The email in Keith Cheung’s inbox was from a judge asking for a favor. The subject line: “Help!!!”
The sender was Wes Dalton, then an associate circuit court judge in Warren County. It was about a case in Frontenac Municipal Court, where Cheung was prosecuting attorney. The defendant was Dana Baker, 18, one of three teens who had been written summonses for illegal possession of alcohol.
Dalton’s email said that the 18-year-old was the daughter of “our connection” to Porto Cima, a private golf club at the Lake of the Ozarks, the resort area where the annual Missouri Bar Association conference is held.
“Her Dad is Wayne Baker (owner of Warrenton Oil and a —-load of other stuff),” Dalton wrote. “Can we make this one go away??? By the way, we’re hooked up for golf at Porto Cima at the Conference!!! (is no cost okay???)!!”
The email was dated May 2.
The police report indicates that a disposition of “nolle prosequi” was entered on the case the next day. It meant the daughter would not be prosecuted. The other two teens pleaded guilty to amended charges, paid fines and were ordered to take a three-day alcohol course.

Wednesday afternoon, the City of Ferguson announced that Police Chief Tom Jackson will resign effective March 19th. The city has expressed that the decision was “mutual” and Lt. Col. Al Eickhoff will act as the interim Chief until while Ferguson searches for Jackson’s replacement.
Chief Jackson’s resignation follows the Department of Justice’s probe into accusations racial-profiling by the department after the August 2014 shooting death of 18 year old Michael Brown and subsequent riots that ensued.

The Ferguson City Council voted 7-0 yesterday in favor of firing Knowles. He’s leaving. FCS decided to let him keep a bit of his respect by saying that it reached a “settlement” with him and by letting him say he’s resigning.

I think it’s good that Jackson is resigning, I’m surprised he lasted this long. And it does appear that the DOJ’s investigation and report has the potential to bring about some badly needed reforms in Ferguson’s local government especially the PD. But it bears noting that the culture of corruption that literally permeated the governance of that entire town has a direct link to the death of Michael Brown. Darren Wilson was no aberration, he is exactly the kind of racist white male they WANTED on their police force. No matter how many reports get written, no one is going to be brought to justice for the murder of Michael Brown. And this is the dark cloud that will forever hang over that town, that won’t ever go away.

“It is with profound sadness that I am announcing I am stepping down from my position as chief of police for the city of Ferguson Missouri.
