The InStyle cover with FLOTUS isn’t just for show…
FLOTUS did the mag cover to promote her Let Girls Learn Initiative, but as usual, she used the opportunity to rally some of America’s best designers – and some of her favorites who she’s supported over the years…and the previously unknown young ones who she’s put on the world map – to help support the effort to educate #62million girls around the world who aren’t in school.
They’ve designed and donated one of a kind tote bags inspired by some of the developing countries where the Peace Corps is now actively implementing the First Lady’s culturally-sensitive and specifically targeted Let Girls Learn programs. All proceeds from the sale of these limited edition totes will benefit FLOTUS’ Let Girls Learn initiative now being facilitated in collaboration with the Peace Corps.

How did you get the magazine?
I have been looking for it everywhere I stop that they sell magazines. 😠
I don’t have it yet Rikyrah…I’ve just been reading snippets about it on the internet…
Both the Essence and InStyle mags aren’t yet on the grocery store stands here …InStyle I understand doesn’t come out until the 16th…but Essence should have been out, but still isn’t for some reason – Our local stores are still carrying the one with Uzo Aduba on the cover…
I did order the tote bags (I’ll probably give a couple away, but I will be keeping the Carolina Herrera one at least for me. I think it’s especially pretty, and I like that it highlights the cause. It’ll be a pretty one to tote books/papers/drawings/water bottles/chocolate/spare comfy shoes etc. around in) to support FLOTUS’ Let Girls Learn initiative…I also ordered a few subscriptions of InStyle (30% of each new subscription will be donated to FLOTUS’ Let Girls Learn/Peace Corps fund).
I stopped subscribing to InStyle years ago, but ordered a subscription for me and the rest as gifts to friends and family, in support of my FLOTUS’..

It all sort of reminds me of the Runway to Win tees and accessories various designers did in support of the Obamas for the President’s election and re-election. I own every single one of them…These days I look at boxes of stuff purchased from the campaign and I shake my head … Especially after I read David Plouffe’s book about how they worked us…got us all worked up with those late night and early morning hair on fire e-mails about how the repubs were out-raising us…I’d already maxed out and all I could do was just keep ordering tee shirts and other campaign stuff to help out…Everyone thought I’d lost my mind..

Hypocritical NFL Fans Angry About Kaepernick Protest Boo President Obama & Remain Silent About Brutality
Roland Martin calls out duplicitous NFL fans.
The NFL opened its 2016 season with solidarity and protests while honoring the victims of 9/11. The Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs locked arms during the National Anthem, while several other players from around the league knelt.
But during President Obama‘s pre-recorded remarks calling for unity, many NFL fans reportedly booed.
Roland Martin, host of NewsOne Now, addressed the schism, saying, “I find it interesting there are people mad at [Colin] Kaepernick for protesting, saying he’s unpatriotic … yet when the president of the United States gives a video [speech] talking about unity on 9/11, he gets booed and no one says anything.”
That behavior is unpatriotic and disrespectful, to say the least.
Craig Eugene, III, vice chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, added, “The same folk that are more outraged that Colin Kaepernick and others are protesting have been the same folk that have been disrespecting the president for the last eight years.
“It’s the same crowd that asked for his birth certificate, the same crowd that asked for his college transcripts, it’s the same crowd that’s probably backing Donald Trump.”
He added that Kaepernick’s critics prefer to bash the quarterback’s protest while remaining “silent on police brutality.”
Furthermore, he said naysayers like “to invoke Dr. King’s [name in contrast to Kaepernick], [but] if they actually go back to the 1963 ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, [King] clearly says, ‘We will never stop until police brutality ends.’”

