Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh: Trump’s Get Out Of Jail Card

Trump is using Brett Kavanaugh to get out of jail. Kavanaugh is on record in saying a sitting President cannot be indicted. Trump is under FBI investigation for obstruction of justice. No Supreme Court nominee should be confirmed until the Russia investigation is complete.  We are a Nation of laws. The Senate need to uphold the rule of law.

Brett Kavanaugh just did a big favor for those who are seeking to defeat his nomination to the Supreme Court. Donald Trump could have picked any far-right judge and made his billionaire donors and extremist supporters happy. So why did he choose Kavanaugh specifically? You and I know that it obviously involved a private conversation about personal loyalty. But thanks to Kavanaugh’s big stupid mouth, now the whole world knows it.

After Donald Trump introduced Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court nominee, Kavanaugh stepped to the microphone and said this: “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked to more people from more backgrounds to seek input for a Supreme Court nomination.” It was precisely what Trump wanted to hear. It was also the dumbest thing Kavanaugh has ever said in public, because he just personally married himself to Trump in the court of public opinion.

There are two ways we can convince mainstream America to ferociously stand up and fight against this Supreme Court pick. The first is to point out that Brett Kavanaugh will cast the deciding vote to overturn Roe v Wade, gay marriage, and other crucial rulings. This simply requires pointing to his existing record of far-right extremism. The second is to frame Kavanaugh as being a corrupt puppet of Donald Trump. This was going to be a difficult sell, until Kavanaugh just handed us the above quote.

I’ll post Brett Kavanaugh’s words about Donald Trump again, because this is the quote that you copy-paste and send to all your friends who wouldn’t normally care about the Supreme Court but who think Trump is a corrupt criminal: “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked to more people from more backgrounds to seek input for a Supreme Court nomination.” These are not the words of a legitimate judge. They’re the words of a corrupt judge who is willing and eager to do Trump’s personal bidding at the expense of America.

It’s nice how there’s a big, honking paper trail that clearly shows Kavanaugh believed presidents should be impeached for sneezing until he realized Republicans could be presidents too.

    no shyt.

Ever mindful of his self-interest, Trump has picked Brett Kavanaugh, who once wrote that he didn’t believe a sitting President should be subject to criminal investigation or prosecution.

Kavanaugh could be deciding vote on legal challenges to the Mueller investigation.

Notice that in three hours, Democrats have cited more concrete reasons for opposing Brett Kavanaugh, as a specific judge based on his specific track record, than Republicans could come up with in 300 days for Merrick Garland.

Democrats can do a lot to derail Kavanaugh. But they almost certainly can’t do enough, if McConnell has the votes. It’s liberals & progressives AND moderates on various issues who will have to pressure enough Repubs to keep him from getting through.

    Why am I not surprised?

While working for Ken Starr in 1998, Kavanagh routinely skirted or violated Rule 6 (e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure by leaking details of Lewinsky probe.Mueller’s team obeys the law; Starr’s didn’t. Reporters didn’t bust Brett because they benefitted. Will one now?

    That lowlife muthaphucka.

    Jeff Hauser @ jeffhauser
Trump & Kennedy were negotiating over whether:
    (a) Kennedy would retire and
    (b) if Kennedy would get his preferred successor (Kavanaugh) while
    (c) Kennedy was deciding whether to hold Trump’s professed motives for the #MuslimBan against him.

  11. rikyrah says:

Source familiar tells NBC that Justice Kennedy had been in negotiations with the Trump team for months over Kennedy’s replacement. Once Kennedy received assurances that it would be Kavanaugh (his former law clerk) Kennedy felt comfortable retiring – @LACaldwellDC & @frankthorp

    UH HUH
    UH HUH

We’re learning this morning that this choice was a back channel quid pro quo agreement for Kennedy’s decision to retire MONTHS in the making. Kavanaugh is a disgusting liar.
