Why Yes, “Establishment” *Is* a Slur
Posted by Proud Establishment Dem
August 17, 2026
Hats off to “moderate” David Crowley for saying out loud what we’ve known forever. From The Wisconsin Examiner:

After getting back into the race, Crowley faced accusations of being the “establishment” candidate who was chosen to defeat the democratic socialist candidate, Francesca Hong. He called that accusation a “slur.”
As he accepted the nomination, Crowley thanked Evers “for his friendship, his leadership and his belief that Wisconsin works best when working people come together to solve problems.” He also sought to put to bed the narrative that had surrounded the race as he thanked his primary opponents. He said that Hong’s campaign “reminded people across Wisconsin that there are no long shots when it comes to believing in a better future and fighting to expand opportunities to every family” and said he looks forward to earning the support of Hong voters. The narrative that the primary was ”a battle between the left and the center, between progressive and the establishment, between insiders and outsiders” was inaccurate, Crowley said.
“When I traveled across Wisconsin, I didn’t meet people who introduced themselves that way. I met parents wondering how they afford childcare. I met workers who want wages that keep up with the costs of living. I met farmers trying to preserve family traditions. I met small business owners trying to keep their doors open, and I met seniors who deserve security and dignity after a lifetime of work. We may not agree on every policy, we may not use the same labels, but we all want safe communities, strong schools, affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and a brighter future for all of our children.”
Crowley said Democrats must now unite around keeping “MAGA extremism” out of Wisconsin and called Tiffany the “real threat.”
And just like that, David Crowley has given the Normie Democrats the blueprint for this election cycle.
…………………
Which is why Crowley’s framing of it being a slur is exactly on point. In fact, it’s a framing that more Democrats need to adopt. Truth be told, there is no such thing as the Establishment. It was only used as a boogeyman by Bernie Sanders and his ilk to try and create some mythical force preventing themselves from being elected. The idea is simply the latest in a series of excuses weak “Democrats” make when they lose elections. First, it was George Soros. Then it was the “Establishment.” Today, it’s AIPAC. These insurgent movements that try to undermine the Democratic Party refuse to acknowledge that their candidates have lost a free and fair election (sound familiar?). When someone says that a person is an “Establishment candidate” it’s gotten to the point where that phrase has lost all meaning. It is a slur, and the more Democrats can say so to shut down divisive media asking them questions about it will only help their chances come November. David Crowley is simply setting the bar for Democrats moving forward.
There is no civil war among Democrats. DSA and its ilk are nothing more than the latest installment of fringe groups trying to divide and conquer the Democratic Party. But as we saw in Wisconsin, the “Establishment” candidate is frequently the one who matches up better against Republicans in the general election. That’s why the far-left has adopted the slur. Because they know that Democrats in moderate districts are the ones who are central to flipping the House and Senate. They know that these candidates are backed by prominent Democrats because they get things done. When an outgoing governor like Tony Evers goes all-in for David Crowley against a Democratic socialist, it’s because he knows what it takes to win a statewide election with a diverse statewide electorate. Despite what DSA believes, the vast majority of Democrats are more than happy to vote for someone who is endorsed by prominent members of the party because we respect our party elders. Where DSA sees government experience as a weakness and a liability (except for Bernie), the rest of us understand that when a senior statesman or stateswoman endorses a candidate, it’s because they believe they can both win and govern effectively.
Read the complete essay at the link above.
Yes, it’s a slur. Meant to denigrate regular, normal Democratic Candidates who have, more than not, spent years in public service to the general community.
I actually do believe that politics is a profession. And, if someone has done well in it -in service to the general public- that should be respected, and that resume validated when they run for higher office.

The Democrats could not stand by their woman who would have made lives better. A woman was the “man” for the job. You would have been in a better situation. The world is suffering because of the inaction of some and the ignorant hateful action of others.”

Earlier this week in Martha’s Vineyard, I had the opportunity to visit a home where my father stayed from time to time to write, reflect, and gather with other leaders in the struggle for freedom and justice.
Malcolm X and other prominent voices of the era also spent time there. To stand in a place that held those conversations, ideas, and moments of reflection was deeply meaningful to me.
I was honored to visit and grateful for the opportunity to connect with this part of my father’s journey.

A heartbreaking investigation revealed that Trump’s Bureau of Land Management is systematically rounding up thousands of America’s wild horses, then quietly selling them off to buyers who are shipping them to slaughterhouses abroad.
Before, the U.S. government rarely sold wild horses. But since Trump took office, government sales have more than doubled.
Slaughterhouses pay up to $750 a wild horse, the investigation found.
The Bureau of Land Management is nominally in charge of protecting the 73,000 or so wild horses who roam America’s public lands in the West. Under Trump, the Bureau is sending our wild horses to the slaughterhouse.

If it isn’t clear to everyone yet, you are witnessing the collapse of a nation:
Health & hygiene conditions are plummeting, with foods getting recalled almost daily for contamination.
Crumbling infrastructure, both civilian and military due to deferred maintenance as resources are allocated elsewhere.
Social disintegration, as the elites shift the blame on target minorities or made-up adversaries both domestic and abroad, to avoid responsibility.
International hostilities, paired wirh dysfunctional diplomacy is escalating towards the inevitable. Unsurprisingly, the nuclear option has already been suggested.
Overall propaganda shift towards the three basic tenets of mind control: Promises, Theatrics, and Scare tactics. The paranoia you’ve been feeling? Injected.
Focus on the real enemy.

I work the front desk at a small doctor’s office, and I wish people could see what happens on the other side of the phone. Every day, older patients call us confused.
They are told to use the patient portal, upload documents, check lab results online, fill out forms before the visit, and confirm everything through a link. Some of them do not know what a portal is.
Some do not have a smartphone.
Some have one, but they are afraid to click the wrong thing.
Last week, a man in his late 80s called about his test results.
He said, “Ma’am, I don’t mean to bother you, but the computer says I have a message and I don’t know how to open it.”
He sounded ashamed.
That broke my heart.
He should not have to feel ashamed for needing a human being.
Technology can be helpful. I understand that.
But when people who built this country are made to feel helpless because everything became a login and a password, we have gone too far.
Not everything needs to be an app.
Not every answer should be hidden behind a screen.
Sometimes people need a voice.
A patient person.
A real human who says, “Don’t worry, I can help you.”
Progress should not leave seniors behind.
Because one day, the world will move faster than us too.
And I hope someone is kind enough to slow down.
