Friday Open Thread | They continue to try and kill these American Citizens

I told you long ago, when Hurricane Maria happened that it was the intention of this Administration to kill these American citizens on the Island of Puerto Rico.

Here’s the latest:

Puerto Rico faces food-stamp crisis as Trump privately vents about federal aid to Hurricane Maria-battered island

By Jeff Stein and Josh Dawsey
March 25 at 2:10 PM

TOA BAJA, PUERTO RICO — At the Casa Ismael clinic for HIV-positive men with severe health complications, the staff used to immediately change patients’ diapers after they were soiled.
But last week, clinic administrator Myrna Izquierdo told the nurses that had to stop. To save money, the nonprofit clinic, which relies on its patients’ food-stamp money for funding, will ask patients to sit in diapers in which they have repeatedly urinated, sometimes for hours.
The Casa Ismael clinic is short on funds in part because of cuts in food stamps that hit about 1.3 million residents of Puerto Rico this month — a new crisis for an island still struggling from the effects of Hurricane Maria in September 2017.
“We just don’t have the money right now,” Izquierdo, 56, said in an interview in the clinic’s sparse first-floor office, where a chunk of ceiling tiles remains missing since the hurricane. Izquierdo pulled out a chart with each patient’s name, annotated with the cost of his adult diapers for the month. “It’s very hard. It is so unfair. That cut is going to kill us.”
The federal government provided additional food-stamp aid to Puerto Rico after the hurricane, but Congress missed the deadline for reauthorization in March as it focused on other issues before leaving for a week-long recess. Federal lawmakers have also been stalled by the Trump administration, which has derided the extra aid as unnecessary.
Now, about 43 percent of Puerto Rico’s residents are grappling with a sudden cut to a benefit they rely on for groceries and other essentials.
After initially vowing to reject the food-stamp funding, President Trump has agreed to the emergency request to help Senate Republicans pass a broader disaster-relief package, which may be taken up for a vote this week.
But at an Oval Office meeting on Feb. 22, Trump asked top advisers for ways to limit federal support from going to Puerto Rico, believing it is taking money that should be going to the mainland, according to senior administration officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of the president’s private remarks.
The meeting — an afternoon session focused on Department of Housing and Urban Development grants — ended abruptly, and Trump has continued to ask aides how much money the island will get. Then, Trump said he wanted the money only to fortify the electric grid there.
Trump has also privately signaled he will not approve any additional help for Puerto Rico beyond the food-stamp money, setting up a congressional showdown with Democrats who have pushed for more expansive help for the island.

This is CRUEL.
And, I hope folks wake up to this fact.
These are non-White citizens, and so, in this Administration’s eyes, they don’t count. What is happening to the citizens of Puerto Rico SHOULD NOT be happening in this country. Period.

Once again, I will repeat, there is no middle ground here. This is the cruelty that his part and parcel of this Administration. There’s nothing here, in this cruelty, where people can ‘ meet in the middle’. They want to kill American Citizens…We do not.

I ask those Puerto Ricans on the mainland—are you registered to vote? Do you see why your vote matters?

The ‘liberal’ msm, fam.. rah-rah-ing for and declaring the ‘exonoration’ of a Russian asset… one who once called McKay ‘handsome’..

  2. eliihass says:

    Beware fam..

The ‘liberal’ mainstream media is right back at it ..all revved up for 2020 with their ‘new and I mproved’ white nationalist business model, and leading Americans by the nose and noose, straight into the GOP’s deadly embrace …solidifying their dangerous and illicit stranglehold on our politics and degraded democracy ..fiercely protecting, reaffirming, reframing, repackaging, normalizing, legitimizing white nationalism… white supremacy, white privilege, white entitlement at its most basest, racist, ignorant, dangerous, treasonous, best..

The brazen reintroduction as ‘reasonable, informed, strategic, relevant, indispensable’ voices of ‘wisdom’, brazen racists, white nationalists and white supremacists like Steve Bannon (fresh off his “we want him as our Dictator rally” and beamed in from Europe where he’s been hard at work currying favor, auditioning for his ‘power’ gig back, and collaborating with all manner of Nazi types to promote white nationalism and wreaking havoc via Yellow vests in France, Brexit in the U.K etc.)..

