Open Thread | In This Final Stretch ….Just One Week To Go….

Saw this on another blog, and I took it to heart:

“Americans will always do the right thing, after exhausting all the alternatives.”

Attributed to Winston Churchill

Been thinking about this.
We are one week out.

100 Days before the Election, Kamala Harris was given the opportunity to run for President of the United States.
Given 100 days to attempt to save democracy in America.
Completely the most Black woman thing I’ve ever seen.

Vice President Harris has been part of an Administration, which, according to The Economist:

Why don’t people know this?
Because, the MSM spent over two and half years downplaying everything that the Biden/Harris Administration accomplished, and spent every month trying to find a way to write RECESSION into the economic numbers that would come out.
They resented the competency of the Biden/Harris Administration, which is also part of why they completely ignored all the work that Vice President Harris did as part of this Administration.
Then, had the nerve, when the Vice President became the nominee, to ask
‘What has she done?’

My Peanut is 16.
In 2008, I watched, in January, as my mother, born and raised in the Jim Crow South, looked at her television screen in disbelief as Senator Barack Obama won the Iowa Caucus.
In March, Peanut was born.
In June, Mama was gone.
I cast my voter in November 2008, for both Peanut and my late mother.

Sixteen years later, last week, I was able to cast my ballot for a Black woman to become President of the United States.

I view the world through my lens of being a Black woman in America.

The blood of my ancestors runs in the soil of Mississippi and Tennessee.
I come from a people who were considered 3/5 of a human being, and counted as part of a family’s ‘ assets’.

We built this country, and did it for free.
So many across the diaspora, want to denigrate Black Americans ‘ for not knowing where they come from’.
I completely disagree.
By the time America became America, in 1776, Black people had been here over 150+ years.
We ARE America.
America is the country that WE BUILT.
And, no, we’re not going anywhere.
We believe in the creed of its writings.
Our mere EXISTENCE in this country, continues to force this country to work towards living up that creed.
And, THAT is why we are so despised.

We have a viewpoint of America that is unlike anyone else’s. We can see what’s possible in this country.
We experienced fascism in America – it was called Jim Crow. It lasted almost 100 years.
Why would we want for anyone else to experience it?
