And tonight I scour through for news and happen upon this rambling and very personal and vicious attack on FLOTUS by some Zimbabwean asshole masquerading as a professor in some college in South Carolina. Some asshole ‘Professor’ Ken Mufuka. Has anyone ever heard of this asshole?
It’s bad enough that we as black women are endlessly disrespected. But when some bloody asshole from Zimbabwe migrates to the United States and not only spews about black women and promotes the most disgusting stereotypes about black American women, but specifically and very viciously targets the first black First Lady of the United States – where he would NEVER dare utter even a false word about any white woman – and especially not any white first lady, we can’t not do something about it…This idiot in attacking Mrs Obama pretends to know about Jim Crow and how to tackle it with the respectability he insists Mrs Obama and her first hand knowledge and personal experience of being black in American lacks. You see, he read a few articles on Booker T. Washington..
I will not post a link to the rubbish. I will post as much as I can legally. I refuse to give him hits or the spotlight he desires. Yes, he praised the President even as he maligned and utterly disrespected the President’s wife. The mother of his two black daughters who can read – and I’m sure, do read. But isn’t that what Mrs Obama has been up against? She’s been the fall-girl, the punching bag and the target for people who see her as acutely aware of her history and her blackness, and has not only lived it, but won’t whitewash reality which she continues to live to this day even as the First Lady of the United States, to make people feel more comfortable or provide a free pass or a red carpet lined escape route for people unwilling to confront racism and white privilege – and the ‘remnants’ and negative effects of this mindset and structure, that are as overwhelmingly dehumanizing and destructive..

“…United States President Barack Obama illustrates the idiom that opposites attract each other. While Obama is gentle, always thoughtful, looking before he jumps and the last man in the house to lose his cool, his wife Michelle is the strong overwhelming powerful black woman. One cannot ignore her presence.
During the last several weeks, she has used her lofty position, at graduation ceremonies, to lash out at the white society which has oppressed her people for so long. She has come out as less than grateful for her fate and position in the universe.
During the first election, I was one of those who wrote to the democratic committee to shut Michelle’s mouth, because every time she opened it, she made many white voters angry.
Every black man, she told the graduating class, has gone through struggles, hardships, failures and humiliations, but these are not to define them, but to inspire, a reminder that they were hurt, but also that they survived.
Michelle complaints bitterly that “so often, we hear a skewed story about our communities, a narrative that says that a stable, hardworking family in a neighbourhood like Woodlawn or Chatham is somewhat remarkable, that a (black) person who graduates from high school and goes to college is a beat the odds kind of hero.”
To white people who voted for Obama and made a black man president, the unkind cut was the following. “Wherever you go, you will encounter people who doubt your very existence; folks who believe that hardworking families with strong values don’t exist in (black areas) or in Detroit (a black city) or in El Paso (Hispanic) or in Indian country…They don’t believe you are real.”
To many whites this is a brazen attack on the very existence of white goodwill towards the children of Abraham. Surely, President Obama’s campaigns were financed by white people of goodwill. Surely, without a white mass which voted for him in New England territories, his election victory would have been a pipe dream.
Michelle has been compared to Booker T Washington, who suffered even worse humiliations than she did.
If Michelle had used her lofty place as a reconciler rather than a speaker of fighting words, she might have brought 100 businessmen with her to rebuild the school.
Washington was asked by a rich white woman to carry her garden equipment to her car. He assisted her with grace and a smiling face. When the white woman realised that she had shown contempt for the most famous black man in America, she was remorseful. “Not to worry,” said the great man: “there is plenty you can do to help my college,” he added.
The woman served as a benefactor at Tuskegee for many years till her death. Washington saw the necessity for truth speaking. “It is sometimes helpful for us to speak frankly to each other, but (the purpose) must be to promote friendship rather than enmity.
Michelle is a heroine among blacks, who believe that truth is its own reward.
Washington and Martin Luther King, in whose name she spoke, saw truth speaking only as a weapon, to promote friendships rather than enmity…”