Beware, the seemingly ‘open-minded’, gay, New Yorker, drunken with white privilege trust-fund babies like Anderson Cooper – he of effusive “Can we all agree that this is a good day for America. The ‘president’ is not a Russian asset. We should agree and be celebrating”… a talking intentionally and insidiously burrowed into the psyche of the American people …sold as Mueller ‘complete exoneration’ by all manner of media …including print media like the Washington Post, NYTimes etc. based entirely upon hired flunky Barr’s 4 page ‘summary’ in lieu of a still unseen 300+ page taxpayer funded report..

Anderson Cooper, like Maggie Haberman etc., are the modern-day reincarnation of entitled beneficiaries and fierce protectors of white nationalism/supremacy as status quo …and in all of its most racist, wealth, relevance, power ideals and protectionism ..

Never forget too that like access-Maggie, Anderson Cooper, was the trusted family friend brought into the gaudy faux-gold-plated tower with the fake Renoir to help recast image..

Never forget …if you’ve ever wondered why a very white privileged billionaire trust-fund kid who will never ever want for money in a 1000 life-times, and with absolutely nothing to lose ..and who could easily take on and help topple the treasonous abomination …still ducks, slinkers and mealy-mouths, and has never really pushed back hard against the treasonous buffoon, kkklan and cohort..

Anderson Cooper who frequently, boldly, snarkily and condescendingly expressed his disdain and often felt the need to ‘take on’ the historic president, (and felt the upstanding, double Ivy League educated historic black FLOTUS was somehow ‘beneath’ him, because black..) –

If you’ve ever wondered … remember that Anderson (Vanderbilt) Cooper, of (‘fake news’) CNN, was who was entrusted with the exclusive sit-down softball at Mar-la-lago right after the Florida RNC debate …He’s who the treasonous buffoon (who’s still to this day, has never attacked Cooper) and vapid Birther moll trusted, and personally handpicked and invited into their ‘private’ NY space in 2016 – after the Access Hollywood tape release, to exclusively interview/handle with kid gloves (and cast as sympathetic, poor damsel – but yet, ‘tough’, “respectable”😂) the gold-digging Birther moll turned 3rd wife at the gauche ‘gold’-plated tower that all manner of ill-gotten, laundered and dubious Rubles built.. and against the backdrop of the fake/knockoff 2 Sisters Renoir painting they tried to pass off as the real thing (the one authentic and only original hangs at the Art Institute of Chicago) ..

Sympathetically lobbing softballs without any follow-up questions or probing. He basically framed her as an unwitting victim alternately of the media and of the women accusers. He continues to this day to defend, run interference and provide cover for her and him, all while reverential in his profuse use of sacred honorifics to address them both..

CNN boss, Jeff Zucker, treasonous buffoon New York pal cum ‘frenemy’, has been hard at work too staffing up CNN with all manner of right-wing nuts …including Beauregard’s former communication’s person as senior management and content folk, with CNN now skewing decidedly ‘right’ in its programming and host opinions..

Y’all need an escape from reality. I noticed that TCM is showing Steve Martin’s 1981 musical Pennies from Heaven on April 7. Pennies from Heaven is kind of a resurrected flop. Roger Ebert reviewed it in 1981 and he hated it, but a lot of folks have come to like it and most agree the musical numbers are really good. Here’s what Ebert said:

““Pennies from Heaven” is dazzling and disappointing in equal measure. It’s a musical with an idea, and ideas usually have been deadly to the musical, that most gloriously heedless of movie genres. The idea this time is that there was a great contrast between the grim reality of the Depression era, and the mindless song-and-dance of the era’s favorite escapist entertainment, the musical.”

One of the highlights of the film is Christopher Walken’s tap dancing strip tease. (Yes, that is sweet, hunky Nick from The Deer Hunter). Elaine (Bernadette Peters) is pregnant, alone, and abandoned when she meets Tom (Walken) who is a pimp. Then they start dancing to Cole Porter’s “Let’s Misbehave”.

I want to ask you about another controversial thing about your experience — one of the things that’s been swirling around your candidacy recently. I’ve seen some prominent feminist critics argue that you’ve had a bit of an easier time of it than a woman would.

The comparison is explicitly drawn to Sen. Warren, who has a similar reputation for being smart and conversant with policy details. In their view, you’re getting a sort of unfair free pass and level of attention from the media based on your identity, specifically gender and racial identity. How do you feel about this?

      Pete Buttigieg
Well, if somebody is pointing out that there are advantages — many of them unfair — that go along with being male in our society and in our politics, then I completely agree.

If somebody is saying that I should not compete because I’m a man, I don’t know what to say to that. And if somebody is saying that I had it easy, I would invite them to join the military and enter Indiana politics in 2010 as a gay person. See how easy they find it.
