Friday Open Thread| The Turtle is Scheming Again

In case you hadn’t heard, the Turtle is up to his demonic foolishness.

He couldn’t hold a hearing for Merrick Garland, but now is all interested in holding a vote on the Green New Deal?

It can’t be because he actually gives two flying figs about climate change…so, why?

Why Mitch McConnell is holding a vote on the Green New Deal

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made a surprise announcement on Tuesday: He’s planning to hold a vote on the Green New Deal. But it’s not because he thinks it’s a good idea.

The sweeping resolution to tackle climate change aggressively was proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) last week. McConnell now wants to put Senate Democrats on the record about whether they support it. It’s an especially prescient political move, given how many Democrats in the Senate are running for president in 2020.

“I’ve noted with interest the Green New Deal. We’re going to be voting on that in the Senate; it will give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal,” McConnell said during a Tuesday press conference.

Nearly all the biggest 2020 names are co-sponsors on the Green New Deal — declared candidates Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) are all on the bill, as is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is expected to make an announcement about running.
All said they’re doing so to make a big statement about their commitment to tackling climate change. It’s important to note that the Green New Deal is a resolution that’s basically a mission statement on how to address climate change, rather than an actual bill with policy prescriptions.

The GOP doesn’t even believe in Climate Change. Or anything else that would help the planet. This vote is nothing but a sham.

$1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot still unclaimed—here’s what happens if no one comes forward by the deadline
    Yoni Blumberg | @YoniBlum 11:27 AM ET Fri, 16 Nov 2018

In late October, Mega Millions announced that someone had won its $1.5 billion jackpot. But two months have passed and still, no one has come forward to claim the enormous prize, Josh Whiteside, director of marketing at the South Carolina Education Lottery, tells CNBC Make It.

“Everyone’s talking about it,” said Jee Patel, the manager of the KC Mart in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where the winning ticket was purchased. “It’s a mystery.”

The winner, who beat the odds of 1 in 302 million, gets 180 days, or until April 21, to collect before the ticket expires.

If the prize goes unclaimed by the deadline, according to the Mega Millions website, “each participating state in the Mega Millions game will get back all the money that state contributed to the unclaimed jackpot.

If that person has lost the ticket, Black Jesus, don’t ever let them know….

If you still have it…COME ON..put on the face mask like the dude in Jamaica did…LOL

Pelosi, Schumer Joint Statement on the President’s Unlawful Emergency Declaration
    FEBRUARY 15, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer released this joint statement on President Trump declaring a national emergency:

“The President’s unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security of our military and our nation. This is plainly a power grab by a disappointed President, who has gone outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process.

“The President’s actions clearly violate the Congress’s exclusive power of the purse, which our Founders enshrined in the Constitution. The Congress will defend our constitutional authorities in the Congress, in the Courts, and in the public, using every remedy available.

“This issue transcends partisan politics and goes to the core of the Founders’ conception for America, which commands Congress to limit an overreaching executive. The President’s emergency declaration, if unchecked, would fundamentally alter the balance of powers, inconsistent with our Founders’ vision.

“We call upon our Republican colleagues to join us to defend the Constitution. Just as both parties honored our oath to protect the American people by passing the conference committee bill, the Congress on a bipartisan basis must honor the Constitution by defending our system of checks and balances.

“The President is not above the law. The Congress cannot let the President shred the Constitution.”

On emergency declaration, Pelosi reminds GOP it won’t always be in power
    02/15/19 11:21 AM
    By Steve Benen

“I know the Republicans have some unease about it no matter what they say, because if the president can declare an emergency on something that he has created as an emergency, an illusion that he wants to convey, just think of what a president with different values can present to the American people.

“You want to talk about a national emergency? Let’s talk about today, the one-year anniversary of another manifestation of the epidemic of gun violence in America. That’s a national emergency. Why don’t you declare that emergency, Mr. President? I wish you would.

“But a Democratic president can do that. Democratic president can declare emergencies as well. So, the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.”

  7. WHAT? So he told on himself? No national emergency. And the courts will strike it down.
