Lis Smith who was all set to be newly elected Mayor DeBlasio’s Press Secretary – but who was let go after her sordid affair with Spitzer came to light…is shocked that a man who was in the dog house with his wife for having adulterous encounters – including with prostitutes…had been ‘cheating’ on her too with a 25 year old Russian prostitute… for the length of their 2 year relationship…The still married man at the time, who Los Smith had no qualms sleeping and sneaking around – and subsequently flaunting her relationship with – even as he was still married and should have been doing everything and however long it took, to win back his wife – who he was still living with by the way…Lis is shocked that that saint of a man Spitzer – who only had eyes for her – was actually cheating on her with an even younger woman..

My wise father always said that if more men would look inward and fully invest the same effort, time and energy on their wife and marriage that they willingly expend on the random girlfriend and next woman they court after their frustrated wife leaves them, there’d be lots of happy marriages and no divorce…How is it that some of these men never find time to romance their wife, but suddenly find all the time in the world to court, romance and shower the random, underserving girlfriend who’s invested absolutely nothing, with the time and attention and everything else they denied their wife…

When Jindal and Brownback agree, be forewarned

As things stand, there are 31 Republican governors currently in office. One of them, Ohio’s John Kasich, is running for president. Another, Alabama’s Robert Bentley, has endorsed Kasich.
Other than these two, before this week, the remaining 29 GOP governors were officially neutral – some backed presidential candidates who are no longer in the race, some have remained on the sidelines*.That changed this week, however, when Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) got off the fence and threw his support to Marco Rubio.
The senator welcomed the support, but maybe he shouldn’t have. By most fair measures, Brownback is one of the nation’s least successful governors: his radical economic experiment has failed miserably, and recent polling found Brownback less popular than President Obama in of the nation’s most ruby-red states.
Perhaps the only thing scarier than a national candidate supported by Brownback would be a national candidate backed by former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R). Oh wait.
It’s been almost a week since Marco Rubio called Bobby Jindal “one of the best governors in America,” so you should have stopped laughing by now.
Rubio could not possibly have been serious, could he? If a potential leader of the Western world thinks the Jindal administration provided an example worth emulating, then we had better stock up with survival rations and hole up in the wilds.
In the wake of Jindal’s epic, cringe-worthy failures in Louisiana, the state is struggling through fiscal and budget crises that appear almost beyond repair.

Earlier this morning I was listening to Pete Williams on MSNBC saying there’s basically precedent on both sides for what the Republicans are now trying to do: block the President from making a Supreme Court nomination at the beginning of the last year of his term, and that the GOP has plenty of precedent on its side. That is frankly an astonishing claim, with virtually no history to support it. It is also a sobering example of how successful Republicans are usually and are now at working the mainstream media to normalize what are in fact unprecedented actions.
However, I think, to frame this conversation, it is important to note a critical point: it is really only in the last 50 years and even in the last 40 years that Supreme Court nominations have had any relationship to what we are familiar with today. Basically, most people simply didn’t care that much as long as the nominee was broadly qualified in judicial terms. In one notable or even notorious example, Justice Brennan, who turned out to be an extremely influential liberal Justice, was nominated in a recess appointment in late 1956. When he came up for a hearing, it went on for only a few hours over two days. The questions focused mainly on whether he, as a Catholic, could be loyalty to the constitution rather than the Pope and then a series of questions from Senator Joe McCarthy about American Communists.

Bork example offers little help to Republicans

Senate Republicans know exactly what they want to do: maintain a blockade against any President Obama nominee for the Supreme Court. What GOP senators don’t know is how to defend their scheme.
I received an email yesterday from a conservative reader responding to a piece on Republicans abandoning traditional norms with their radical tactics. His response read, “Two words: Robert Bork.” As Media Matters’ Eric Boehlert noted, there’s apparently a lot of this going around.
“Democrats have been blowing up the appointment process piecemeal since they turned Judge Robert Bork’s last name into a verb back in 1987,” wrote Jonah Goldberg in the Los Angeles Times, in a column about the fight over replacing Scalia.
“Look at what the Democrats have done in poisoning the well, particularly on judicial nominations, stretching back to 1987 and the character assassination against Robert Bork,” complained Townhall political editor Guy Benson on Fox News.
The problem with the comparison is that the two examples just don’t have much in common – or at least not as much as Republicans and their allies would like to believe.
As longtime readers may recall, Bork was a Reagan nominee for the Supreme Court in 1987, and he became one of the most controversial choices in American history. Shortly after the president’s announcement, Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) delivered a famous condemnation on the Senate floor: “Robert Bork’s America is a land in which women would be forced into back alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, school children could not be taught about evolution, writers and artist could be censured at the whim of government.”
It was a stinging indictment, based largely on fact. Bork, who developed an unfortunate reputation stemming from his role in Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre” in 1973, was on record defending Jim Crow-era poll taxes, condemning portions of the Civil Rights Act banning discrimination in public accommodations, and arguing against extending the equal protection of the 14th Amendment to women.
As we discussed several years ago, the ensuing fight marked a turning point in the confirmation wars. It was during consideration of Bork that senators largely decided it wasn’t enough to merely consider a Supreme Court nominee’s qualifications; they also had to consider whether he or she was ideologically and temperamentally suited for the bench.
In Bork’s case, it was a test he failed. When his nomination reached the Senate floor, 58 senators, including six Republicans, voted to reject him. (After the vote, Strom Thurmond, of all people, urged the Reagan White House to nominate someone less “controversial.”) The Republican president soon after nominated Anthony Kennedy, who was confirmed by the Democratic-led Senate, 97 to 0.

