    Refresher..

“..After propping her up as the Democratic Party’s Trump resistance hero, the Democratic establishment, including Clinton donors and staffers, are lining up behind the idea of Sen. Kamala Harris running for president in 2020. Earlier this month, Harris met with several top Clinton donors in the Hamptons and attended a luncheon hosted for her by Liz Robbins, one of Hillary Clinton’s top lobbyist bundlers. This weekend, Harris returned to the Hamptons for more meet-and-greets with top Clinton donors. This time she met with Harvey Weinstein, Citigroup banker Ray Mcguire and former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. The continued meetings and lavish galas signal that Democratic elites are rallying behind Harris as she positions herself to run for president in 2020.

In addition to courting donors, Harris has hired several former Clinton staffers. Hillary For America Regional Director Sergio Gonzales joined Harris’ Washington, D.C., office in March 2017. Lily Adams, who served as the DNC’s deputy communications director before joining the Clinton campaign in Iowa in 2015, now serves as Harris’ communications director. Harris’ Deputy Press Secretary Kate Waters also worked for the Clinton campaign.

“She’s on overdrive. It’s not just about the money…That’s the easy part for her. She wants to meet the influential.”

Harris has also maneuvered to try to protect herself from being blindsided by possible challengers fueled by grassroots campaigning, such as Hillary Clinton was by Bernie Sanders. She has reportedly paid $400,000 to Revolution Messaging, the firm that built Sanders’ digital and branding strategy while his candidacy experienced a media blackout in 2015..”

“…The Democratic donor class is abuzz about Kamala Harris after the freshman California senator was feted this weekend at an event in the Hamptons surrounded by top fundraisers.

The Bridgehampton event, where Harris mingled with top donors and supporters of Hillary Clinton, was the ultimate signal that Harris is “thinking much bigger” than the Senate, one top bundler said.

“She’s running for president. Take it to the bank,” another fundraiser said. “She’s absolutely going to run.”

Her fans see her as an antidote to Donald Trump and as a candidate who could feed off the so-called resistance to the Republican president.

“Kamala has come to embody what’s next for our party,” said Ben LaBolt, a Democratic strategist and former spokesman for former President Barack Obama.

Harris began to win national attention even before her election in a matter somewhat similar to LaBolt’s old boss — who ran for president four years into his Senate term.

On election night, she sounded a somber tone in a victory address that quickly positioned her as a potential leading opponent of Trump.

Sean Clegg, Harris’s top strategist, said the speech went viral among progressives because “folks were looking for some silver lining in a very black sky.”

Not every Democrat is comfortable with the comparisons Harris is getting to Obama.

“She’s no Barack Obama — she doesn’t give speeches like Obama and she doesn’t fundraise like Obama,” said one Democratic fundraiser.

The senator and her staff have been quick to push back at suggestions that she is already thinking about a White House run.

At a Recode technology conference in May, Harris said she wasn’t giving “any consideration” to running for president. “I’ve got to stay focused,” she said.

Her team says she’s focused on serving California and on the 2018 election cycle and leveraging her newfound fame to help Democrats win back seats in the Senate and the House.

“She’s going to leverage every bit of fundraising ability and the attention she’s getting to make an impact in 2018,” Clegg said, adding that her trip to the Hamptons this past weekend was solely for that purpose…”

Sounds like a lot of folks are already planning for Biden to be a one term president. I wonder what he thinks about it.

Well, eliihass, sometimes these candidates get in through the back door (like LBJ for example). Biden promised the VP would be a woman and he owed a debt to Rep. Jim Clyburn (and black voters) so the woman had to be black. And because of Biden’s age there is the presumption that the VP will go on to run in 2024 making this one of the most important VP choices in American history.

A lot of folks have been telling me that Biden’s past means nothing, he will appoint good people, it will be Team Biden and so forth. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I’m betting that Biden’s ego is not going to allow a Team Biden. He is going to want to be a president not a group leader.

And assuming he wins in 2020 and maintains good health I wouldn’t count him out for 2024.

I know you’re having a hard time with this. I’ve had a hard time accepting that Biden is the nominee.

I was watching NBC Nightly News a few nights ago and they had this segment about a kid, a little boy about 12 yrs old, whose parents are immigrants and do not speak English. He loves school but is having a hard time with the online classes, trying to do his assignments on his phone and falling behind because he has no one to help him speak English.

He’s trying to do his lessons on his freakin’ phone! This kid doesn’t need much help, he’s very motivated and loves learning. He just needs a little help.

Why can’t we just do right by people in this country? God knows there is enough to go around if we start taxing billionaires.

When I hear of these so-called “Democratic” elites congregating in the Hamptons and deciding who will be the next candidate that they will ram down our throats, I swear I could go into orbit.

People sick and dying, people unemployed and lining up at food banks, an election being rigged in broad daylight, and what else? Children of immigrants trying to keep up with school with nothing but a phone?

Biden is the wrong guy for this moment. For me it starts there.

Those charged with downtown Chicago looting a mix of college students, out-of-work parents and convicted felons. But none have obvious ties to Englewood.
    By WILLIAM LEE
    CHICAGO TRIBUNE |
    AUG 14, 2020 AT 4:48 PM

After hundreds of people looted stores on the Mag Mile and elsewhere downtown, 43 defendants appeared before judges this week charged with felonies, an odd mix of peer-pressured college students, out-of-work parents and convicted felons.

But none of them, it appeared, were from Englewood, even though Chicago police say the widespread looting had its beginnings with a police shooting there Sunday afternoon. In fact no one who made statements in court even mentioned the incident, and police have not released copies of the social media posts they say organized and encouraged the looting.

More than a hundred people were arrested as blocks of stores were trashed, 13 officers were injured and downtown was shut for hours as police struggled to control unruly crowds late Sunday into Monday morning. A security guard and another person were shot downtown.

At least one person was charged with attempted murder, five with aggravated battery against police or resisting arrest, 28 for burglary and looting, six for gun possession and the rest for theft or criminal damage to property.

More than half of those taken into custody were charged with misdemeanors or were cited for civil violations or were let go. Chicago police have not released details. Detectives have promised more arrests and have set up a website of videos and photographs.

The first reports of looters came in late Sunday night, hours after police shot and wounded a 20-year-old who they say fired at them first near his home in Englewood.

Carloads of people descended on downtown and the North Side, smashing shop windows and carrying out TVs, Gucci and Louis Vuitton bags, iPhones, jewelry and other merchandise, sometimes piling them into waiting U-Hauls.

One of the first arrests downtown happened minutes before 1 a.m. when a man from the East Garfield Park neighborhood used a brick to smash a front window of the Burberry store on North Michigan Avenue.

“..In the wake of her family tragedy, Jennifer Hudson has received a helping hand from a very unlikely source — Donald Trump.

Hudson and some of her family members have been staying at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago, and Trump has been picking up the tab.

“They are safe,” Trump told People on Monday night. “She’s a great girl and we’re protecting them well.”

According to E! Online, Hudson has been staying at the hotel since arriving in Chicago on Oct. 24, the day her mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were found murdered, and her nephew, Julian King, was found missing..”
