That last sequence of new Roots was powerful.

Dropping this to remind you of the power of the original.

EXCLUSIVE: Staten Island teen dies from asthma while fleeing racist crew waving gun; ‘I’m gonna shoot you, n—–!’

Dayshen McKenzie died while running for his life.

The black Staten Island teen, fleeing what witnesses described as a mostly white crew shouting racial epithets and waving a gun, collapsed and died last week from an asthma attack.

“To me, it’s murder,” said Diane Fatigati, an ex-NYPD officer and 9/11 responder, who rushed to the aid of the dying McKenzie. “They were chasing him — that’s a crime. You’re hunting them because they’re black … You’re calling them a n—-r.”

Fatigati tried desperately to resuscitate the 16-year-old aspiring rapper.

Kansas Democrats Step Up Recruiting Efforts
Democrats running for every State Senate seat
    June 3, 2016

“The Kansas Democratic Party will field candidates in every State Senate district this year, for the first time in 30 years,” KAKE-TV reports.

“The Democrats announced Wednesday they also will have candidates in about three out of four state House districts. But the filing deadline apparently passed with no Democrat running for Tim Huelskamp’s seat in Congress.”

    Obama’s Anti-Trump Secret Weapon
    By Steven Waldman

President Obama just put Trump In a very-classy-and-beauitful-gold-plated box with his announcement that he now supports an increase in Social Security benefits.

If Trump supports the idea he pisses off mainstream Republicans at a time he’s trying to court them. If he opposes it, he annoys his own base of crotchety white seniors.

Most of the time when Democrats ruminate on how to appeal to potential Trump voters they think about income inequality, raising the minimum wage or maybe tweaking trade laws.

But that forgets one fact: Trump’s base is old. The latest Quinnepiac poll had Trump beating Hillary among those over 50 and losing among those who are younger.

It was considered a sign of his daring heterodoxy when Trump earlier this year came out against cutting Social Security. But Obama upped the ante, and Hillary has already come out for an increase. Trump already had some vulnerabilities because he had suggested privatizing the program in one of his books.

In this year of surprises, the newest wedge issue might be a golden oldie.

As far as Speaker Ryan coming out in support of Trump:

I will continue to say this. They don’t have POLICY disagreements with Trump. They are mad that he doesn’t use dogwhistles to hide what they want to do.

Snoop Can’t Criticize ‘Roots’ When He’s Serving Poisoned Kool-Aid Too

[Opinion] Rapper Snoop Dogg is boycotting the ‘Roots’ reboot because he says it makes Black people look bad. But considering the content of his music, can his criticism be taken seriously?

No charges in the death of Michael Brown
Now Feds are split over charges in Eric Garner case?

Why do we even have a Department of Justice?

    • Ametia says:

      and Jamar Clark!

    • Liza says:

If the DOJ cannot successfully prosecute the case of Eric Garner’s murder on video, then they are useless in this crisis. And that is mighty bad news, because success at the state level is going to be a long time coming, and it will vary from state to state, and may never happen in some states.

      • Ametia says:

Agreed. Eric Gardner was shown being CHOKED on video, barely sputtering out: “I.CAN’T. BREATHE.” While these wild, barbaric, cops continued the choke-hold.

  14. Here we go, folks! Got dammit!

Feds split over charges in Eric Garner case.
