THIS: I tend to agree with the President. That Confederate Flag belongs in a museum. But freedom of expression is very important, so I also agree with Senator Lindsey Graham who says that flag is “part of who we are” as South Carolinians. And I struggle like all of the Republican Presidential Candidates do with offending everyone who flies the confederate flag. I think individuals who want to display that flag should be able to hang it in the back window of their pick-ups for all to see. That way, the rest of us will know that they are Republicans and can avoid uncomfortable political conversations with them over dinner at Red Lobster.

for the LOVE OF… What kind of SHIDIGGETY is this?

Good Afternoon Everyone. Back from the funeral of my co-workers son. It was a celebration of his life, but still heartbreaking. There were so many young people there crying.

    • Ametia says:

It must have been extremely challenging to witness the grieving of your co-worker and his firends & family, Rikyrah. I’m sure your presence provided some comfort for them.

I agree with Ametia. I know your supportive presence at the funeral meant so much to your co-worker. I know she got strength and help by your being there for her.

  4. THIS ALL DAY LONG!

  5. Bree Newsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black woman, ooh, black woman Light me up, troubled long….

  6. yahtzeebutterfly says:

Yes, the President leaned into the microphone. I definitely heard his message: I will be lost if I continue to be blind. I will fail my opportunity given me by God’s GRACE to see, if I do nothing.

I have much push back and advocating work to do….that’s what the GRACE is for….God has guided me these last three years so that I am no longer blind.

Before the last three years I was unaware of the power of systemic and structural racism to do harm to the Black and minority communities. I knew history of oppression and suppression from the past but not the deep level of what was happening in the present.

Racial bias and bigotry needs to be rooted out from LE, government, admissions departments, job hiring and the workplace, the prison system, and on and on.

Every unarmed victim of a fatal shooting or brutal beating by law enforcement needs me to be stood up for.

So much other work for me to be done for poor/or not Black communities as far as schools and job opportunities…people need the same opportunities that I had. Inequality has to STOP in the justice system, school system, and the workplace.

    • Ametia says:

You better come on with that TRUTH, now, YAHTZEE!

    • Liza says:

      Well said, Yahtzee.

And one place we need to push back mightily is against our own mainstream media that I truly believe is the starting point for so much of the complacency and fear and ignorance among our citizenry. As long as they keep doing what they do, we are always playing defense, even with social media where we have more control.

      • Ametia says:

So true. For example, the media gave Sara Palin a platform to spew her hate, and she truly showed her RACIAL ANIMUS. And then the media turned on her, and perpetuated more hate. She is truly one IGNORANT citizen.

    • Rock on, Yahtzee!

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

      Ametia, Liza, and SG2,

Hopefully, thousands upon thousands of our fellow citizens will take up the call in a similar way.

People can no longer be willfully ignorant or claim blindness now that the way to justice and equality for ALL has been pointed out and the way to better opportunity for ALL has been pointed out.

Liza, you are so right about the media!

  7. rikyrah says:

I still can’t get past the President leaning into the mic.
    A surreal moment.

    • Ametia says:

POTUS went DEEP yesterday, DEEPER than he’s ever gone since his PRESIDENCY, for ME.

    • Liza says:

I keep thinking about that eulogy / sermon. I’m going to print a copy and keep it on my desk. It is deep, very deep, actually it’s layered. There are messages below messages.

One message that is not exactly subtle but yet not spoken outright is the stark contrast between the “alleged killer” representing white supremacy and the good, black folk who have historically found refuge, support, and grace within their religious communities. (“That’s what the black church means — our beating heart, the place where our dignity as a people in inviolate.”) Rev. Clementa Pinckney, of course, represents all that is good within these communities. (“What a good man.”) POTUS skewered white supremacy without dwelling on it, and very effectively.

    Good Morning Everyone
