3 CHICS WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT THE LIFE OF 17 YEAR OLD TRAYVON MARTIN! Was he a decent, smart, caring, compassionate, good student, athlete, good son, good brother?

CALLING NANCY GRACE OF WHERE IS CAYLEE ANTHONY FAME!!!!!!

NOT THIS BULlSHIT RIGHT HERE:

We want to read, hear, and see TRAYVON’s name in print and on the airwaves that portray him as his mother’s son, and how in his 17 short years on this planet , Trayvon made a difference in his family and other’s life.  You see,  Trayvon is not just another statistic senselessly and cold-blooded gunned down by another fearful coward.  Trayvon was a HUMAN BEING.

Let’s take a look at the headlines this morning at how the media dresses up the killings by white men.

ROBERT BALES THE SOLIDER WHO MURDERED 16 AFGHANS

NPR 3-18-12

For Suspect In Afghan Attack, A Praised Record

Notice how the media digs out the experts and examine the mental health of these men.  Why do they wait for anyone to snap and gun down 16 HUMANS IN COLD BLOOD!  Robert Bales is a COLD-BLOODED MURDERER.  The media needs to stop trying to excuse this white man for these atrocities.  Bales is not a decent, compassionate, caring soldier, father, and son.  NOT NOW.  HE MURDERED 16 HUMANS IN COLD BLOOD.

Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales is on the right

Remember Jared Loughner, the murderer who killed 6 people and wounded 14?  The media went on a week-long tour for this nutcase, claiming he was mentally unstable, dragging out unqualified hacks to attest to his mental status  Well DUH!!!!

Jared Loughner Is A MURDERER-OWN IT

Samples of media coverage on this MURDERER from Time Magazine.

Navigating the cluttered corridors of Jared Loughner’s mind will take psychiatrists months or years. We will likely never know all the reasons he took a cab to that Safeway on Jan. 8, paid with a $20 bill, calmly got his change and then killed six people and wounded 14 others.

Troubled?!!  HELL YES, Jared Loughner is troubled, Robert Bales is too.  Murdering humans in cold blood is  EXTREMELY troubling.  We don’t need to be reminded of it.  We’d like fair coverage of our Black boys and men when they are GUNNED down like ANIMALS.  We want their lives to be examined and prodded, and explained just like these CRIMINALS.

Christina Greene, the 9-year-old who was murdered by Loughner got media coverage, by Fox News of all stations. The nation grieved with this family and all the families who were killed and wounded.

Fro more on Trayvon Martin read here and here.

The point here is Trayvon Martin deserves NO LESS COVERAGE of his 17 years of LIFE. He is not the criminal here, and WE ALL KNOW THIS. I’m not trying to hear about the lives of the murderers and their troubled lives. Fuck that!

*And I don’t want to hear how President Obama is to blame for these murders of our Black boys and men for not speaking out.

This line of thinking is soooo fucked up. Yes because we all know that Presdient Obama speaking out is going to bring these hateful, cold-blooded murders of Black boys and men to a screeching HALT!  STOP THE MADNESS, FOLKS!

These men need to OWN THEIR SHIT!  Own your HATRED.  Own your RACISM.  Own your CRIMINALITY.

We need to keep Trayvon Martin and his family in the MEDIA spotlight, so that Americans will see and KNOW that our BLACK BOYS AND MEN are HUMANS, and we LOVE, CARE, HONOR and CHERISH their lives too!

Trayvon Martin, White America and the Return of Dred Scott
    Posted on March 27, 2012

For a while now we’ve known that there were significant numbers of white Americans who wanted to “take their country back” to some mythical period of the nation’s hagiographic past. We’ve known it because they’ve told us so, as often and endlessly as their lungs will allow.

Little did we realize, however, that for at least some in the white community that prior era of glory was not merely the too-often-nostalgized 1950s — with its misremembered innocence still fresh in their minds — but rather, the 1850‘s. Not 1957, the year in which the CBS television network gave us Leave it to Beaver, but instead, 1857, the year in which the Supreme Court gave us its decision in Dred Scott.

    But now we know.

