Open Thread | Some Thoughts About Infrastructure

So, our President sent out this tweet:

I love this picture. They are all masked up. Six feet socially distant. Just being good examples.

President Biden has proposed a $2 Trillion dollar Infrastructure plan. I think it’s terrific. A big public infrastructure plan was the part of the Obama Economic Recovery that was always missing. The Republicans would always block it because it was Obama, and because they literally don’t ever want to do anything to help this country. They don’t want to show that government can actually do something positive. Don’t believe me? Why, during the largest economic downturns since the Great Depression, in 2009, and during this pandemic, did they choose ECONOMIC TREASON over helping this country. The only reason that we got anything that helped the little guy during the first COVID bill was because of Speaker Pelosi. And, after they got the smash and grab for Big Business with the PPP program, the GOP wasn’t interested in anymore COVID Relief, unless it was a ‘let business kill you without recourse’ that Moscow Mitch wanted. But, Nancy Smash held the line, and wouldn’t let that go through. While MILLIONS of Americans were suffering financially, and small businesses shuttering everyday, and the extended unemployment was allowed to collapse, Moscow Mitch wouldn’t bring to the floor the bill that Speaker Pelosi passed in MAY of 2020.

I hope that 46 and the Democrats pay the GOP dust. If they had wanted to pass a REAL infrastructure plan, not a fraud filled with privatization schemes, they could have done it when they controlled the White House, House and Senate. But, they didn’t, because they have no real interest in it. Don’t negotiate with bad faith players.

Infrastructure is needed. There hasn’t been a real investment in it since the 1950’s. Our infrastructure is falling apart. These infrastructure jobs are good paying jobs that will go to Americans in every state. Not only just the jobs, but, also the contracts. You need to look no further than the subsidies Dolt45 gave to farmers during the pandemic. He found $46 BILLION to give to farmers during the pandemic, but, less than 1% of that went to Black farmers.

“Roughly 95% of Black-owned businesses, 91% of Latino-owned businesses, 91% of Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander-owned businesses, and 75% of Asian-owned businesses stand close to no chance of receiving a PPP loan through a mainstream bank or credit union”.

And, that’s the way Dolt45 and his folks wanted it.

It matters who is in charge when giving out government contracts. That it would be Democrats with this infrastructure plan, matters a great deal. Lots of non-White businesses will be able to partake in these contracts, and that’s another reason why the GOP opposes it.

President Biden also wants to pay for it with taxes on higher income folks and corporations. Because they did the big tax scam in 2017, people have had 3 years to see how that worked out. The GOP shot their wad on taxes, and we saw the results – corporations didn’t invest in their employees, they gave funds to stockholders. They can’t go to the well like they used to.

I am very clear – don’t negotiate with bad faith actor/terrorists. Don’t let them draw out the process. Let’s get this Infrastructure bill passed, and get people to work, and start helping America out again.

Edited to add:
This had me all in my feelings 😢😢
