We knew that it was coming, but it still is infuriating.
I had a longer talk with Peanut on my lunch break. Told her that this decision was wrong on two levels:
Taking away autonomy for women over their bodies
Two- making some citizens able to access a right based upon where they live. We are all citizens of the United States and we should have EQUAL RIGHTS no matter where you live.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that guaranteed a constitutional right to an abortion, a momentous break from a half century of rulings on one of the nation’s most controversial issues. https://t.co/ofP0bUKzGF pic.twitter.com/dfqxrbkvDc

Pres. Biden: "This fall, Roe is on the ballot. Personal freedoms are on the ballot. The right to privacy, liberty, equality, are on the ballot. Until then, I will do all in my power to protect a woman's right in states where they will face the consequences of today's decision." pic.twitter.com/o0xvPxBJE3

Most Americans believe the decision to have a child is one of the most sacred decisions there is, and that such decisions should remain between patients and their doctors.
Today’s Supreme Court opinion will live in infamy as a step backward for women's rights and human rights.

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

Don't you dare blame Democrats today. You didn't give them a governing majority. This is on the people who didn't vote in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

Remember that we have never seen the America we’ve been fighting for. So no need to be nostalgic. Right on the other side of this unraveling is opportunity. If we keep fighting no matter what, take care of ourselves & each other, stay strategic & principled, & use all our power.

Gutting of Section 5 was not treated with urgency which foreshadowed the activist court the GOP were building. Call me a cynic, but this renewed faith in codifying Roe v Wade is just not it for me right now. Especially after most shrugged importance of judiciary in 2014 midterms. https://t.co/nZw1Ulvmrb

I've said this before, but soooo many people just didn't grasp the stakes of 2016. Young people especially. They just kind of assumed that the Obama years were the baseline and that was no way we could bo backwards, progress-wise. That was comically wrong. The GOP never stops.

This decision on Roe today is the real reason Mitch McConnell and republicans demanded more protection for Supreme Court justices last week. They knew this was coming. It was never about that guy at kavanaugh’s house.
— President Kamala’s Hand (Again) (@myronjclifton) June 24, 2022
Samuel Alito, who wrote the decision, was nominated by George W. Bush. Clarence Thomas, who wrote that he wants to go even farther, was nominated by George H.W. Bush. It isn't just the Trump wing of the party that brought you this today. It's also the Bush wing.

So..it's like ectopic pregnancies don't matter.. I'm sure everyone knows someone who has had one. This ruling today is frightening for women. Women that have these pregnancies are at risk of dying because the pregnancy is not viable. I knew this was coming..but whew…

I’m overwhelmed with anger and pain. This illegitimate Supreme Court filled with political extremists just struck a blow to American freedom. These folks won’t just stop at this right. As I reported back in May, for years Republicans on the Hill have tried to make abortions harder to get in D.C. The only thing stopping them from pushing a full ban was Roe. And with that now gone, a ban could well be an election away: https://t.co/qsfxizh8B1
— Martin Austermuhle (@maustermuhle) June 24, 2022
Worth noting that while abortions remain legal in D.C. for now, it would only take a Republican majority in Congress for that to change. Republicans have long stopped D.C. from subsidizing abortions for low-income women, so an outright ban wouldn't be unexpected.

Dahlia Lithwick notes that just 24hrs ago the Court found that the right to carry a gun on the street is so fundamental that it cannot be left to the states to sort it out but pregnancy can be cavalierly thrown to the states to determine is shocking hypocrisy.