It was there, after all, that the nation’s brightest, most accomplished and yet most ethically decrepit jurists reminded the nation that blacks “had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.” They could never be citizens, “entitled to all the rights, and privileges, and immunities, guaranteed by (the Constitution),” because the framers of that document (to whom the Court referred as “great men,” “high in their sense of honor”) had never intended them such. And much like today’s conservative theorists, who are equally enamored of the so-called “jurisprudence of original intent,” the highest court, beholden as it was to the insipid moral views of 18th century white supremacists, insisted things must stay that way.

    As the decision noted:

“[T]he legislation and histories of the times, and the language used in the Declaration of Independence, show, that neither the class of persons who had been imported as slaves, nor their descendants, whether they had become free or not, were then acknowledged as a part of the people, nor intended to be included in the general words used in that memorable instrument (the Constitution).

They had for more than a century before been regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations; and so far inferior, that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect…This opinion was at that time fixed and universal in the civilized portion of the white race. It was regarded as an axiom in morals as well as in politics, which no one thought of disputing, or supposed to be open to dispute; and men in every grade and position in society daily and habitually acted upon it in their private pursuits, as well as in matters of public concern, without doubting for a moment the correctness of this opinion.”

Debunking Right-Wing ‘Media Conspiracy’ Theory Of Trayvon Martin Story
    by Tommy Christopher | 12:39 pm, March 27th, 2012

For about a week and a half, the tragic story of Trayvon Martin‘s killing at the hands of self-styled neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman (who claims self defense) galvanized much of the nation in support of justice for the slain teenager and his killer. Then, President Obama made the dastardly choice to offer words of comfort to Trayvon’s family and millions of supporters, and suddenly, the right wing decided that the media was aiding Trayvon Martin in oppressing his killer from beyond the grave.

Luckily, all the latest right-wing guano has been aggregated in a one-stop shop by Human Events‘ John Hayward, so let’s clean the shelves. Hayward’s premise is that the media has conspired to make Trayvon Martin seem as sympathetic as possible, while doing their best to screw George Zimmerman. Let’s take this point-by-point.

    The Photos:

According to Hayward, the media has been using a photo of Trayvon in a hoodie, about which “there is suspicion that some news organizations are Photoshopping it to clean up the grain and lighten his skin.”

Hayward and his idiotic “sources” (blogger Dan Riehl, in this case) posit that the grainy image on the left is the original photo of Trayvon in a hoodie, while the clearer version on the right has been “Photoshopped” to make him look lighter-skinned, and in their minds, more innocent.

What Does Real Justice For Trayvon Martin Look Like?
    by Channing Kennedy
    Monday, March 26 2012, 8:51 AM EST

We’ve written a lot about Trayvon Martin in the last week. We’ve covered the Department of Justice’s investigation, the sheriff’s resignation, Obama’s personal remarks, the gun-friendly state laws at the root of the case, and the acts of solidarity and calls for justice from across the nation. (In fact, some of our own contributors have started a Tumblr for folks of color to share their “Trayvon stories” about racial profiling.)

And there’ll be lots more to report on in the coming weeks. For now, here’s a handful of thoughtful comments from the Colorlines.com community, about both the path forward and the long history behind Trayvon’s tragic death. Here’s what you had to say.

david ervin, on the ludicrous assertion that Trayvon was inviting suspicion by wearing his jacket hood up on a rainy night:

Hundreds of white men and women must have looked scary as hell no matter what style of dress, while bringing their family, friends and children to go to a lynching, for sport. Not to mention those bizarre KKK hoodies.

Celeste Winders on Obama’s statement that “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon”:

His statement wasn’t just that of a President, it was that of a parent. I have three sons- 3, 4 & 8 and they look like Trayvon. It’s heart wrenching. It makes me more afraid as a parent of ever letting my boys out of my sight. I have a teenage daughter who also looks like Trayvon. You would like to think that your teenager can walk to the store. The mom in us doesn’t want them to but they look at us, roll their eyes and accuse us of being overprotective because they are “almost grown” and it’s “just the store” so we let them go. Then they don’t come home. That is the reality that parents of young black children face everyday. This case is the reminder. President Obama understands that. That was what his statement was today. He spoke as a parent. As a parent I appreciate it.

Trayvon Martin, White Denial and the Unacceptable Burden of Blackness in America
    Posted on March 21, 2012
    Tim Wise

By now, you probably know the shameful details, but they are worth repeating, in any event.