Real Journalism: 10 Questions Our Media Refuses to Ask Donald Trump
Trevor LaFauci September 12, 2016
It doesn’t get better.
With the latest episode of #LaueringTheBar in which our media has once again failed to do its most basic job, it is now officially time to put the myth of the liberal media to bed once and for all. Matt Lauer’s gutless performance this past Wednesday at the Commander-in-Chief forum was only the latest in a string of episodes where our media has failed to challenge Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump for fear of hurting his wittle feelings. While the major networks have consistently given Trump $2 billion of free airtime, even alleged “liberal” networks like MSNBC have shred any kind of perceived bias by not only giving Trump his own personal Town Hall but also by having Trump cheerleader Joe Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski offer Trump softball questions on live TV. Combine all this with the fact that the Trump campaign refuses to participate in interviews with Rachel Maddow, who would be one of the few journalists with enough integrity to actually challenge Donald Trump, and what we have is a candidate who will seemingly go unchallenged all the way to Election Day.
And that is a problem.
It is a problem because the role of media is to present the truth, even if the truth hurts a particular individual. When Donald Trump is allowed to lie about his support for the Iraq War for over a year and he still is allowed to continue this lie, that is a problem. That is a problem because people rely on our media to present factual information. If we are comparing two presidential candidates and determining which one is more qualified to be commander-in-chief, it is damn well important to ask one of them why he is insisting upon something that simply isn’t true. That speaks to the candidate’s character, his judgment, his ethics, and his morality. Do the American people want someone in the Oval Office who lies about his past? Someone who shifts his views only after popular opinion has changed? Someone who refuses to acknowledge his support for a war even though his support is clearly documented? These are all valid questions that the American people need answered.
But these answers won’t come. Not in the Age of Trump, where interviewers refuse to challenge a presidential candidate for fearing of losing him and the advertising dollars that come with him. Sure, the man lies 70% of the time, but people tune in to watch him which is the important part. As Chuck Todd famously said, it’s not the media’s job to fact-check certain claims being made by political candidates. Because when you fact-check candidates, they get upset. Rather than man up and admit their mistake, these candidates often double down on their assertions. If they still receive pushback then they can simply claim that their interviewer/interviewer’s network is clearly biased against them and refuse to do future interviews. When that happens, the interviewer gets an earful from his/her boss as to how terrible it now will be with that candidate no longer appearing on the network. Because no candidate wants to go on a show where they know they will be consistently challenged but to go on to a friendly network with softball questions, no pushback, and free airtime is a opportunity that simply cannot be passed up.
Obama Rises While Clinton Falls
by Martin Longman
September 12, 2016 11:01 AM
The latest Washington Post/ABC News survey has the president’s approval number at 58%, which is higher than it’s been at any point since mid-summer of 2009. As Philip Bump explains, this is very good news for Hillary Clinton because it’s been historically much easier for a candidate to succeed a popular president of his own party than an unpopular one. I think that’s what we’d all intuitively guess to be the case, but the numbers do back it up.
As of now, the Post/ABC News poll is an outlier, showing somewhat stronger support for Obama than other surveys in the field, but they agree that the president has been rising and that he’s at over fifty percent approval.
Of course, what the actual candidate does matters more than how people feel about the incumbent, and Clinton has been going through a rough patch in her campaign of late. This probably explains why her polls and the president’s seem to be heading in opposite directions and the presidential horserace numbers have narrowed considerably since the conclusion of the two party’s conventions in July.
It’s not unlikely that widespread dissatisfaction with the choice between Trump and Clinton is the main driver of Obama’s improving approval numbers, as people increasingly reward him for looking good by comparison. If that’s the case, Philip Bump may be overstating how much Clinton stands to benefit from Obama’s popularity.

The Legacy Of Uhura
Don’t like Star Trek, but love Uhura
She never left us in a furor
Almost quit show
MLK let her know
Blacks tuned in to see her for Shura
Uhura made history with “The Kiss”
Show execs were highly pissed
Censors watched in horror
Backed into a corner
Lucky Star Trek wasn’t dismissed
Before Nichelle’s ground-breaking role
Sang in big bands; truth be told
Performed with Duke Ellington
And Lionel Hampton
Our girl wasn’t a one-trick soul
Nichelle’s character was a game-change
Showed Blacks really had range
No typecast played
Our queen was no maid
And nothing about it looked strange
Uhura influenced career plans
Such as astronaut Mae Jemison
Star Trek gave Mae feeling
She could break the ceiling
Upon Nichelle’s shoulders she stands
Totally, COMPLETE AWESOMENESS

“…Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump have been friends since long before their parents were rival presidential candidates, and on Friday, Clinton vowed their friendship would survive the tumultuous campaign season.
Clinton said on ABC, “Our friendship didn’t start in politics; it certainly is not going to end because of politics.”

Her health and SAFETY with her health issues should be number one priority. I am surprised that her doctor did not prescribe rest for her. Her doctor should not have let her do any public activities on the weekend after diagnosing her on Friday.
agreed… Can we say VP JOE BIDEN?
I would say don’t hang upside down waiting for anything like this to happen. Hillary has got a death grip on that nomination. If she’s breathing on November 8, she’s still running. And the DNC? Take the nomination from Hillary? That’ll be the day. Maybe they’re discussing what to do in the event of her untimely demise should that occur before the election. Otherwise, she won’t be replaced.

I really don’t think it’s pneumonia… I believe it’s something neurological in nature. I don’t think she is doing herself any favors by continuing this method of dealing with her issues. Lying is not presidential. Being sick can be dealt with and handled and managed, lying….not so much.
Good luck trying to get tickets to go! Currently, November is the earliest you can reserve “TIME-ENTRY TICKETS

Why is truth so hard for white america? Your history precedes you and continues to receive you and yet YOU act like the victim!!! Victimizing people for centuries then hiding behind the shield of being a victim of criticism??? CRITICISM???? Not death or pillaging, or theft!!! Unbelievable!! White tears must taste like juice from the heavens as much as they cry over being criticized!!
Well said.