Obama To Meet With Civil Rights, Black Lives Matter Activists
The White House told BuzzFeed News that President Obama will host a landmark meeting with activists from the Black Lives Matter and civil rights movements on Thursday. Icons like Wade Henderson and John Lewis will meet with movement leaders like Brittany Packnett, Aislinn Pulley and DeRay Mckesson.

WASHINGTON — President Obama will meet with two generations of civil rights leaders on Thursday afternoon, BuzzFeed News has learned.
Obama will convene leaders from the two generations of civil rights activists in the Roosevelt Room. The attendees will attend the Black History Month reception with the the president and First Lady, the White House said. Attorney General Loretta Lynch will also be in attendance.
“On Thursday afternoon, President Obama will meet with a group of civil rights leaders prior to the annual White House Black History Month reception to discuss a range of issues including the Administration’s efforts on criminal justice reform, building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve and the president’s priorities during his final year in office,” a senior administration official told BuzzFeed News in an email.
A White House official said Obama — a bridge between the generations of leaders — will preside over the conversation between the leaders and members of his administration.

Afterwards, Clinton delivered remarks at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. She said ending racial inequality would be “the mission” of her presidency.

President Obama’s cabinet was billed a ‘team of rivals’ for good reason…being appointed even to sensitive, critically important roles, was never an indication of how close – or how trustworthy, or how highly the President thought anyone…
For those who keep running around confusing those who weren’t paying attention or who just aren’t into politics….the President did not appoint Hillary SoS because she was a ‘dear, trusted friend’…it all boils down to wheeling and dealing…and extracting concessions..
Many of those President Obama nominated and appointed to his Cabinet – including to top, sensitive posts – Defense Secretaries – Bob Gates, Leon Panetta – and even the current SoD, Ash Carter, have not exactly been trustworthy or big fans of the President – and they have been critical and contemptuous of the President in their post-office memoirs…while being very complimentary of Hillary, curiously…Who can forget Larry Summers, Judd Gregg, or OMB Director Peter Orszag who was leaking and undermining from within the administration…Who can forget David Petraeus, who the President appointed to several powerful and sensitive positions – including CIA Director…or Stanley McChrystal …and please don’t tell me that friendship, closeness, trust or faith in his judgement, prompted the President to appoint James Comey to be the current FBI Director – a critical position which has a 10 year tenure by the way…

In one of the released Hillary emails, Sid Blumenthal is telling Hillary that his sources tell him that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is put off and unimpressed with the circus and celebrity of President Obama…Sid advises Hillary to take advantage of Merkel’s disgust – and to try to get close to Merkel and cultivate a personal relationship with her …so Hillary essentially spent her time as SoS cultivating personal ‘friendships’ with world leaders for her own purposes and specifically to try to undermine and one-up her boss..

I can’t get with this logic…Don’t cast your vote for Bernie Sanders , he voted for the 1994 crime bill. Vote for the ones who lobbied for the bill & signed it into law?

You know, SG2, it isn’t logic, it can’t possibly be logic. It’s emotion, at least for the older black folks. And the younger ones probably listen to the older folks. But it is an emotion that I don’t feel and I don’t understand and I can’t even identify, to be honest.
With PBO, I felt plenty of emotion. It was like a gift from God to live to see something happen that I never thought I would. Yet, I also believed PBO was the best candidate. I agreed with him on so many things, not everything, and I would have voted for him regardless of his race of ethnicity. He was the best candidate.
But this attachment to the Clintons, what is it based on? They never came through, they never delivered. And, by the end of Bill’s second term, they were totally consumed with themselves, in my opinion.