Why oh why won’t FLOTUS just live in perpetual affectation and a perpetual Kumbayah-humming state? If only she wouldn’t make them so uncomfortable and justifiably angry just by being and existing? If only she could reinvent her life story so that her many untold and very lived experiences as a black girl growing up on the South Side of Chicago, and the many untold traumas she’s lived as a 17 year old black girl, making her way far away from home, in a very well-documented racist Princeton University, and since – including as the gracious but endlessly dehumanized first black First Lady whose being, marriage, children, and everything she holds dear has been consistently attacked, disrespected and desecrated? Maybe if she was born white, mixed race, or heck, bleached her skin to that acceptable hue? Maybe if she’d looked into the future and refused to marry her future famous husband, and instead steered him to, and insisted he marry a woman more ‘deserving of position and respect’ like a white woman, a mixed race woman, or even a well-bleached one? She might even get them to be less resentful of her and show her some respect and a bit of their well-documented ‘generosity’ by donating to her cause from their untold and inexhaustible wealth begotten of the white privilege structure. In exchange for her pretending that all the disrespect and attacks and death threats have really been rose petal showers from heaven.
Who knows? She might even finally win over and have the highly sought after respect and acceptance of not only the nice white people, but also too, that of the Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie’s slave supervisor Stephen types – incarnate in the likes of the misogynistic Zimbabwean asshole Ken Mufuka, whose permanently colonized small mind and certain inferiority complex, finds him still doing without being asked, the bidding of the kinsmen and descendants of those African colonial masters who he continues to play to, and desperately wishes to impress.

Bill Introduced to Repeal Giving Apache Lands to Foreign Mining Corporation
Last week, a bi-partisan group of lawmakers introduced a bill to repeal a provision in the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA),H.R.3979, that would give Apache lands to a foreign mining corporation.
Tucked inside the NDAA was a provision, Section 3003, that would transfer 2,400 acres of Apache ancestral and ceremonial lands, located in the Tonto National Forest, to Resolution Copper, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto an Australian-English mining company.
H.R.2811, the Save Oak Flat Act, was introduced on July 17th would repeal Section 3003. H.R. 2811 is sponsored by Rep. Raul M. Grijalva (D-Arizona).
Passage of the NDAA and Section 3003 has drawn fierce opposition from the San Carlos Apache tribe and other Apache tribes, who, along with supporters, have held mass demonstrations including many occupying Oak Flat. Oak Flat is traditional ceremonial grounds for the Apache.

Scott Walker, Promising ‘Bold Leadership,’ Faces G.O.P. Discord in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. — As Gov. Scott Walkerprepares to announce his campaign for president next month, promising to bring what he calls “big bold leadership” to Washington, as he did in Wisconsin, he faces a cloud over that story line: Republicans back home are in revolt.
Leaders of Mr. Walker’s party, which controls the Legislature, are balking at his demands for the state’s budget. Critics say the governor’s spending blueprint is aimed more at appealing to conservatives in early-voting states like Iowa than doing what is best for Wisconsin.
Lawmakers are stymied over how to pay for road and bridge repairs without raising taxes or fees, which Mr. Walker has ruled out. The governor’s fellow Republicans rejected his proposal to borrow $1.3 billion for the roadwork, arguing that adding to the state’s debt is irresponsible.
“The governor rolled out $1.3 billion in bonding,” Scott Fitzgerald, the Senate majority leader, said in an interview. “It’s not been well received, is the best way to put it.”

Jail starves mentally ill man to death, Sheriff is “sorry”

Sheriff’s deputies in Island County, WA forgot to check 25-year-old Keaton Farris’s cell every hour, and when they finally got around to looking, he was dead, starved of water and food. Alternet reports that Farris “had no prior criminal record but had struggled with a history of mental illness.”

