How sad it is that Rep John Lewis had to explain himself when it is so obvious what he was saying, even out of context. He didn’t know Bernie Sanders during the civil rights era because he couldn’t possibly know every activist, there were thousands of them. It is beyond shameful that Hillary supporters attached their own deliberately misconstrued meaning to Rep Lewis’ words and used this to attack Bernie Sanders. Is nothing sacred to these people? Is nothing off limits? Apparently not.

On Thursday, as the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) political action committee endorsed Sanders’ rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton, Lewis appeared to play down the Vermont senator’s involvement in the civil rights movement in its 1960s heyday.
“I never saw him,” Lewis said. “I never met him.”
On Saturday, he said he had not meant to express doubt “that Senator Sanders participated in the civil rights movement, neither was I attempting to disparage his activism”.

On Saturday, the Georgia representative issued a statement through the CBC, in which he said: “In the interest of unity, I want to clarify the statement I made at Thursday’s news conference.
“I was responding to a reporter’s question who asked me to assess Senator Sanders’ civil rights record. I said that when I was leading and was at the center of pivotal actions within the civil rights movement, I did not meet Senator Bernie Sanders at any time.
“The fact that I did not meet him in the movement does not mean I doubted that Senator Sanders participated in the civil rights movement, neither was I attempting to disparage his activism. Thousands sacrificed in the 1960s whose names we will never know, and I have always given honor to their contribution.”

Lewis also clarified a comment made on Thursday in which he said he had known Bill and Hillary Clinton in the civil rights era.
Lewis said he “did not say that I met Hillary and Bill Clinton when I was chairman of SNCC in the 1960s”.
He added: “My point was that when I was doing the work of civil rights, led the Voter Education Project and organized voter registration in the south in the 1970s, I did cross paths with Hillary and Bill Clinton in the field. They were working in politics, and Bill Clinton became attorney general of Arkansas in the 1970s as well.
“That began a relationship with them that has lasted until today.”

I mean, Rep James Clyburn just said that one of the reasons he was worried of a Sanders administration was that public colleges would hurt HBCUs. Folks enrolled inHBCUs pay lower tuition free, in addition to some forms of student scholarships.
How can Clyburn in one breath say he cares about his constituents, yet in the next reth says he is afraid that free colleges would hurt HBCUs? It wasn’t even like he mentioned that he was worried that free college’s quality could be bad (which I think is a valid concern), or other criticism.
He’s more worried of the survival of those semi-private institutions than the fact that many of those African American kids will graduate with a lot of debt.

My Reaction to Yesterday’s Election Results

Okay, we have the answers to my six pre-election day questions from yesterday. Let’s take a look.
1. Who wins Nevada? Clinton
2. Does Cruz or Rubio come in second place in South Carolina? Rubio, by about a thousand votes.
3. Assuming he wins, does Trump get more than a third of the vote or more like a quarter of it? He actually got exactly a third.
4. Does Bush do better than Kasich or not, and does he exceed expectations? They both got eight percent, although Bush got a little over a thousand more votes, coming in fourth place to Kasich’s fifth. This does not exceed expectations for Bush.
5. Does Kasich knock Bush out? Yes.
6. Does Carson call it quits? No.
So, what did I say that these things would mean……..
