Open Thread | As We Try to Reclaim Our Lives

Saw this tweet this past weekend.

All of the covers were good, but one was haunting:

The patriarch is in blue. He is mourning his wife, who didn’t make it through. The rest of the family is able to visit him because they all have been vaccinated- see the Band-Aids.

So much Power in a picture 😢😢😢

Audree Hall from Lake County had to make the hard choice to go without health insurance to afford her mortgage when she was laid off during #COVID19. But because of my bill in the American Rescue Plan, Audree was able to sign up for an affordable plan. Listen to her story here⬇️

Biden isn’t brash, he isn’t boastful. He simply is delivering. As @StevenBeschloss relates: “the number of COVID deaths in the US has dropped from 4,380 people on the day Biden took office to about 700 people a day now.” THAT is a tribute to Biden and an indictment of Trump.

I’m sorry but I can’t let it go. I won’t. I’m not in the throwaway business when it comes to Black girls and #makhiabryant doesn’t deserve to have her life thrown away because she decided to pick up a knife. That should not be a death sentence. And f*ck you for arguing it should.

Before I took office, I promised help was on the way. Just three months in, I’m proud to say help is here. We’ve delivered over 150 million relief checks, administered over 200 million shots, and are working hard to build back better every day.

If corps want to stave off a populist rebellion, they should consider some self-imposed constraints including significant limits on CEO pay in years of layoffs and economic losses; a permanent cutoff of contributions to anti-democracy politicians, etc.

Their devotion to short-term profits and tone-deafness to the threats to a democracy from extreme economic inequality have not abated. In the wake of two recessions and a pandemic, a reckoning may be coming.

The difference between America and other nations — and the reason I’ll keep defending America — is that when you tell us that we committed genocide against Native Americans or that slavery was a crime against humanity, most of us react by saying, “Yeah, that’s true.”

Latest NBC/WSJ poll shows an increase in strong Biden support and a decrease in strong Trump support. As a result, there are now more Americans “very positive” towards Biden (29%) than Trump (21%). Maybe we should start profiling the fervent Biden supporter.