On the evening of February 26, George Zimmerman, a self-appointed “neighborhood watch captain” in a gated, upscale Orlando suburb, shot and killed 17-year old Trayvon Martin.

    Because Martin was black.

And no, don’t even think of rolling your eyes at the suggestion. That is what happened, just as surely as so many might well be loathe to admit it.

Oh sure, he denies such a motivation, as does his family, but the details of the incident, now emerging from that evening leave very little question about it.

This was not, as we too often hear in the wake of such incidents, “a tragedy.”

This was not, as some would have it, “a terrible accident.”

It was murder, plain and simple. And it would be called such by everyone in a nation that had any commitment to honest language, which, sadly, would pretty much rule out the one in which Martin’s life began and ended, and in which Zimmerman continues to operate as a free man, unarrested by the police.

Trayvon Martin is dead because George Zimmerman believed his neighborhood needed and deserved to be protected from young black men, who could not possibly belong there, in his estimation. Never mind that Martin was in the community with his father, visiting friends. Never mind that Martin was armed only with Skittles and iced tea, while Zimmerman carried a loaded weapon.

A Seminole County grand jury, as well as the U.S. Department of Justice, will investigate the Trayvon Martin case, the racially-charged fatal shooting of an unarmed black 17-year-old in Sanford.

State Attorney Norm Wolfinger this morning released a prepared statement, saying he would have a county grand jury hear evidence April 10. His office, with the help of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, is reviewing and collecting evidence in the case, his statement said.

“I respectfully request that the public remain patient as this process moves forward,” said his statement.

Also, the Department of Justice said in a statement late Monday that it will conduct a “thorough and independent review.”

That would not be a murder or manslaughter investigation but a parallel one into whether the shooter, George Zimmerman, 28, violated Trayvon’s civil rights.

He was killed about 7:15 p.m. Feb. 26 as he walked through a gated community in Sanford, returning from 7-Eleven, where he’d bought Skittles and a can of Arizona Iced Tea.

In a cell phone call moments before his death, Trayvon Martin told a teenage girl he “was being hounded by a strange man on a cellphone who ran after him, cornered him and confronted him.” The girl recounted the call, which is confirmed by phone logs, to ABC News:

“He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man,” Martin’s friend said. “I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run but he said he was not going to run.”

Eventually he would run, said the girl, thinking that he’d managed to escape. But suddenly the strange man was back, cornering Martin.

“Trayvon said, ‘What, are you following me for,’ and the man said, ‘What are you doing here.’ Next thing I hear is somebody pushing, and somebody pushed Trayvon because the head set just fell.

The new information about the phone call casts further doubt on the account George Zimmerman, Martin’s killer, told the police. The Miami Herald reported Zimmerman told the police “he had stepped out of his truck to check the name of the street he was on when Trayvon attacked him from behind as he walked back to his truck.”

Of Matters Very Much Related: Trayvon Martin, Interracial Marriage, and the Perils of Being Black, Breathing, and Nearby

Scholars have long maintained that race is merely a social construct, not something fixed into our nature, yet this insight hasn’t made it any less of a factor in our lives. If we no longer participate in a society in which the presence of black blood renders a person black, then racial self-identification becomes a matter of individual will.

And where the will is involved, the question of ethics arises. At a moment when prominent, upwardly mobile African-Americans are experimenting with terms like “post-black,” and outwardly mobile ones peel off at the margins and disappear into the multiracial ether, what happens to that core of black people who cannot or do not want to do either?
Trayvon Martin was killed for the crime of being black, young, and “suspicious.” Like many other young black boys and grown men throughout United States history, he was shot dead for the crime of possessing an innocuous object (and likely daring to be insufficiently compliant to someone who imagined that they had the State’s permission to kill people of color without consequence or condemnation).

    His name is Trayvon Martin’
    By Steve Benen
    Mon Mar 19, 2012 10:06 AM EDT.

Melissa Harris-Perry did a segment over the weekend about the death of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, a few weeks ago, and it’s well worth watching, especially if you want to get brought up to speed on this story. The controversy surrounding this shooting is starting to garner national attention, and for good reason.

Though the incident is still under investigation, what we know at this point is gut-wrenching enough. Martin, a 17-year-old, African-American high school student with good grades, was visiting relatives in a gated community. A neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, saw Martin walking, followed him, and called 911 to report the teenager acting “suspiciously,” adding, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good or he’s on drugs or something.”

