Open Thread | The California Recall

So, this happened:

Called 12 minutes after the polls closed.

This was the first election of 2022.
They are going to have to revise the recall law. It’s undemocratic to the core.

Fancy being unabashed ‘stans’ for Pelosi, Biden, Clintons, etc. with over 200 years of cumulative political experience/elected office …and yet with straight faces, continuing to try to frame and blame the unelected historic black First Lady ..and an innocuous quote from a speech she gave in 2016… for the entire Democratic Party’s multi-DECADES of impotency, ineptitude…

5+ years after she mentioned fleetingly in her 2016 speech, how she and her husband navigate and guide their 2 young daughters through a harsh public spotlight, as parents ..and in the face of unprecedented death threats and attacks on their historic family, folks are still trying to pretend that she’s somehow responsible for the Democratic Party’s decades of political misfires, weak, botched, incoherent, foundered, shortsighted and mostly non-existent political strategies, redress…

Fancy trying to frame the unelected historic black First Lady for the political losses of the elected folk that you ‘stan’/endlessly praise as ‘savvy’ politicians…same folks credited for every single political win..

Fancy trying to frame and blame the endlessly dehumanized unelected historic black First Lady, for the opposition’s attacks on the 51 year old able-bodied adult son of the supposedly ‘savvy’ politician who’s been in politics for decades, and is now at the helm..

Fancy trying to frame and blame the unelected historic black First Lady for the ineffectual effort, weak/non-existent tactical response/defense/messaging strategies by an entire Democratic Party, its operations/machinery… and the Democratic administration helmed by the ‘politically savvy’ father who’s been in politics for over 5 decades..

Fancy blaming the endlessly dehumanized unelected historic black First Lady who was never ever defended or protected.. blaming her and not the ‘savvy’ politician father who’s been in elected office for well over 5 decades.. for the opposition attacking his 51 year old adult son and his predilections ..and the Democratic Party’s lack of a cohesive response..

Funny how the same folk who now sing the praises of the ‘savvy’ oldies who’ve been in politics and elected office for an eternity… and now credited with every ‘win’.. still run around blaming the historic black First Lady for the Democratic Party’s shortcomings, strategic inefficiencies..based on a single ‘quote’ from a 2016 speech she gave.. As if..

Same folk who curiously, have also tried to strangle her for all her elected husband’s perceived ‘sins’ as President …even as they absolve every other political wife/spouse, and said ‘savvy’ politicians who preceded and worked with her hubby.. heck, in some cases, they don’t even mention or hardly ever attack her elected husband.. even as they go all in on her..

If this isn’t seriously insidious stuff, and utter madness, I really don’t know what is..

And frankly, this isn’t going to end up well for Democrats…

Del. gives more evidence on efficacy of vaccines
Less than 1% of people vaccinated got the virus, with Moderna best of all.

By Erin McCarthy and Justine McDaniel (STAFF WRITERS)

Delawareans fully vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine have been the least likely to become infected with COVID-19, according to data analysis by the state, and less than 1% of people immunized with any vaccine later contracted a confirmed case of the virus.
The new data from Delaware add to a growing body of early research showing that the shots offer strong protection, even as the highly transmissible delta variant circulates.

Delaware’s numbers show not only that vaccinated people make up a small share of cases but also that they have a very low rate of infection. The post-vaccination infection, hospitalization, and case rates are better indicators of vaccine efficacy than the percentage of breakthrough cases, hospitalizations, and deaths out of a state’s total, experts say.

In Delaware, people who got the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine have had the highest post-vaccination case rate, the state reported. Of the 43,947 people immunized, 333 had confirmed cases, representing 0.76% of J&J recipients.

Among the more than 274,000 residents who received Pfizer, 1,385 cases were reported, representing 0.51%, according to the data analysis, and 589 cases were reported among the more than 190,000 people who got Moderna, representing 0.31%.

