The Supreme Court Just Gave Trump Exactly What He Wanted
Even in light of this Supreme Court’s hard-right lean, Wednesday’s order is stunning: a massive gift to Trump that can only be seen as a partisan bid to help him avoid a conviction for his attempt to subvert American democracy. There is no other plausible reason for the justices to sit on his petition for so long, or to schedule arguments so far ahead in the future. Maybe the court could have justified hearing the case very quickly, not because it presents a difficult legal issue (it does not) but because it has clear national importance (and therefore should be ruled on by the highest court). But the court didn’t take that route. Rather, it played this exactly how Trump wanted. Its chosen course of action should set off very loud alarm bells. The court evidently willing to run interference for Trump—who, after all, appointed three members of the conservative majority that is surely behind this delay tactic.
The justices could have used this moment to prove their independence, which might have had the salutary side effect of shoring up their rock-bottom approval ratings. They decided instead to let Trump wield the Supreme Court as a weapon against Jack Smith’s prosecution. In a choice between integrity and cynical partisan loyalty, a majority picked the latter. Wednesday’s move is a harrowing indication that the court will gladly twist the rules to help Trump win reelection and evade accountability. It is a harrowing omen that the Supreme Court cannot be trusted to protect our democracy from Trump’s malignant assault.
I hope the Court hasn’t deluded itself that its very legitimacy isn’t on the line with this case. If they think that it’s not, they are mistaken.😠

President Joe Biden plans to announce Friday that the US will airdrop humanitarian aid and supplies into Gaza, according to people familiar with the plans.
A White House official told CNN earlier on Friday that Biden plans to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the efforts that the US is making to address the dire situation that civilians are confronting there.
Those comments are expected to come when Biden speaks ahead of his meeting with the Italian prime minister in the Oval Office Friday, according to that official.
IOWA HOUSE BACKS TRAVEL NURSE PAY CAP AMID CONCERNS

The Iowa House of Representatives voted to set pay limits for temporary nursing staff working in Iowa hospitals and nursing homes. The bill was passed on an 80-17 vote, according to legislative records.
The legislation, Iowa House file 2391, would prohibit healthcare staffing firms from charging more than 150% of the statewide average wage for nurses. However, the total amount would not just include the temporary nurse’s hourly wage but also include administrative fees, contract fees, transportation or travel stipends, per diems and any other costs such as overtime and taxes that a healthcare staffing firm is authorized to charge clients.
The industry is fighting the regulation.
“We’re still working on the bill in the Senate to either defeat it or mitigate the cap because the House version is not workable,” Toby Malara, VP of government relations at the American Staffing Association said.
“The 150% is just not a realistic number,” Malara said. It will make getting travel nurses into Iowa more difficult and will have a negative impact especially on rural areas, he added.

Thanks for reaching out.
You changed your voter registration on the last day of voter registration (Feb. 20) from your Chandler address to your new Tempe address.
Because early ballots must go out on Feb. 21, your Chandler ballot was already set to go out, and so it did.
Then we sent out a new ballot to your Tempe address when we processed your voter registration modification.
That’s why you had to redact out different lengths in the address (because they were sent to different addresses).
You’ll also notice that one of packet codes ends in “01” (the one to your old address) and one ends in “02” (the one sent to your new address). As soon as the “02” one goes out, the “01” packet is dead. Meaning even if you sent it back, it wouldn’t proceed to signature verification, and it wouldn’t be opened. That’s how we prevent people from voting twice.
So just use the one with your new address ending in “02” — that’s the only one that will work.