The police asked Zimmerman, who apparently had a habit of calling 911 with alarming frequency, to back off. He did not. Though the details remain sketchy, there was apparently some kind of confrontation between the 28-year-old Zimmerman and Martin, leading Zimmerman to shoot and kill the teenager.

Martin was unarmed, carrying nothing more than a bag of candy and an iced tea. No charges have yet been filed against the shooter, though an investigation is still underway, and the matter has been brought to the attention of the FBI. For more details, I found Adam Weinstein’s piece on the controversy really helpful, too.

I’d also note Melissa’s conclusion: “Despite Zimmerman having injuries consistent with self-defense, he also had a gun,” she said. “Trayvon had a bag of Skittles. His name is Trayvon Martin. When innocent children are killed, when their parents are left to wonder if their children’s lives matter at all, at least we can remember their names.”

That statement from the police chief is essentially saying it’s Trayvon’s fault for what exactly? Fighting a grown man who’s trying to accost him or chase him in an alley? Running from a grown man who’s following him with a weapon? Getting lost in the “wrong” neighborhood? Wearing a hoodie in the rain? Going to the store for some snacks? … what exactly was Trayvon supposed to do differently that day?

Well sir, I will step into Bill Lee’s shoes to explain why Trayvon is the real problem here. Young Trayvon made a series of mistakes that Bill Lee finds very inconvenient. He went out for snacks without ID. In a place where almost no one knew him. When he returned, he reacted appropriately to a bullying thug, not realizing the dude was packing. This skinny little kid – all of 140 pounds – knocks our boy Zimmerman on his ass. Then, pummels him for good measure. Zimmerman is grown man – 100 pounds heavier and 10 years older than Trayvon. He draws his weapon and – over Trayvon’s pleas – shoots him dead.

Now Zimmerman’s police buddies show up. They got a dead black kid in a condo complex that’s one-quarter black. They know this because they’ve averaged more than one call per day from the community over the past year. Oddly, they don’t think to knock on doors and see if anyone knows the kid. They also forget basic police procedure, fail to secure the crime scene, take evidence (shell casings!), impound Zimmerman’s vehicle or test Zimmerman for intoxicants.

Weirder still, they fail to notice that the skinny victim is in fact, a child. You’d think Trayvon’s obvious youth and small size (especially compared to Zimmerman) would give pause to a police officer. Also, children are more likely to go about without ID. (But you, Chill Chad Stanton, graduate of the University of Texas, are not in law enforcement!)

They do, however, accept Zimmerman’s story at face value, to the point of “correcting” statements made by witnesses. George is their buddy, their faithful little guard dog at the condo complex. He called them almost every day for the past two months. George caught a burglar once. It’s all good. George is an upstanding citizen. The kid is just another dead hoodlum.

Twenty-four hours later, it ain’t all good. In fact, it’s going south at light speed. The kid has no record. His parents aren’t absent, dead or on drugs. In fact, they show unquestionable dignity in the face of personal tragedy. Bill Lee soon finds himself wishing Trayvon’s parents would show some anger. A riot would be a godsend. But Trayvon’s parents possess wisdom that Bill Lee does not. They know that the struggle was won by renouncing violence, and that is precisely the path they choose.

Trayvon’s parents offer elegantly simple, highly sympathetic quotes and the press eats it up. This draws Huffpo’s attention, then TNC, then the Times is running one – no wait, two – stories on an innocent dead kid in Florida and Bill Lee thinks “it wasn’t supposed to go like this”. In his rage an bewilderment, Bill Lee resorts to instinctual passive-aggressive tactics. Damn those black kids. How dare they be innocent, when they’re dead.

A CHILLING RECORDED HISTORY OF POLICE MURDERERS

Trayvon Martin and Fear of Black Men: Why Aren’t We More Pissed?

I think everyone should be able to agree that freedom should include being able to walk down the street innocently without being shot. When it does happen, freedom should include authorities seeking justice for your death. While some are using the example of using drone strikes to take out people who are committed to mass killings of Americans (and it’s a valid question to be debated), few if any of those same people are using the same energy to confront a problem that is far more threatening to the freedoms of a great many more people, and which is far more common. Apparently, black men are so threatening to the (mostly white) populace that they are being shot with alarming frequency, and many are getting away with it. We all know “Driving While Black” is a crime in a number of jurisdictions. But “walking while black” apparently too often carries a death sentence.