Papania: Open carry situation could have turned into ‘violent misunderstanding’

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) – Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania held a press conference Monday afternoon to discuss a situation that had many Walmart shoppers terrified Sunday evening.
“That’s not normal.”
That’s what Papania said about two men who went into Walmart, Winn Dixie and Krispy Kreme armed with a shotgun.
While openly carrying a firearm in Mississippi is legal, Papania said this situation could have turned into “a very violent misunderstanding.”
According to authorities, the two men walked into the Walmart on Highway 49 around 8 p.m. Witnesses said the man holding the shotgun was actively loading and racking the firearm. Walmart does not have a policy about guns inside its stores. Panicked Walmart employees huddled in a safe room, WMC reported.
“If I were in a situation where I’m in the store shopping with my family and I see an individual loading a 12 gauge, and racking it, I’m not coming to the conclusion this is good,” said Papania. “While the actions of these two men are sanctioned by state laws, what they did negatively impacted our community.”
Papania said his department’s resources were stretched thin while officers and the SWAT team responded to this situation.
According to Papania, no one was threatened, no weapons were discharged, no one was shot and police officials and civilians responded to the situation appropriately.
Gulfport police will not release the names of the men, because they did not violate the law.
“If there was something I could have arrested these people for, I would,” said Papania.
Papania pointed out a question he thinks people should ask themselves as we move forward with the gun laws conversation.
“Gun laws should be such that it provides us security. As we look at this fact pattern, do you feel safer?”

President Barack Obama’s trade agenda scored a major victory today when the Senate voted to advance a bill to allow “fast-track” approval of large international trade bills.
The outcome of this key procedural vote had been in doubt as a group of 14 pro-trade Democrats weighed whether to continue their support of the bill out of concern that a related workers’ assistance package might not pass both chambers.
But after repeated assurances by GOP congressional leaders that the workers’ assistance measure will be adopted, 13 out of 14 backed the bill. The vote was 60 to 37, the minimum needed to pass.
A final Senate vote on fast-track could come later today, and it will then head to the President’s desk for his signature.

Yet racial hatred is still a potent force in our society, as we’ve just been reminded to our horror. And I’m sorry to say this, but the racial divide is still a defining feature of our political economy, the reason America is unique among advanced nations in its harsh treatment of the less fortunate and its willingness to tolerate unnecessary suffering among its citizens.
Of course, saying this brings angry denials from many conservatives, so let me try to be cool and careful here, and cite some of the overwhelming evidence for the continuing centrality of race in our national politics.
My own understanding of the role of race in U.S. exceptionalism was largely shaped by two academic papers.
The first, by the political scientist Larry Bartels, analyzed the move of the white working class away from Democrats, a move made famous in Thomas Frank’s “What’s the Matter With Kansas?” Mr. Frank argued that working-class whites were being induced to vote against their own interests by the right’s exploitation of cultural issues. But Mr. Bartels showed that the working-class turn against Democrats wasn’t a national phenomenon — it was entirely restricted to the South, where whites turned overwhelmingly Republican after the passage of the Civil Rights Act and Richard Nixon’s adoption of the so-called Southern strategy.
And this party-switching, in turn, was what drove the rightward swing of American politics after 1980. Race made Reaganism possible. And to this day Southern whites overwhelmingly vote Republican, to the tune of 85 or even 90 percent in the deep South.
The second paper, by the economists Alberto Alesina, Edward Glaeser, and Bruce Sacerdote, was titled “Why Doesn’t the United States Have a European-style Welfare State?” Its authors — who are not, by the way, especially liberal — explored a number of hypotheses, but eventually concluded that race is central, because in America programs that help the needy are all too often seen as programs that help Those People: “Within the United States, race is the single most important predictor of support for welfare. America’s troubled race relations are clearly a major reason for the absence of an American welfare state.”…

