    We’re going out tonight to celebrate my oldest son’s birthday. It will be 10 of us. We’re celebrating tonight and tomorrow his dad is throwing him a big party in Houston. So tonight is our time. :)

    If you are not watching the new hit show, “Underground”, the WGN America network series exploring the escape of enslaved African Americans along the Underground Railroad, you are truly missing out. With music sensation John Legend as an executive producer, and screenwriters, Misha Green and Joe Pokaski as creators and writers, “Underground” provides a different narrative than the ones we’re used to hearing… than the ones we’re used to hearing when it comes to American slavery—a story of revolution! This is must-see TV!

    While I had early reservations about watching another show or movie about American slavery, I watched the first episode and was hooked immediately. Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Eve’s Bayou, The Great Debaters, “True Blood”), a dynamic breakout Hollywood star and #BlogHer16 Experts Among Us advisory board member, stars alongside Aldis Hodge (“Leverage”, Straight Outta Compton), Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: SVU”), Amirah Vann (“Girls”, “Tracers”), and an ensemble of vibrant, invested actors and actresses who bring this powerful story to life.

    “Underground” is the story of a group of enslaved Black people planning a 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation in the mid-19th century. They are being hunted by slave-catchers and they have a bounty on their head, but they receive help from an abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad. The script shows no mercy, holding White enslavers fully accountable for the barbaric institution of slavery, and the cinematography captures the raw, savage brutality that was the reality of the daily lives of enslaved people. “Underground” is the most compelling show on television right now.

    As for the Scandal Finale:

    All the goons came out to play: Jake, Rowan, Cyrus and Olivia.

    The scene with Mellie /Fitz was fantastic.
    The scene where Olivia ‘freed’ Jake was fabulous.
    I am not of the belief that Jake/Rowan were working together. For Rowan, that test was for OLIVIA. He had to bring Olivia completely over to the dark side, and only by having her ‘defeat’ him, is how it would happen. To give in to her thirst for power, even if she pretended it was for another reason.

    I don’t care what anyone says: Rowan Pope did not lose last night. He didn’t lose at all.
    He is in Command, no matter who wins. Period.
    The only odd thing is that I think Tom actually developed feelings for Cyrus, but I will never believe that he wasn’t a Rowan Plant from day one, which means that Rowan controls the Democratic Party ticket too. Cyrus must be a beast in the sack to get all these young boys to lose their minds.

    Cyrus pulled a Dick Cheney!
    I can’t believe that we didn’t see it coming, but it was damn brilliant.
    BRILLIANT.
    And, the ticket took care of all the M’s:
    Male – Cyrus, Vargas
    Married – Cyrus, Vargas
    Military – Vargas
    A well-established REPUBLICAN running with DEMOCRAT.
    A REPUBLICAN, whose marriage and ‘ family’ was only possible because of DEMOCRATS?
    A Gay, MARRIED Republican with an adopted Black child whose hair looks as good as Ella’s does?
    Man…….Man………
    Cyrus – still part of the Original Goon Squad.

    I have loved Cyrus’ marriage from the beginning. Folks get wrapped up in them being two men. If Michael were Michelle –everything would be clear.
    Sweet young thing, getting the come up with a rich, powerful man, becoming a step-parent to a young child. Being the good Trophy Husband, taking care of house and home. Everything is clear. I love it.

    Rowan Pope-Black Lucifer -sitting there, on his couch, sipping wine, saying ‘ That’s My Girl’.

    That was everything

      Been rewatching Scandal’s finale.

      I think I love it more everytime I watch it. Maybe, because I’m a political junkie, but the ending was absolutely brilliant. Cyrus pulling the Dick Cheney was a Boss Goon Move, that completely fit with previous parts of the show. Goes back to Olivia, when she had that Governor who seemed to be asexual – cause he didn’t have anyone in his life, and she asked if he was gay.

      ” Are you gay? Gay, I can work with. America understands gay. Give me 10 years, and I will make a Gay President. ”

      Coupled with that moment of naked truth between James and Cyrus about Defiance, where Cyrus tells him that he had the brains, and the ambition, and the determination to become President, but he liked to sleep with men.

      Combine those two moments and we get to where we are now in the show, and the Vargas/Cyrus ticket is SOOO plausible and makes so much sense to go up against Mellie/Jake.

    Why Black Panther is one of the best parts of Captain America: Civil War

    At Howard University’s commencement on May 7, the leader of the free world talked about a superhero. President Barack Obama spoke about the possibilities awaiting the class of 2016 — running a company, changing politics, or becoming a boundary-breaking musician like Prince — and he also mentioned Marvel’s Black Panther.

    “You can write a book that wins the National Book Award, or you can write the new run of Black Panther,” he told the graduates. “Or, like one of your alumni, Ta-Nehisi Coates, you can go ahead and just do both.”

    The president name-checking Black Panther, a.k.a. T’Challa, is a pinnacle for the hero, a moment that signifies that the character has finally arrived.

    Obama was referring to Coates’s collaboration with artist Brian Stelfreeze for a new, stellar Black Panther comic book that Marvel released last month. This past weekend, Marvel introduced comic fans to a live-action version of the character played by Chadwick Boseman in Captain America: Civil War. And in 2018, Black Panther will star in his own solo movie before joining up with the Avengers in the epic two-part Infinity War.

    But what’s even more exciting than Black Panther entering the cultural consciousness is the feeling that the people behind the latest incarnations of the character have gotten him right. That his depiction in Civil War — lauded by critics and fans alike — has finally brought to life a character who is respected, challenging, and integral to the Marvel universe.

    Here’s what Civil War did so well.

    Black Panther is a force to be reckoned with

    Black Panther, a.k.a. T’Challa, plays an important role in Civil War’s most gasp-inducing sequences. He’s chasing after Bucky Barnes during the freeway pursuit and outrunning cars. He’s going toe to toe with Bucky during the gigantic airport fight scene. He’s also in the movie’s final scene and apprehends the film’s real villain.

    Black Panther is undoubtedly an important powerhouse, since he can go up against the Winter Soldier.

    But Civil War also contains a smaller scene that gets this point across with more impact. Bucky, who has been mind-controlled by Hydra, escapes his containment unit in Berlin, and Tony Stark/Iron Man, Sharon Carter, and Black Widow all set out to try to slow him down. One by one, Bucky swats them away like flies. Then Black Panther shows up — he doesn’t have his armor, but he still goes punch for punch with Bucky before Bucky ultimately runs away.

    Black Panther isn’t a demigod like Thor or a megaton powerhouse like the Hulk, but he can more than hold his own in combat.

      One of the few good ones – and someone who actually gets it…She’s not deluded…

      She understands that she gets to be an invited guest to a State Dinner – not to be the entertainment, but an actual invited dinner guest – and with a plus one of her choosing…not only because of her longterm support of BOTH the Obamas, but the deep respect she’s consistently shown the First Lady – unlike those with dubious agenda who try to insinuate themselves specifically into the President’s sphere through scheming and plotting…

      Some folks just don’t get that the only reason they ended up at some event at the White House is not because the President invited them…it’s because the First Lady did…