One thing that bothers me most about the shooting of Trayvon Martin is that it doesn’t seem to bother enough people.

Ibrahim Rashada, a 25-year-old African American who works at U.S. Airways, once spotted young men cutting through the woods entering the complex on foot, and later learned items were stolen those days.

“It’s a gated community, but you can walk in and steal whatever you want,” Rashada’s wife, Quianna, said. They discussed the topic with Zimmerman when the watch captain knocked on their door late last year. Zimmerman seemed friendly, helpful, and a “pretty cool dude,” Ibrahim Rashada said.

“He came by here and talked about carrying guns and getting my wife more involved with guns,” he said. “He said I should have a weapon and that his wife took classes to learn how to use one. “I do have a weapon, but I don’t walk around the neighborhood with mine!”

Actually, he does not walk around the neighborhood at all.

“I fit the stereotype he emailed around,” he said. “Listen, you even hear me say it: ‘A black guy did this. A black guy did that.’ So I thought, ‘Let me sit in the house. I don’t want anyone chasing me.’ ”

For walks, he goes downtown. A pregnant Quianna listened to her husband’s rationale, dropped her head, and cried.

“We are taking a beating over this,” said Lee, who defends the investigation. “This is all very unsettling. I’m sure if George Zimmerman had the opportunity to relive Sunday, Feb. 26, he’d probably do things differently. I’m sure Trayvon would, too.”

ABC News has learned police seemed to accept Zimmerman’s account at face value that night and that he was not tested for drugs or alcohol on the night of the shooting, even though it is standard procedure in most homicide investigations.

The night of Feb. 26, Zimmerman made a non-emergency call to police before fatally shooting Martin, in which he told a dispatcher, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good, on drugs or something.”But law enforcement expert Rod Wheeler who listened to the tapes tells ABC News that Zimmerman, not Martin, sounded intoxicated in the police recordings of the 911 calls.

“When I listened to the 911 tape the first thing that came to my mind is this guy sounds intoxicated. Notice how he’s slurring his words. We as trained law enforcement officers, we know how to listen for that right away and I think that’s going to be an important element of this entire investigation,” Wheeler said.

    But Zimmerman was not tested.

Martin’s family is now calling on the FBI to take over what they say is a botched investigation.”We’ve got a fair investigation, it was the best we can do, it’s in states attorney hands now,” Sanford Police Department spokesman Dave Morgenstern said.

The longer they go without bringing in this murderous slug and charging him, the longer he has to WIPE OUT ANY EVIDENCE if he was indeed under the influence o drug/alcohol. We do know he ha a 9mm gun, because he shot an UNARMED Black teenage boy name TRAYVON MARTIN! JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN!!!! ARREST GEORGE ZIMMERMAN!

  39. Michael Vick went to prison for killing a dog. George Zimmerman killed an innocent unarmed black kid & he isn’t charged and goes home. WTFF

  40. What is so chilling is Zimmerman chased Trayvon down & shot him like a dog. But if it had been a dog, he’d be in jail. Ask Michael Vick?

  41. Ametia says:

When Caylee Anthony disappeared, Nancy Grace almost single-handedly decided for us that this was America’s Problem. For a good year, this was America’s Problem. This was America’s Problem despite the fact that, by the time Caylee’s mother was arrested and acquitted, there really wasn’t anything anyone could do about it. Black media leaders had to cover Casey Anthony’s trial, too. And Joran Van Der Sloot’s. And Amanda Knox‘s. The lack of reciprocity, particularly in cases with black victims, is stark and needs to be addressed.

The media won’t be able to comfort Trayvon Martin’s mother. It won’t be able to erase the memory of her son, the sound of his cries for help as he was being shot, a teenager. They won’t be able to do much about Zimmermann’s tragically flawed understanding of what a criminal looks like, or the violently distorted moral code that enabled him to I believe commit such a crime. The media can shed light, however, on what sort of legal system lets a man like Zimmermann free, and encourages others with similar understandings of the “shoot first, ask questions later” doctrine to continue thinking as they do, because the law has them covered.