As revealing as these selectively released e-mails are, remember that these are the ones Hillary decided to release by the way – after having destroyed the ones she deemed none of our business! If these were the ‘harmless’ e-mails, one can only imagine what was in those they destroyed…
Meanwhile everyone conveniently forgets that her former aide Bryan Pagliano who set up and worked on her personal email server – and was personally paid by the Clintons for the upkeep, pled the fifth and disappeared..

Editorial: Grassley’s Supreme Court stance is all about politics

The GOP effort to block an Obama nominee from the court isn’t about letting voters have their say, or respecting past precedent, or demonstrating strict adherence to the Constitution. In fact, it’s precisely the opposite.
This could have been a “profile in courage” moment for Sen. Grassley. This was an opportunity for our senior senator to be less of a politician and more of a statesman. It was a chance for him to be principled rather than partisan.
He could have made it clear that he favors a Senate vote on the matter — a move that still would enable Republicans to accept or reject the eventual nominee based on merit — but he chose instead to disregard his constitutional duty by rejecting a nominee who hasn’t even been named.
It’s wrong. It’s not unexpected, and it’s not a surprise, but it’s still wrong.

He’s paying attention to the concerns of black America now, as a presidential candidate. Back when he represented Vermont? Not so much, local activists say.
Back in 2006, the Vermont Partnership for Fairness and Diversity, a Brattleboro area civil rights organization hosted a Candidate Night. The race for the open U.S. Senate seat between Bernie Sanders and Richard Tarrant, a Republican and one of the wealthiest people in the state, had grown increasingly acrimonious.
The audience of African-American activists and other Vermonters of color should have been a friendly one for the socialist congressman.
Instead, remembers Curtiss Reed Jr., the executive director of the group, it became something of a showdown. Sanders “was just really dismissive of anything that had to do with race and racism, saying that they didn’t have anything to do with the issues of income inequality,” Reed told The Daily Beast.

Sounds Like James Franco is Columbussing Zola’s Story (UPDATE: Zola is Involved)

Remember the chaos-filled story that a stripped named Zola tweeted (read: Lessons from Zola’s Story: The Great Saga of Trapping and Mayhem)? Of course you do. The epic tale took us all by storm and the internet spent like a week talking about it, which by today’s standards is a long time on one topic. Celebrities chimed in on how they were hooked and EVERYONE saw the movie potential of this.
Yesterday, it was announced that James Franco is adapting “the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted” for the screen. I immediately winced, even from seeing just the headline.
And then I clicked through to have my fears confirmed and I wanted to dropkick every trashcan in a 25 mile radius.
I am not okay with it.
In the Vanity Fair piece I read about it, nowhere was it mentioned if Zola herself will be involved with this production. Same for this Rolling Stone piece. Instead, it’s James who will direct and star in it. The script was written by Andrew Neel and Mike Roberts.
WHAT PART IS ZOLA HERSELF PLAYING IN ALL OF THIS??? Will she be compensated for this? Will she get producer’s credit? Will she be allowed on set as a consultant? None of that was mentioned in the piece.
Just to be sure, I Googled Andrew and Mike and they’re also of course, White Men.
What this gives me is PURE COLUMBUSSING VIBES. And if there’s anything white men can do really well, it’s to take the ideas of others, profit from them and then erase the originator. That is their superpower.
Tell it, Mr. President.

President Obama hosted a press conference at the U.S.-Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in California yesterday, which comes against a backdrop in which the future of the Supreme Court is dominating much of the domestic political conversation. The president is obviously aware of Senate Republicans’ plans for a total blockade against nominee, regardless of merit, so Obama took some time to remind GOP lawmakers about the constitutional process.

SCANDAL IS BACK, SNITCHES!!! I wrote a piece the other day on what I’ve thought the trailer meant, so read that. But let’s get right to it. I’m thirsty.
Dining Pope – We land 6 months past where we left, and Sally Langston is still being Petty Labelle on her little commentary show. Eli is at dinner with his daughter, who is rocking a bright orange dress. Off the bat I’m uncomfortable. This ain’t the Liv we’ve known. Papa is fussing at her because he can’t believe she walked away from the Oval Office, by dumping Fitz when she coulda been FLOTUS. Our girl said she felt like she was in prison, doe. And then he tells her “Jake has come home. You should too.” Is AirBnB busy? Why is Jake from State Farm now living with Papa Pope?? Lawd.
Liv gets home and finds Jake standing in front of her apartment. Here, she’s rocking a pink and red cap over her dress. She don went full Skittles on me in one #alphet. This is gonna take getting used to. At first, she tells him to leave but a switch went off because next thing I know, she literally jumps his bones and they hustle into her apartment and get handsy in the dark.
