The Napa Train incident is merely another example of how little we matter in this society, and just how entrenched these destructive and ugly stereotypes that have been casually tossed about for far too long, have shaped the way we’re now treated by society in general.. Black women no matter their age or station in life are not deemed worthy of respect, consideration or chivalry…

Sans of course a couple of convenient beholden tokens – willing to be wielded as cover for racists – conscious and unconscious – in return for being ‘useful’ and tossed about as ‘noteworthy’ examples of unoffending ‘black person I know and like’. To be touted and elevated at every turn, and professionally and personally advanced in ways otherwise denied other black women…with the added caveat that where possible – and for maximum effect, they transform into that ‘more appealing’ bleached-brown versions of the cloying, saccharine-sweet, sex puss, pouting and valley-girl sounding white standard-

This general disrespect, mistreatment and disregard of black women is now so deeply ingrained in our society, that it’s become not only accepted, but normal…par for the course-

The negative and false stereotypes are so bad that it’s seeped into, and affects and instructs ordinary, daily interactions – including the preemptively hostile response to the older black lady, and the subsequent humiliating way she and her group was treated on this Napa train trip..

And somehow, it’s also become our fault…

Sadly, these destructive stereotypes have not only been perpetuated by white racists, but have been freely wielded to dismiss and put down black women for far too long – even by our own men who deem white women – including those who blackmail the likes of Terrence Howard for half of his earnings – as infinitely more deserving of chivalry, respect and regard, than black women in general..

And we’ve allowed it – because we thought it wouldn’t affect us personally – that we’d be fine once they got to know us and get to see that we are nothing like the stereotypes.

And it’s only gotten worse – and yes, it does in the end affect each and everyone of us…

It affects us all no matter our hue of black, and no matter how hard any of us have worked hard to ingratiate ourselves, tried to be validated and approved of as ‘different’ from those other blacks…

It affects us all even as we stayed silent as it was confirmed by none other than David Axelrod, that the story of our black First Lady – the first black First Lady, and most visible metaphor for 21st century black woman, wife, mother, daughter – was cussed out by the young white White House Press Secretary and others working for her husband, was indeed true. It affects us all when within months of their arrival in the White House, Toure, a mediocre, hollow, black-woman-hating, confused self-proclaimed ‘journalist’ with color issues, was dubiously utilized for a one-time New York magazine gig to do a ghetto hit-piece that opened the doors for others to insult, malign and freely disrespect our first black First Lady;

It affects us all when we erroneously assumed none of this had anything to do with us..

It affects us all even when we fail to realize like I experienced first-hand the other evening, that even our best California liberal pals who we assume to be like-minded and open-minded, are frankly no less racist than those who came out to see Trump in Alabama… They just used to be smarter and slicker about it, but it’s getting harder to not let the mask slip…

      What a delightful lady!

Her group was wronged. Yes, they were the recipients of racism! I hope they sue.

The company just admitted to libel, the women should sue them. And I hope that the women do not accept the company’s offer of a free train ride for 50 people. I would hold out for the cash settlement and take a real nice, long vacation.

Yelpers trash Napa Valley Wine Train that kicked black women off for laughing
    by Daniel Rivero

What should have been a fun outing for the 11 members of the Sisters on the Reading Edge book club ended in humiliation, after all of the group’s members were kicked off a train ride through wine country in Napa Valley this weekend.

The members — all black women — were removed from the Napa Valley Wine Train for laughing and talking too loudly as they sipped their wine. “This isn’t a bar,” one of the passengers who was on the train complained to the group, Lisa Johnson, 47, told the San Francisco Gate. “And we thought, um, yes it is.”

  6. Liza says:

The real problem here is that the employees of the Napa Valley Wine Train pandered to the racist white woman who complained, going so far as to humiliate the black women by escorting them off the train and calling the Napa police to meet them. There is more to this story that probably reflects very badly on the company itself. Companies engaged in tourism routinely get all kinds of complaints, but their goal is generally to make money and stay in business. The way they treated these women really seems contradictory to what you would expect from a company that is in the business of entertaining people.

They can apologize until it snows in hell, but they can’t make this right. The best they can do is clean up their act and change their written and/or unwritten policies toward people of color and train their employees accordingly. But there is not a damn thing they can do to make this right for these women who were treated so badly. Not a damn thing.

I wish people could get a better grasp on the fact that no one gets to go back in time. Whatever we do and say is out there FOREVER, the ugliness is cumulative, and the damage done can be significant.

    • eliihass says:

How indeed does one reverse constant dehumanizing treatment that does a number on the psyche of the victim, and essentially degrades them in the eyes of their audience and society in general – and for no reason other than the color of their skin…?

It’s this targeted demeaning and dehumanization that has been effectively used to discredit us as worthy, respectable human beings, even as wife, mother and in other roles in society…

APOLOGY ISSUED AFTER BOOK CLUB BOOTED OFF NAPA WINE TRAIN

The Napa Valley Wine Train is apologizing to a women’s book club after booting them from the train this weekend for allegedly being too loud. The incident has triggered its own hashtag — #LaughingWhileBlack.

In all the years this black woman’s book club has been together they say they’ve never been asked to leave an establishment.

“We are a group, we are respectful, we have been together for 17 years,” said book club member Lisa Rene Johnson. “We go to fine dining, which is what some people want to call the Napa Wine Train.”

She says they were as loud as any other group of 11 people would be if they were having fun on a Saturday.

So, they were shocked to be escorted off the train and met by police at the Saint Helena station.

And they were offended to see a Facebook post from the Wine Train, which has since been deleted. It read in part: “Following verbal and physical abuse towards other guests and staff, it was necessary to get our police involved.”

“That is absolutely untrue,” Johnson said. “We have never, we never touched anybody.”

PR consultant Sam Singer, has been hired as a spokesperson for the Napa Valley Wine Train, he says that post was a mistake.

He also says the police were never called in to make an arrest.

“I think the police were called to ensure that in case there had been liquor consumption that they were okay to drive home,” said Wine Train spokesperson Sam Singer. “That wasn’t the case, so it was unnecessary to have them there.”

Managers now want to make a personal apology.

“We’re trying to reach these book club members and these women so that we can apologize in person and set things straight,” Singer said. “We want to respect them and we want them to respect and enjoy the wine train as well.”

He said a guest is asked to leave the train at least once a month for being too loud or too intoxicated.

But this situation could have been handled better.

““I think the police were called to ensure that in case there had been liquor consumption that they were okay to drive home,” said Wine Train spokesperson Sam Singer.”

Sam Singer, paid consultant (liar), hired to lie for the company so they don’t have to do it. Yes, the racist employees working for the racist company called the cops to insure the safety of the racial others who they just kicked off the train for offending the angry, racist white lady with their laughter.

Keep digging that hole, Napa Wine Train folks, and keep pretending that you really aren’t the racist assholes that you are. It will all go away, right?

    • Ametia says:

      HELL NO!

And then there was the EGREGIOUS lie on Facebook, apparently put there by the company, attempting to thwart the social media backlash by crying “THUG,” a practice that works so well with young, black men.

I read that this is a family owned company. I think we know the type.