The answer is, 22 states at this point, although some may eventually change their minds. And what do these states have in common? Mainly, a history of slaveholding: Only one former member of the Confederacy has expanded Medicaid, and while a few Northern states are also part of the movement, more than 80 percent of the population in Medicaid-refusing America lives in states that practiced slavery before the Civil War.
And it’s not just health reform: a history of slavery is a strong predictor of everything from gun control (or rather its absence), to low minimum wages and hostility to unions, to tax policy.
Christie’s home-state support sinks to new depths

Every presidential candidate wants to be able to brag about the home-state support he or she enjoys. It makes sense – a policymaker’s constituents had an opportunity to see his or her work up close. The more those voters were impressed, the more a White House hopeful can ride a wave of popularity onto the national stage.
But as the 2016 race unfolds, a “home-state haters” problem is kicking in. Louisianans, for example, have soured on Gov. Bobby Jindal (R). Marylanders aren’t at all excited about former Gov. Martin O’Malley’s (D) presidential campaign.
And in New Jersey, the bottom has fallen out on Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) support. Last month, a Monmouth University poll put the Republican governor’s approval rating at just 35%. This morning, Politico reports an even lower number.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is still not winning any favor with Garden State voters, according to a Fairleigh Dickinson PublicMind poll released Tuesday.
Christie, who is in the midst of planning a presidential run, has an approval rating of 30 percent, below what is usually expected for a White House hopeful in his own state, where 55 percent disapprove of his performance. His numbers are down from the last FDU poll in April, in which 36 percent of voters approved of the job he was doing, compared to 50 percent who did not.
In case it’s not obvious, 30% is a dreadful number. It’s the kind of approval rating a politician will find difficult to explain away when he’s seeking a promotion.

Officers plead not guilty in Freddie Gray case as judge and trial date selected
Judge Barry G. Williams, a former city prosecutor and civil rights litigator with a no-nonsense reputation, will preside over the high-profile criminal cases against six Baltimore police officers indicted in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray..
Williams’ appointment Monday came as each of the officers asked for a jury trial and entered not-guilty pleas in writing — a legal maneuver that allows them to avoid appearing at court arraignments that had been scheduled for next week.
“We look forward to trying this case before Judge Williams,” Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said in a statement. “The defendants have all entered not guilty pleas, which is their right. All defendants in this case are presumed innocent, until, or unless they are found guilty.”
Defense attorneys for the officers either declined to comment or could not be reached.

Secret World War II Chemical Experiments Tested Troops By Race

As a young U.S. Army soldier during World War II, Rollins Edwards knew better than to refuse an assignment.
When officers led him and a dozen others into a wooden gas chamber and locked the door, he didn’t complain. None of them did. Then, a mixture of mustard gas and a similar agent called lewisite was piped inside.
“It felt like you were on fire,” recalls Edwards, now 93 years old. “Guys started screaming and hollering and trying to break out. And then some of the guys fainted. And finally they opened the door and let us out, and the guys were just, they were in bad shape.”
Edwards was one of 60,000 enlisted men enrolled in a once-secret government program — formally declassified in 1993 — to test mustard gas and other chemical agents on American troops. But there was a specific reason he was chosen: Edwards is African-American.
“They said we were being tested to see what effect these gases would have on black skins,” Edwards says.
An NPR investigation has found evidence that Edwards’ experience was not unique. While the Pentagon admitted decades ago that it used American troops as test subjects in experiments with mustard gas, until now, officials have never spoken about the tests that grouped subjects by race.
For the first time, NPR tracked down some of the men used in the race-based experiments. And it wasn’t just African-Americans. Japanese-Americans were used as test subjects, serving as proxies for the enemy so scientists could explore how mustard gas and other chemicals might affect Japanese troops. Puerto Rican soldiers were also singled out.
White enlisted men were used as scientific control groups. Their reactions were used to establish what was “normal,” and then compared to the minority troops.

