    U.S. hedge fund managers pour money into 2016 race and Trump is a factor

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Major U.S. hedge fund managers are on pace this year to more than double the amount they gave in the 2012 election campaign, with independent fundraising groups backing Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican rival Ted Cruz receiving the most so far.

    About $47 million has been lavished on presidential candidates and lawmakers and the political action committees that support them by two dozen of the industry’s top managers in the first 13 months of this election season, according to a Reuters review of Federal Election Commission filings.

    Most of the hedge fund support going to Cruz and Clinton has come from a handful of people out of the two dozen managers studied.

    At least three NFL teams have reportedly ruled out the possibility of signing veteran cornerback Brent Grimes because of the way his wife acts.

    Grimes’ wife, Miko, is a total loose cannon. She has been known to threaten reporters on Twitter and make comments about players that lead to tension in the locker room. On Thursday, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole said he was told by three NFL general managers that they are not interested in Brent because of Miko.

Now going after every black and brown politicians probably greasing their hands with endorsements and promises of helping them achieve their own six figure level speaking fees….shameful.     State Sen. Catherine E. Pugh and former Mayor Sheila Dixon are locked in a virtual tie in the Democratic race to become Baltimore’s next mayor, a new poll for The Baltimore Sun and the University of Baltimore shows.

    Pugh, whose support has surged in recent weeks, is now favored by 26 percent of likely voters in the Democratic primary. That’s two points higher than the 24 percent who back Dixon, who has led the field for months. Businessman David L. Warnock, who has spent more than $650,000 on television ads, is in third place with 10 percent.

    “It’s a tight race between the two leaders,” said Steve Raabe, president of OpinionWorks, the Annapolis-based firm that conducted the poll. “Sheila Dixon has been matched and potentially overtaken by Catherine Pugh. People who decided recently are going toward Pugh.”

    City Councilman Nick J. Mosby was in fourth with 6 percent, followed by lawyer Elizabeth Embry with 5 percent and Councilman Carl Stokes with 3 percent. All other candidates in the crowded field of 13 Democrats — including prominent Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson and engineer Calvin Young III — garnered less than 1 percent.

    With seven weeks to go until the April 26 primary, there is time for the race to change. A quarter of Democrats said they are undecided. And even among those who back a candidate, nearly half said they are open to switching to someone else.

    During a Thursday morning radio interview, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) candidly explained that Senate Republicans would take a different approach to a Supreme Court nominee if a Republican president were in office and replacing a conservative justice.

    Johnson was asked on Wisconsin radio show “Morning Mess” about Senate Republicans’ refusal to consider President Obama’s forthcoming nomination to the Supreme Court. The host hypothesized that things would be different if Mitt Romney were in the White House.

    “It’s a different situation,” Johnson said. “Generally, and this is the way it works out politically, if you’re replacing — if a conservative president’s replacing a conservative justice, there’s a little more accommodation to it.”

    Johnson said that confirmation for a Supreme Court justice should wait until after the election.

    “Let the American people decide. It’s a very reasonable, I think probably the fairest thing to do,” he said.

Hillary Clinton, when she was Obama’s secretary of state, argued for an early and assertive response to Assad’s violence. In 2014, after she left office, Clinton told me that “the failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad … left a big vacuum, which the jihadists have now filled.” When The Atlantic published this statement, and also published Clinton’s assessment that “great nations need organizing principles, and ‘Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle,” Obama became “rip-shit angry,” according to one of his senior advisers. The president did not understand how “Don’t do stupid shit” could be considered a controversial slogan. Ben Rhodes recalls that “the questions we were asking in the White House were ‘Who exactly is in the stupid-shit caucus?
