The make-up of the Democratic party was very different during the Obama administration. 34 Democrats in Congress voted against the ACA. That’s Obama’s own party voting against his signature bill.

Biden has obstacles but nothing like what Obama faced.

Biden came after The Former Guy and his abusive policies and that caused Biden’s progressive policies to be more popular because Americans discovered what life in a Third World country under an authoritarian leader was like.

several factors may distinguish biden’s ‘influence.’ race has been critical in the mix. added to the constant assault on obama from the right, is that 4 yrs of trump has ‘wokened’ many, and there has been the ‘coming of age’ of a more progressive generation.

One could argue that the needs of people grew more dire, and therefore circumstances conspired to make the policies more popular. The most desperate people get the more willing they are to accept help, even if it is from the big bad evil government.