This weekend, in the wake of last week’s racially-motivated mass shooting in Charleston, a Texas woman claimed on Facebook that she’d been brutally beaten by three black men outside a Texarkana Walmart store. It now appears as though she made the whole thing up.

In following up on the story, the Daily Dot learned that Walmart wasn’t aware of any violent incidents taking place at the store during the time frame in question, and that Texarkana Police have no record of the attack.
When asked why the Facebook post accusing Martin of faking had been removed, police told the Daily Dot, “We were informed that she is emotionally disturbed and that they are attempting to get her the assistance that she needs. We have removed the post to avoid contributing to her difficult struggle.”

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police said a 20-year-old woman who originally said she was robbed and assaulted at knife point in Bloomfield because of her political views made the story up.

The Condition of Black Life Is One of Mourning’
A friend recently told me that when she gave birth to her son, before naming him, before even nursing him, her first thought was, I have to get him out of this country. We both laughed. Perhaps our black humor had to do with understanding that getting out was neither an option nor the real desire. This is it, our life. Here we work, hold citizenship, pensions, health insurance, family, friends and on and on. She couldn’t, she didn’t leave. Years after his birth, whenever her son steps out of their home, her status as the mother of a living human being remains as precarious as ever. Added to the natural fears of every parent facing the randomness of life is this other knowledge of the ways in which institutional racism works in our country. Ours was the laughter of vulnerability, fear, recognition and an absurd stuckness.
I asked another friend what it’s like being the mother of a black son. “The condition of black life is one of mourning,” she said bluntly. For her, mourning lived in real time inside her and her son’s reality: At any moment she might lose her reason for living. Though the white liberal imagination likes to feel temporarily bad about black suffering, there really is no mode of empathy that can replicate the daily strain of knowing that as a black person you can be killed for simply being black: no hands in your pockets, no playing music, no sudden movements, no driving your car, no walking at night, no walking in the day, no turning onto this street, no entering this building, no standing your ground, no standing here, no standing there, no talking back, no playing with toy guns, no living while black.
Eleven days after I was born, on Sept. 15, 1963, four black girls were killed in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. Now, 52 years later, six black women and three black men have been shot to death while at a Bible-study meeting at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. They were killed by a homegrown terrorist, self-identifed as a white supremacist, who might also be a “disturbed young man” (as various news outlets have described him). It has been reported that a black woman and her 5-year-old granddaughter survived the shooting by playing dead. They are two of the three survivors of the attack. The white family of the suspect says that for them this is a difficult time. This is indisputable. But for African-American families, this living in a state of mourning and fear remains commonplace.

Peggy Fong Chen, who makes a living selling high priced real estate in Arcadia, says that almost all of her buyers are from mainland China. She also pointed out that almost all of her clients pay for their multi million dollar homes in cash. Many Chinese billionaires buy these homes along with exotic cars for their children who are often sent to American colleges. Others use these mansions for the less wholesome purpose of housing their mistresses. Whatever their reasons may be the Chinese elite are buying up American real estate to the tune of $22 billion last year alone.

Titanic music composer James Horner dies
James Horner, the Hollywood composer who wrote the score for the Oscar-winning film hit Titanic, has died in a California plane crash aged 61.
He is reported to have been alone aboard a two-seater single-engine plane which crashed north of Santa Barbara on Monday morning.
The two-time Oscar winner worked on three James Cameron films, as well as A Beautiful Mind, Troy and Apollo 13.
He won one Oscar for the Titanic film score and one for its theme song.
Actor and director Ron Howard tweeted: “Brilliant Composer James Horner, friend & collaborator on 7 movies has tragically died in a plane crash. My heart aches for his loved ones.”

If American racism were a thing of the past, nine men and women who went to church last Wednesday evening would be alive.
What happened in Charleston, S.C., is not unfathomable or even ambiguous. It’s a story much older than the nation, a story that began when the first Africans were brought to Jamestown in 1619: the brutalizing and killing of black people because of the color of their skin.
