHANGE being BLACK. Nope skin-whitening doesn’t do it or count for me. Well, your sexual preference? YOU CAN HIDE THAT, when it suits and protects you from the hate.

When a young UNARMED teenage boy gets shot and killed, and the SANFORD POLICE DEPT. saw fit to send the killer home and notify the parents of said teenager later, like an afterthought, A DISCUSSION WAS MORE THAN NECESSARY.

It needed to be YELLED beyond the moon, the lowdown dirty, filthy, behavoirs of the SPD and Geroge Zimmerman. GTFOH

  7. Ametia says:

DNA Tests Prove Trayvon Martin Did Not Inflict Serious Injury to George Zimmerman

In order for George Zimmerman to be acquitted of murder charges, the defendant must show that he was in a fight for his life when he fired a fatal shot into Martin’s chest. This means Zimmerman must prove that Trayvon Martin caused his injuries in order to demonstrate that he fired in self defense, but as the Daily Kos points out, the DNA tests in the case do not support Zimmerman’s story.

Firstly, the DNA tests do not show any of George Zimmerman’s skin under Trayvon Martin’s fingernails:

A 2 to 4 week trial for GZ means he will not be taking the witness stand. If he did, it would take 2 weeks just to cross-examine him because of his numerous inconsistencies.

  36. Sybrina Fulton listens to prospective juror

Sybrina Fulton, mother of fatally shot teen Trayvon Martin, listens to a prospective juror in the trial of George Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder.

So far, 200 people have filled out jury questionnaires. Of those, 25 have been questioned and 20 have been moved into a jury pool that will eventually be whittled to six jurors and four alternates.

A pair of African-Americans got extra scrutiny Wednesday. But Zimmerman lawyer Mark O’Mara categorically denied the dense teem was trying to keep blacks off the panel.

      ****************
Bullshit! Then why did African Americans get extra scrutiny?

    • rikyrah says:

I don’t know how she and Mr. Martin do it. I don’t believe I could be in the room with my child’s murderer.

      • I know. I can’t imagine how she feels. And then to hear some potential jurors try to shift the blame on the victim? Lets continually lift up the Martins in prayer as they seek justice for their son.

      • Liza says:

I agree, I have never understood how the families (especially the parents) of murdered victims get through these trials. I think that most of them are just so determined that the murderer(s) will be brought to justice that they somehow manage to get through the trial with grace and dignity. Also, the pursuit of justice is really the one and only thing left that the family can do for the person who was murdered, and they know they have to do it. They need closure for themselves as well, because in some ways I’m sure that it helps them to go on with their lives especially if the perpetrator is convicted and has to pay a price for taking the life of another person.

To be murdered is absolutely the worst thing that can happen to us. You can hear it in Trayvon’s death screams from the moment he knew he was going to be killed until the moment that Zimmerman pulled the trigger and silenced him forever.

That is the really hard part, living with that, and it is probably worse than the trial.

    • Ametia says:

I can’t imagine what’s swirling around in Sabrina Fulton’s head and heart right now. God Bless her and Tracy.