In total, 0.45% of vaccinated Delawareans had tested positive as of Aug. 30, according to state data, or 1 in 222 people. In New Jersey, it was 1 in 286. Data Pennsylvania released Tuesday showed that 1 in 17 unvaccinated people have tested positive in 2021 compared with 1 in 122 vaccinated people.

A handful of other states report highly detailed data on cases among vaccinated people, but Delaware is among the first to link cases to the specific vaccine the person received. State data help fill a nationwide gap, as the CDC tracks only breakthrough cases leading to hospitalization or death.

They are significant numbers to have, said University of Pennsylvania biostatistician Jeffrey D. Morris. Delaware is “one state; it’s relatively small,” he said, “but to have accurate data for that snapshot will give us a lot.”

People who do get infected after being immunized are far less likely to have serious illness, be hospitalized, or die, data have shown.

Police: Prominent SC lawyer arranged for man to kill him but was only grazed; arrest made

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A prominent South Carolina lawyer who found the bodies of his wife and son three months ago, tried to arrange his own death earlier this month so his son would get a $10 million life insurance payment, but the planned fatal shot only grazed his head, state police said Tuesday.

The shooter, Curtis Edward Smith, was charged with assisted suicide, insurance fraud and several other counts in the Sept. 4 shooting of Alex Murdaugh on a lonely highway in Hampton County, the State Law Enforcement Division said in a statement.

      Not true…

We are rather fortunate, relieved and quite grateful that the MAGATs consolidated behind a pathetic a-hole clown like Elder.. and from a ridiculously laughable field of beyond weak ‘options’…

Which was precisely what freaked sane folk out and had Dems rushing to mail in ballots.. where many would’ve just sat it out..

And even then, we still had to put up a fight.. and held our breath until last night..

If the GOP had found a seemingly ‘saner’, seemingly more ‘rational’, seemingly more ‘middle of the road’.. seemingly more ‘put together’…and whiter candidate.. who completely distanced themself from the orange buffoon, the results this morning would’ve been quite different..

Truth is, as seemingly ‘supportive’ as the raucous MAGA crowd were of Elder, there were many extreme right-wing, and ‘moderate’ republicans who still wouldn’t trade an extremely flawed white (D) guy Newsom for a black clown.. worse, one who no matter how much make-up they threw at him.. or last minute attempts at ramped-up aesthetic ‘edits’ and image ‘adjustment’, still fell far, far, short of ‘straight out of central casting..’ the only acceptable version of not-white..

If they find a more ‘suitable’ candidate to run in 2022.. and if Newsom doesn’t get his act together.. they just might pull it off..

To do that however, they’ll have to find a way to put Elder, who’s now bought into his own hype, out to pasture..

Elder has now fleetingly tasted that pretend-‘importance’ …complete with motorcades, klieg lights, cheering crowds.. and more attention than he’ll ever get in a 1000 lifetimes.. free meals, free duds, and all sorts of comped ‘luxury’, ‘perks’/freebies.. Everything handed to him and funded… by not him… paid for out of other people’s pockets.. aka campaign funds.. much of which he now ‘keeps’..

For a minute there, he was strutting about.. all bought into the hype.. he’d actually begun to believe he could pull it off.. you could see it written all over his face.. and his puffed up, exaggerated stabs at practicing playing ‘important somebody with a motorcade and security..’

      LOL..

Larry’s going to have a very, very hard time letting go… and he’s going to milk this fluke of a moment for much more than it’s worth..

But just as MAGA quickly moved their ‘see, we’re not racist’ tokens, Ben and Lacena (aka Candy) Carson, to the side.. to make way for their Aryan orange buffoon… if they find their real person, they’ll soon be casting deluded Larry right back to the fringes, where they found him..

Difference between the Carsons and this one is… Larry is a messy, messy, petty, grifting gossip.. with little in way of reputation, stature, relevance, money, position, to lose.. he won’t be going quietly.. so they GOP will have to shut him up.. one way or another..