And our broken criminal justice system isn’t a black problem. It’s an American problem.

That is an incredibly ugly statement filled with the kind of passive maliciousness for the victim and his family. That he is the police chief is frightening.

The Killing Of Trayvon Martin Is Not A ‘Black Problem’
    by Frances Martel | 1:39 pm, March 18th, 2012

As for coverage of the matter on television, the TV Eyes television transcription database shows that CNN has been on the forefront of covering this story since March 15– particularly Don Lemon on his broadcast yesterday. Among the non-CNN cable news networks, only MSNBC’s Al Sharpton, Martin Bashir, and Alex Witt, Melissa Harris-Perry, and Fox News’ Harris Faulkner having the distinction of reporting on the story at all. To date, the most thorough panel discussion on television about the matter appeared on Roland Martin’s Sunday program, Washington Watch, where Trayvon Martin’s parents appeared to tell their story:

“Most of the media is crying neither racism nor murder, saying next to nothing, though given that the online uproar began in earnest over the weekend, the next week will provide many opportunities to bring the story to light. As of now, however, the most vocal in bringing the story to light have been cable news tweeters like Blow himself, Touré, Goldie Taylor, and Roland Martin, among others.

Al Sharpton has announced he is organizing a rally in support of Trayvon Martin. Many black commentators began using a phrase that I had never quite understood before to describe the situation: “There but for the grace of God go I.”

  46. The Media breeds people like George Zimmerman by portraying young black Men & boys as criminals, thugs, “up to no good”, monsters. STOP THE MADNESS!

#TrayvonMartin was trying to flee, not fight. NOTHING in Florida’s self-defense law justifies Zimmerman’s actions. http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/self_defense.html #p2

    • Ametia says:

      THIS:

      Q. When can I use my handgun to protect myself?

      A. Florida law justifies use of deadly force when you are:

      Trying to protect yourself or another person from death or serious bodily harm;
Trying to prevent a forcible felony, such as rape, robbery, burglary or kidnapping.
Using or displaying a handgun in any other circumstances could result in your conviction for crimes such as improper exhibition of a firearm, manslaughter, or worse.

Example of the kind of attack that will not justify defending yourself with deadly force: Two neighbors got into a fight, and one of them tried to hit the other by swinging a garden hose. The neighbor who was being attacked with the hose shot the other in the chest. The court upheld his conviction for aggravated battery with a firearm, because an attack with a garden hose is not the kind of violent assault that justifies responding with deadly force.

CARRYING A SKITTLES AND ICED TEA DOES NOT JUSTFY DEADLYY FORCE, GEROGE ZIMMERMAN AND SANFORD FLORIDA POLICE DEPT.

The Southern Strategy birthed by Nixon, nurtured by Reagan, confirmed by Lee Atwater, and preached by Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin, Coulter, etc., has many converts. Zimmerman being only one of many.

  49. When our young black boys are judged as criminals for walking down the street, & gunned down, that’s NOT Life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness.

  50. Trayvon Martin’s murder has put a deep wound in my heart. Our black kids can’t walk down the street carrying candy & a drink without being judged as “up to no good”. ENOUGH!

KUDOS to MN Governor Mark Dayton!

Dayton vetoes gun bill, saying residents already have defense rights
Article by: JIM RAGSDALE , Star Tribune
    Updated: March 6, 2012 – 11:48 AM

He cited strong police opposition and said current law already provides for self-defense.
Gov. Mark Dayton vetoed an explosive self-defense bill on Monday, saying the lives of police officers could be at risk if citizens are freer to use their guns when they feel threatened.
The governor rejected the measure, saying Minnesota citizens facing threats already have the legal authority to defend themselves and their families. He also cited strong opposition by organizations representing police officers, chiefs of police and county sheriffs.
“When they strongly oppose a measure because they believe it will increase the dangers to them in the performance of their duties, I cannot support it,” Dayton said in a veto letter to legislative leaders.
Dayton added that, according to federal figures, there are more than 5 million guns in the state, showing that the “Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is properly being supported by lawmakers and law enforcers. …” He said state law and court decisions “already provide the authorizations for law-abiding citizens to use deadly force to defend themselves or others, either inside or outside of their homes, so long as that force constitutes ‘reasonable force.'”
