Thursday Open Thread | Willie Nelson: “I don’t care” if my fans get angry that I support Beto O’Rourke

Musician Willie Nelson said Tuesday that he’s not bothered by the fact that many of his fans are boycotting him because he’s headlining a rally for Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) later this month.

“I don’t care,” Nelson said on ABC’s “The View. “You know, they’re entitled to their opinions and I’m entitled to mine.”

Nelson added the he’s been supporting Democratic lawmakers his entire life and that he didn’t know why this latest event sparked outrage from a contingent of his fans.

“Everybody has an opinion,” he said. “Everybody has a right to an opinion.”

O’Rourke, who is running to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this November, announced last week that Nelson would headline a rally in Austin, Texas on Sept. 29.

Rolling Stone reported that the appearance from Nelson would mark his first-ever public performance on behalf of a political candidate.

Fans quickly took issue with the announcement, with many posting angry comments on the singer’s Facebook page, where he had shared a post on his plans to headline an event for the Democratic Senate candidate.

“Open your eyes Willie!” one user said on his Facebook. “Beto is a Socialist who probably has lied to you. This is a real shame you support him.”

“I am no longer willing to watch that hippie guitarist who supports that … socialist running for Senate,” another user said on Twitter.

Nelson in a statement said he and his wife “share [O’Rourke’s] concern for the direction things are headed” in the U.S.

While Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in three decades, polls have continued to show that Cruz and O’Rourke are in a tight race.

  1. I am just in a state of surprise that Willie Nelson is still alive. I am sure that I heard he passed away. Mmmm that’s the internet for you.

When we all vote.. Thank you my historic FLOTUS.. you know.. you’ve always known..

I’d only add, beware the entire lot …media types, reporters, strategists, advisers, contributors, experts, former political staff and operatives etc..

No matter their 🙄 affiliation… the ones who always seem to have access and always ‘breaking news from their sources close to the treasonous buffoon, or the buffoon himself’…beware too the lean libertarians, the fake titled ‘progressives’ etc …they are all wishy-washy, mealy-mouthed shamelessly self-serving sycophants who’ll do and say anything for a tv gig and a dollar.. Some are ‘ideological’ in that steeped in white supremacy sort of way …and that is blind to party affiliation..

It’s amazing how when push comes to shove, just how often they’ll give a pass and multiple mulligans, when it comes to the treasonous buffoon (and always for his imported Birther 3rd wife), And just how protective, defensive they get on their behalf ….

At some points each day, the in-your-face Alt-Right like-mindedness of all of these folks unabashedly seeps through …and in those moments as they automatically close ranks and mind-bogglingly rally in defense of the treasonous buffoon, there is one protective goal: white supremacy – no matter how corrupt, mediocre, horrible, immoral, embarrassing, traitorous….and in those moments, there are hardly any discernible differences between say, Bill O’Reilly, Carlson Tucker, Joe Scarborough, Josh Barro, Noah Rothman, Chuck Todd, Mike Barnicle, Chris Matthews, Willie Geist, Robert Costa, David Catanese, Jake Tapper, John Podhoretz, Steve Kornacki, David Chalian, Sam Stein, Katty Kay, Mika, S.E Cupp, Kasie Hunt, Hallie Jackson, Alex Witt, Erica Hill, Alisyn Camerota etc.

      NAILED IT.

SHORT: When the RETHUGS are in power, burning down the country, the POLITICAL operatives PROFIT

AD that slob MICHAEL MOORE to the mix

      ALSO, TOO!

  4. eliihass says:

So, McCaskill’s taken a stand, what say you Manchin, Heitkamp, Donnelly…

    • Ametia says:

Not a bit surprised. He’s a slimy bastard. Bret should fret. He needs to be taken all the way down.

      • eliihass says:

That’s why they’ve hidden much of his records and have been trying to rush him through… far too many skeletons hidden behind that seriously contrived churchy, carpool, girls basketball coaching, ‘good’ dad..

The guy’s a creepy perv.. And even before we knew much of this other seedy stuff about him, we called it.. easily saw through the facade.. Besides the fact that he has zero professional integrity …if he did, he would’ve honorably insisted that Merrick Garland (a non-partisan centrist by the way!) who’s Kavanaugh’s intellectual and professional (and moral!) superior, and the Chief Judge of the court he Kavanaugh currently sits on … The guy whose SCOTUS seat was stolen, be given his fair turn at the court..

But entitled narcissitic sociopaths don’t know how to do integrity and honorable… They are all about their own personal ambition – no matter how premature and underserved …it all about their self-aggrandizement.. Until of course, their clandestine perverted activities finally catch up with them..

    Lookie here at Jenny Rubin

Republicans, be forewarned: Kavanaugh’s accuser has options
Ford has a powerful story to tell the American people.

    By Jennifer Rubin

“Ford can use the hearing to put the senators, who have behaved shabbily, on defense,” she wrote, before suggesting, “Ford has another option: Hold a news conference with her own experts and make the case directly to the American people. She can sit down for an interview with a respected TV journalist. She can say whatever she wants, make certain that experts are heard and even recount the much more extensive investigative efforts undertaken when Hill stepped forward. To make her case to the American people and convince them that she is sincere, honest and credible, Ford doesn’t need the Senate.”

    • eliihass says:

But there are hardly any ‘respected journalists’ left..

And now, the FBI might be feeling a bit weird and squeezed… seeing that somehow, the previous 6 supposedly thorough and high-powered background checks the GOP insist was previously done on Kavanaugh …was not quite as thorough after all..

Unless, somebody somewhere hid stuff that was dug up and passed on to them by the FBI..

  6. Liza says:

I heard about this a couple of days ago from a FB friend who lives in North Carolina. But haven’t seen anything in msm. It’s starting to come out now.

    • eliihass says:

And even more frightening, the fear that some of these dead animals might still somehow end up on kitchen tables of unsuspecting Americans..

  7. Our sweet sweet little Carson is here visiting this morning. 😍😍😍
